Dr. Aguirre, How can I thank you for the kindness you showed our sweet golden retriever Sophie in treating her anemia and encephalitis? You helped me navigate a very difficult time and even though her illness still took her from me, I can not express the gratitude I will always have for you and your wonderful staff for helping me feel at peace with the decision to let her go. You sat with us on the floor, with Sophie in the middle, and let us share our stories of our sweet angel girl while we said goodbye for another hour and I will never forget that. We have only good things to say about Salt River Animal Specialists. Brought in our beagle to see Dr Aguirre for a rhinoscopy after a CT scan showed a mass in her nose. He is a very kind and caring veterinrian and he and his staff were wonderful.

My Tibetan Terrier was diagnosed with IMHA at another animal hospital, which put him in an ICU in an Emergency Animal Clinic. The previous vets and technicians told me he most likely would not pull through. A co-worker of mine put me in touch with a long distance vet who told me to take him immediately to Dr. Aguirre. Dr. Aquirre adjusted meds, eliminated some meds, and within days, my dog was showing signs of recovery. Today, he is completely recovered and I owe it all to Dr. Aguirre and his staff. I HIGHLY recommend this vet.

Chihuahua 14 week old puppy at 6 pounds. Burt snorted a foxtail in his right nostril and after a failed attempt for a regular vet just to scope his nostril and numerous others to turn down the job or exuded zero confidence I ended up here. Dr Aguirre's love for animals is very evident and shines very bright. I have never had more confidence in a medical professional, animal or human, than I did after the exam with him. The procedure went smoothly and the cost came in slightly less than his low side estimate which was so very reasonable especially when compared to two others that nearly caused a heart attack like episode. Thank You Dr. Aguirre and staff for fixing our puppy.

Dr. Aguirre is great! I have been seeing him for years. I brought one of my cats to him years ago when he was at another practice. My boy kitty was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and has since passed. Now, unfortunately, my momma cat has also been diagnosed with the same cancer. So glad I found Dr. Aguirre again. He remembered me and even remembered my first cat's name. He is kind, compassionate and listens. i never feel rushed. He is knowledgeable and cares about my pets. Jessica at the front desk is wonderful - one of the nicest receptionists I have ever met. I fully trust Salt River with my cats care and would highly recommend!

In March this year, we were referred to Salt River Veterinary Specialists by East Maryland Animal Hospital for an ultrasound for our happy and active 10-year old Miniature Schnauzer, Calvin. Blood work showed his liver levels were elevated. Dr. Aguirre performed an ultrasound and diagnosed Calvin with a mass in his liver. We were then referred by Dr. Aguirre to VetMed for surgery to remove the mass. Long story, short, Calvin did not survive the surgery performed by Dr. Radlinsky at VetMed and lab test results showed there was no cancer and no mass. Dr. Aguirre's misdiagnosis resulted in the premature death of our dog and over $6,000 in vet bills. This has been heartbreaking. We do not recommend Salt River Veterinary Specialists.

We had a great experience! Dr. Aguirre's team is knowledgeable and went above and beyond to take care of our dogs, which as everyone knows, are family! The office is well taken care of and in a great area. They genuinely cared about our dogs, even checked up on them later. They were extremely honest and upfront about all of the options--we could not have been happier!!!

