I have a golden doodle (Bubbles) that needs monthly grooming. I have jumped all over Birmingham trying to find the right cut for my doodle. Well the search is over! Tiffany at Standifers is Fantastic! Most groomers have to shave my dog but Tiffany tries to avoid that and will work with the dog's fur. She is also very gentle and kind. I highly recommend her!

I took my dogs in for a nail trim this morning, which usually is a terrible and terrifying experience for my Beagle—he literally sounds like someone is killing him every time he’s ever had his nails trimmed, and it’s always an ordeal. Today, however, Rebecca made the experience SO MUCH BETTER. For once, he didn’t scream or cry, and I was honestly shocked at how easy it went. Thanks Rebecca!

I like Standifer’s. I have been going there many years and my parents took our old dogs there too. Groomers are great. Service is great. They have some new faces but Shanna is still there and she has always been very nice and helpful to my family and our needs throughout the years. The staff was welcoming and professional and expedited our getting to see Dr Cooley, who did a thorough exam to timely diagnose and treat. The vet tech Muriel was excellent, putting fresh water down for our nervously panting pet and calmly holding her as she was examined. I thought everything was done thoughtfully and with care. My questions were addressed and a follow-up visit easily scheduled. The front desk and I both forgot the cone collar but Muriel offered to deliver it on her lunch break, which I appreciated but declined as it wasn’t that far for me to drive. Our pet’s symptoms were significantly improved by that evening. I would definitely recommend you bring your pet to Standifer’s clinic.

My dog, half Pomeranian and half Maltese, was expertly groomed by Tiffany. Should took special care to groom his feet closely because my dog has a habit of chewing on her feet. And she was so happy when I picked her up! Normally when she’s gone to a new groomer she leaves panicked and shaking. She will only go to Tiffany now!

Tiffaney has groomed my puppy twice now she is absolutely amazing. She takes such time and is so kind to him as well as their front office staff. The first time I went to pick my baby up from his first big boy haircut the Vet tech at the front desk had my then 60lb Bernedoodle on her lap "because he wanted attention". We tried an in-home groomer a couple weeks ago and the experience was horrendous. I will never take my huge little guy anywhere else

I have been a loyal customer of Standifer Animal Clinic for years. During that time, I have had several bad expereinces with them, but have tried to give them the benfit of the doubt. After yet another terrible experience here, we will no longer be using this clinic and feel that others should be warned before they choose to use this clinic as well. First, let me say that all of my experiences with Dr. Standifer have been wonderful, which is largely why we kept coming for so long. However, the clinic is not what it once was, and is in my opinion no longer safe for animals nor is it operating in their best interest. The office manager there is truly terrible. She is rude, unorganized, and has no regard for the health and safety of the pets there. I at one time referred many friends to Standifers, but after hearing many MANY of them come back with stories of the rude office manager, I stopped. Though I could go on for days, here are the highlights: We brought our kitten to the clinic and spoke with her to set up a procedure. She scheduled the appointment and assured us that it was all taken care of. She also did the intake of our pet on arrival the morning of. We were shocked when we returned to pick up our pet only to find that the WRONG SURGICAL PROCEDURE had been preformed on our sweet baby. The manager took no responsibility, was arguementative, extremely agressive, and even though she was the one who both scheduled and did the intake on the animal preoperatively, claimed to have no knowledge of the intended procedure. Dr. Standifer and his wife were extremely apologetic and upset over the situation and we did our best to put this behind us and continue our ongoing relationship with the clinic there. Until this week...when we had our "last straw." My sweet dog, our oldest, a regular at Standifers for routine grooming, was attacked by a wild animal. He was bloodied and wounded and we called Standifers, during regular business hours I might add, to explain what happened and see if they could see us right away. They told us to come on in and we rushed him to clinic. On arrival (it is no more than 20 minutes away), we were told that the vet had just gone to lunch and that we could come back in an hour. A clinic that turns away a wounded bloodied animal- not to mention one that they were expecting, that they themselves instructed to come in- should NOT be trusted with the lives and well-being of any furry members of your family. The woman working the desk actually LAUGHED at me and said we shouldn't be surprised, as everyone closes for lunch between 12-2. Let me remind you, this is a WALK-IN ONLY clinic, which claims to provide emergency services to their animals. They did not offer (with the vet tech sitting talking on their cell phone- or the many groomers and other axillary staff available) to take the animal back and start cleaning his wounds or shaving the areas to get them ready for when the vet returned. They did not offer ANY assistance or show any interest or compassion for our poor wounded, bleeding poodle, who they have seen every month for years. They turned him away- telling us to come back in an hour. They laughed. They did not offer any assistance or recommendations of where to go, what to do. Needless to say, we got our records and left and will not be returning. We went to the animal clinic two blocks down, where the staff recognized the urgency of the situation and my little guy was thankfully seen and taken care of right away. Please do not take your animals to this place. You can see from the other reviews that our experience was not unique. They have performed unecessary, unauthorized procedures on other animals as well. I could overlook an ernest mistake, even the rude office manager, or the clinic never opening when it is supposed to, but I can not overlook them neglecting animals and showing a complete lack of respect for their lives and well-being and you should not either.

