Love this place...always get an appointment even last minute for urgent visits. Always Friendly and knowledgeable Drs and staff...highly reccomend
Very pleasant and caring staff appointments run on time all questions are explained so you can understand glad my baby Dillon goes there
Took our new kitten here for a check up and received the best service, I have ever had at any veterinary office and now taking my two older cats here
They have been taking care of both my dogs for years now, and could not be happier!
There are no words to describe my experience with Dr. McNamara and his team but I will certainly try; they are angels walking on earth, compassionate, transparent, clear communicators, genuine, incredible, extraordinary professionals. He and his team have shown exemplary medical practice and bedside manor. They have treated me and my family with the most kind, honest and gentle approach in one of the hardest times we've had to face- the unexpected loss of our pet. We are eternally grateful and will continue to bring our other two dogs to them.
Friendly and helpful

If you love your pets and consider them family, this is the place for them. From the moment you walk in, the staff is excellent. They are very friendly and great with the pets. I recommend this veterinary medical group 100%. They are awesome!
Rude and unhelpful. I was visiting family in the area for Thanksgiving when my 2 year old Chihuahua became ill. After two days of use trying to use pumpkin and a bland diet to curb her diarrhea, she was no longer eating or getting out of her crate. I called this vet as I worked there many years ago when I was in high school and Dr. Whitefield owned the practice. The receptionist was very unsympathetic, and they wouldn't see us because they were 'booked'. She also wasn't able to recommend another vet in the area. For an animal practice that claims that they have emergency services to turn away a sick dog was very shocking to me. Additionally, the receptionist was completely uncaring. I was so disappointed that this place that I held in such high regard was so completely rude and unhelpful.
Great service. Caring staff. Lots of specialists.

The best vets and staff.
It feels like family here.
Took good care of my kitty!
Dr Paul McNamara did surgery on my puppy. Although the surgery itself went fine, everything else was highly upsetting. He (and his staff who take direction from him) were irritated and impatient with my questions. They kept saying "these questions were already covered in the consult". I don't think it's unreasonable for an owner to ask the same question a few times. I am not a vet and the information was new to me and fairly upsetting. I expect to be treated respectfully and patiently even if it takes a few times for me to fully understand the facts. Further, I got no guidance about post operative rehabilitation or long term care. I was told what to do for the following 4 weeks and that was it. I was not educated so I could make good decisions - I was ordered to follow instructions without any understanding. I found that difficult. I found this doctor to be nasty and even threatening. And even though I had to spend more money to do it, I finally I decided to take my puppy to a different vet who could help me better understand what lay ahead for us. I went to Hurley Animal Hospital and saw Dr. Gunzberg who is also an orthopedic surgeon. I was handled kindly, patiently, and with as much or more expertise. I felt like he cared about my dog and also about me. And I got lots of guidance about long term prospects and care. He and his staff were cheerful and helpful. I write this review to help others avoid what happened to me. When your dog needs/has surgery you are in a highly vulnerable and confused state. You need professionals who are happy to answer your questions no matter how many times they are asked. Go to a doctor who will patiently guide you through the process and educate you so you can make the best decisions for your animal. I can tell you for certain that Dr. Paul McNamara is not that doctor. He is a bully - not a caregiver.
They are a shell of their former selves. It is truly sad how the level of care and service has fallen.
This place is hands down, the most beautiful Vet Hospital that I have ever been in. The staff was very friendly and courteous. They all smile and are very inviting.
The staff and vets at the office offer a superb service to pet owners. I noticed my 4 year old Kitty was having some issues in the litter box and called them. Normally this is a very busy practice and you schedule your appointments in advance. But today, they took me in TWENTY MINUTES! I wrangled Bernie in the carrier and off we went. Then as soon as I got into the door they took us in. You seriously cannot ask for better service than that as I know they were definitely squeezing us in. I appreciate the dedicated service that this office provides year in and year out. I've seen most Doctors and Techs there throughout the years and they are always caring, professional and courteous. The office staff is always welcoming and professional when we come in as well. Thank you Hudson Highlands for continuing to provide exceptional service to my fur babies. I see a handful of negative reviews on here and I urge people looking for a new vet office to please take them with a grain of salt. I have never had a bad experience here. Maybe some not so great news, but that's not the practices fault.

