This place is excellent. If your pet is having an emergency, I highly recommend coming here. Last night our chihuahua was having an allergic reaction and so we brought her at the recommendation of our usual vet who was closed. They saw her immediately and everyone we spoke to was kind, helpful, and attentive. Their prices were very reasonable and below the cost of a typical vet in the neighborhood.

My dog has an acute IVDD, and went to their emergency room. The team did everything Ina timely manner. DR. Cimino did an excellent surgery on time and finished the surgery about midnight. My dog is home now and looks great. I hope he can walk again soon.

Our first visit was very good we came in on a Sunday evening there was no wait time and they answered all our questions. They were also very helpful in providing us with different options for our dogs treatment. Very thankful to all the staff. Also very clean place!!

Asia K

They are extremely caring and empathetic to my kitty who had heart failure. Explained everything carefully and extremely good with follow up. I trust them with my baby! Great service.

Ryan Remmen

Amazing vet, caring staff, accommodating service and prompt care with a huge amount of empathy for emergency situations.

Experience service, went to a couple of clients prior to this one. Also had issues with them, rude staff or just disorganized mess. However, this clinic is highly professional and organize. Will come here again, something to keep in mind is the pricing. It's just a bit of the higher end.

I would like to thank wj for his outstanding support on behalf of my pet dog printz. He kept his eye on my situation and did what could do in the tense situation I had been dealing with. Thank you! I will never forget you!!

David S

They went out of their way to look for a chip and identify the owner of a cat that died in front of our building. They then proceeded to contact that person without revealing to us his or her name or information.

One of the best places I've been too. For starters my dog JETSON wasn't feeling to well very lethargic. I took him there around 7:40pm .I walk in the emergency room and right away at the desk they were very helpful. Told me to go straight to room 4, yes I remember the room. It didn't even take 10 minutes and there was a assistant in the room taking my dogs temperature and ask questions so that the information can be giving to the Dr. .To the staff and the Dr. that was in the emergency room that night 10-7-17 just wanted to say your the best and was helpful about the whole situation and thanks for helping Jetson!!!!

More to come because we are grieving right now because of the horrid things that this place did to our family memeber. But I plead with you...please do your research before coming to this place...I beg you to consider the reviews that are not 5 star...if you care for your animal make sure To Get second opinion...this is a teaching hospital with interns and residents..... I read negative reviews and thought that this will not happen to me...it did (sob)...stay away....stay away.. DOS 01.29.2018

Highly recommended for ER visits and your choice as a regular vet!

Most people are absolutely right about this place if I could give it to zero Stars I would is sad that they keep getting away with this over and over and over and over again they are truly concerned with the money not the animals someone needs to make a complaint to the state division of Licensing as well as help them some more people know how rude uncaring they are plus it's all about the money All About the Benjamins

My wife and I had an emergency with our little girl STARR. We went in scared nervous and confused not knowing what was going in with our dog. We were taken care of and was treated so kindly by the staff and Dr. They made us feel protected and secure. Great team.

I went to the hospital per recommendation of my vet as my cat has an FUO diagnosis and all tests were coming back normal, but she was not getting better. Upon walking in, I was able to check in, saw a nurse, and within ten minutes see an ER vet. After discussing her medical history, current results of her tests, the vet then consulted multiple departments and spoke with me about additional tests that may yield results. Although there was no resolution, the vet was honest, realistic, and clear. For those who are concerned about the high bills - it can get very expensive! Investing in pet insurance is the best way to go, some plans reimburse up to 80% after the deductible and do not cost a ton of money monthly ($20-40). Would definitely recommend this hospital.

...Five stars -- if you're rich -- otherwise ONE! We brought our seriously ill cat to the center today. We were seen immediately, the reception staff was friendly and compassionate. The doctor came promptly and gave us a diagnosis. We were told that our cat should be admitted and hydrated, as well as have some tests done. We did not have the recommended amount (we were told to apply for at least $5,000 credit, which would include a lot of interest), so we asked if she could at least stay overnight so she could get hydrated just until we could get her to her vet appointment the next day. Although the doctor told us that our cat might pass away in the night, she advised against having her overnight, since we did not have the $1,500 that we would need to pay for nothing more than a fluid i.v. So we had to take our poor cat back on the subway without treatment, turned away from the AMC because we did not have enough money. We called the Humane Society, and we were told that they could offer the same treatment overnight for $40! Though they are not staffed 24 hours, the difference in price was remarkable, and has made it possible to save the life of our beloved friend. Thank goodness that some institutions actually provide affordable health care rather than simply advertising themselves as helping those with lower incomes, while running a high-end clinic for the wealthy or desperate.

Dr. Schwartz and her team are incredible. The whole staff is kind and caring.

Jennifer Lauren Kulick

I highly recommend them. The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable and efficient. They helped so much when my pet was in pain. Thank you!

Took my puppy there 5 years ago and they just took one look at her and said she needed surgery. Turns out I took her for a third opinion which was a Vet in White plains NY and right away the doctor said we need to test her for Lime disease and other diseases and it turn out He saves her life by finding out she had Autoimmune Disease. If I would have listened to them then my puppy would have died on the table. Get a second opinion after seeing them.

Brittany Wheeler

I have only good experiences at Animal Medical Center. Everyone from the veterinarians to the technicians have been friendly and professional. They have very reasonable prices as well.

I commend this place for its state-of-the-art technology, the loving vets and aides and the understanding of immediacy. Having a sick dog that has lived and continues to live a full and happy life is due to AMC. We tried several private vets, which misdiagnosed or refused to treat the dog. AMC knew what needed to be done and continues treatment. I will agree that the price of treatment is high, but we have not found it substantially higher than many incompetent private vets. And, the love our dog gives us is worth all the money in the world. (PS: get medical insurance and the bills will not be so painful.)

Diana Anc

Honestly the worst experience ever. The receptionist gave me an attitude like I did something to her. The vet intern made it seem like I did not know my cat had a problem. Pricing is ridiculous. Vet interns should definitely not give attitudes to clients who are concerned about their pets. Never again shall I go here. Avoid this place at all costs.

Jovier Sanchez

Very caring veterinarians and staff.

Lost my baby due to their incompetence

Horrible energy here. I'm forever scarred by my experience here. A mere intern Nate, condescending & unprofessional, wanted to tell me what to do, put my cat to sleep asap. They held her hostage 2.5 hours, kept her in back as i sat crying in the lobby because i didn't want to be separated from her. The doctor who joined the Nate told me and my ex-bf that we were cruel to not do what they say. My cat was 19 and had renal failure, but she lived 1 more week so at WE got to choose how & when to ha e euthanasia done. Taking her out of AMC was the best decision, going there in first place was the worst. Also the triage nurse said things that were not appropriate, a fact which Dr Goldstein later agreed with me. Point is, they handled things horribly and were incompetent seemingly unable to get basic info into their system. The location & building are so negative like a prison. My cat died 7/15 with a calm, caring professional vet elsewhere. I regret ever stepping into AMC.

Fernando

The doggie service is terrible and it is super expensive for no apparent reason. Terribly disappointed in this place, not recommended

Cheryl MacGyver

As others here have said, this organization is more about making money then helping animals. Seems to go against why they initially formed: to help animals when their owners could no longer do so. Shame on you Animal Medical Center. No one should ever be forced to put a loved one down because treatment is too expensive.

Had a very good experience with my cat's dental work.. Everything was excellent. The dentist went above and beyond to provide the very best care.. Highly recommend.

Chick Weisse Veterinarian I was unable to give Chick Weisse the veterinarian zero stars via google so Chick Weisse the veterinarian got one by default but Chick Weisse the veterinarian deserves zero stars. Chick Weisse the veterinarian is unprofessional but charges professional prices. Chick Weisse the veterinarian will never return your phone call. I didn't read all the bad reviews of Chick Weisse the veterinarian on all of the other sites that describes how much Chick Weisse the veterinarian lies. Please read this about Chick Weisse the veterinarian and beware of Chick Weisse the veterinarian. Chick Weisse behavior as a veterinarian is criminal! You have been warned about Chick Weisse the veterinarian stay away!

This hospital took thousands and thousands of dollars from me convincing me they could save my dog. In the end, they accidentally paralyzed my dog from the chest down. Did not even help me carry her out of the hospital and never took a phone call again from me. My dog died a month later. I had 2 different vets tell me that I was in the right. Dr. Wallace was rude and ignorant and made false promises. I never did anything about it. I just mourned the loss of my best friend. This happened approximately 16 yrs ago. I finally decided to speak up.

Christopher Pennington

Simply put AMC saved Napoleon's life. The staff from the reception team to the doctors themselves were incredible, compassionate and highly skilled. Impressively AMC is dedicated to training the next generation of vets also and I am sure these young dedicated professionals will go on to save many loved animal friends.

