REVIEWS OF Animal Emergency & Critical Care IN Alabama

Dr. Bell was a life saver. My 7 month old puppy started vomiting Friday night, diagnosed with pancreatitis Saturday morning at his regular vet. Dr. Bell did a quick exam on him Saturday evening & said, "This is not pancreatitis." She wanted to do an exploratory abdominal surgery. I, being cautious and tending to believe my vet first, opted for the barium test as the xray was inconclusive. The barium test wasn't exactly clear either, but she wanted to proceed with surgery. I hesitated but agreed. Thank goodness I did. He had an obstruction (a toy) exactly where she suspected. She removed 1 foot of necrotic (dead) intestine. Had I hesitated and waited on an opinion from our vet Monday, he probably wouldn't be alive or he would be near death. His white blood cell count was really high, and he was so sick. Trust Dr. Bell. She has excellent assessment skills and instinct.

John Bayless

Knowledgeable, professional staff. Gave us a reasonable estimate and stuck to it.

Spent two hours to get just antibiotics. My dog was having trouble breathing and all they did was check his heartbeat with a stethoscope and check his throat with a tongue depressor. If you have to go to an emergency vet go to Decatur.

If it wasn't for Dr. Armes, Dr. Oliver and their staff my dog would not have made it past Saturday morning when we brought her in having the most awful seizure, bleeding and loss of bowel control I've seen in my life. Nobody thought she was going to survive without brain damage at minimum when we brought her in, but because of the determination of the professionals at the AEC not giving up on her, she is at home with us today and almost back to her old self (she's just super lazy right now because the seizure(s) took a lot out of her). The cost may seem high ( I work a blue collar job so I understand), but they have the ability to save your animal's life here. They don't give you unrealistic expectations, they are compassionate and take the time to explain things to you every step of the way. All the money in the world couldn't replace my baby being here today and without them it wouldn't have been possible. I could never thank them enough.

Horrible, traumatizing experience. The vet treated us with the most judgemental tone I've ever experienced (our pups have had 2 surgeries each, and multiple ER visits over the 10 years we've had them). NEVER heard my pup (or any other dog for that matter) scream as loud and long as she did when they took her back for an anal gland expression (and she gets it done at least monthly, has had them impacted, and infected). My independent pup became a Velcro pup for four days after that experience, she was so traumatized. If you love your pet, DO NOT take them here.

They were real nice an did what I could afford but they lied about his condition so I took him to red barn animal clinic in boaz. They were great with Duke an with us, an the vet wasn't happy about animal emergency clinic in Huntsville Alabama an after seeing they charged me nearly 400.00 for 1 Iv an I shot for nausea plus lieing to me an that could have killed my granddaughters little buddy. I'd like to sue them if I could but main this is red barn animal clinic an the great people who work there went out of their way for Duke an saved him an that's all that matters.

Taylor Von Terror Pinup

Took my Boston in and received fast service . The people were kind and the exam fee was only $90. They looked him over and were very friendly. We were given medication and quickly on our way. I appreciate the help and will use again if needed.

The wait time was long 3 hours but my 4lb dog hurt his back Sunday and today he is back to being himself 277.bucks was not to bad.

Went for an emergency with my boxers and the doctors took forever until they finally came in to see her and the price was outrageous just for the visit. They got the job done, but they didn't show great customer service at all. I definitely recommend going to Huntsville Veterinary Specialists and Emergency instead

Jeremy S

Ive taken my animals here a couple of times. They are good people

I thought the people were very kind to me when I brought my little doggie in. She was coughing, had a fever, and attempting to vomit but couldn't. They disclosed all costs up front and let me choose what I wanted to do. I couldn't afford all that she needed, so they gave her some injections to make her comfortable and try to bring her fever down until I can take her to see our regular vet tomorrow. I was impressed with how they handled the situation. I wouldn't call them over the top compassionate but they were friendly, kind, and professional.