I have been going to Hudson Highlands since 1987 when I first moved to Dutchess County. The Staff and Doctors have seen me through 30 years of smiles and tears. My last visit was with my 12 yr 9 mo old chocolate lab, Tyler. Dr. Kalba and Dana got me through the worst day of my life. The compassion and care they showed to him I will never forget. I have three more dogs and cats and they have shown all our babies so much quality care. I cannot praise them enough nor thank them enough.
Got appointments immediately. Didn't prescribe unnecessary medication or procedures. Medical staff readily available by telephone.
After ladt night ...Dr First ..the worst vet i have EVER experienced ...they used to have good Drs ..but the good ones leave i asked that this Dr First never touch my baby but the staff failed to put it in my chart my dog was dehydrated and he could not hydrated him ..it was too difficult he could not answer any of my questions...he could not even cut my dogs nails ..to much trouble ...my dog is very mellow doesn't even bark ..he was not helpful or knowledgeable about my animal did Nothing to help i have spent 1000s of dollars at this vet now i think they are incompetent and un educated...i am requesting my babys records...and going to a caring n compassionate vet ...
Clean facility, compassionate, caring staff, professional knowledgeable doctors and technicians.
We called for an appointment for our older dog who was having urinary trouble and were able to bring her right in. We had never been there before. Dr. Kim examined Lucy and prescribed treatment. Lucy was feeling better by nightfall, as were we. Many thanks to Dr. Kim, Kimber and Emma for their considerate care and welcoming smiles.
Beautiful building and amazingly kind and helpful staff. Our two cats are relatively healthy(a little overweight) and Dr. Whitefield informed us and let us know what we needed to do. Will be coming here for as long as we can!
Clean Facility. Helpful staff and great nurses/technicians. They have an adoption section for kittens/cats that visitors are welcome to see.
Dr. Christensen is excellent. . Best Vet. Prices are very high..
Very clean and professional.
They care for my fur babies as their own. Dr McNamara is a Godly Surgeon
Once again they have come to my baby gizmo rescue. Dr. Christensen is so careing to all his patients and the assistant are always helpful and careing as well. I am so glad my sister introduced me to this practice they are the best from the time you enter to the time you leave. THANKS AGAIN
Rushed one of our dogs in there this past weekend due to poison consumption.
My mother's dog became very ill and we took him there for an emergency visit. He had a very slim chance and luckily, after 10 days of being at the clinic, he pulled through and is getting better. I believe the expertise, care and attention that was provided to Teddy was the best I've seen in a veterinary clinic, and the reason he survived this. I have been to vet clinics with my late beloved dog for 17 years, and I was truly impressed by the genuine love and attention, constant updates from the doctor, the courtesy and professionalism of all of the staff on the phone, in person, etc at this veterinary facility. Thank you Dr. Whitefield, Dr. Kim, and all of the staff for the great care you provided Teddy.
Very nice
I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff especially Dr Ball and her nurse. We bought our dog in on an emergency basis. She unfortunately passed away a few days later. Dr Ball and her nurse kept in touch with us and answered all our questions. They are the most wonderful and compassionate people we’ve ever met. We will never bring our dog anywhere else. Thank you Hudson Highlands.
my dog needed emergency surgery and it was done he is well and back to normal. the staff is wonderful. I would recommend to everyone. love this vet.
Highly recommend. Staff is superb and helped out our Corgi when others could not.
Modern facility with nice staff. Good place to bring pets
Friendly, courteous, caring staff. They treat your pet as if it were their own.
Was referred to Hudson after my dog needed to see an orthopedic!! Before we even met the staff, I was impressed in how quickly I could get scheduled. Then when I came, after having to drive an hour, the staff was nice and accommodating to our schedule and time. Dr McNamara.. was awesome. The first thing he did was come in a get down to Ozzie's level. He helped answer all my questions and concerns. They were even able to get Ozzie in for xrays on the next day. Very professional and very caring!!! I wish I lived closer

Caring care
Love Dr. Whitefield! She is the best!