Lilandra Turull

THEY KILLED MY DOG DUE TO MISDIAGNOSIS AND NO COMMUNICATION. these vets are horrible and only care about money. they don’t allow you to go with your pet to the examination as if our pets can speak for themselves. They gave my dog loads of medication he did not need to jack up the price and then did not give me an itemized receipt. They forced him to walk on a broken leg and he fell over. he was elderly and needed urgent care and all they did was make his situation worse and charge us so much money. they diagnosed him with heart disease and refused pain medication due to this, turned out he never had heart disease and could’ve been on proper pain medication. then they gave him the wrong prescription. due to their failures my dog was in so much pain and his condition worsened and we were forced to put him down. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!! try emergency veterinary group! but don’t take them here.

Asia K

They are extremely caring and empathetic to my kitty who had heart failure. Explained everything carefully and extremely good with follow up. I trust them with my baby! Great service.

Very unpleasant service on the phone with Maria

I was so impressed with this establishment. We never expected to receive news that our 16 week old puppy had a heart defect and will only have months left to live. Dr. Bond and her team were wonderful and sensitive from the beginning. My puppy was receiving medical care within minutes of arriving, and they called us twice a day to keep us up to date with his heath status. I felt that they genuinely cared about our dog and situation. I would wholeheartedly recommend the AMC to anyone seeking emergency and specialized medical care.

Marlyn Matias

This hospital does NOT care about your Pets. I took our 6 month old puppy he had fallen and he broke his leg. The X-ray which was ($270.99) which was only 1 confirmed it indeed was broken. The “Doctor” which we later found out was an INTERN Dr. Sindumani Manoharan was so cold, rude and rushed us, she did NOT even look at our puppy she went straight to the computer and began to tell us that we have to pay $4500.00 minimum right away and that our puppy had to stay overnight for surgery. We asked to speak to surgeon and asked to see our puppy and she said it was not a good idea. Something did not sit well with us and I did not trust her or this money hungry hospital and I asked to take our puppy home and bring him to his regular hospital which is amazing (Harlem Animal Hospital) the next morning. The “Dr” brought out our puppy with a splint bandage and practically threw him in my arms as I was settling the bill at the front desk. He was scared and very drugged so I wanted to settle bill quickly and bring him home to care for him until the next day. The Bill for this visit was $1,010.22 This was for an X-ray, the visit and the splint. Upon returning home I notice that they had shaved my puppy’s other leg. I looked at my bill and there were over $400 of things they did that was for his intended surgery which I did not approve of at all. They charged me for a catheter, and Istat chem 8 and a blood Gas test. ALL false tests that were not needed for a splint. I called several times later to resolve and ask questions to no help. Super long story shorter- Our pup was taken to his regular primary care vet and then upon recvomwndation to Blue Pearl to see a an othropedic surgeon. He is now in a cast he Did NOT have surgery as a cast was an option the surgeon gave us...and yes Blue Pearl is pricey as well but not as bad BUT they truly are 5 star service. I will highly recommend Blue Pearl or Harlem animal hospital. Amazing places that care for your pet. Not like AMC which seems all they are interested is money and not your furry babies. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL! They are expensive for no reason They do NOT care for your animals

Waited for 3 hours for me and my dog, who is suffering from a painful earache, to be called in. Doc tells me he will take my dog into "the back" to perform a full checkup and then look at ear. And it will take another hour at least. We are sitting in an exam room, fully ready for ear inspection. I say he doesn't need a checkup, I have a regular vet for that, he needs his ear looked at.. nope that's not how they do things. It's going to take at least an hour for a checkup and someone to look in his ear. I realized they want to charge money for things he doesn't need that I can't see them doing. No way. It's greedy and cruel. He's in pain but the actual source of the pain is going to be ignored for another hour, maybe. This place is for desperate situations if nothing else is open.

Abingdon Square Vet

You cannot beat this level of medicine, if your pet is sick. Dr. Palma is a genius. I highly recommend Dr. Palma and AMC for emergencies, diseases, or illnesses ♥️

Violeta Valentino

The service is excellent when you get there with your Pet! At the phone they are RUDE, they have no idea of what is Courtesy. If they loose something that is the client property, they do not apologize. I had an appointment there and from our Veterinarian in the Bronx all the Medical Record was fax. They responded that it never got there. My turtle was sick and admitted there the Dr. suggested us to leave the carrier. The next day when we went for the turtle: the carrier wasn't found. It was new. They bill for the admission, but they did not even mention the carrier! I do not give them the 5th Star because of the above!!

The doctors are great! , customer service needs help. I had a bad experience with customer service. They are very rude and uncompassionate. They didn’t even smile, greet or even say thank you. As I walked in there where two girls in the front entrance desk in a deep conversation they didn’t even notice me enter. I was lost and took the wrong side elevator. A nurse that was on the elevator there showed me the way once I got to the second floor I headed to the front desk and asked her if I could sign in. She said did you check in downstairs I said no. She said to me well you need to go back downstairs and check yourself in. The building , I guess is going under renovation, she told me to follow the neon orange line on the floor, I had to take my dog back downstairs and tell the girl at the lobby to check me in. All she asked was my dogs name nothing else, then she gave me the paper and a yellow type wrist band. I headed back upstairs and waited to see the doctor. The visit went amazing I had all my concern and questions answered. When I was ready to check out, the receptionist didn’t explain anything all she gave me was the total. I choose to come to this animal hospital because my pets records are here and I’m comfortable knowing the doctors can always refer back to the past exams of my pets, but honestly after that last visit I rather start finding somewhere else where the receptionists can be nice. A simple smile or a simple greeting. That’s all

The behavioralist working with me and my dog noticed something was wrong with his legs so I took him to the vet immediately but there was no diagnosis. Another vet couldn’t find the issue either but after an hour with dr. Schwartz she found a huge mass between my max’s shoulders just by doing a physical exam. Even though it was the worst possible news I could’ve gotten, I was so grateful that Dr. Schwartz found out what the issue was immediately. max has cancer and the team was very honest with me and said that to just enjoy my time left with him. I’m sure they could’ve taken thousands upon thousands of dollars from us to treat the cancer with the result ending up to be the same but they opted not to. They help me give Max quality of life for the remaining time he has left. Dr. Schwartz and the staff at AMC have been tremendously supportive to me and Max’s needs.

This place is a lifesaver for my pet. I have a 4 pound rabbit and the exotic vets at this place especially Dr. Quesenberry has saved him several times. He has chronic facial abscesses and his nasal passages slightly obstructed as a result of the chronic infections. She has performed multiple surgeries on him to clear the abscesses and his face has fully restored but he will never be 100% due to this issue.I believe the vets here have given him years of life due to the constant care and detail they give him. I highly recommend the exotic vets at this place. They care about your pet as much as you do..

On 10/08/19 I brought my dog Charlie into AMC frantic with a lamb bone stuck in his esophagus very close to his stomach he’d gotten into my trash can at home an X-ray at his vet revealed it now get this I’d paid $527 just for that visit I had no idea how I was gonna pay for AMC but I took the referral anyway when we arrived I was immediately ushered into a triage room with a nurse i told her our plight I’m not able to pay she put me at ease and said let’s just take this one step at a time she took Charlie into the Drs let’s just say Charlie was in good hands bcuz I didn’t see Charlie anymore until it was time to go meantime they got me situated by having me file for funding I filled out one I got declined but not to worry I qualified for another Charlie soon went into surgery it was some tense moments but he came thru with flying colors I can not say enough about AMC they are just Heaven sent they turned my desperation into hope and I’m glad to say my Charlie is doing very well today bcuz of these angels thank you so much AMC for giving Charlie back to us good as new

AMC on 62nd performed remarkably well and gave comfort during an unpleasant experience. Upon entering the AMC with a 40lb Aussie mix (Inoperable Grand Mal seizure almost 30 minutes carried by a terrified owner), The Emergency room greeted me immediately and made all effort to save a best friend who was on her last moments. , The professionalism of the Doctor and staff under such circumstances made a sudden and rather sad loss, easier.

Melissa Formisano

My dog received major spinal surgery at the animal medical center and I am so pleased with their care. I highly recommend this hospital to anyone. Everyone that works here is extremely kind and caring. My dog is now walking again thanks to the high quality care at the animal medical center.

Elias Araujo

This place only cares about money. My girlfriend took her dog here to get hip surgery and they charged her 17k. She had to pay half up front. Just take a moment to process that? How is that right? Her dog just had hip surgery again on the other side and her regular vet only charged 2500. This place takes advantage of the situation because its an "emergency" that is insane. I read some reviews about owners having to lose their dogs because this medical center would not negotiate or give a reasonable price and its honestly disgusting. I also noticed the owner does not respond to negative reviews

Squirrel Zurkow

I am pretty upset about AMC's values with regard to feral cats. I brought in a trapped feral who was injured and over 1/2way to term. They did a rudimentary inspection on her BUT they didn't do a SNAP test. Cost $600, but that might not be unreasonable for emergency care. BUT...How could they not do a test for FiV, and at the same time, recommend that i amputate her leg, abort late term, and put her back outside in 3 days after all that trauma? Angry.