Saturday night my baby, my puppy Jasper, was hit by a car and my super sweet friend drove me and Jasper all the way to Huntsville from Harvest to see if there was any way we could help him at the Animal Emergency Clinic. We got there at around 3 AM, and as I am sobbing with my puppy wrapped in a blanket in my arms, the girl that worked there actually smiled at me in almost a laughing way. I felt like she was laughing at me. She told me I could NOT carry him back to be checked and said it was against policy and that I had to give him to her. So with the last bit of hope I could muster, I handed him to her and fell to my knees crying. A few minutes later, she and another woman came out and said, "yes he's dead. Do you want us to do something with him?" NO! I don't even know if they even did anything to check on him. If I had to base that assumption on the way they treated me, I would say they probably didn't. I needed to know for sure. That's why I went. And they wouldn't even let me go back with him. I don't know anyone who would want to leave their beloved pet in a place like that so they could potentially throw them in the trash. Who knows what they would do. Saturday night was one of the worst nights of my life, and these people had NO compassion whatsoever. If you are going to run an emergency room for pets that is open all night, you obviously know that people are likely to be really upset if they are actually bringing an animal into the clinic in the middle of the night. Therefore, a little sympathy and compassion, common courtesy, would be nice and EXPECTED. I will never recommend this to anyone. Especially if you are desperately sad and you really want and need someone to try to save your pet, then do not expect any kind of empathy from this place. I am disgusted. DISGUSTED! I know I am bitter and terribly sad about the loss of my Jasper, but that is why I am so disturbed at the behavior of these cold hearted people.

Customer service (receptionist sucks!) Very rude and very slow. No compassion on the phone either whatsoever! I do not recommend this place I would go to banfield and pay the tiny difference for professional care.

Animal Emergency & Critical Care took great care of our dog after he was injured and needed stitches over the weekend. Yes, as some reviewers have mentioned, the services are probably more costly than your regular vet's office. But, that should be expected of any after hours/emergency clinic. Our visit was relatively quick. The office faxed over all information (including bloodwork & labs) to our regular vet's office and called to let our vet know about the situation. They also called to follow up about our dog a few days later and, upon request, emailed us all of the paperwork/lab info. I hope we do not need another visit to an emergency vet clinic but, if we do, it's reassuring knowing that this office is so close.

These people don't care about you and your dog .I've gone here twice only because I didn't know of any other emergency vet but they weren't even worth it . My first dog was attacked by another dog and his muscle was just hanging off his leg. They claimed they would have to remove his leg and I said no and went to another vet later after just receiving bandages and needless to say , he made a full recovery and his leg is fully functional . And just recently I took my little teacup puppy because he suffered head trauma . Granted , I known it's a small chance that tiny puppies like that can rarely survive such an ordeal , but they didn't even trytry . All they did was poke his head and said his brain was crushed and that he needs to be put to sleep . No exam or anything .I walked out of there and waited until morning to go to a recommended vet and he examed and X-rayed him right away. He did say it's a small chance but there's still a chance so he gave me 3 different kind of medications to give twice a day to help the swelling (he suffered a small fracture on sidr of head and his head swelled up with brain fluid ). I already knew his brain wasn't crushed because he still had his reflexes and responded to sounds , sight , etc . And once again , he is recovering .His eyes have completely opened and the swelling is slowly but suredly going down and he's already walking and howling again along with starting to eat on his own . To sum it up , do NOT go to these careless people . They only want your money

For a while it was the only clinic in town open after hours. I had to take my pets there several times. Neither visit was fruitful, we ended up having to go to our regular vet every time except for the time when my dog died there. My last visit was a couple of days ago which turned out to be a waste of time and money andy cat was missing diagnosed and as a result did not get life saving treatment right away. There are other clinics open after hours now and I'm not going back here again.

Over the years, I have brought several pets to this emergency clinic when my regular vet was closed. They have always treated me and my pet as a very important priority. The doc and staff is always nice and smiling, because they know we are there for unpleasantness. My last trip there about 5 days ago was no different. I was seen quickly, and my cat was diagnosed very quickly as well. The doc, again, was very nice and understanding. Thanks a million for caring for my beloved pets.

I have used this clinic on occasion with OK results. For those who have been disappointed; it is what it is. First, no quality vet works the night shift. Same for quality vet techs, mostly. Face it, you go there because you have no alternative; so, impressing with a cheerful and helpful attitude in not necessary, Winning a new customer or retaing a current is not an issue. As to cost, “emergency” = extra charge. At leasty we have something. A tip. Having a regular vet probably gets you better service. I suspect this clinic is supported in some fashion by local vets.

SilverOceanFox .