After almost 60 years of using Standifer's Animal Clinic, I must go from praising them to strongly recommending you stay away from them. They cost me one dog and they have had my dogs records mixed up or someone elses dog in my records file since they were sold. Poor customer service. Don't risk your pet's lives. Find another vet. Very sad that this place has tanked since they were sold, but I will not risk my dogs lives by continuing to go here.

Then a person answered my phone and took my information, saying that they would call me back (also told me that if they didn't, I should call them again... what?). I waited until 10 AM and just decided to call Homewood Animal Clinic. Instant answer, instant schedule. Going there in 30 minutes.

On Friday October 11th I was visiting Real and Rosemary with my oldest daughter. I parked in Standifer's Animal Clinic parking lot not really thinking anything of it and not realizing there was a sign that says no parking. I was gone probably about an hour when I went back to my vehicle I was approached by a young girl with blue and purple hair and she was yelling at me for parking there and accusing me of hitting her red Jeep. I explained to her nicely that I did not hit her vehicle when I got out of my vehicle but she kept yelling at me telling me she knows I did and started pointing at her vehicle. She was very aggressive even after I told her I was sorry if I did accidentally Dinger her door. I would never come to this Clinic or recommend them to anyone if they have people like her working there. I thought it was very unprofessional for her to do that. I was crying the whole way home. .

Our miniature Schnauzer has been going to Standifer's for all of her eight years. During that time we have had one or two incidents where we weren't completely happy, but the other 100 times have been fantastic. Our dog did have some eye issues after a bath ONE time however, the staff was very apologetic and it has never happened again. She did get nicked once or twice during grooming as well, but nothing serious. The best calculations I can do after going twice a month for 8 years is the groomers do a fantastic job 99.5% of the time. Not too bad, I once got food poisoning at a Frank Stitt restaurant, but I still look forward to going to Bottega, Highlands, and Chez Fon Fon. Point being, even the best have off days. As far as the vets go, they have saved our sanity and our dog on at least three occasions. After seeing an emergency vet who told us our dog had a massive tumor and was going to die in weeks ($900 bill), Dr. Hicks was kind enough to (correctly) inform us that the tumor was actually just her spleen and a restricted diet would get her back to normal in no time. Another time our dog was in severe pain and Dr, Standifer realized that it was most likely a ruptured disc after a brief examination. He referred me to specialist and didn't even charge for the office visit. It was a ruptured disc and she recovered without surgery. The staff know our dog and us by name. If you are looking for a great place to take your dog (or cat if you're one of those types), I don't think you could do better than Standifer's.

