This was our second visit to this clinic with 2 different pets. Costs are certainly higher for emergency care, ugh. But, with both our pets and circumstances, we were given options for treatment that were doable. I appreciate the care and compassion we were shown from EVERY SINGLE PERSON we came in contact with. I will absolutely recommend!

I had to take my 2.2 lbs puppy in yesterday for IV fluids and follow up medication. Her regular vet was closed and she has pneumonia. They were so sweet and professional. Shelby took all the time necessary to answer all my questions and also told me to call anytime. It gave me peace of mind. The price was very reasonable. I will definitely go back, if I have to. I hope we don't. Thank you

This place is wayyyy understaffed. Was there for 4 hours and never seen. Had to leave to go to another animal hospital. They would come in and say we are next and not come back for another hour, just to say there was a critical, and now no idea when they will get to us. Bottom line, unless your pet is on deaths door they will not help you here. Never even offered my dog water. Not very pet friendly for an animal hospital.

We brought our 9 yr old dachshund in and he required neck surgery. Dr. Alcott performed the surgery and demonstrated superior professionalism before and after the operation. Unfortunately, there were secondary problems that prevented our pet from recovering. We had to put him down today, but we assured Dr. Alcott that he did all that he could. The staff treated us with compassion. The only issue we had with this establishment was the long wait times in visiting or being able to talk to a tech or the Dr on call.

It was so hard to make the decision to let out poor cat go, but it was the only decision. The staff who we dealt with could hardly have been more empathetic and professional. They were unobtrusive but there. We were given choices, including the choice of when we were ready to make the final call. I could never say it was a good experience - we had to say goodbye to a 17-year-old family member - but we left there grateful to their staff for their treatment of us and our cat.

I called this place in a panic over our beloved dog Pepper, who had just been diagnosed with diabetes. We found out we were using the wrong size needle for her insulin type. That means we were giving her the wrong dosage. I called to ask the simple question about the difference in needle sizes and how to calculate the proper dosage, and they would not tell us anything unless they saw our pet. I would never take any of my dogs to these people. They only care about the money, not your pet!!

Late last night our senior cat started having difficulty walking. We found VSCOT and after calling to confirm they were open and a vet was on duty we took off. Yes there was a short wait before she was seen, however, it was reasonable. Dr. Tommet brought her back to us after being examined. We all agreed our cat may have had a stroke or some other neurological problems. A variety of options were discussed. Dr. Tommet was able to find a drug suitable to send home with us to hopefully avoid possible clots. Fortunately, our cat did bounce back from the event is doing well. We are grateful to Dr. Tommet and the clinic staff for their caring and professionalism.

They saved my dog's life and kept her alive and healthy for a year beyond what we expected, but it was not cheap. The vet was wonderful and the support staff, kind and competent. By all rights this should be a 5 star review -- they really were very good -- but I deducted a star for the 'sign before treatment' protocol, which made them seem a little mercenary and for the very high fees. To be fair, though, it was definitely money well spent.

Sad to say we were duped. Our little dog got snake bitten & we left her overnight. The charges for this on Aug 18th were for all treatment needed. We paid about $1,500+. & she came home on 19th. She seemed ok for about one day & began vomiting & had loose stools that turned onto liquid & blood. We became alarmed. Suffolk our regular vet couldn’t fit her in until the next day. I had called this vet office where she had undergone the anti venom treatment. They said by all means we should see her if your regular vet can’t. So by noon I am headed back to River & La Canada. I was told they should keep her overnight again. I as told this was not usual after a snake bite & treatment. They said they would do blood work & she was dehydrated. I asked about the cost & assured we would not pay as much & that it was the doctor’s discretion. We were not told this would again be considered an emergency since she had been in recently. Now we are told you must return within 24 hrs to not be charged again for an emergency call. Because we called & it was suggested we-bring her in considering her vet could not see her, we did not consider this an emergency. My husband asked, what do you consider a non-emergency? The staffer said something to the affect, if you make an appt. so, even it is regular hrs you will pay for an emergency visit, 120.00. You are given a quote for lowest & highest charges. I believe their records will reveal they almost always charge on the high end. Who is regulating this business I want to know??? My main reason for writing this is to warn people about fraudulent charges. People, especially the elderly are very vulnerable when their pet is injured or sick. I believe in capitalism & businesses prospering, but do it honestly! I wish I’d read reviews beforehand. We knew emergency charges would be high but expected better or more reasonable bill on the second visit.

On Saturday, September 22, we took our Golden Retriever to the Veterinary Specialty Center located at 4909 N La Canada Dr. Tucson, AZ. As she had abdominal swelling (Ascitis ) from a possible liver condition, my veterinarian suggested that fluid be drained to provide some relief from her discomfort. As this facility was highly respected we were sent there for the procedure along with forwarded charts and information provided prior to our arrival. As treatment is provided 24 hours per day in the emergency department an appointment was not required. Upon our arrival the reception had no idea of any prior notification from our veterinarian. I spoke with a technician who also had no idea of what should be done. After some investigation they learned that yes there were charts that had been forwarded and I was taken to an exam room. The technician said the doctor would like to take a look at my dog to evaluate her. She was returned to me and I was told that the doctor felt she was not in a critical state and could wait until a biopsy was scheduled on her liver. At no time was I able to have direct contact with the doctor. I scheduled an appointment for the biopsy but upon returning home I had many questions that I needed answered before committing to the surgery. The following morning I called and again spoke to receptionist requesting a quick consultation with the doctor when she could fit me in and that I would wait on the phone. I was told that I would learn all about the procedure on the day of the surgery. I said that was not satisfactory. I wished to speak directly to the doctor now. I was put on hold for 20 minutes or more at which time the receptionist came back on the line and asked me what I needed. I explained that I had been waiting for 20 minutes for a quick minute with the doctor. I was told that she was too busy to speak with me and again told me that my questions would be answered by the doctor the day of the surgery. I then cancelled the surgery appointment and clearly expressed that my dog was too important to me to be treated in an uncaring, impersonal, unorganized and obviously inadequate facility such as theirs. This center is nothing but a money mill for desperate pet lovers and I strongly suggest you consider other options for your family companions. Dr. E S Nielsen M.D.

You guys were so careing when I had to put my childhood dog to rest thank you and for the card you sent me as well meant so much!

As a former employee, I can honestly tell you that this hospital leaves so much to be desired. They are constantly under-staffed, staff is overworked and underpaid, and the turnover is outrageous. If you want your pet to receive quality care, it is in your best interest to look elsewhere. This hospital does not have the staffing or the management to give your pet the care that they deserve.

Krys B

If I could give zero stars I would. We called about our dog being stung by a scorpion, and was told my dog ate to much pot. Candy did not ask any questions about our pet, and just laughed it off. If you have Medical concerns regarding your fur baby go elsewhere! Poor quality of customer service and care for your animals.

John Fry

This place is out for your money! Sure, they'll take care of your pet, but they'll add unnecessary tests and charge you big time! The vet even admitted that is her "job" to advise getting the "high end" treatment. Not the best course of action or what your pet actually needs but the "HIGH END." Then when you ask for the records they'll make you fill out a form and mail them to you in 7-10 business days rather than just hand them over. Unless your pet is in dire need, avoid this place like the plague!