Jayne Roth

Unbelievable care!! I can’t trust any local Vet anymore. I know when I go there, my pet is in the best care. It’s worth every $. I’ve had two emergencies with my cats teeth. They’re amazing!!, but they are very expensive. I would hope they have some kind of financial assistance. I don’t think most people that go there with their beloved pets could afford it. A bunch of years ago I went there with my male cat that couldn’t pass urine. Between the minor surgery and the few days stay it was thousands. Still praise them and what they do.

Kevin Brock

My wife brought our dog here for a full bladder ultrasound today. After being there for 2 hours, she ultimately had to leave without the ultrasound because our dog was losing her mind. I understand this is also an emergency clinic, but they need to be better staffed and far more communicative to the people who have appointments.

bill gonzo

I understand it is an old NYC building, but your walking into a hospital that is dirty and overcrowded, the wait was over 6 hours for our dog and he did not get anesthesia! Its staffed with lots of Interns who do not pass the correct information regarding your dogs issues to the doctor...or any one of the many doctors who might end up seeing them. They also lost my original helpful medications for my dog. The Dispensary and Cashiers department are the most helpful, but there is only so much they can do, the place is a meat market its just to big, delivering conflicting and poor overall service.

Joe Wehry

The AMC cared for our two cats, one in emergency services and the other, longer term cancer treatment. The staff is sensitive to the needs of the pet owners. Treatment options are discussed openly, estimates are fair and accurate, and clients given a free choice of what course to take.

Lucy and I love the doctors at Animal Medical Center!

I had to change vet for my parrots and it was not very easy decision to make. I have read some of the reviews for amc. Im sorry that you had that experience. Yesterday was my 1st time with my two parrots , sonny and pj (amazons) When i walked in , i was amazed at the size of this place, I was greeted with a smile , walked to the reg desk, got my papers and headed to the waiting room. Once again i was amazed, very clean place even though they are doing construction. There was water , coffee and tea for us humans and bowls , treats for the dogs and cats. After waiting a little bit i was called in. I was nervous i have to admit because it was our 1st time for check here. Dr Quesenberry and the vet tech were awesome. I was even more amazed on how the vet tech handle my orange wing amazon sonny. Because i know she hates seeing the vet. I had blood work done. beak and one leg band removed. Had all my questioned answered in a professional manner. One of my birds has ABV. I got his meds the same day. Had them email roudy bush company for his special food. I am one happy person that i made the right choice seeing dr. Quesenberry and her vet techs. As for pricing goes. well i have to say this. yes its not cheap. Then again i have exotic animals so i know what the expenses are. I highly recommend DR Quesenberry !

I wish I could give more stars to this hospital. Amazing staff-clerks, assistants, and providers; very clean and organized. Recently, my husband and I had to take our 10y old dog Davy to a neurologist, after being referred by our vet. Resident Dr Olsen and attending Dr McCue worked with us on trying to get our doggie better. Unfortunately, my dog's illness was terminal, so after careful consideration, at a second visit, my husband and I had to make the hard decision of relieving his pain, forever. The dedication of the providers, their skill set and passion for their work shined through. They guided us through the process step by step. They were able to provide us with a full understanding of the suspected diagnosis, implications and possible costs before asking for our consent. We were not rushed. I would highly recommend this hospital. Sweet people, comprehensive and individualized care for your pet.

krystle lopez

These people are the worst rude & all they care is about the money . Between parking & the services was ridiculous. Before off Another place or a rent

So I read the reviews first before going to this place, and I should of taken the reviews as a red flag. But being so concerned about my dog, especially when the ASPCA said there nothing more they can do to help him. So I was desperate. We walked in to the hospital, they took him right away. But the doctor that was assigned to us was a really cold b!@#$%. When I gave her a brief story of what landed us there at AMC, the first thing that came out her mouth was "this is so frustrating". Wasn't sure if she meant that towards us or just in her life in general. But if I had to choose, I would say it was towards us. She was very cold , no sympathy, no emotion, she didn't even exam or look at my dog. Basically treated us like 2nd class citizens. She said I'll do whatever you want, it would be $1000 to keep him overnight and $500- $600 for an ultrasound. Just throwing out numbers as if we didn't have the money to pay for there services and was trying to scare us away with the prices. She also said if he's eating , drinking and using the bathroom he should be fine since he not experiencing any pain or discomfort. Like really ???. So we left .I know my dog is sick, I just want to get to the bottom of what he haves, I know we may not be able to cure him, but I just want to be able to keep him comfortable and and pain free .So It would be nice to know what he haves. So now I'm in the process of finding somewhere else to do an ultrasound for my dog. Since this place didn't give two s!@#$% about my dog. That will be the last time I go there.

I had an emergency with my dog and although AMC had all my info, the receptionist asked me, "So how did, you hear about us?" Really?!?!? My dog is extremely ill and you're asking me how I heard about AMC? I told her to please just have my dog checked in and looked at, and she said she wouldn't be able to until I answered this question. The vet tech wasn't much better, telling me that my dog was blind. My dog isn't blind. The attending vet finally showed up to speak with me after I'd been waiting hours at AMC with no update. And she only showed up because I asked a different receptionist if she could please give me an update on my pet. The Vet was nice and professional, but AMC really needs to get better front desk people and vet techs. I won't be going back there. My dog's primary veterinarian suggested I use Veterinarian Emergency Services on 2nd Avenue (a block away from AMC) bc they're good about updating people and they let you stay with your pet while they're being treated. I hope to not have another emergency, but if I do, I'm definitely not going back to AMC. AMC used to be good, but not so much anymore. I should've left after the receptionist asked me how I had heard about them. It's all about the $$$$ to them.

Roxana Guerra

Has a special department for exotic pets. AMC is pricey but is one of only two hospitals in NYC (all boros) that can treat any ailment or emergency in exotic pets such as reptiles, birds, etc. I usually go to my vet in Brooklyn but certain procedures they aren't equipped to do in exotics. Saved my dear turtle who needed surgery.

Charlie Zimmerman

I took my dog there at 12:30 a.m. and they took us back immediately and dealt with the situation perfectly. They were very quick and knew how to handle a sick dog.

Bryant Jacobs

The Vets are wonderful and so is the staff. They take much better care of my two cats that our former vet did

Kyle J.

Night and Day difference in comparison to other options. Took my cat here with a "broken leg" per ASPCA exam 2 days ago, only to find out that all she had was a cat bite. The doc here was super cool. She economically examined and treated my cat. Was very thorough in explaining exam results and course of treatment. My time and money here was well spent in comparison to the nightmare BS ASPCA put you through.

Alex Contreras

If I could give less than one star, I absolutely would. I arrived with my sister and our dog, brightened by the fact that they immediately took our little dog and were stabilizing her immediately. When the doctor called us into a room, I was in absolute shock to find out that we would have to pay $8,000 UP FRONT in order to take care of our dog. As we tried to explain to the doctor that we could not afford it and if there was a way we could have a payment plan, these heartless people just told us that there was no way to do that. Instead, the doctor offered the put our dog to sleep for the low price of $220. When we were obviously distraught by this, the doctor kept on trying to tell us that we cannot take her home because the dog was in a terrible condition. It is unbelievable that I had to lose my dog because they expected us to pay that much money up front. They will only treat you if you have the money. Take your pets elsewhere to avoid being scammed.

My cat had an emergency one night and I took her to BluePearl as it was closest. Didn't like the experience at BP, very hasty examination (5 mins) and was quickly handed a bill of $1,300 for all the recommended tests. AND was charged $185 for the 5 mins exam/'emergency run' in which they didn't do anything... Anyways, a week later, my cat needed another emergency visit and my choices were to have another repeat of BP or try AMC entirely new. I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and go to AMC. The experience the next 2 days at AMC really wowed me and I couldn't be happier with my decision to go to somewhere new. I'm so glad I have now found a great vet to take my kitty God forbid anything else happens in the future. From the start, the AMC nurses and vets were very knowledgeable and moved quickly to tend to my cat and her condition. The unfortunate thing about AMC is that it's probably more cost-friendly so there's much more people here. At BP, I was the only customer in the waiting area in the middle of the night, compared to maybe 10 others at AMC the same time on that particular day. However, they seemed to have everything in order still and much staff on hand. Throughout it all, I was extremely impressed with AMC - the nurses and the vets. Very attentive, caring, knowledgeable, warm & friendly, and oh my, the vet must have called me 4x that day when my cat was being performed on for all these tests, to always keep me updated. A nurse gave me a call in the morning to update me on her overnight status. The vet called later to ask for permission to conduct Echocardiogram. The vet called again after performing the Echocardiogram and to inform me she's going to put her under anesthesia. She called in the afternoon again to give me the results from the tests and inform me her status after anesthesia. AND when my cat was discharged and I went to pick her up, she saw me in person at her office to go over everything and answered every question I had. Super duper attentive I couldn't believe it, yet I was SO touched by the love and care, and how meticulous AMC personnel were and the assurance they gave me that my kitty was in great hands. I really appreciated the constant updates, otherwise I'd be having a panic attack hahaha. *Shoutout to the awesome vet I had - Dr. Elizabeth Appleman of Internal Medicine!! She's absolutely the the THE BEST and most caring vet I've ever had, and I've been to more than 7 or 8 already. She's the one that constantly kept me updated throughout the day and this whole ordeal. Even after my cat has been discharged from the hospital and about a week later, we received an email from Dr. Appleman to give us the biopsy results and to ask about my cat's condition since. Very caring! Of course, I don't expect every vet and nurse at AMC to be as attentive as I had, but at least the overall experience there was great and a huge relief. At least everything I experienced and witnessed there, including other patients and their families, all around me I saw love and that was very touching, that people aren't working there just for a job, but for love and passion. Highly recommend Animal Medical Center. Their prices and rates were also much more reasonable than BP, especially for the amazing service you're getting.