Great vet, I like them
I have been going to Hudson Highlands Vet for around 2 years now as I've had my adopted cats for about 8 years. They have been the best vet practice I have ever gone to, hands down. My cat, Smee is a Persion that had a mast cell tumor and Dr. McNamara did a spectacular job removing the inch-diameter tumor as well as taking care of Smee until he was recovered enough to come home to me. The staff is kind, compassionate, caring, and thoughtful. Smee has been on chemo over the last year and has had several bouts of sickness from a weakened immune system and they could not be more kind to him or me. They understand that pets are part of our families. Dr. Christiansen and Dr. Furst have worked together to ensure that all FOUR of our cats (we just adopted 2 kittens from Hudson Highlands) are well-cared for, healthy, and happy! I could not have a higher recommendation for this group of Animal-lovers!
Beautiful building and amazingly kind and helpful staff. Our two cats are relatively healthy(a little overweight) and Dr. Whitefield informed us and let us know what we needed to do. Will be coming here for as long as we can!
Great service, qualified, professional Vets, and caring staff!
Amazing diagnosticians , caring doctors!
Doctor there must be some type of god! Myself or my pup was not deemed worthy of being seen! We had canceled an appt a few weeks earlier due to a snow storm and had an hour drive, mind you left plenty of time for our spot to be filled, rescheduled without a problem. So when we dove down for our second appt. the receptionist couldn’t find our slot in the computer so she went to talk to the docs and then came to tell us because we had canceled prior the doctor needed to approve a second appt which we weren’t told when the appt was scheduled! He couldn’t even give us 5 minutes of his time to tell us himself and made her do the dirty work. He may be a good vet but I’ll never find out because I won’t be going back!!
My dog had a TPLO surgery last year and although it took forever to heal and had to have numerous return trips to the vet because of staples pulling, wounds opening up etc.... my experience with them was OK- The staff there is friendly and helpful. HOWEVER I tried to schedule my dog to get some annual shots done and have them take a look at the leg because its STILL NOT FULLY HEALED but they will not see my dog in that capacity. BEWARE after spending several thousand dollars on the surgery they will not let you bring your other dogs there because of some ridiculous "hospital policy" of not seeing dogs for 1 year. I am extremely disappointed. Its too bad I will be finding 2 new vets now!
Fast, professional staff. Always compassionate and accommodating
I have taken my pets( dogs and cats ) to Hudson Highlands for almost 25 years. They are professional, knowledgeable, caring and friendly. They are pretty much an extension of my friends & family...Great people who know their job and do it well.
took amazing care of my Aussie
Facility is nice and clean, staff is friendly and helpful, doctors are friendly and knowledgeable. The only downfall is, it is pretty far from where I live. But I will travel to have the best for my pupper.
Love Dr. Furst! He is very knowledgeable in caring for small animals.
Very professional and courteous
Great friendly staff. They really care about the animals they treat. Call them if you are looking to adopt one of their playful rescue animals.
Great doctors and staff
My five month old French Bulldog was diagnosed by my regular vet with a heart murmur and it was recommended that a board certified cardiologist perform an echocardiogram. Dr. Petrie examined the puppy and explained that the heart murmur is not serious and that we should have our dog for many years and we should "just enjoy him and not worry about his condition". Dr. Petrie is an incredibly skilled vet with having worked for AMC in New York City. He is also extremely personable and you can't help but feel very confident after talking with him. I highly recommend this fantastic hospital. The staff are also very friendly.
Loving,caring Dr's
We have a bunny and we have really struggled to find good vets. We recently moved to the Hudson Valley and are SO glad to have found Dr. Furst at Hudson Highlands! He really knows bunnies, was informative, caring, and very skilled with the care of our pet. Our black Rex/lionhead mix had a hairball blockage and I am CONVINCED that the best case scenario elsewhere would have been surgery. With Dr. Furst's expert care, our bunny passed the blockage on his own! He also coached us through intensive at-home treatment so that we could keep our pet home as much as possible during the ordeal. And he charged us the bare minimum - discounting his own fee for a follow-up!! He has also continued to check in with us about recovery. We are so grateful to have found this EXCELLENT vet!