Brenda Rodriguez

My mom brought her puppy who had parvo...the vets were supper sweet and very understanding . Treatment was fairly priced. Our baby survived!

We had an emergency for both of our dogs on Easter afternoon. We were told by our regular vet to take both of our dogs here straight away, and I'm so glad we did! The staff was very professional and extremely helpful. They evaluated our dogs as soon as we walked in and took care of the urgent part of the visit immediately, and I saw them do the same with every animal that came in. The vet came in once we got a room and thoroughly explained all of our treatment options, and every vet tech we saw took the time the thoroughly answer every question we had even though they were swamped. They were very sympathetic, and great with our dogs, even though they're big animals and pretty skittish (to put it mildly) at the vet. It took us a while to get our discharge paperwork, but again- that's because every new pet that came in was triaged IMMEDIATELY, and it was a busy night. The bill we got was very fair, especially for an emergency visit on a weekend holiday, and they even called us three days later to check on the dogs! Taking your pet to the doggy ER is never going to be fast, easy, or cheap, but this is a nice, clean place with a very compassionate and capable staff that I would definitely recommend to anyone unfortunate enough to need an emergency vet! (And the dogs are doing great!)

First time I brought my dog here had a quick visit , very helpful. Second time not even close , staff was extremely rude and made me feel like I wasn’t doing enough for my dog. Questioned me why I didn’t come sooner when she was only sick for an hour before I had arrived. I agreed to spend the 1,200 and then they came back telling me I needed to do the 4,000 route . I am a student and can not afford that . They made me feel very unwelcome and were not sympathetic about the injury of my pet not to mention the waiting. I will not be using them again, I rather us google to diagnose my pet. If there was an option to rate zero stars I would .

So I see this place gets mixed reviews, for us... we love them for specialty care. (have not tried the 24 hour ER and hope I never need to) Our girl was first here over a year ago when she was requiring TPLO surgery on her rear leg. We tried the 'conservative' approach to no avail in building up the scar tissue. We met with Dr. Boulay, and Petunia immediately loved him (guess he got a good vibe) which makes any fur parent happy. We did our research and Dr. Boulay had incredibly strong and awesome training, academic background and reputation. Yes, you pay for the consult -- it is a specialty center people. Just like going to the doctor. What I loved with the surgery estimate was it was all inclusive -- meaning it included everything and that also means all the aftercare and follow-up appointments. You know what you are paying going in with no hidden surprises. The surgery went very well, aftercare instructions very detailed and all post appointments including xray covered in the price we paid at surgery. Petunia even needed an extra appointment to follow up and it was covered. Surgery a success and Dr. Boulay was awesome, and unfortunately since retired. Fast forward, our girl ended up needing TPLO on the other rear leg just recently. We consulted with the Dr McCalley, and he ended up doing our girls surgery. In addition, he was kind enough to remove the plate in the original leg (since it was completely healed and was no longer needed) at no cost to us. We had a quote for 350 to do this from a few months prior since the plate seemed to maybe be bothering her. The surgery and first post op appointment went off without a hitch. We are still in the post-surgical period which spans roughly 4 months but I expect it to be as smooth as our first go around. I would come here again, no question for specialty animal care. This is a state of the art, top notch facility.

I called this place late last night to find out what to do about my puppy was having respiratory distress due to possibly having apriated pneumonia, cause when I called Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialists the lady I spoke to when she seen I took my sweet Aurora to The Pet Doctor RX she told me that I basically wouldn't be able to afford their services. Well that's not my issue with this pet hospital, my issue is that my puppy died 4hrs later after being sent home by them, with me thinking she would be ok. My puppy was diagnosed with parvo the day before and I was doing home care for her with subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics she was showing signs of getting better until that night when I believe she aspirated some of her meds and vomit, they told me to put her in a steam filled bathroom and make my hands like cups and hit her to help dislodge the mucus stuck to her chest wall, well I did that with no help she wasn't able to cough anything up , so I raced her down to this hospital for my baby girl who was only 4.5mis old to get help with her breathing, they knew what I was coming in for and when I got there they took her to the back and supposedly checked her breathing and her gums and said she wasn't having any difficulty breathing, and I couldn't believe that especially after hearing for myself with my ear to her chest I could her the having congestion, they also said she had pink gums so she was getting hydrated, but she had a temp. I brought her home thinking she was ok but in reality this hospital should of kept her for observation due to her cough and having a temperture and her barely able to walk. I was reading another review about someone's dog being in respiratory distress and how they took him in the back as soon as he got there and made sure he got oxygen and the help he needed. And they sent my sweet baby girl Aurora home to die 4hrs later. I'm homeless due to that fact I lost my home and job so they probably knew I couldn't afford her care But that's what bothers me so much is that I let them know I could cause I had help from my family to pay for whatever it cost to help Aurora. But they probably didnt believe me cause of my homelessness, so instead they made me feel like she would be ok until today to get her to another vet. Well they were wrong and because I felt she would be ok I finally after 4days of no sleep slept for a few hours to wake up to my puppy dying and watching and hearing it happen without me able to do anything to save her. To me they are the ones responsible for her death cause they didnt do their job correctly and made a bad decision and judgement all cause of money. I see that I'm not the only person to complain about this so called hospital and how they are still practicing animal medication with so many complaints? I am traumatized about this whole situation cause I went there for help and instead got to watch and hear my 4.5mo puppy die right next to me!!! That is not what should of happened, she should of gotten the help she needed last night to avoid my heartache and misery... I hope one day that someone who has enough money and power to go to this hospital and pretends that they dont have the money to pay for treatment and that they dont do their job correctly, so that soe. I will never take any of my animal to that death hospital ever again even if I have the money to spend there. Another thing is how can a sweet lady by the name of Jessica not be aware of this when she so clearly shows how much she loves animals??

I have mixed feelings regarding this place. When I arrived late at night it was extremely busy with only one doctor on staff. My pet wasn't in dire need of immediate attention so I understand that my case is a lower priority but four hours of waiting is a bit much. The people who took care of me that night were fairly attentive and seemed to be doing the best they could given their caseload. Dr. Alcott provided good service and diagnosed my pet's injury quickly. My return to the office to pick up my pet was not as pleasant. I noticed on the bill that I had been charged eighteen dollars to bandage my pet's foot, yet no bandage was present. Instead, the vet tech was allowing my pet to drag his leg with an open would directly on the floor. When I asked if I could get something to cover the wound, the reply was that it would be 50 dollars for some chinesium junk bootie and 20 dollars for some gauze and tape. Not exactly the response you want to hear when you spend 3500 dollars and they don't attend to something basic like this. When I checked out I noticed they didn't bring out my pet until after I had paid (I had already done an 80% deposit), it made it feel almost like a hostage situation. Additionally, I was charged for three nights of care when he had only spent two in the facility. I didn't even argue this one as I knew it would most likely go nowhere and end up with some retarded explanation being given to me. The anesthesia was another questionable charge, with two types of drugs (one gas one intravenous) being given. Very skeptical if this was necessary or not, I have had my pet anesthetized many times and it has always only been intravenous. Bottom line, the visit to this place got all my questions answered and the needed care was provided. I definitely question some of the practices of this institution and it appears that their employees are stretched quite thin. Management seems to be very money focused, and it showed. Overall, meh.

