We brought our dog here because our regular vet suggested we see a specialist for our dog's breathing problem. The staff was great. All costs were explained upfront as procedures. Since we had seen several success stories going out the door while we were waiting we were looking forward to relatively good news when we got back 6 hours later. That was not to be. The fates had decreed that our dog was dying of cancer and there was no way to treat it. It was just a question of time. Dr. Riensche could not have been kinder in breaking the news to us or showing us the CT scans showing the tumors killing our baby. Now we are just keeping her comfortable until her time comes.

No idea how anyone can say this place is wonderful. Why I tried to give this hospital another opportunity is beyond me. The first time I brought my dog in, in the afternoon, by around 9 - 10pm they started with scare tactics. Stating that my dog needed emergency exploratory surgery or wouldn't make it through the night. What was I to do? I said do it, she made it through the surgery but died the following night. No explanations, no findings from the exploratory surgery. I was then IMMEDIATELY charged $8,600 (within 36 hours of bringing her in) after losing my doberman with absolutely no explanation of anything. I put $4,000 on a credit card that next day. Then within 24 hours, the CFO was on the phone hounding me for the remaining $4,600. I said, "can you at least give me a day or two to mourn the loss of my dog. I just gave you $4,000 yesterday." This place has one priority, and don't kid yourself about this priority either, it's MONEY. That's it ONLY MONEY! This was JUST confirmed again when I attempted to have another dog looked at for tumor removal. DON'T let them dangle the "Only a couple hundred" line in front of you, they will bait and switch you until they drain every penny from you. COMPLETELY HEARTLESS....

The largest veterinary facility I have ever seen, a veritable hospital for animals. Just like a hospital campus on a smaller scale. Our little schnauzer mix needed an ultrasound, staff was very gentle and professional and everything went smoothly. Well I started out with good intentions to get there on time for my fur-baby's appointment but that didn't happen, so I called them and explained that I would be 10 minutes late and they told me it was okay. They took my dog in for his exam and they were done fairly quickly and talked to me about the results right afterwards, and the veterinarian I spoke to answered all of my questions and gave me some other options for my dog to look further into his current health condition. Everyone was very nice and helpful there. I really appreciated that I didn't have to make another appointment to hear the results of the test as I have had to with other veterinarians or wait a day or two for results about the exam. I also was very happy with the way handled my fur-baby, because he really didn't want go with the gal taking back to his exam appointment, so he cut loose out of his collar and leash when she was trying take him back to the exam room and he was running for the door back towards me, she said she would just carry him back to the exam room, he is a small dog so everything went well. The veterinarian told me he was a very nice and easygoing dog.That meant no sedation for him either, so I was happy about that too. Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists is very clean, comfortable, the staff are great and efficient.

I want to like this place. I do. But trying to schedule anything here is a nightmare. Had a cat (that I was extremely attached to) that needed an ultrasound. She wasn't eating. Soonest they could schedule her was just over 2 weeks away. That's kind of ridiculous in an animal that is not eating, especially a cat. Ultimately I ended up having to put her to sleep before she ever even got the ultrasound. Maybe the ultrasound wouldn't have changed to outcome, but it would have been nice to have had the option. Their response when I cancelled the appt was that I should have taken her to their emergency side. When you've already spent well over 1k on an animal, paying twice the price of an already expensive procedure really isn't an option. I had this same experience with the oncology sideless than a year prior. I had a cat diagnosed with a very aggressive form of oral cancer - and they can see him in 6 weeks. He didn't even male it that long before he was drooling blood and unable to eat. I'm really only giving two stars because the people on the phone have been nice. I've literally never even set foot in the building. I kind of hope I never have another animal that needs to go here, because they never live long enough to make it to the appointment since they book so far out.

Wonderful facility, kind and caring staff, and Dr. Church is the BEST. He spent 1.5 hours with us, never acted hurried, and explained everything in great detail. Please understand that I dont owe them money, I was stuck in traffic on my way to the appointment and they told me I'f I wasnt there in 5 mins that I wouldn't get service. My appointment was scheduled for 2:30, yet I was not seen until over an hour later. I love this for 2 reasons: 1. If it was my baby that needed an unexpected procedure, I know she would be taken care of and 2. I received a courtesy call when everyone was caught up and we were seen anyway. My girl was given a lot of love and attention, we received the corrected diagnosis that our vet wasn’t able to see from an X-ray and all of my questions were answered. Thank you!!! The staff from the office to our tech assistant Danette to our vet Dr Riensche, everyone was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. It was our first visit for treatment for our cat Cleo. In order to really find out what her ailment was, it required us to leave Cleo for the afternoon. Anytime a pet owner has to leave their fur kid with a vet office can be slightly stressful, but the staff took excellent care of our kitty. I’m confident should I need any specialty care for our cats, I will be going back to Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists. We trust them with the care of our animals and they exceeded every expectation.

Megan Miller CVT is an excellent representative of DVMS. I know any questions I have will be answered, Megan always goes the extra mile to get those answers. She is wonderful with my pets. Dr. Riensche is also a very good communicator, like Megan. I feel she really listens and that's very important to me...Because at the end of the day these are my pets and I'm the one who takes care of them. I feel Dr. Riensche respects that while being able to bring her medical experience to the table. This is exactly the perfect blend imo :-) If I knew everything I wouldn't be there, so I depend on the expertise of Dr. Riensche, Megan and the entire staff of the Internal Medicine department of DVMS to help me make good decisions regarding my pet's well-being. Due to the level of concen, Dr Church made room in his very busy schedule to see him on an emergency basis the day after I called. Had to bring our senior dog in for an ultrasound . Everyone was so helpful, kind and knowledgeable. Our results were very sad but I would recommend Desert Veterinary to everyone.