My dog developed a tumor in his bladder and was having extreme difficulty urinating. Dr. Aguirre performed an ultrasound and stated he needed to immediately install a ureteral stent, to save my dog’s life. He stated that my dog would be “peeing normally” by the end of the day when I came back to pick him up, so I agreed to the $3,225 operation. After the operation, I noticed a vet assistant was outside with my dog and my dog was still straining to urinate. When I informed Dr. Aguirre of this, he stated that my dog had just went “pee like a race horse” and maybe he just didn’t have any liquids in him when I saw him outside. He then later showed me an ultrasound video of before and after and it showed no obstructions and urine exiting the bladder correctly. The next day, still no improvement, but was told to wait a week. I then took my dog back the next week, as zero improvement. Upon this evaluation, Dr. Aguirre stated that he misread the initial ultrasound – that my dog had a much larger tumor than he originally thought. He also stated in hindsight, he should have installed a longer stent. When I asked about having another operation, he stated he would need to charge me another $3,225. He then stated if nothing was done, my dog would not die from the urethra obstruction. I asked about the ultrasound video he showed to me when I came to pick up my dog -- which showed no obstructions. He told me the video was of another dog and that he showed me the video, so that I could see the results of a successful operation. He made me think originally the video I was watching was of my dog. To make matters worse, Dr. Aguirre charged my credit card $85 for this office visit, for him to tell me he was very sorry that he performed the operation incorrectly and misread the ultrasound. A few months after this ordeal, my dog died. I felt I was entitled to full refund of the $3,225 for his gross incompetence. Dr. Aguirre has refused to return my calls and emails concerning this matter.

Dr. Aguirre is knowledgeable, educated and is kind to animals AND humans! My 13-year old Boston Terrier, Sox, was drooling with his face looking somewhat paralyzed. We just lost our Boxer, Lizzy and could not imagine losing Sox, too. We were referred to a "specialist" due to the dogs age and symptoms. They thought if this was something serious, start with a specialist as to not lose time. We were able to bring in Sox THAT DAY even though the nice gal who answered the phone said they were swamped. "Bring in Sox and Dr. Aguirre said we will find a way to have him examined. We rushed right over and Sox was in-back with Dr. Aguirre almost immediately. We were relived to know that it was a simple tooth infection that cleared up with antibiotics. My wife and I have had many pets and we agreed that Dr. Aguirre's calmness accompanied by his professional "bedside manner" was a BLESSING in today's world of rush, rush and rush. Thank you, Dr. Aguirre and staff for AFFORDABLE AND QUALITY healthcare for our dog, Sox.

My pup was having terrible diarrhea. Then vomiting started. After 2 months on a variety of antibiotics, with no improvement, my vet referred me to Salt River for an ultrasound and/or colonoscopy. Doc there, wisely, only wanted to do an ultrasound on that day as he noted the colonoscopy prep would be, ah, messy, to say the least! Though they were looking at the intestines for abnormalities, a large tumor was found on her liver. A needle biopsy was done. Found it was a slow growing cancer Surgery was done to remove it. It was the size of a grapefruit. Four days after surgery she had stopped vomiting and the diarrhea had ceased. She’s perky, alert and happy! Although she still has the stitches in, she’s acting more like a puppy than a nine year old. Don’t have an official prognosis yet, but in light of her remarkable recovery so far, I’m hoping the future will be rosy. Salt River saved my Addie’s life. I will be forever grateful for their caring, compassionate, skillful and professional behavior. Addie adds; “Arf”.

Dr. Aguirre saved Louie's life. Louie has a liver shunt and was dying before he was correctly diagnosed and put on a proper diet and medication. Two years later, my little pug is going strong. The entire office is helpful, kind, and professional. Dr. Aguirre is amazing.

Dr. Aguirre saved our dog! Sophie, our Rottweiler-Lab mix was sick and getting worse. Every test done by a local vet was inconclusive. Panicked that we were going to lose her, I researched vet internists in the Scottsdale area and was extremely impressed with Dr. Aguirre’s education and experience. I was able to get an appointment quickly after rushing Sophie for a stomach scope and then surgery to remove a blockage at the VCA Animal Referral & Emergency Center of Arizona. Dr. Aguirre quickly and methodically determined probable causes for Sophie’s illness and then tested for each one. Dr. Aguirre thoroughly discussed each finding with me, answered all of my questions, and recommended specific medications and diet changes. In advance of all procedures, each cost was provided and fully explained. Sophie improved within a few days and is continuing to get better! Dr. Aguirre is a phenomenal vet, and like him, every member of his staff is very professional and truly caring.