EDIT: In response to the company’s reply that “all pets are triaged as soon as they come through the door and evaluated by our trained technical staff. If there is any emergent medical need it is addressed immediately,” I call bs. After waiting for 2 hours, I brought my dog elsewhere and she was seen immediately. She had a fever of 105*F and fluid in her lungs from pneumonia (easily heard via a stethoscope). Maybe you need to better train your incompetent staff. ORIGINAL POST: I sat in the waiting for nearly two hours while my senior dog coughed, wheezed, had trouble breathing, and was clearly in distress. During that whole time, we were not seen or shown any signs of concern or worry from the employees. I understood that they were severely understaffed (only one vet and a slew of receptionist/vet techs) but I would expect a little better hospitality, concern, triage in order of need, etc. from an emergency vet clinic. This place is fancy and clean — but has terrible customer service and concern for pets clearly showing signs of distress. Will not visit again with future pets.

Horrible. Stay Away! Soaking my mother with thousands of dollars in unnecessary exams, tests and medications. Theft from elderly in my opinion on a weekly and monthly basis. BEWARE!!!!!!!! Update: It's been 18 months since my mother died. Guess what? The dog is fine. FINE. No medications, no special foods, no monthly or weekly tests, no expensive suggested therapies, no repeat visits every few weeks. Huh? I wonder how that miracle happened. In the meantime, I paid off her credit card from the sale of her house to pay the bill from this fiasco of a place.

Jaye Wells

Too bad there is no such thing as negative stars. They have a fancy facility and have to find some way to pay for it I guess. ....don't go here, they are salesmen - not caregivers.

CINDY BIRKES

My fur baby had to visit last night . 4 broken bones in her little foot. The staff was so caring and loving towards her. It was expensive but lower than the quote they gave me. No complaint to pay for their 24 hour care. I highly reccommend them in an emergency!

An early morning vet visit with a 16 year old dog is never a good time, but the staff there made our visit as comforting as possible. Thanks for the compassion shown to all of us.

Alison Delich

We had to put our kitty down recently and the staff was great. They were attentive, moved quickly, very friendly And we received a handwritten sympathy card with an ink paw print of our sweet pet. I would highly recommend based on their great service during a difficult time for my family.

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! Referred to Dr. Walker at this facility for a diagnosis of suspected cruciate ligament tear in my 7 1/2 year old Golden Retriever. While examining his left rear leg, Dr. Walker said my dog was "Very vocal" because what he was feeling in his leg did not warrant the crying my dog was doing. Asked if he was going to take X-rays he told me he'd do all that just before surgery. He was very nonchalant about the whole thing and was happy to give me a quote for nearly $5,000. Took my dog to a local vet for another opinion who DID do X-rays only to discover he had cancer. Four days later after he collapsed, my best friend was euthanized. My local vet took one look in my dog's ears and knew instantly something was wrong, his gums were another clue as the color of each should have been pink when in fact, they were yellow; anemic. I'll never visit Veterinary Specialty Center again and the question remains in my mind, if X-rays were to been taken prior to surgery would his cancer been revealed to me?

The people that work here (with the exception of one woman) are vile and heartless people. We brought our dog in not knowing if she had been bitten by a rattlesnake. They confirmed she was but gave us the false hope that she would make it. After giving our dog 3 vials of antivenin and spending $3,600, the vet told us that she would not make it and we had to put her down. I didn't bother to know her name because she lacked any sort of empathy and compassion. It was the hardest decision we had to make. While my mom was sobbing, a vet tech came in to ask how we would like to pay. Are you serious? You have to be the worst kind of person to confront a grieving family and only ask about money. This place only cares about money and not about your furry companions. I hope they go out of business. And the people that work here are the worst kind of people. If you truly love your pets, I strongly advise you that you go elsewhere for treatment. This place disgusts me.

sarah gartland

This hospital is not what it once was. I don't know when the exact disconnect occurred, but somewhere over the past few years, something drastically changed with the management. I work in the veterinary field, and I know corruption when I see it. Many of my friends have worked at this hospital, and many of my friends have had their pets treated at this hospital. The veterinary staff is top notch, but the individuals pulling the strings are not treating them properly or handling business in a professional manner. This is not a matter of simply wanting a raise or more holiday time. It's about the fact that the current management does not care about the patients the way they have in previous years. Many years ago as I was finishing my veterinary education, I remember this hospital being managed in a significantly superior fashion. The staff here is still excellent, but the management has failed them and the patients they treat. This is why this once great hospital is not worth your or my business until major change has occurred.

Excellent center for helping people and their pets.

Our dog was taken to Veterinary Specialty Center on La Cholla last week unfortunately after being hit by a car. We were out of town when the incident happened and my sister had to make the decision on where to take our dog. After the vet accessed her, it was determined that Our dog needed emergency surgery on her bladder. They said we had to pay $3100 over then phone in order for the surgery to happen. Surgery went well, and her rupturred bladder was fixed. Fast forward a few days later, our dog was ready to be released. Come to find out, we had to pay an over $7000 vet bill in order to get our dog back. I AM DISGUSTED by their charges, and cost of care. Talk about taking advantage of people in a time of need, and not even updating us on the fact that these types of charges were being incurred. I tried to speak to an administrator about the situation over the phone, however they said I should ‘take out a personal loan’ to handle the situation. I asked if they would consider giving A military discount, she said they don’t do that there. I explained to them extensively that this type of cost put our family in a dire situation, as we are a single income (military) family with three small children, which they absolutely did not care about. If we had had any idea that the veterinary bill for these services would be anywhere near what they are, we would have never ever let our dog be taken here. Every single other person I’ve mentioned this situation to said that it was basically highway robbery and that we should report them. We literally had to start a gofundme account to try and cover some of the costs. I am very appreciative that our dog was able to successfully recover from being hit by a car, however the financial strain that we were put through in order to make this happen is going to be hard to overcome. I absolutely do not recommend going to the clinic unless money is no object.

I had the hardest day of my entire adult life two days ago. We had to euthanize my poor baby, Maisy. There was absolutely nothing that could have made this experience better, but there sure were many ways that it could have been worse. Danielle Babski helped us through the process and she knew exactly how to handle it. I tend to get flustered easily by difficult situations so you could imagine that in this case, anything said to me could have set me off. She was perfect in every way she could be. She made me feel like she understood how difficult this was. She was simpathetic. And never, even after my princess had gone, did she rush our goodbye. I am so grateful to this woman that I am going to personally thank her this week. Thank you, Danielle. You're amazing.

Steve Landau

Unfortunately, I had to bring my dog in after a deadly coyote attack. The staff/doctors were kind, caring, attentive and ready to help in any way I needed. I highly recommend this business.

Rick Hoover

Very professional. They handled our dog's issue with care and ensured we knew what was going on at all times. We had heard only positive things about the center from friends and they were correct. If you need urgent care for your pet, this is the place to bring them.