Terrible and racist pleze dont go there

If you love your animal and care for their health and well being then please do not bring them here. My dog suffered from a bite and needed stitches to stop the bleeding and instead she was sent away by the hospital staff to continue to bleed out after sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours. My dog is now worse than when I brought her in. I do not believe that anyone should take their pet to this hospital because the staff clearly do not value the lives of animals.

Sophia Barnea

The best. They are pricey but took the hest care with my bird.

tracy reese

Love taking my Star to the vet. We always have a great experience.

Bernice Patten

We came in with our dog that needed emergency treatment. The receptionists, aides, nurses and doctors all went above and beyond for us and our dog. Multiple staff members checked in on her progress and kept us well aware of procedures and costs throughout the process. We are so appreciative of their special care and love, especially our technician, Jason and vets Hannah and Brett!

I took my dog to The Animal Medical Center between 7 and 8pm and couldn't believe the nonsense I was told upon my arrival. I came here because my dog was pooping blood outside while I was walking her. So I wanted to make sure that she didn't have some kind of illness. Timeline of events.... 1. Nurse asked me questions about my dog and why she was brought in. Because my nurse saw a very active/energetic/happy dog, she automatically assumes my dog is perfectly fine and there was no emergency. She literally told me that taking my dog's stool sample wouldn't be necessary. (RED FLAG). Why on earth would you say "The stool sample doesn't really tell you much information"? 2. They treated my arrival as if it wasn't an emergency. I was told that I had to wait an hour and 30 minutes until the vet sees my dog. (That was too long) 3. I waited for a while and was told that I still had to wait for an additional hour and a half because my dog was in stable condition. So since my dog was not lethargic or showing other critical symptoms, she shouldn't be seen right away?? I don't think I will be coming back for any other emergencies with my dog. I am so glad I walked out before she saw the vet. Save your money and go some place else.

Johanna Brett

This is the place to go in an emergency. My dog was minutes away from being lost, after infesting vitamins to the point of seizures that put him in a coma. These doctors reacted immediately upon his arrival, took the best care, and because of them I still have my pup, fully recovered.

Stan Gendlin

Saved our puppies life with surgery for his serious life threatening birth defect. It was more expensive than a regular vet or surgeon but that’s what you pay for having some of the best veterinary doctors in the world look after your pet. It’s very hectic when you get there because of so many emergencies so be prepared to wait if it’s not truly a life threatening emergency. Yes we spent a bunch of money here but the surgery went flawlessly the cost was way less than they quoted and we are extremely happy our puppy will have a long life now! Thank you to dr. Lisa bazzle and dr fieri for saving our dogs life!

Debbie Cohn-Orbach

I couldn't be happier with the care my cat received from Dr. Riback. The doctor took his time explaining the procedure my cat would be undergoing as well as what else he would be looking out for. He was very patient answering my questions, and urged me to contact him via email if I had additional questions. When the surgery was over, Dr. Riback called me to let me know that my cat was recovering well, explaining what was done, and what possible dental issues my cat might experience in the future.

Kevin Brock

My wife brought our dog here for a full bladder ultrasound today. After being there for 2 hours, she ultimately had to leave without the ultrasound because our dog was losing her mind. I understand this is also an emergency clinic, but they need to be better staffed and far more communicative to the people who have appointments.

Jo Jensen

Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff who got us in for an appointment with Dr. Farmer the same day. New kitty was pretty sick and is doing much, much better just a few days after receiving an injection and some antibiotic eye ointment. I also learned from Dr. Farmer how to put the eye ointment in without stressing the cat. Excellent clinic which I highly recommend!

Hannah Coakley

Unless your pet is on death's door and you have literally NO WHERE else to go, do. not. go. here. They charged me exorbitant prices for tests that I still haven't seen the results of almost a month later. Gave my dog medication without the results of any tests? VERY expensive medication. If you can, wait to take your dog to a vet that cares about their wellbeing, not your money. Do. Not. Go. Here.

Paloma Ventosilla

Best animal hospital in the world, Surgery department is the best :)

Sonia Elena

Rude staff and all they want is your money. My rat was put on antibiotics by another vet but they weren’t working. They encouraged me to come here since my regular vet didn’t have any openings and rats can quickly succumb to respiratory illness. I came to AMC and they told me there was nothing they could do - UNLESS I wanted to pay $500-$1000 to have him admitted. I told them other treatments my regular vet had done in the past without admitting him. They said they could try those things, but only if I admitted him and paid all that money IN ADDITION to the treatment. The woman who explained this to me was very rude on top of it all.

Emily Kelly

The Doctors are amazing and take the time to explain everything including, calling you before and after surgery. The staff in the billing area can make mistakes however so pay special attention to your bill before you pay.

Maksim Melnikov

Dr. Keyserling, Christine is truly an amazing human being. Yesterday I had to let my my best friend Milo go, he was only 5 years old, but there were no other option left for. They could of performed the surgery, just to charge for it instead of telling me the truth, but I was treated with respect and I knew my option right away. Dr. Keyserling, Christine was compassionate and kind entire time, I was given a private room and as much time as I needed before I was ready to let him go. He was in too much pain to be so selfish and stretch that time, and tears in his eyes made me cry nonstop. The process itself was very fast, but I had the chance to hold his paw, whisper in his ear “I love you with all my heart.” I felt his last breath, and he was gone. I was still given the option to spend time with his body as long as I needed. I just couldn’t stop crying, it was too much. Kind words from staff, no rushing, they gave me every respect to allow me to grieve for my best friend who is now gone. It was right from the start, I came in, no extra bs, staff ran out took Milo from me, and I knew I came to the right place. I’m a nurse myself, so I knew my dog was declining very fast. Who ever is reading this, cherish your best friend, bring him/her here, they offer packages for needed procedures if you’re lucky to have that option.

Maggie Keats

Supremely competent, resourceful and compassionate group of veterinarians. My pets have received excellent care whenever they have been treated at AMC.

Maria Angelica Sanchez

Today I have to put my cat Oreo to sleep, he was very sick and God put an angel on my way, Dr Kelly Sullivan. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

J Fish

Great emergency vet. We were seen right away and our puppy was receiving treatment before we were finished registering! The vet was very knowledgeable and presented our options clearly. He was splinted and we were on our way without further ado.

scarlette widow

this place dont care about your pets, they just care about money , came there with my pet he had a henatoma on his left ear they drained when i came to the ER discharge me , when i went home ear was puffing again, came back with in a hour din't do anything send home with my dog,,,, they just told me to call for surgery i called and next surgery available date is on may 14 recepcionist was really rude when i called.. and i got charge $333.37 for nothing they dind do anything they could the surgery there not send home and have me back and ford........ everything they see it is just money and money..... while i was there 3 dogs die..... jummm

Emely Quizhpi

This place basically robbed me... the doctor did nothing to help my dog with his problem, he needed urgent help we were desperate so we came to this hospital but it was a huge mistake. the doctor told me straight to my face i can not to anything to help him with his pooping problem. i spend $500 that night for what?.. my dog instead of pooping out normally he began pooping blood. my dog is thankfully fine today because i received urgent help from a different doctor who saved my dogs life. because the doctor at this hospital would've left my dog to die. P.S after reading all these reviews.. this hospital is 100% A$$.

Jenny Park

They killed my dog. They’re all about $$$ and everyone there is unqualified. If you love your pet don’t bring them here. They also don’t show you anything they’re doing to your pets and make you wait behind closed door. They killed my dog and gave him injections without my consent. They did that so they can charge me more on my bill. They’re crooks. DO NOT GO HERE ITS ALSO NONPROFIT- think of all the rich people that back this hospital up. They’re a mafia

J C

Sincerely joseph curet

Ingrid Yacono

I highly don’t recommend this place to anyone. I took my five year old Yorkie who wasn’t too bad and she was just shaking and I decided to take her here but I didn’t read any reviews because I was so desesperately to take her to a hospital. They told me that they needed to do EKG and do some other test on her. They kept her the whole night and I went home next morning I received a call saying that my dog didn’t wake up from morphine. Idk whaat they hell they did to my baby

Kathy Baxter

The Doctors & staff took great care of my baby. Great job.

Holly F.

if I could give zero stars I would.