I will never come here again. I took a foster dog in there to get ONE shot and a health certificate. And I told them what she needed and 2 hours later they called me asking me what she needed (even though one of the girls wrote it down)..A few hours later I called to see when I can pick her up. I was put on hold 3 times till I got an answer. Then when i went to pick her up i waited 45 MINUTES to get her because they could not get their crap together. And didn't even get a "Have a nice day" or "sorry for the wait" NOTHING! Horrible customer service!

I brought my dog to be boarded here last year while I was on vacation, I did NOT request he be bathed or have his nails clipped and they did both "on the house". ALL of his toes were bleeding profusely from the horrible clip job the vet tech did. I was LIVID, why on Earth would you clip a dog's nails that short knowing it would make them all bleed? I would never trust these people with my dog ever again.

I don't know why this place has any negative reviews. The staff at this place is amazing and kind and warm. Stephanie would have to be one of the best groomers that I've ever used throughout the years. She is always so sweet and she always managed to fit my dogs in even after I forget to make appointments. I definitely would not use anybody else I would follow her Wherever She Goes. Shana also is so kind and always managed ask me how my day is going and little things like that means a lot. I have recommended this place too many of my friends and coworkers. I just want to thank the staff at Standifer's for always going over Beyond to make sure my dogs are treated like family.

I have used Standifers Animal Clinic for about 10years. A dog and 3 cats over the years. Doctor Standifer has been very caring and knowledgeable. The staff also been very helpful and seams to genuinely care. I had a fluid around the heart with my cat, who couldn't breathe. One of the Vet techs Scott Nebbitt met me at the door and rushed my cat back and he and the Doctor removed the fluid, they did the three different times. Vet Tech Scott has helped many times and gave very helpful advice on my cats and knows there names. I always appreciate when he is there to assist the Doctor.

Never again! We boarded our dog for a week. We asked that he be given a bath and have nails clipped by the time we picked him up and neither had been done. Instead, we got our dog 10 pounds lighter than when we dropped him off and when we picked him up at 11:30am he went and peed a river. He obviously hadn't even been taken out yet and it was almost noon. That's not the worst part. He was covered in his own feces and urine. He has white fur on his chest and it was stained yellow with feces on his paws. We went to take pictures of this and found scratches all over his belly. He was nervous, if we went to pet him he would pull away as if we were going to strike him. He has never acted this way before. We are horrified and feel robbed that we payed money to have our family member abused. We are calling the Humane Society again on Monday. If you give half a crap about your pet you will stay away from this place. Either now or when they do it to your pet.

I was the ONLY person in a patient room and waited 45 minutes without seeing a Dr. I finally gave up and left but did receive a call from the Dr. as I was driving home. Our miniature Schnauzer has been going to Standifer's for all of her eight years. During that time we have had one or two incidents where we weren't completely happy, but the other 100 times have been fantastic. Our dog did have some eye issues after a bath ONE time however, the staff was very apologetic and it has never happened again. She did get nicked once or twice during grooming as well, but nothing serious. The best calculations I can do after going twice a month for 8 years is the groomers do a fantastic job 99.5% of the time. Not too bad, I once got food poisoning at a Frank Stitt restaurant, but I still look forward to going to Bottega, Highlands, and Chez Fon Fon. Point being, even the best have off days. As far as the vets go, they have saved our sanity and our dog on at least three occasions. After seeing an emergency vet who told us our dog had a massive tumor and was going to die in weeks ($900 bill), Dr. Hicks was kind enough to (correctly) inform us that the tumor was actually just her spleen and a restricted diet would get her back to normal in no time. Another time our dog was in severe pain and Dr, Standifer realized that it was most likely a ruptured disc after a brief examination. He referred me to specialist and didn't even charge for the office visit. It was a ruptured disc and she recovered without surgery. The staff know our dog and us by name. If you are looking for a great place to take your dog (or cat if you're one of those types), I don't think you could do better than Standifer's.