Bill Rayl

Lost a pet but good service ....even though.

The staff here are very nice. Having to help people with wounded possibly dying pet every minute of your job, would be difficult in best circumstnces. Hats off the to Sunday night team! As professional and helpful as possible, in every way. It's heart attack spendy, but they are professionals who know and do their jobs. I'd return if I had a pet emergency. KUDOS to the team at Veterinary Specialists

The vets and staff at VSCOT saved my pups’ lives and did it with great care and compassion. After eating rat poison sprinkled in a neighbor’s yard, I rushed them to the center. They were immediately taken into triage, and as a result of their treatment, they will now survive the neurotoxin they ingested. I couldn’t be happier with the way both my pets and I were treated!

Vicki Somerville

This was the 2nd TPLO (cruciate) surgery for our dog, Daisy. This one seemed to go just as smoothly as the first. The explanation by Dr. Gores on what the procedure would entail and what we needed to do and why (the bone must heal) was made so clear that it eased my mind on each visit. The follow-up appointments were just as professional. The entire office seems to be run very efficiently and the people seem to truly love dogs! I wouldn't hesitate recommending Veterinary Specialty Center based on my experience. Thank you Dr. Gores for your great care of Daisy's knee. I think if my own knee holds out, we'll be hiking again in no time!

My pitbull was 15 years old and needed one final vet visit. I live in a small town without an emergency vet so I decided to take him here after reading other good reviews. I was so upset and distraught I could hardly even function and could barely talk. The receptionist was very helpful and understanding and so were the techs. The doctor came in and she was great, her demeanor and bedside manner was top-notch. The entire experience was 100% professional, caring and costed less than I expected. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anybody needing emergency vet service.

Good 24 hour care.

doris betuel

Excellent staff, caring service. We brought our dog in with a rattlesnake bite and were very impressed with the prompt and professional service. At 5am in the morning, we were not sure what type of service we would receive! A few days later, we had to bring in our puppy and again it was very early in the morning - quickly admitted and excellent care. I highly recommend this facility and staff! And the costs - very, very reasonable. Love you guys!

Patrice Wilson

Outstanding care! They were able to improve my dog's quality of life after 6 yrs of debilitating Valley Fever. THANK YOU!!!! It's worth every penny I spend there! Also, every single staff member that I've come in contact with has been fantastic! I LOVE that they greet my dog with such kindness so she feels loved there <3 Dr. Lisa Shubitz is who we saw and I highly, highly recommend her!

Ben Fox

Very professional, gave us very reasonable pricing upfront and took care for our baby! Definitely recommend! As for reviews of over pricing....they do not. I even googled the items they were doing and they were inline or cheaper than national industry standard. Trust them with your loved one.

JS Prince

Took my elderly greyhound to them when it was time for her to leave this world. They were wonderful. They were kind, they were patient, they were gentle and they were understanding. The cost was very low for a weekday and considering it was a Sunday evening, it was downright cheap. Dr Elizabeth Williams is a wonderful and compassionate veterinarian. I never once felt rushed and was encouraged to take all the time I needed. She was gentle with my old gal and honestly it the best experience I've ever had when euthanizing one of my dogs. I will be forever grateful for their kindness in a very trying time for me and my girl. I highly recommend these folks.

Roy Gonyea

Misdiagnosed my daughter's puppy with Distemper, lied to us indicating the test showed Distemper. Bill added up to 2500 and through their recommendation the puppy was put down. Daughter was traumatized due to the incident. Four days later, the Veterinary Specialty Center called us to tell us the test for Distemper was NEGATIVE. Puppy was put down due to false information supplied by the Vet. Daughter is a mess. Attempts to solve the issue has been ignored. DONT TAKE YOUR PET HERE, THEY PROVIDE WRONG INFORMATION AND SEEM TO NOT CARE.

Unfortunately, we have had to take two of our dogs to this place. First our lab broke her leg and this was our vets third option. The initial care was good if extremely expensive. The aftercare was horrible they left things in that were supposed to be removed and said it was out fault because she healed faster that they anticipated. Our second experience about 9 years later was far worse. They traumatized our healer so bad he is afraid of everything. We took him back to our vet and the same people he would go up to for loving before had to sit with him for a half hour to get close and even then he was very skittish. They staff was rude and confrontation from the beginning. They didn't listen to what we said and wanted to do unnecessary procedures that would cost $6000.00. If you can go somewhere, anywhere else!

Kayla Jacks

Initially thought this would be a great experience. Quickly realized it was not when the tech did not encourage blood testing first ($180) to understand the damage. Our little Mini Schnauzer ate at an ibuprofen pill, which is known to be very toxic to dogs and cats and it is recommended to seek help as soon as possible; this is how we ended up here as they were the only 24-hr ER for pets that I was aware of (we are visiting family).Vet suggested leaving our little dog there overnight for fluids and observation, plus blood testing, etc which would cost us over $1,000. The alternate estimate was to do a blood test, put fluid under her skin, send her home and “hope for the best” which was almost $600. Upon this information, I was left alone to consider the options and then the vet tech came in to get an answer form me on which way I wanted to go. Rather than suggest doing blood work first to understand the damage, she instead pushed for a signature to proceed with one of the packages they had put together. Glad I demanded the blood work to be done first, because it came back very good. Vet then said we only need to do the cheaper option. But when I asked to just be given scripts, not the fluid, the vet (Dr. V) questioned and argued our reason for not following along with her $500+ recommended action plan. Through confusion about the estimate and being overwhelmed and pressured to make a decision - and in fear of our dog’s life, we ended up spending the $500. However, turned out Dr. V created scripts for far too many pills (costing us an additional $50 at LEAST), prescribed a dosage that was too high, did not educate us on how to administer the meds and for how long (had to go back and ask/research at home) and to top it off, they even documented our 8lb dog as being 19lbs in the paperwork. The meds they provided caused [bad] urinary and fecal leakage, diarrhea and lethargy in less than 24 hrs. When I asked about these side effects Dr. V (and the tech that was relating this information - not the vet to my face) claimed, “none of those are a result of anything we did.” Moreover, I was not warned that one of the meds administered could cause miscarriage even by handling it without gloves - luckily I am not pregnant or trying to be so currently. This information was given to me upon seeing another local vet two days later on emergency about these side effects and our dog’s dehydration. The local vet also questioned why we were given one of the three meds and told me the dosage on another was too high. we spent an additional $400 on this visit and our dog is doing much better on this plan vs the ER situation; we stopped administering two of the meds and she is doing great - no more leakage or lethargy. This staff is not personable, lacks empathy, only cares about making top dollar, clearly doesn’t pay attention to detail - costing us more money than it should have - and leaves you feeling judged and worried about your pet. With 15 years of customer service experience myself, this is the last place I would recommend to bring your family member, even in emergent cases. This was a waste of over $600 total (after the cost of unnecessary meds).

I am a visitor to Tucson and have been mostly to emergency clinics in the Phoenix area. My dog had an emergent problem. I had called the clinic prior to my arrival and when I got to the clinic the staff was prepared for my visit. They took my dog immediately and dealt with the problem. The staff was professional, swift in diagnostics and care. My experience at this clinic was refreshing and much quicker and caring than at other emergency clinics. If I ever have another dog emergency in this area, I will definitely return to this clinic!