Anna Aidinian

AMC is a great hospital, the staff is genuinely caring, nice and helpful. And Dr. Rachel. St. Vincent’s professionalism and dedication is exceptional, she is one of the most knowledgeable and caring doctors. With her help our cat Moby got through very challenging times. Many thanks to Dr. St. Vincent and AMC for all they do for our pets! Anna A. and Aram Abgarian

Nikateer

It's the best animal hospital for me.

David Fleming

I wish human hospitals were this responsive. The staff here took my cat in immediately and checked her out and gave us options. The doctors treated me and my pet with the utmost respect and expediency even though they had several other things going on.

Daniela Navarro

I had to take my cat here at 10PM at night for an emergency. I was helped right away and my cat was taken for examination within 10 minutes of arriving. The veterinarian kept me informed the entire time and gave me an update every 10 - 15 minutes. What I loved is that they gave me different options for treatment. The staff was friendly and understood my concerns. The final bill also wasn't as much as I would have expected for an emergency visit.

Rick Rikkardo

I did not go there this time. But i take my dogs there when they need to go. (God forbid) hope they don't need to go. They are 2 healthy furbabies.

Jeanine Glass

These people are so great with animals, I absolutely love the level of professionalism and service that I get when I come here every time. It is my favorite animal hospital in New York City

Sheila Rosario

I love this place. Put my Michee (15 year old orange tabby) down about three years ago. The compassion still stays with me to this day. The support of the staff and the doctor still brings a tear to my eye. I only come here when my yorkie or maltese have an emergency because they are a bit pricey. Very knowledgeable, kind, compassionate, and clean. Worth every single penny :)

Edward Grinnan

This hospital is first rate for emergencies (though Blue Pearl is a close second) and for complex situations...if you can ever get an appointment with a specialist. They seem overbooked and have trouble answering their phones. There is also the question of price. They are ridiculously expensive, seem indifferent to a person's ability to pay and are probably guilty of padding the bill. On the plus side they do important research and advanced testing. Get yourself a good neighborhood vet and use these guys only when you have to.

Jennifer Fevold

I feel like my dog receives good care here, but I can't say I enjoy going. Even the most basic trip for vaccines seems to take 90 minutes. We've waited as much as 30 minutes after our appointment time to be seen. Checking out and getting meds takes a while after that.

Dope Hobbyist

I live in India, but I reviewed this place because I want be a Vet here and that's my dream. I am just of 16 but I wish in future I could work at this wonderful place. And AMC you are the best in NYC.

Stacey McLarty

I've been very happy with the care I've received for my elderly dog. The staff always treats us with compassion and common sense. As an owner of a geriatric dog, I want to be careful to avoid procedures that would extend his life at the expense of his quality of life; staff has always been supportive of that goal, as well as reasonable and thorough in their explanation and assessment of the risk/ benefit analysis.

Barbara Walker

This is the place to take your pet to be cared for. clean, professional and honest. What more could you ask for? Oh and there's pharmacy available on the facility! Love this place!

Jared Vitolo

Dr. Latney was extremely gentile and gave my parakeet the best possible care he could have received. She is a true professional and made every decision in the best interests of my pet and kept me informed about the options and costs along the way. Perhaps this should go without saying, but Dr. Latney really seems to love her job and the pets under her care.

Meredith Mannix

I feel like a lot of the negative reviews for Animal Medical Center focus a lot on practices that are common and necessary for all animal hospitals. Emergency rooms generally mean you will be waiting especially if your pet is in stable condition and paying 300 for urgent care is pretty standard. Just compare that to going to the ER yourself without insurance. We had a really great experience here. Our dog started vomiting uncontrollable and had very bloody diarrhea and was taken in by a nurse immediately who was very gentle and kind. She was seen by an on-call intern about 20 minutes later (which is pretty standard if not fast) and the vet was awesome. She gave us many different choices for diagnosis and treatment and explained all of the pricing upfront and told us what she thought the best course of action was. She spent a lot of time with us explaining these options and seemed to really care about the well-being of our dog. Dr. Chou and nurse/ front desk assistant that I can't remember because I was frantic when I came in, thank you so much for taking great care of Pegi!

Ian Scott

I originally had a 5 star review based on my initial visit but have changed it. While the initial visit was great, the service went down hill from there. The main reason I changed my review though is because of the last visit. I brought my dog in for an emergency visit as I noticed her eye was very red. (she had a cataract already and we had surgery scheduled in about a month). They took my dog away and did "tests" and said she was fine. One month later when we actually went to do the surgery at Cornell hospital, she had glaucoma and they could no longer operate on the the eye. The doctor told me that given the size of the eye, the pressure had been building up for some time. I don't know how they could have missed that. Perhaps my dog did not have pressure build up when I brought her in but I could not in all good conscious recommend the hospital for eye care.

Tommy Scopac

First time at this hospital. Very very good staff. Professional. Great doctors. Explains everything about your pet. Highly recommended this hospital

Kitty Sayuri

I love this hosptial from the front desk to the doctors everyone is so helpful and know what they are doing they saved my cat chico twice and my dog too. The hospital has payment plans too which alot of vet places dont have ❤

Ben Normann

The staff is knowledgable and know how to handle injured animals. Service is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend the AMC. My dog had double knee (TPLO) surgery and is a challenge to deal with. The team handled her beautifully and she's recovering well.

Zhang Minran

They are not honest, what they need is only money, they are not really care of animal.

Myrissa Ramie

My cat went here for a highly specialized surgery and was under the care of Dr. McCue in the neurology department. I live 3.5 hours away and was worried about leaving him there and having the surgery done but they kept me at ease by giving me daily updates and taking great care of my cat. They went above and beyond what I expected. Even when I brought him home Dr. McCue made himself available to answer any post-operative questions I had. They took great care of my cat and are very compassionate. Thank you Dr. McCue, Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. Lebowitz, Dr. Levshin, Dr. West and Dr. Wilmarth and staff.

Sydney Marino

The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because the receptionist and nurse was nice. Came in with my cat who was very irritated and seemed to be in pain. Receptionist was very nice. Went upstairs, didnt know where to go. A nice nurse lead me to a room and told me someone would be with me in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later still waititng. Asked a nurse for someone. He was surprised no one came. Finally a doctor came, checked my cat out (pulse and heart beat) and told me my cat was stable and to go wait downstairs for 90 minutes for a doctor. I was trying to speak with the doctor about any ideas what's wrong with my cat and told me basically they're too busy and everyone's losing their head because of the construction? She also told me she was too scared to check out the rest of my cat? I dont know how you're doctor. I tried to talk to her but she interupted and told me to go wait downstairs. I decided to just leave and go to another place. Thank God I did. Waiting 30 minutes there all I heard was people crying about their pets because the doctors messed up or something. Guess this was a sign -- I booked it out of there. I would avoid.

Judy Taylor

We took our dog to some of the best vets in New York, including one of the world's most highly regarded specialists in his field and AMC as consistently taken the best care and showed the most concern about the dog. Emails are responded to promptly (including late in the evening) and questions answered honestly and quickly. After dealing with vets who either refuse to give email addresses or don't return calls (and some that don't want to deal with a sick pup), this place is a godsend.

Lulu Cucu

Do not take your pet here. Mine walked in on his own with us on Monday and died 2 days later in the ICU, after they put him on a ton of drugs and did tests. He was supposed to be resting.

Jenny Park

They killed my dog. They’re all about $$$ and everyone there is unqualified. If you love your pet don’t bring them here. I’ve read reviews before going there. Told my vet I didn’t want to go. He said “that’s where I bring my pets”. So I went. I will tell you that they are not after your money. They care about animals. Yes, treatments can be expensive and yes they might not work. It’s an emergency room. You’ll wait. Especially if it’s a non life threatening situation.

Eveline Gerck

THE GRAVEYARD - that place is a training place for 20 year old kids and our pets are their experiments. Find an experienced veterinarian with a practice to take care of your puppy!!! Stay away from that place if you want your pet to stay alive.

Wavii Ortiz

This place is horrible if you love your pet do not bring them to this hospital all they want to do is euthanize pets. Their a bunch of theives and all they want to do is charge an enormous amount of money instead of helping to keep your pet alive.

Lelia Toledo

I was there yesterday Jan 7,2018 and received horrible service my dog was very sick and the doctor informed me that it will cost 5,000 for my dog to have surgery . I explained to her I didn’t have that kind of money ..long story short she had the nerve to write on my discharge paper that I refused service .I never refused the service she refused to help me while my dog was almost in her death bed because I couldn’t pay the 5,000 .She told me to go to an aspca Monday morning or my dog will die. I took my dog this morning to the aspca and she had the surgery and didn’t cost me 5,000. This hospital and the vetenerian that supposedly took care of my dog yesterday had no compassion for my situation ..I paid over 400 for an ivy and meds .