Cooper, my mostly Saint Bernard Rescue dog and I went to Hudson Highlands for surgery on his torn ACL, broken knee. When I called to make the appointment, I expressed my wish to be with him until he fell asleep for the operation. this was not the norm but they understood and allowed this small concession to dog motherhood. I love that the staff greets you as though you were part of their own lives and that the appointments were ON TIME! Everyone cared about my dog and within seconds the Vet Tech had passed the "I Love You " test with Cooper. If I had been impressed with the fabulous staff, I was about to be blown away by Dr. Paul McNamara who walked in to greet us. Here, too, the first one to be greeted and and adored was Cooper. I patiently waited my turn as I was already half in love with him just because of his attitude towards Cooper. Dr. Paul is impressive to say the least. It doesn't hurt that he is handsome, but he took time to explain everything to me without treating me like an idiot because I was not familiar with vet terminology. I was shown the entire facility that ranks right up there with the best people hospitals! The entire experience was so positive, from the wonderful sisterhood at the front desk to the after care of Cooper, that it resonated with my own conviction of what health care should be. It would be a perfect template for every health provider. For Cooper and I, and for many other pet owners, we are given the gift of profound kindness and respect. It doesn't get better than that.
There ok. They help my doggies when i needed them
Fast, professional staff. Always compassionate and accommodating
Very friendly environment and staff...
Hudson Highlands Veterinary Medical Group is professional and compassionate. I highly recommend them. Over the past 8 years, my two lab-mix rescue dogs each tore their cranial cruciate ligament (CCL, similar to the ACL in humans), first on one rear leg, then on the other. This is a difficult injury for the dog and for the family. To heal well requires surgery and at least eight weeks of significant care and restrictions. The bright spot in this sad saga is that both dogs recovered completely both times and were able to return to their normal dog activities. I attribute this directly to Dr. Paul McNamara and his caring, capable staff at Hudson Highlands Veterinary Medical Group. The office is efficient, organized and well run. While I appreciate this, more important to me is the staff. Beginning with Dr. McNamara (Uncle Paul to his patients) my dogs and I were treated by knowledgeable, skilled and kind people. Two examples that stood out for me had to do with communication. I was able to call the office 24/7 and get a person who checked on my dog and let me know how he was doing post-surgery. The morning after the surgery I received a photo of my dog with a personal update from Dr. McNamara. I feel very fortunately to have such a specialized, first rate facility in the Hudson Valley.

Great care, compassion 24 hour care.
I’ve been going to Hudson Highlands for over 25 + years . They are the best !!!! From the front desk to all of the Vets To all of the technicians. Thank you for everything. Fondly , Steph & tony
We have been clients with Hudson Highlands Veterinary Hospital for 20 years. This is an outstanding Veterinary Hospital. The Veterinarians and Staff always provide excellent customer service, are knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. They also provide 24 hour emergency services for clients, unlike other Veterinary practices in the area.
What a horrible experience. They definitely treat their regular customers better and they make you feel it. I’ve never actually been to a vet office where the people weren’t excited about seeing animals. Super cold people and super expensive. I can’t believe the insane prices.
I traveled over an hour and a half to have an appointment with Dr. McNamara at Hudson Highlands. It was the best experience I have ever had at a veterinary clinic and I have had dogs and cats for years. The staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. The clinic is beautiful and presents a very calming environment for the pets. Dr. McNamara was great with my dog, who is very fearful of men. He was very kind. During the consultation and examination, he explained the options I could take in making the dog more comfortable, At no time did I feel he was ever encouraging me into treatments that would be more beneficial for the clinics bottom line than my dogs health. I Highly recommend Hudson Highlands Veterinary Group, especially if you want a consultation on orthopedic issues like I did. You will not be disappointed.
Pleasant staff. Good care.
A wonderful place altogether thed staff is friendly Courteous pleasant and professions
Very well managed vet practice. Our Westie has been going there since puppyhood and they have taken good care of us the last 12 years. Professional, courteous, prompt and they care about your dog. We have interacted with various doctors, vet techs and admins and they are the best. I highly recommend them.
A good office to go to for a emergency vet or if your pet needs a specialist.
Great service excellent staff
These people understand that they are not "pets". They're four legged family members.
Ive had 2 dogs who have needed TPLO Surgery. Dr. Macnamara and his staff are FABULOUS! Couldnt ask for a more professional, skilled and caring group!
I have a cat that I rescued as a feral kitten. She is sweet and loving at home, but very aggressive with anyone else. Hudson Highlands takes the time to help her feel a little safer when being examined. Great place.