Everyone was so kind. They called with updates and u can call them for updates if you are a worrier like me. I felt very confident about the staff taking care of my kitten. They were a nice and needed comfort for the situation. And my little Lexie is back home and doing good. I would highly recommend.

Our little Sophie is terminally ill with pulmonary fibrosis. We could have given her loads of pills, breathing treatments, etc. that might have extended her life by 3 to 6 months, but we knew Sophie would hate that, and then subsequently avoid us like the plague. Instead, our vet understood and we're only giving Sophie a cough suppressant that makes her life more comfortable. We're fortunate Sophie's not in pain, so we can let her live her last days sleeping next to one of us, going outside to watch the birds and the wildlife in our backyard, and eating whatever she wants.

Heather Mcmurtrie

Sadly, we had to euthanize our dog today, and I highly recommend this beautiful facility. It was a walk in appointment, they were so accomodating and sensitive towards us. They let us hold her and spend time outdoors, while they sedated her, so we were all relaxed. It was a beautiful goodbye.

So I brought in my 3 month old puppy because he wasnt eating, as we walked in no one was there to greet us and when the front desk lady Katy walked up she was like why are you guys here and I had said my dog is not eating and is getting skinny and she told me to back away from the desk because of my dog and told me not to touch anything she then proceeded to spray down the counter where I was sitting and where I was walking around she mopped, I don't know about you but my dog is my world and thinking that there is a possibility that he can be gone sometime soon breaks my heart and instead of being comforted I'm treating like a virus! I BELIEVE THAT IF YOURE NOT GONNA BE RESPECTABLE TO PEOPLE, YOU SHOULDNT BE WORKING CUSTOMER SERVICE

The staff on duty were both professional and tactful when my son and I had to bring our oldest dog into the Center due to his passing. I thank them for their understanding of dealing with our grief.

Probably one of the worst experiences of my life. My 3 year old dog was ill with a mystery illness but still walking, wagging her tail, etc. Our vet said go there but 3 days and $2,200 later they told us she got pnueumonia on day 2, but still didn’t know what was wrong so offered to do a spinal tap for $3500 and an MRI for 4,000. We declined and when we picked her up that night, to our dismay, she was far sicker than when she went in, coughing, rattling and unable to walk or breathe. She died 5 hours later - clearly of the pneumonia because she couldn’t catch her breath. I asked for my money back but they didn’t return calls, emails or written letters, so I filed a complaint with the state but it was dismissed as I didn’t think to do an Autopsy and they denied she died of the pneumonia. This was a year ago this month and I’m still upset so decided to make a post. It’s a very very very bad place.

Ben

Horrible vet, emergency visit took 3 hours to be seen, they couldn't do anything for another couple hours when we decided to leave for another vet, and got charged $120. They also hold you hostage until you get your discharge papers which took 30 minutes.

Kathryn Merrymon

My 12-week old puppy was having an allergic reaction to something, eyes swelling, and lips starting to swell. I live over an hour away, but VCA is the closest 24-hour vet. I called as I drove, and they took my information over the phone, along with what his symptoms were. They then let me know how they would start treatment, along with the approximate cost, and checked to make sure I was ok with them starting treatment as soon as I arrived. Once I got there, they immediately took him back and started getting his vitals and giving him treatment. The entire staff was very friendly and wonderful to work with. Thank you all so much! I really appreciate the care and time you took with Nanook.

Today I had to seek help for a friends older cat and had a recommendation to come to this clinic. I could not recommend the staff high enough, who on Memorial Day were more than caring and emphatic toward my situation. Very professional but more than that, deeply caring.

Roger Deshaies

Highly recommend. Great care and excellent staff

Yesterday, 7/24, I lost my 14 year old best friend and longtime companion, Lucy. She was badly wounded from a javelina attack and could not be saved. The kind people here took special care of my baby and me which I will never forget...I was too distraught to get the lady's name but she gave me the love I needed in my grief. I wish she was here now.

It's a good ER and hospital, but they don't have a cancer doctor on staff.

Charlotte Lowe

We took our dog in to VSC's emergency care because our regular, very good, vet didn't treat dogs for potential bone injuries but recommended VSC. Our dog appeared to have a sprain, couldn't walk and was obviously in a lot of pain. After a long wait the ER vet on site said they wanted to take x-rays. After another long wait he told us that although usually he took x-rays of both front legs ( standard procedure according to him and other staff) but that he only took an x-ray of one leg. He also said he wasn't trained to read such x-rays, and there was no one at the clinic that could, but said it felt like a sprain to him. He gave us a prescription for pain pills. Our cost: over $500. We made an appointment with the "real" Orthopedic Veterinarian at the other, non-emergency VSC--and found that although they had the pre-existing x-ray, he would have to have yet another x-ray of both legs. This seemed unwise due to their association with the referring Emergency clinic, the apologetic yet incompetent doctor and high costs incurred. We paid for basically nothing and we might well have paid for it again.

I brought my 15 year old dog here on a Sunday afternoon for his final vet visit. Everybody treated us great; the receptionist, vet tech and doctor. They were all very respectful, caring and understanding. The place is modern, clean and very well run. The rates were a lot less than I expected.

Jaime Goodman

We were visiting from out of town when our dog had an encounter with a cholla. VSC came up in a quick Google search as a 24 hour vet center. We rushed our dog in and despite our stress the whole experience was amazing. The staff and Dr. Boozer were all very knowledgeable, friendly, & professional. They took excellent care of our dog and were very thorough and caring. I highly recommend this clinic. The facility is well maintained and easy to locate. The costs were very reasonable.

Dawn Richardson

Avoid this place at all costs!!!!!!! I accidentally closed the door on my dogs tail. This clinic Literally did nothing for my dog! Charged me 150 dollars! They literally mean as soon as the Dr sees your dog it’s 150.00. Dr Therio did nothing for my poor dog who was in a lot of pain. As a human being you think that someone could have enough compassion for dogs to at least pick up an electric sheer and clip the fur a little bit around the affected area to see what’s going on . It may literally be the penultimate least thing you can do. She literally did the least thing she could do and came came back in the room and told me she did a full exam but she couldn’t see anything because she had to clip the area and it was going to be more money. She quoted me into the hundreds. One being about 377.00. I paid my 150 hopefully this place doesn’t get more business because it needs to close. I literally just paid $150 for a doctor to tell me that she couldn’t see my dogs injury because of fur.

My beautiful dog had just had puppies and was acting very strange, it was 3 o’clock in the morning so we took her to this clinic right away. It was very dramatic - she was Panting and out of it. we knew something was very wrong. When we got to the vet they took our dog from our arms and took her to the back, for a second we felt like everything was now going to be ok. She was in caring and competent hands. We thought that they would help us make her better. One of the text came back to the room and said that her organs were failing due to a depletion of calcium from her body. It was a complication from feeding her 7 puppies. They said they could give her a shot that would reverse this and restore the proper amount of calcium her body required But first they needed to have a $1500 deposit before they could administer the shot. Ok, at this point we didn’t have it but wasn’t going to let our dog suffer so we woke up family members and friends to get some financial help from them. (it’s 3am) we did get very close but ended all a couple hundred short of $1500. We begged them to please bill us for the rest we even told them we would be able to bring the rest back the next morning before noon. They would not budge! said they could not do anymore without the full amount. The tech brought our Maya girl back to us and told us they couldn’t do anything and they were sorry.!!! I was shocked!!!! we went home and watched our dog die a Long horrible death...