H. E. B.

My cat is extremely aggressive and nasty with vets, and everyone I met at the hospital dealt with her very compassionately (highly unusual compared to the "regular" vets we've been to). The doctors took adequate time in discussing things with me. It took about 3 hours from triage to checkout on a Tuesday night (right after Christmas) for sedation, urine draw and X-rays - with lab tests & antibiotics it came to $670. $170 of that was the emergency fee. The prescription was filled on-site and the waiting area was clean with efficient and friendly receptionists. So far the antibiotics seem to be working for her; overall I am quite relieved to have a 24 hour vet nearby which I feel comfortable bringing my pet to for care.

Sally Perez

great veterinarian's office. Good for emergencies, I joined a friend of mine who had an emergency with their dog and they took great care of them.

Pablo Calamera

Busy hospital environment yet the staff were effecient, helpful and friendly.

Don Miller

We have ALWAYS had excellent service and care at the clinic. Our most recent visit was no exception. Thank You so much. Keep up the good work!

Matthew Ertle

Brought my sick bird here for treatment and when she suddenly died a few days later, they refused to perform a necropsy because we “aren’t established patients”. I guess we’ll just hope our other birds don’t get sick. Thanks AMC!

Karen Angel

Horrible institution with great medical care. When my dog needed a pacemaker and developed a blood clot in her leg, they managed to make the situation even more traumatic and stressful. They lied (from the top down: CEO Kathryn Coyne told me my healthy dog shouldn't have been at AMC as they were "triaging dogs for the flu in the lobby" and, when I asked why no one had warned me and requested that AMC pay for a prophylactic flu shot for the dog, denied having said that), twisted facts (I said very calmly to the head of customer relations, "This is in no way a threat, but your customer service is so awful that it would make a completely non-homicidal person feel like murdering half your staff," and Coyne told me that my threat had been reported to the police), and offered zero customer service or assistance, despite charging about $15,000 in fees. My dog's ER doc requested that I drive to the city (three hours) to try to get her to eat; then I was thrown in a remote exam room and had to fight to get any of the assistance I needed -- wee-wee pads, different types of food to try, a paper cup so I could get a drink of water, someone to come get the dog so I could take my other dog outside for a walk -- despite the fact that the dog was attached to an IV and in intense pain so I couldn't get up. Coyne's sarcastic response: "I'm sorry we couldn't get you things you wanted every 15 minutes." She also said that visits were supposed to be limited to 15 minutes, although obviously I wouldn't have driven three hours if I had been told in advance it would be a 15-minute visit, nor is it reasonable to expect that I would be able to get a critically sick animal to eat in 15 minutes. Next time I need emergency services, I will drive a little farther and go to Tufts' or Cornell's veterinary hospital, where they know how to treat humans as well as animals. As another customer in AMC's waiting room put it, "They're great with dogs and not so good with people." Make that atrocious with people, and I'd say spot-on. Addendum: My dog, who was dangerously ill and spent five days in the Animal Medical Center's ICU earlier this month, has made amazing strides, and I attribute that in part to the fact that I fought for her every step of the way. Yet it shouldn't have to be such a big fight to get help with simple, non-medical tasks, such as feeding the dog, which her ER doctor had requested I drive three hours to the hospital to do. It especially shouldn't have to be such a big fight when the bill is $15,000. Since Lily is doing so well, I have been having congratulatory, jubilant conversations with her cardiologist at Upstate Veterinary Specialties and her veterinarian at Lake Katrine Animal Hospital, but the cardiologist at AMC who installed Lily's pacemaker couldn't even be bothered to answer several questions I emailed to him after her surgery. This lack of responsiveness permeates every level at AMC. The only time an AMC official was truly responsive to me was when the CFO called me to collect payment over the phone via debit card so I could get my dog released from AMC and transferred by puppy ambulance to Upstate Veterinary Specialties. Once the bill was paid, the CFO, Paul Greene, promptly became impossible to reach with additional questions, such as whether he had forwarded an email detailing my issues with AMC to its board of trustees as I had requested since there is no email address for them listed on AMC's website. Addendum 2: AMC just sent me a letter saying they have terminated our client relationship -- ha, as if I would ever go there again. As well as being liars with no concept of customer service, these people are spiteful and vindictive. Funny how I had no customer-service issues with the other two animal hospitals my dog attended during her crisis, but yet, despite AMC's reputation for horrible customer service, the problem is me. The other institutions understand that when someone is under great emotional stress because their dog is suddenly gravely ill, you offer more assistance, not less.

G Blake

Horrible experience. Botched an unnecessary surgery i objected to and told me the course of action I proposed would kill my pet. Then they did exactly that after they hurt her with surgery she didn’t need. All to drive up the bill. Then they practically held her hostage to get the daily fees when she was recovered. They are evil and mercenary and incompetent.

Skyler Kistler

I can not believe the level of courtesy and care this facility extended to me and my family when our small dog was having an allergic reaction. It didn’t matter what the time was (it was midnight) the staff was alert, helpful, caring, and overall very knowledgeable. What a blessing it was to have a facility like this in the neighborhood when we were unable to administer our own benadryl for an allergic reaction. Our normal vet’s office had closed but thanks to AMC we were able to see our baby back to good health.

BRITTNEY TZAVIS

Way to expensive but they took in my pet really fast and stitched him up we were there for about 4.5 hours I appreciate the doctor for fixing this deep wound

Vika D

I went to the hospital by recommendation of my vet, with my 5 years old Akita. We wait 3 months for a appointment with dr. Robert Hart, for a TPLO surgery. That worth it! After TPLO, right in two weeks my dog had a second surgery, on his stomach. The surgery was done by Dr. Robert Hart and Dr. Renne McDougall. Doctors saved my dog life. I have no worlds to express my gratitude! Yes, that cost a lot of money, but we have a Trupanion insurance, that covered almost everything. I highly recommend this hospital!!!

Anastasia Garcia

After a particularly troublesome time I had at a HUMAN hospital, I was concerned that an animal hospital would have the same pitfalls — but I was wrong! The center was well-designed for housing animals: there is a ramp from the first floor to the second; there’s cat waiting room (which I love as my cat usually has a difficult time with all the dogs in the waiting room); and amenities provided to guests (free phone charging station, clean bathrooms, TVs in the waiting room, etc). My cat was seen as soon as we entered the office and I was very positively surprised at how genuinely nice every member of the staff was during all parts of the (usually difficult) experience. Although the tests and results took almost 5 hours and were quite pricey (x-rays, neurological test, blood work), our doctor was very communicative providing updates every time she came into the waiting room for other animals and consulting with me privately twice before final delivery. They provided all the medicines we needed at affordable prices with clear delivery notes. And after 36 hours our cat is back to her normal playful self! While waiting I read some literature on this Animal Hospital and was surprised to hear that it originally opened in 1910 and has continued serving the animals of NY for over a century. I certainly didn’t expect it but was pleasantly comforted knowing my pet was in good hands. I HIGHLY recommend this hospital to all pet-owners out there in case you ever need it!

Emergency experience: Friendly and helpful staff, Dr was great.

Now that I read the reviews about this awful place I realize how horrible these people are. Some time ago I brought in my 2 one year cats that were suffering from some type of virus infection, (I was told by an intern there). They were discharging fluids thru their noses and mouths. A very young intern took charge of the situation, and when I asked her if someone else was going to help her, her reply was very rude. One of the cats passed away the same night they were admitted to the hospital, the second one passed away 2 days later. The invoice was nearly $8,000, for tests and hospitalization for the 2 cats. When I asked why the cats died, their answer was that their lungs were getting full of fluids. that is all they said.

We were suspect of this place given some of the other reviews, but needed to go as our usual vet was closed (it was late Saturday night)... we were seen quickly by the welcome staff and then Liz (nurse)... both were absolutely great and were a massive help to our Frenchie. Thank you Liz!

The vets are knowledgeable but I wouldn't say the same for the staff behind the desk. Called and asked a specific question regarding my dog's possible prognosis since my dog and I were there late last night, this person who answered the phone couldn't answer my question nor helped me in any way. The brain stops at I don't know. Not one supervisor on duty. I understand it's late night but have at least a manager on duty.

I find it ridiculous that when I called to ask for advice on my two cats coexisting in the same residence I was told that my animals had to be a patient before any doctor could answer a question. They would rather me spend money just to get some advice . This is why some people get rid of their animals because you can’t get simple advice. Never ever would I recommend them they don’t care bout the animals they care bout the cash.

I am very disappointed in the medical center. I went there on Wednesday evening, the day before thanksgiving, on the opinion of my vet because my dog, an 11 year old pom, was collapsing. Upon entering I was immediately told of the $165. charge to see a doctor. Then they triage me and my pet and took her to an area to evaluate her condition. They returned and said she was having sinus bradycardia, and syncope. They then told me there was a charge of $400 to 600. for life support measures. I agreed. You have to sign every time you authorize a procedure. They took a chest xray, another $250. extra. Diagnosis was water around her heart. No tests or blood work was preformed. They then said to hold her in the cardiac area overnight under observation was $3500. I felt the situation was extreme and decided to euthanize the dog. My heart is broken. In hind sight Where was the testing and blood work. Nothing just talk about money. $865. later, I don't have my beloved dog, just a big bill with no explanation. I'm no doctor, but my doggy was always hungry, I think she was hypoglycemic, and this was her bodies reaction to low blood sugar. I fault the vet and the medical center for very bad diagnostic. Life is all about the money today, no good care.