I got terrible service. My dog has ticks all in his ears that we didn't see until today. Where we live ticks are abundant so we check them every day all over. For some reason they picked today to have a slumber party in our huskies ears. Both of them. There is blood all around the ticks. He whimpered in pain just from us barely touching his ears so we could look at them. We tried to pull them out, we tried to spray some tick killing treatment on the area which did help but blood started to come out more and we couldn't just leave the dead ticks in there. He wouldn't hold still for anything because it hurt so bad. My boyfriend and I decided there was no longer anything we could do, especially sense I don't get paid till Friday. So any regular vet wasn't going to do it. We drove from our home in Falkville, Alabama to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Huntsville, Alabama. It was the only place we could go to hoping for any help because we couldn't pay for it just yet. We drive there with my dog with us, my boyfriend walks in while we wait in the car. He's polite as can be. He explains our situation to the lady at desk. The woman's response was, "That's not an emergency, we only treat animals in emergencies". He got that, that's what this established is for. Anyway, the lady then turns to another woman working there, asked her what could be done. The girl says she doesn't know. Then the original lady told us to use Frontline. We then asked her questions about the Frontline. Questions like, what happens when the ticks die from it? They answered, Idk maybe, they'll probably dig deeper. My boyfriend's next question, well couldn't that hinder his hearing? Her response, Idk. First off, your working in an animal clinic. Your SUPPOSED to know. Don't work somewhere that is literally nothing but working with animals if you don't know answers to questions like that. It is your job to know these things. Also, they both rolled their eyes thinking we couldn't see. After my boyfriend came out and told me, I was furious. But I sat in the car and cooled down so I could think rationally and not be rude to them because I was going in there soon. I went in and said to the lady, "Hi, I'm the owner of the husky the guy that came in before me that was talking to you about. I'm not trying to be rude but my dog is in pain and you refuse to help him?". She says that they demand payment up front. I get that, that's fine. We would've paid as soon as I get paid on the coming Friday. But this place is for emergencies. I had an emergency. They didn't think it was deemed good enough for that. You know, if it would've been THEIR dog, they would've been thinking differently. They'd do it then. This isn't the first time we've had problems with them. Last time my boyfriend's dog had gotten hit by a car and they did pretty much the same thing. They didn't know much about it, they gave us bullshit excuses(pardon my language), and demanded an outrages amount of money for that particular situation. So if you want your pet to actually get help, don't come here. They don't care about your pet. They don't no anything that they should about animals. They're in it for the money. They're also rude. So to save yourself the trouble, you should go elsewhere.

Tati Monű

I call myself calling to ask questions about bringing puppy in who was dying (3 month old), but the lady on the phone was just like "Ummm, whatever your situation is. I really don't know how I can help you, you can bring the dog in if you want it doesn't matter." She really didn't care to help at all she was so rude after I told her what was going on. I realized she just didnt want to help me over the phone because she couldn't charge me so she made the call less helpful to me then she should so I could come in and be OVERCHARGED if you are going to have a business you are supposed to make money we get that, but you need to have good customer service and try to play the best interest of your customers, customers first right? Not going to waste my time with this place.

Nolan Kroeger

My dog ate some stuff that he was not supposed to (he ate a lot). I called and asked a bunch of questions, the receptionist was amazing. Brought my dog in, they took immediate care of him and let me know everything that was happening and the costs. Price was not bad for what they had to do to help him and the vet was very polite and understanding. I do reccomend!

We are so thankful for this clinic and staff! They saved our dog from dying after he had accidentally ingested poison last week. The doctors and staff were so kind and professional and quickly knew what to do. Can’t thank you enough.

Took my little dog there, she was not herself and seemed to cry from some sort of pain she was having. All I got from Dr. Tucker was a bill for $562 if I wanted my dog to have a pain shot, inflammatory shot x-rays and lab work. Just to walk in the door is $90.00. I chose not to have her treated due to the fact the doctor didn't know what was wrong with my dog. I didn't want to cover up her illness with the shots, I wanted to know what was wrong so she could get the correct treatment. Needless to say I did sign the form and the bottom of the page with a note that said Thanks for NOTHING... I didn't want a copy of the report all I wanted was pay the $90.00 and get out of there. The office could see I was really upset with them so they didn't charge me anything for my dogs visit. Seemed fair since they did nothing for her. This place is a high RIP OFF