Our little dog was attacked by a PitBull who chewed it's way into our backyard. We though we'd lose him as he had a BIG CHUNK of flesh bitten out if him and no skin to seal him up.

Cindi

Waiting waiting and lots of waiting. I wish I'd have gone elsewhere .. Triage room is in need of being cleaned and aired out. Not happy with anything thus far. Hopefully they'll be able to see us soon.

Lynda Haberstock

I was very pleased with this referral from my regular veterinarian. My dog tore her acl and I took her in for a consultation and then scheduled her for surgery. Every person I have dealt with on the phone or in person has been friendly, knowledgeable, caring and helpful. Post surgery instructions were clear and thorough with helpful tips. After suture removal I will receive rehabilitation instructions and exercises. This has been a good experience for both dog and owner.

Arnold Sears

The absolute best experience I've ever had. All the employees from check in to the vet treated my dog with the compassionate Care. I truly appreciate everything thing they did. Thank you

vicki mcpheron

This is the only place I will take my 3 dachshunds. Not the cheapest place, but if you want the best quality care and treatment for you babies...this is the place. Staff are Exceptional and go out of their way to help relieve the stress and worry when you babies need help. Coco just had back surgery and she is doing wonderful. Glad I found this place!!!

Karina Gonzalez

I want to come here when I get sick! Very nice place, clean, didn't smell, amazing staff, very friendly and caring people. I had to go back twice and each time it was a good experience besides the fact that my little Sydney was sick. They made sure she was okay the next day and comfortable throughout the process. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants the best care for their pet. It was a little pricey but worth every penny! Thank you

D'Ana Schweinberg

It's always an all night event. Tons of waitjng around but nice to have 24 hour emergancy room for my babies

Patti Bogan

My friends brought their pregnant dog there. She was having trouble delivering. They couldn't do it for at least 8 hours and wanted to charge $4,000. They did nothing and wouldn't let them have their dog back til they'd paid $400.

Angela Aguilar

We had to put our dog of 15 years down and though it was SO difficult, the team at this hospital was caring, understanding and to out pleasant surprise they sent us the sweetest momentum. Our sweet dogs imprint in clay with an inscription on back and his name on the front. Just so thoughtful and it brought tears to my mothers eyes. We are so grateful for your love for animals and the families that have to make these difficult situations. Thank you so much, Angela Aguilar, Anita Madden and Ameila Brown

Marti Garvey

The technicians and the veterinarian were empathetic and gentle at the difficult time of euthanizing my beloved dog Ollie.

Sarah Smith

We took our cat to this hospital for medical treatment. We told the staff that our cat doesn't like men, to go slow and have as few people involved as possible. They sedated her, put her in a room with 2 men and because she was "freaking out" they had 5 different people trying to hold her down and attempted to put a cat muzzle on her. They brought her back to the room and told us that was impossible to treat our cat because she too aggressive. They also told us that sometimes you just can't save every animal. They still charged us for everything including the "sedation". We took our cat to Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center where they listened to our instructions, treated our cat successful without any sedation, without stressing her out and informed us that our cat wasn't aggressive but just fearful of men. I do not recommend Veterinary Specialty Center. We felt like the staff had more important things to do, we were not listened to, our time was not valued and we did not feel like they cared about our cat.

Clarinda M

All they care about is the money. Everything, all treatment is based on how much you can pay at the moment. They are not willing to work with you, even though I had already spent $850. My dog did not make it because I could not afford her care. I feel disgusted with this place. If you love your pet take them somewhere else. I wish I had known better but I was in a state of panic and they were open.

Cindy Phalen

My son took his dog there because his dog was in a dog fight. He had one bad bite that he thought might require stitches. They recommended leaving the dog until they could get to him. After a list detailing the cost of treating a "dog bite" the final cost was $1500.00. They called my son several hours later saying the dog lost a tooth and wanted ANOTHER $1500.00 to clean out the area where the missing tooth was. Talk about price gouging.......Looking at the itemized bill I was shocked at the list. This was a small bite that required "maybe" 3 or 4 stitches..... Never EVER will I recommend this place! You don't even deserve one star.......Shame

John Barge

The staff is polite and makes my dog feel comfortable.

Carlos Valenzuela

Totally the most trustworthy and caring veterinary facility in Tucson. Super clean and excellent professional service.

My dog was lethargic ,not eating or drinking. When I picked her up. 2 days later she was diagnosed with pancreatitis which can be managed. But as we got ready to leave she started peeing and passing blot clots. Vet said someone had scraped or punctured her uterine wall causing hematomas. I picked her up later that day. When I got her home she was peeing and passing blood all nite and paced all nite as if in pain. Also her back leg was shaved raw to the bone. Next day I had to put her to sleep she was suffering so much. My vet was shocked at the apparent brutal careless treatment she received. This happened over Labor Day weekend and have yet to receive a response to my several calls.

Heather Parks

Extremely disappointed on how your employees act and treat owners. To the male vet tech who got an attitude with me for paying my bill while I waited for you to bring my dog out, GFY.

Fred Wishnie

Our dog got pretty sick in the middle of the night and we went in at 3 AM. People were very nice and although we had to wait quite awhile to see the Dr. She had a real emergency, we got good service. Bill was reasonable too. We would definitely return if needed.

Beth Stair

We had to put our 18+ year old dog down in 2011 and they were remarkable. Caring, sensitive and know how much this means to you. They left us alone for 3 hours before I could finally say goodbye. Just last week, we had to take our 3 year old to them. Again, they treated her and us with caring, sensitivity and compassion. She had to have surgery for bladder stones and they were competent and quick. They explain everything to you so you'll understand what your pet is going through. I was a mess and they even handled me! They are available 24/7/365 for questions, concerns, etc. I recommend them highly.

I had to bring my dog here this morning at 5 AM after waking up to find him in terrible pain and not able to walk properly. I have always been leery of emergency vet clinics, but this is an incredibly clean building with wonderful staff. I called ahead to make sure I could drop in and the woman that I spoke with was very helpful in giving instructions and the price of an emergency appointment upfront. When I arrived at the clinic, my wait was not terribly long for coming during abnormal hours. The vet and the technician were very caring and sensitive, and they handed my dog very gently. They explained all of the options for diagnosis and were extremely cost conscious. I decided to opt for x-rays even though they told me that I could wait to go to my normal vet to get a lower rate because I wasn't sure how long it would take to get an appointment. I'm glad that I did the x-rays! It turns out that my boy somehow fractured his leg. The cost ended up being lower than I had expected. They found me a follow-up appointment later today to discuss treatment options with a surgeon. While my experience with this clinic is not over yet, I was so blown away with how they handled my situation so far that I had to write a review.