If I would read these listed reviews before I wont take my dog to this place, my dog might not be in critical condition ,ready to die. When I took my dog to this place his stomach was swollen, he eat some unseasoned cooked beef and sweet potato the day before, at 2am he was screaming with his little stomach inflamed, I got desperate, took taxi and brought my little angel to this beast "veterinary" they took X-ray, they X-ray show an inflamed stomach, they said they have to do a surgery $8000.00 to see what is inside of his stomach, 7:45am surgery done, kirsch the only thing she can told me is that my dog still breathing, she'll call me back. At 2pm I wet back to see my little doggy with a bunch of tube, she told me I don't have the option to take him to another place because he will die if they remove him from those tube, now she said his stomach is twisted, she said she found a tumor that she can't remove. Now his in critical condition ready to die. She even said these condition affected my dog brain. They charged me $8000.00 dollars just to say they don't know if my dog going to recover, they don't think my dog could come back to my home, and if he stay another day with them they will charge more on top of the $8000.00 They only think he going to die. I left this animals place in tears. These women's with I don't know what type of college degree their business it's very simple: play with the loneliness, emotions and love people have with their animal. At 8:30pm "dr. Kirsch Meghan " called me to tell me his heart stop. Now I am searching at office of the professions: kirsch Meghan is not a veterinary surgeon. She don't have the license to assist in an animal surgery

I cannot in words describe my disappointment with the medical staff at the Animal Medical Center. After I fire in my home my pets developed severe asthma and I was desperately seeking help from the center. Spending money I did not afford they made my take numerous tests (most of them already done by a previous vet) and did not really accomplish anything except a slight change in medication. Once my visit was over (and I my wallet much lighter then before I got there) that was it. NO ONE has called me ONCE to see how my pet is doing, I have tried to get some sort of response via email, but nothing. They will be very please to take your money but please be careful, once they have it they will lose a severe amount of caring and staying in touch.

Lulu Lov

They are very helpful. And can help first time people with low income with pet fees up to $4000

This has been the worst experience in all 10 years with my dog. I brought her in for dental extractions. Dr. Riback was fake and arrogant from day one. I should have trusted my gut and went with someone else. He was so rough he basically butchered my 4 pound Yorkie. Her mouth is drooping preventing her from moving her tongue and she has been traumatized ever since. I tried emailing him and he never responded. I didn’t even get a follow up call after the surgery to see how she was doing. When I asked him he said they were understaffed and busy. After spending $3,000 I would expect a much higher level of care. Later found out he isn’t even board certified. How could someone who has been practicing so long not even pass his boards after multiple times. It’s a disgrace that someone like this is allowed to treat animals. I don’t know what went on there but she’s had this procedure before by a regular vet for 1/3 the cost and she was fine. Dr. Martel does seem more competent but I will never go back. AMC is more concerned with making money then the care of their animals. Go to Blue Pearl Dr. Gibeon is the best.

SCAM! I brought my dog here and I regret it. First impression, charged me twice for one ultrasound trying to scam an extra $500 from me. This is a business with good doctors. Not a hospital. It’s all about money. Non- profit?!? I can’t see anything but profit here. I suggest coming here if you want to spend all of your money. The doctors recommended I not take my dog home because she had yet to eat and recommended a feeding tube through her belly. The reason she wouldn't eat is because they gave her a very strong Narcotic, Buprenex. And 4 other drugs to fight the side effects. The side effects of this drug are the same symptoms we Brough her in for. And she was not in pain so no need for pain killer. I told them my dog hates it there and won’t eat until she comes home. They argued and made me sign a form. My dog is home and eating just fine. They wanted to cut a hole in her belly to feed her when she’s totally fine?!?!? This place is a total scam and VERY DANGEROUS. All they want is your money and will make your animal sick to get it! They charge you to move the animal from one room to the other. And they charge you to enter them in computer when moving the dogs. The charges add up so fast your head will spin. Systematically set up to rob you even if they have to make your pet sicker to do it. How is this legal?

We have two dogs and one very old cat and have been taking all three to Animal Medical Center for years. Super friendly and professional staff who really care about their patients and their owners. I wouldn't go anywhere else

Complete lack of concern for the welfare of our furbaby! Today was my first interaction with NY animal hospital and my last!. I have to say that I will never bring our furbabies to this place since upon calling them they were rude and hung up on me!! Our dog has DM which is a degenerative disease and needs a “help em up harness”. I contacted the harness company that directed me to this NY location so that I would not have to wait 24 hours for the item to be mailed since our dog’s current harness broke and I needed a replacement immediately. Of course I figured someone in NYC would sell this since it’s also available on amazon and other websites. Upon calling this NY animal hospital and getting transferred more than once the girl in the dispensary for products informed me that they have it but can’t sell it to me unless our dog is a patient there. I explained our dogs situation and the lady just kept repeating herself saying our dog needed an appt and to be a patient. I told them that’s horrible business practice since it can be purchased on amazon and she replied well you could TRY to buy it on amazon. And then i asked for a manager and she hung up on me!! I’m livid! Ummm yes I can buy it on amazon or online at Eddies Wheels of which is amazing and made our dogs custom wheelchair! But I won’t recv it until tomorrow ...which apparently the welfare of our dog is of zero concern to this place. Patient or not. This is an item that can be bought online. I only happen to need it today since it broke. I gladly suffer for the next 24 hours trying to lift our 90lb dog instead of contact this horrible place ever again. If this is the way they treat people on the phone I can only imagine the way they treat their voiceless patients and people in person. Do NOT go to this place. Awful customer service and due to their horrible attitude I almost went there in person after their rude incompetent person on the phone spoke to me like that. They clearly have ZERO concern for the welfare of animals and general care. I’m SO glad I found this out before having any other vet emergency. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Awful!!!!!

WARNING! DO NOT BRING YOUR BELOVED PET HERE! THEY WILL DIE! THEY DO NOT CARE FOR THE WELLBEING OF YOUR FURRY LOVED ONE! Especially if you don't have the Bill Gates money to afford all the over priced bills. I REPEAT! DO NOT BRING YOUR BELOVED FURRY LOVED ONE HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE, UNLESS YOU HAVE BILL GATES KIND OF MONEY!

Nicole Asimomitis

This review is for the dermatologist, Mark Macina. Mark was extremely disrespectful, arrogant, condescending and belittling to me. I felt like I was being yelled at by a rude boss, instead of someone I waited over 2 months to see and paid over $300. He kept boasting that even for rechecks, patients have to wait 10-12 weeks. Look elsewhere for a dermatologist, he's really not good enough for the wait.

rifa yesmen

Took my turtle to take emergency care. They did nothing, just charged 180 for doing nothing. Asked me about the symptoms then they repeated the samething and pretended that that's what they figured out.

Management at the AMC does not care about their employees nor your pet well being cared there. I have first hand knowledge. My Shitzu had cannel cough which is common if your purchase a dog from a pet shop due to puppies being with one another. AMC suggested I leave my Shitzu for consecutive over night stay for further evaluations only to charge a kings ransom. Cannel cough is treated with medication and is not serious as the vet techs stated to me. The Chairman uses the AMC for his self interest for his own interest. The AMC's Administration staff ie: President, CEO, Head of Animal Care only cares about how to charge you as much as possible during your pets stay especially for a medical facility that is NON PROFIT????????. Administration staff is a revolving door and currently no staff in place with any animal care experience or customer care knowledge. College Vet techs are who your pet will be seeing during the intake process and these interns are not experienced while they are still obtain their degree. Staff is a revolving door with no stability in this medical center with no clear direction to improve animal care. Staff is treated with treats of firing and mangers must meet number patient care targets in a month. The facility where you pet will be cared for is very outdated, dreary and does not does not meet animal health care regulations especially cleanliness. Bonni Violand formerly the Director of the AMC was a poor administrator and lacked the leadership skills to lead a animal care facility or staff. She put her own interest before the AMC's interested. Not surprising she's now gone. Lisa Williams (overweight lady with glasses & black hair) was hired because she knows the AMC's Chairman and has no clue as it relates to animal care and knows how to speak to department heads and has zero knowledge in facilities management for a animal care facility. Now the Director of patient care what a joke. Ask for her and you will agree with my review of her. There are other animal medical care facilities that can provide better care more cost efficient and provide clear understanding what medical treatment are needed are required without stringing you along to keep you pet for further observations for simple treatments and drain your money. I cannot recommend this animal care center and once you take your pet to the AMC you will agree with my review. Zero stars!!! If you care for your pet DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THE AMC!!!!!! After you go to the AMC I am sure you will agree with my review. For your pet(s) well being DO NOT GO TO THE AMC.

LaShawn Tillery

I went in the staff was nice but the service sucked they didnt even really look at my dog to even treat him suggested benadryl and my dog didnt get better only got worst had to go to another vet just to get him the proper service he needed for 210 dollar all they gave was a suggestion smh

Excellent vets but very expensive

From the initial diagnosis to the surgical correction, could not ask for better service. My pup is 8 months old. Thanks to AMC, he now has the chance at a long and happy life. I am beyond grateful.