I will never come here again. I took a foster dog in there to get ONE shot and a health certificate. And I told them what she needed and 2 hours later they called me asking me what she needed (even though one of the girls wrote it down)..A few hours later I called to see when I can pick her up. I was put on hold 3 times till I got an answer. Then when i went to pick her up i waited 45 MINUTES to get her because they could not get their crap together. And didn't even get a "Have a nice day" or "sorry for the wait" NOTHING! Horrible customer service!

I brought my dog to be boarded here last year while I was on vacation, I did NOT request he be bathed or have his nails clipped and they did both "on the house". ALL of his toes were bleeding profusely from the horrible clip job the vet tech did. I was LIVID, why on Earth would you clip a dog's nails that short knowing it would make them all bleed? I would never trust these people with my dog ever again.

The only reason I brought my kitten here and not my regular vet, the excellent Ken Harris at Southside Animal Hospital, is because I got a reduced spay certificate that was only offered at certain vet clinics in the area, this being the closest. First off, they were late opening. From reading the other reviews, this is business as usual. The examining room where I was taken was filthy -- fur on the floor and an unclean examining table. A tall post-middle age balding man walked in the room. I guess this might have been Dr. Standifer, but how would I have known since he didn't introduce himself. He seemed very preoccupied and uninterested in me, my animal and a secondary symptom my kitten was exhibiting, unrelated to the spaying procedure. He took my kitten to another room with loud barking dogs, never explaining what he was doing. I'm glad my cat made it out alive. I deplore this clinic and wouldn't advise any pet owner who cares to bring their animal here. Some bedside manners and hygiene would be a good start, Dr. Standifer, who ever the hell you are. Notice that the others here who post negative reviews go into specifics. "Best vet in town" four word, five star reviews are from staff and their ilk.

I got a puppy that was found with 4 sisters on the side of the road. We took her in and everyone treated her like her own and we were so nice and wonderful. When the doctor came in, she was so pleasant and overall very happy to help. She treated my puppy like it was her own and my puppy definitely responded with happiness. This place is awesome. I take both of my dogs there to be groomed and let me tell you...Stephanie is amazing. My little girl dog loves it she’s very prissy and knows she’s being done up but my little boy is a different story. It’s like taking a 3 yr old to get his hair cut for the first time. He’s very hyper and he talks back to her the whole time but she is so patient with him and she gets him done. Took my 12 year old Long-haired Chihuahua there this past Friday night after I accidentally knocked a floor standing easel over on her. I was terrified that she might have a brain injury since the easel fell on her head. We were helped by a caring and friendly staff. I appreciated that there were no expensive unnecessary tests done on Magnolia. We received excellent vet care and left feeling good about the entire experience. Vet was extremely personal and kind. I will go back there if I ever need after hours care.

I trust my co-workers with the care of my dogs when I am away on vacation or taking a family trip. The workers at Standifers genuinely care about the pets they service daily. The kennel staff is very aware of even the smallest changes in eating habits and behaviors of boarding pets and they do not hesitate to bring these things to the attention of the medical staff. Yes.. I would like to say that Standifer's is an outstanding place... "just because" I work there... but in reality... the entire team makes this facility an awesome facility.. I never have reservations leaving my pets to board because I know that they will be taken care of.......Not just fed and walked.. but paid attention to... and loved. At the end of the day... veterinary employees are the best critics... or sources of recommendation... we know what good, quality care looks like... and even in my absence.. I am confident that my dogs are always treated like family when they are boarded at Standifers. It is an awesome place... for people and their pets! Lots of love inside those walls!

This was my first time using Standifer's and I couldn't be more pleased. I have a miniature schnauzer with pancreatitis.He gets extremely sick if he eats food other than what I prepare. His diet has to be low in protein and fat. After a horrible episode that almost cost him his life, I had to search for a groomer that would make sure he didn't eat anything while under their care and that would make the experience as stress free as possible. I am happy to say that I found that place. Standifer's was extremely professional and did everything they could to keep my dog safe and comfortable. Not only that, the groomer did a beautiful job! Thank you Stanifer's and Alfonzo! I plan to use you again and again. :)