We brought our 8 year old GSD, a retired Slovakian police dog, in on Sunday with bloat. Quick thinking and equally quick action in conjunction with incredibly skilled surgeons saved Rebi’s life. Period. Full Stop. Rebi is alive because of these wonderful people. The staff answered all of our questions professionally and with generous doses of compassion. Rebi’s post op care and the communication with the attending staff is without parallel. Cannot laud enough praise on these wonderful people. Because of the surgeons and staff, we will welcome Rebelia Police Slovakia home tonight to recover from what could have killed her.

Janna Clark

This is the second time we've had to use VSCOT and we continue to be impressed. Our little schnauzer was having severe liver issues and spent three nights at VSCOT having IV fluids. The veterinarians, technicians and office staff were professional, courteous and loving to our fur baby. We can't thank them enough!

This place is great. We live about an hour and a half away from Tucson, and there are no 24 emergency veterinary offices in our town. Our 100 lb male dog was injured in a dog fight, his eyelid was ripped half off and we weren't sure if there was any damage to his actual eyeball. Not wanting to chance an eye injury, we drove here. We called on the way there and they were prepped and ready for him to come in. We got into an exam room pretty quickly, but waited for about 2-3 hours before they decided to keep him for the night. They gave him some pain mediation and anxiety meds. The staff was very nice, clean facility and listened to our instructions on how to handle him. (He is big and kind of sketchy around new people) since we were from out of town, the staff actually suggested a hotel 5 minutes down the road for us to stay in. They told us that Dr. Kubai would be in early the next morning to examine our dogs eye. Promptly 9am the next morning we got a call from the Dr. And was told he needed to go in for exploratory surgery (eye injuries sustained in dog fights can be a lot worse then they appear). They kept him for most of the day, they put up with my annoying phone calls checking to see how he was, and I was informed when he got out of surgery. They saved his eyelid and we got to pick him up that night. Of course it was pretty pricey, around $2000, and that also covered the follow up appointment 14 days later to remove the stitches. when we took him back for the follow up they also did another eye exam with some sort of yellowish tinted eye fluids to check for scratches for free (normally $65). We waited around for a long time picking him up from the original ER visit, and it took a while for the follow up. That was the only downfall to this place. The price was fine seeing as we wanted to do everything possible to save our dog's eye. He is all healed and looks great, we will definitely be returning if anything happens again. We have also suggested this place to our friends and family.

Trista Ferencik

Extremely nice, clean, professional office. I love that they're open 24/7 and the staff is very friendly. That being said, it's 10:00 at night and we've been waiting for four hours for X-rays of our cat. For as much as they charge (and considering they're not busy at all), I did not expect it to take this long. I will not be returning with any of my pets (unless it's a middle-of-the-night absolute emergency) for fear of being stuck here for hours once again.

Kristi Kafader

I had to euthanize my dog on Sunday and I cannot say how wonderful the staff at this office were. They were so kind and compassionate with my dog and myself through the entire process. When my primary vet basically abandoned us, we were treated with amazing care here. I will always be thankful that they were here for us when we needed them. We had also used the dental specialist here on another occasion and she was great.

Contact Mind Over Matters Institute

I would give 0 stars if it was allowed here. The staff seems like they don’t like animals. My dog was in pain and we waited for two hours for them to do something. The guy who came in the room didn’t like when the dog tried to reach him or touch him (he needs to change profession). The staff walk and don’t make eye contact with the the owners and they are not even empathetic about the animals situation. They are more about how much you are going to pay than really taking care of your animal. Last time I will bring my pets here. Every time they say that that is a lot of emergency and even the reception is empty. The wait will be minimum of 2 hours (not counting the time for them to really do something and you can add another 6 hours). Horrible. I wonder if they mistreat the poor animals here. If they don’t like them and the owner is seeing, than imagine what they do when we are not close by. I wonder know why my dogs don’t like to walk in the door when we got here. I don’t see the same reaction on his vet.

Cristian Deluna

Oh man, I've been to some terrible Vets here in Tucson, and this just made me forget all about them!! Everyone here is so friendly and caring. It's a nice and relaxing environment with well mannered, and well spoken employees. They're professional, the wait wasn't long at all, and they absolutely put the health of your dog as first priority. It is a little pricey which doesn't suit everyone including myself, but they're flexible with different options, and they truly care about your pet's well-being. I recommend this place to everyone. If you need a Veterinarian, or a 24 hour emergency hospital, this is absolutely the place to go. Thank you to Justin S. who did a wonderful job examining my 6 month old pup. He really made sure my dog was comfortable, and as stress free as possible. And if you do get caught here waiting for awhile, they do have complimentary coffee and animal treats, as well as vending machines. Overall, Clean, Quick, slightly pricey, but quality is unmatched.

Amanda Estrada

If I could put zero stars I would. Awful customer service and prices are outrageous. My dog needed an orthopedic surgeon, my family vet had recommended this place to me so I had very high hopes. I called before I went in letting them know what I was bringing my dog in for and asked if the surgeon would be available since I was going through emergency. They assured me that I would be able to see and get answers to what needed to be done for my fur baby. Check-in was good, I will give them that. I was called back about 30 minutes after arriving. The floor was filthy, I know animals are in and out all day, but it looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in months. The tech went to take my dogs temp and put the thermometer on the floor and was going to take a temp through her rectum without cleaning it. I stopped her and told her she needed to be sanitary, to please clean it off, her response was, "It's just a dog, it's not going to hurt her." I told her, this may be just a dog to you, but this is my family dog and I would appreciate it if you cleaned it before you decide to stick it in my dogs rectum. She then cleaned it. She then asked what my dogs "problem" was. I proceeded to tell her, which was a torn cruciate and needed a consultation with the Orthopedic surgeon. She went on to tell me that it was a very expensive surgery and if I didn't get it done soon, I may as well just euthanize my pet. I then asked the tech to leave, to get me the surgeon so I could get information from a doctor. The ER doc came in and basically asked me he same info the tech told me, she was much nicer and I did tell her how the tech was and what she told me, the ER doc assured me that there was no reason to out my animal down for such a problem as she was still very young and in very good condition otherwise. She did tell me that I would not be able to see the surgeon that day, as he had already left for the day. At this point I am livid, as I had called to make sure I was going to be able to see the surgeon, as that was the only reason I was going there. This doctor told me the same information my family vet had told me so it was a waste of time and money. The vet left the room without telling me where to go from there, if we were done with the visit or if the tech would be back in. 45 minutes later I went out to the desk asking if we were done and free to go. The lady out at the desk said yes, come out and we'll get the discharge papers. $120.00 later, I'm leaving with the same answers and no visit with the surgeon. As I was leaving I asked to make appt with surgeon and the girl at the front said she didn't know how to, that I would have to call. Needless to say, I went elsewhere and my pup was taken very good care of and got her surgery for way less than what they wanted to charge. They are just money hungry here, they don't care about your pet's wellbeing.