Monica San Lucas

I just lost my dog. They could of helped her. But I didn't have the money they asked for to keep her overnight with Iv and do testing. I only had $400 on me but I also has a few extra I could put towards her being saved and yet it wasn't enough. They told me I needed to give them 50% of what her care would be which they estimated to be around $8000. So they wanted me to give them $4000. They didnt even have any other options. I asked them to please let me pay it off in monthly instalments with tear in my eyes and the doctor was like well its either you pay or we cannot help her. So you can imagine what happened...I almost got hit twice crossing the street on my way back home without my dog cause i felt really traumatized about how heartless they were. Thankfully my sister was there for me. I just wanted to let you all know that they might have the worlds best doctors at this place but if you don't have money money like that, meaning like 2 months rent type deposit dont go here. Heartless cruel place.

Ron Lebow

I was told by the receptionist that critical emergencies have priority. I explained that my pet has not eaten in 6 days and has refused water for 2 days and asked whether that would be an emergency. I kid you not, the doctor she asked in front of me laughed out loud. They must not have realized I was standing there and thought it was a call inquiry. Run from this place.

Very few organizations operate as effectively as The Animal Medical Center. While I'm certain no organization is perfect, my observation over many visits over three years: 1. The bill you receive will be heavily weighted towards fixed costs, such as examination fee or a specific procedure. The cost of what constitutes labor is a minor percentage of each bill. My assessment is this approach helps the org to fund top equipment and to keep it new and have it in abundance. I have been to local vets that have older x-ray equipment and you really can't tell much from looking at them. I expect keeping bills focused on concrete items simplifies billing and enables the doctors to focus on helping the animals, which is what you want. 2. The test and history software seems like it is due for a refresh. As good as it is, the interface seems like it was written in the 1990s. It didn't seem like it was always easy to get analytics of compare test results. None of this impaired the doctors who are able to read results and make assessments just fine. But the analytics are an opportunity for improvement. Also with the number of cases they see each year it seems they must be able to generate analytics, but I didn't see a lot of statistics or machine learning applied to the data the org collects. 3. The doctors and technical staff work well together. And are really decent and knowledgeable. I always received considered well informed advice and expert treatment for my dogs. 4. The upper management is a bit too proud to accept criticism, at least when I have offered it. A great organization should embrace criticism. I don't think there are many places where you will find talented professionals who work together as well as the staff at the Animal Medical Center. The firm is coasting on its effective people and process management, but could be much better if it embraced modern technology and started to really capture and analyze the vast amount of data that could be instrumented and captured and analyzed.

FILTHY DIRTY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!! If I could give no stars I would. My dog was suffering from a very high fever. When we first walk in just looking at the place being so run down and not looking clean. I was not feeling good about bringing my dog here. Then the tech approach us and took us to a room in the back which was also filthy dryed blood drops on the floor that look like it had been there for a long time and it was very dirty the tech was nice but with my dog it was just so disgusting and dirty. I then went to the front desk to sign in and the woman was not really nice she had no personality to work in a hospital dealing with sick animals no compassion at all. Now I had my boyfriend stay with my pet while filled out the information. When I was done she told me to have a seat I said I was told by the vet tech I could come back in the room when I was done. So I did then the lady from the front desk came in the room where we were and told us we could wait in the waiting area. She actually expected us to leave my sick dog who was unable to move without help alone in the room that was when I told my boyfriend I am not liking this place it is filthy and I don't want to stay here. It really was a waste of time it took us 45 minutes to get there. As we were leaving the vet was coming and said let go to the back room and I said no I would like my paper work we are going somewhere else she just gave us the paper work and I said the receptionist wss rude and the room wss dirty she said sorry and we left. I then traveled to Red bank veterinarian hospital in New Jersey AWESOME place I give them 5***** they were amazing!!! My dog is doing well thank GOD❤ AMC NEEDS TO START CLEANING UP THERE ACT A PLACE COULD LOOK OLD BUT DIRTY FILTHY AND NOT A CLEAN HOSPITAL IS SO UNPROFESSIONAL ESPECIALLY DEALING WITH SICK ANIMALS. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!

I brought my dog to Dr. Philip Fox. I would not recommend this doctor. He did not do the echocardiogram of my dog himself, it was done by an intern. Then when we met with Dr. Fox, he basically said my dog had heart disease and could die any moment. He prescribed meds at a really high dose. When I called the next day with questions, he never returned my call. I called again and he never bothered to call back, so rude. I went to a much better cardiologist somewhere else and was told my dog was in early heart disease and probably had years to live. Also, the medicine which Dr. Fox prescribed was not only unnecessary for my dog but dangerous at that high of a dose. I'm so glad I never gave my dog the medicine. If you need a cardiologist for your dog, stay away from Dr Philip Fox, who apparently prescribes dangerous meds for any dog with a heart murmur.

Pam Brace

They do not return calls when they say they will. Ever!

Hands down the best care available. Access to dentists, neurologists, and every specialty that exists all under one roof. MRI machines and the latest technology. Open 24/7 and an absolute godsend in an emergency. The doctors are compassionate and easily accessible just like your local vet. They keep in regular contact with you when your pet is admitted to the hospital to update you on your pets condition. They follow up with you after your pet is released. You do not have to chase them down. We recently had to put a pet to sleep, and they went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed emotionally, answering 1000 questions, allowing as much time as you need to say goodbye to your pet in private. They'll do pretty much whatever you want to help you cope with difficult situations. You can expect to pay more here than you would at your local vet, but personally I don't mind, knowing that I am getting the best possible care and I don't need to wonder if I need to get a second opinion, or run all over town with a sick pet to get the care we need. I don't mind paying a little more to support this wonderful hospital.

my cat's back legs became paralyzed and he was in a lot of pain so I rushed him to the animal medical center at 10pm on a Monday night. there was no wait and the staffers were calm, respectful, and professional with me. they ended my little best friend's suffering with the utmost compassion for him and empathy for me. I cannot speak more highly of the staff I encountered here - young, highly competent, compassionate professionals who added grace and dignity to one of the hardest, most difficult moments of my life. my only complaint here - the only sour note - is that the parking attendant here extorted a awful lot of money from me. in cash. I paid it because at the time I was in a stressed panic state. this shark should not be allowed to work here.

Richard Messenger

The staff here had amazing amounts of knowledge and integrity. A lot of vets and animal hospitals will perform unnecessary procedures to pump up the bill. We brought our dog in and was told he'd probably need surgery. He got a chest x ray to prepare for an MRI. They watched him for 24 hours and determined he didn't need the MRI or surgery. They refunded the cost of the chest x ray because the MRI was deemed unnecessary as they watched him. I'm sure most animal hospitals would have just done the mri because they could and it's easy money.

Justin Abualjadail

Amazing experience. I took my dog in to the emergency room when she had her tail crushed by my apartment building's front door. The staff and docs were kind and compassionate. They took the time to explain why they would do what they did, and took the time to discuss alternatives and options. Price was quite fair which says a lot considering it was an emergency visit and in Manhattan. We opted for a payment plan too.

4/13: Have updated this to 4 stars because Allison at AMC called me back and shared the ways they are changing their communications to avoid this problem in the future. Shame it happened in the first place but great to know they are responsive and want to make the process smoother for other applicants. Unprofessional staff and services. I foster a cat and applied for their AMC to the Rescue funds for surgery that had been recommended. The application confirmation said we would hear within 48 hours. After four days with no communication, I called to ask when we would hear. I was told Lisa Williams would call me back. I heard nothing and called her every day for the next four days - each time the nice operators put me on hold and then told me Lisa wasn't in, even though they had told me the previous day she would be. She was obviously screening the calls when I was only trying to get a timeline on when we would hear. I appreciate that AMC has funds available for rescues, but asking for money should not preclude professionalism. I hope they don't treat their low income clients with this level of discourtesy.

The Animal Medical Center has provided the most outstanding care that I have ever seen! The doctors called me, 3 times a day day or night to update the progress and surgery report for my dog. I felt like life is precious for all the doctors at the center, each life, let it be dog's or human's. They were compassionate, knowledgeable, explaining everything to me in details, the prognosis and the chances of my dog's recovery. They were honest and told me my dog has only 70% of recovery after surgery. In no way I felt pressured into any decisions, but rather supported with whatever decision I would make. They offered all resources for us, when we could not have done that on our own. My younger brother, my family and I are forever grateful for saving life of our dog Monica. When we came in the blizzard night to the emergency room, with our precious family member Monica, a 9 year old Chiweenie we were taken in a few minutes into the cabinet, the nurses assisted her(Monica) while I was filling our documents. The compassion, understanding have touched my heart, of the nurses, interns, doctors, staff and all medical personal. May God bless the work you are doing! I agree with the statement on your wall, we cannot change the world, but we can change the world for one animal and the life of the owner.