Trevor Dickerson

I brought my dog here under suggestion from another veterinary clinic, as these folks were better equipped to diagnose and treat what was assumed to be a neurological issue. My boy was triaged right away, and although it was very busy, we got into an exam room fairly quickly. The technician explained that since they were very busy with emergencies, it would likely be a very long wait (hours) before the doctor came in, to which I agreed and acknowledged that it was no problem. Much to my surprise, the doctor came in just a few minutes later and checked him out. Fortunately, the doctor (who was excellent by the way) found him to be healthy and explained that his actions were nothing to be concerned of. We were happily on our way out when we stopped to check out and pay, where I was very surprised- not by how expensive it was, but by how it was a third of the price I was expecting. Just an excellent experience all the way.

Haylee Kile

Our dog was bleeding and she ended having a blood disorder. This place and all the vets and techs we're absolutely amazing. They called us daily and kept us in the loop. They kept our girl safe over her 6 night stay and helped her come home to us!! We are forever grateful!

Adam Davis

Service was HORRIBLE!! Needed surgery on my cat. They kept us 7 HOURS waiting for a price of the surgery. They quoted us around $3500. Paid the $114 just to get her looked at and left. Went to different pet clinic for a second opinion. I was quoted $1300 for the complete surgery. Will never go back to veterinary specialty center. Complete waste of my time and money.

Julianne Vu

If I could give 0 starts, I could. My boyfriend took my 9.5 week old puppy here because he was referred by Bernarda Veterinary Hospital. My puppy had diarrhea. Keep in mind that this hospital KNEW that she was JUST dewormed last week and her worm/parasite test came back NEGATIVE last week. She does not walk on random floors, she does not go anywhere where there are other dogs, she's a SAFE puppy. They took a test to test for parvo/worms/parasites and all came back negative. THEY THEN PRESCRIBED HER A DEWORMING MEDICATION EVEN THOUGH SHE DIDN'T HAVE WORMS. FIRST RED FLAG. They ended up charging us $226. $150 for the visit, $60 for tests, $16 for the medicine. PLEASE tell me why it was $150 FOR JUST THE VISIT?!?! Don't go here, do your research and look at the other reviews about price here.

They saved my cat's life after she was attacked by a dog. We came in with her covered in blood wrapped in a towel, I thought she was going to die. They took care of her right away and she made It! She's home now, safe and sound and back to her old self. Praise God and thank you Veterinary Specialty Center!

Megan

They saved our pup's life! They took us right back and started treatment immediately. At the same time they talked us through everything they were doing and why, which was a huge comfort to our distraught 4 year old. Yes, treatment was rather pricey.. but honestly it was very reasonable considering that it was emergency vet treatment requiring overnight monitoring/fluids/meds. (We paid about $1200.. another place took somewhat similar care of my parents' cat for $4000!!) This is a pretty darn busy place, so do understand that the staff can be pressed for time. With this in mind, I never once felt that anyone was being rude, unreasonable, or uncaring with me, my family, or our little buddy Marshal. Thank you!!!

I am conflicted as to how many stars I should give due to the disparate experiences I have had here. I will start with the good. This place was able to get one of my dogs in at the last minute due to a cancellation and it saved his life. I will always be grateful for this. Dr. Vishkautsan is amazing. Truly a class act. She is great at her job and truly cares about her patients. Her follow up on one of our dogs' procedures was amazing and you could really tell she puts her entire heart and soul into her work. She personally called multiple times with updates on our dog when he was in the hospital, and called to follow up after he had left. Dr. McCally was a different story. Before my dog's procedure he was great - he spent time with me to explain everything and answer my questions but it seems as if after he had gotten my money, he no longer had interest in helping. When I went to get his stitches taken out the doctor spent about 2 minutes in the room and then left. He didn't even sit down. It felt very rushed - like he wanted to leave as soon as he got there. There was no follow up, and when I ended up taking my pet to the emergency room there due to excessive bleeding he just put thin surgical tape on the wound and sent a tech out to the waiting room to say there was nothing to be concerned about. It had completely bled through by the time I got home so it was essentially a useless trip. It turns out that it was something to be concerned about. I ended up taking my pup to another vet who did a proper job of bandaging. Eventually my dog had another complication and despite sending several emails with pictures as he suggested I do, several calls from me requesting to talk to him about my dog's complications, and then another follow up email asking why I haven't gotten a response, I still have nothing. It truly does feel like once he got paid he no longer cared about the health of my pet. I do not think he is in the right profession and it really soured my perception of this place. There was also someone at the front desk of the emergency room who I believe should not be in that role. This is a place people go to in times of great distress and emotional toil. The woman would not look you in the eye, was short and annoyed when you walked in to sign in your pet. She even snapped at one of her coworkers in front of the waiting room saying "how many times are you going to ask me that question?!" I didn't catch her name as she never said her name when answering the phone, so I am thinking she has gotten complaints before and stopped identifying herself as a result. I understand that it is likely that people working in an emergency room may become desensitized to the traumatic experiences that are so common to them. But to the people bringing their pets in, it is everything. We pay good money to get care in these emotional times so it would be helpful to be treated with respect and some concern. It is not my intention to be rude or disparaging but I want to be honest with anyone reading this. If you have to come here, it is usually for an unlucky reason so I want you to be well equipped when the time comes. Be sure to advocate for your pet.

The doctor and the rest of the staff are quick, accurate and compassionate. I brought in my poodle mix last night in a crisis that came on so fast that I still am still having trouble comprehending it. She was literally gasping for air and having multiple seizures. Tragically her condition was so acute and severe that I didn't have the heart to continue to watch her struggle. I opted for Euthanasia and the staff was so superb to even giving her oxygen during the procedure to help alleviate her discomfort. I am heartbroken over losing her but that is the price we all pay for being pet owners. RIP Mandy Girl. You will not be forgotten.

I had to take my puppy here as an emergency because she had gotten into a candy bar, she was taken quickly and was taken great care of. The wait was incredibly lomg but it was all worth it in the end. Shes doing better. :)

Our 11 year old English mastiff was on her last legs when she took a very quickly turn for the worst. We rushed here and as we were getting ready to say good bye, she passed away. They hadn't put the catheter in yet, so they didn't charge us for that. It was about $250 to have her cremated in a communal cremation. We got a paw print back. They were extremely professional, very comforting and had no problem with us having our toddler there (as I said, it was very sudden). We miss our Hayley but I'm grateful for their professionalism. I will definitely recommend this place.

I frantically brought my cat in tonight. Jessica was so helpful, attentive and comforting. She thoroughly examined my cat right away, made sure my concerns were addressed and took the time to answer all of my questions. My cat is feeling much better, and so am I. I would highly recommend this place.

Dr Carlson is the best vet I've ever met and I'm sad that she doesn't have her own practice so she can be my dogs normal vet but I'm glad she was able to help my dog and be so caring towards her. Highly recommended coming here. I will always be so grateful towards the people here

I am so very particular when it comes to vets and hospitals for my fur babies... I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this facility and its staff were to my little baby Nessa. She came in for an emergency and we didn't have to sit and wait at all, they took her back right away. They didn't require a whole lot to get started and their treatment saved her life! They allowed me to call whenever I wanted, and they were super tentative to Nessa and her needs. I would recommend this facility til I am blue in the face! You want the best, you have found it.