Joseph Townsend

Terrible, my Jack Russell was bitten by a pitbull, we rushed to this location because nothing in Decatur was available, Cookie was bitten on her rump and hind quarters, they placed a bandage on her and cost $267.00 They didn't clean her wounds, no stitches (After stating she needed them) we got a $2 bandage for this outrageous charge, call your local veterinarian they'll open up for emergency, you don't need Huntsville emergency and critical care, I won't be patronizing this place in the future. One star because it was open.

robert word

This is easily the most incompetent and clueless veterinarian I have ever seen. No idea what's going on and charges a small fortune. You are better off waiting until your regular vet is open. This guy should not even be in business.

Rachel Hawke

TL:DR terrible customer service, ok vet service. Unprofessional staff. Good for “real emergencies” only- the ladies words. My dog was in distress and my regular vet (who is awesome) had just closed. They recommend this place to me if I thought she couldn’t wait until morning. I called this clinic to get their opinion. I should have known better. The lady over the phone told me to get there right away because my dog was clearly having an emergency. She said it was going to be $90.00 for them to giver her an exam and some X-rays. If after that more treatment was needed they would give me an estimate. I thought this price was reasonable. So I rush down there, dog in tow only to be greeted very rudely. I barely get out “I need-“ before she dismissed and told me to just sign in and save it for the vet. I’m struggling to hold my dog (who could not stand on her own) and fill out my name and etc while she just stood there in her phone. Ok whatever. When I do finally see the vet and tell her exactly what I said over the phone she literally shrugged and said that they could X-ray her for another $200 (which they said was part of the $90 on the phone) or I could take her back home and watch her because there wasn’t anything they could do. She basically told me that there wasn’t really an emergency and to just wait for my vet to open in the morning. She didn’t even examine my dog. They took her temp and that was it. She said my dog seemed relatively fine. I tried to explain that this was nothing like her normal self, that she could barely even walk. But no real exam, just some X-rays. They said there wasn’t anything they could do anyway because the X-rays couldn’t tell them much and my vet could do more. Thanks? Side note: my dog was born blind. I told her this much when we came in. She then asked if our dog knew sign commands since she was deaf. What? No, she can’t see. She’s blind... Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad an emergency vet exist. I guess mine wasn’t enough of an emergency for them to really care. They just wanted to get me in, get my money, and get me out. So here I am, comforting a very scared, very sweet dog through the night until my vet opens.

We took our dog in for an exam at 7:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday, because our regular vet was out of town for the next three days. This was our first visit to this clinic, so we called ahead to make sure they’re open and that a vet is there on duty at 7:00 a.m. The exam was adequate, and the prices were very reasonable. The problem we had was their customer service. When we arrived, there was no receptionist or other person at the front desk, so we had to wait about 10-15 minutes upon arrival. Then we go the usual preliminary paperwork completed and waited another 20 minutes before the receptionist showed us to the exam room. So far so good. But once in the exam room we waited about an hour before Dr. Dawn Tucker showed up. It was a minor exam that only took about five minutes, and we have no complaints with her exam. When we were ready to leave there was no one at the front desk again. So, we had to wait 20 more minutes before someone arrived, so we could pay our bill and leave. During this time, while we were waiting to pay, we couldn’t take our dog out because we found that the front doors were locked. We were locked in! I honestly believe that they lock people in, so they can’t leave without paying. When someone finally arrived, we asked her to unlock the doors and she did it from behind the counter. After she unlocked the doors, we took our dog out and then came back in and paid our bill. I’m sure that they have many customers who don’t realize that they have a right to go out and that this clinic does not have legal authority to lock them in. Again, we have no problem with the exam our dog received, or the prices charged. But if the customer service is this bad a 7:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday I can only imagine how bad it must be on a busy day. Apparently, this clinic has all the business that they want/need so they aren’t worried about getting repeat business. Maybe that’s why they call it an “emergency” clinic. But we won’t be going back whether it’s an emergency or not.

Last Sunday I rushed my Bronco to the ER and he received exceptional treatment and care. Sadly he ended up having to be put to sleep but they were able to help ensure his last few moments he spent free of pain and fear and I was able to stay and talk with him. Today I received a very kind card from the office in which they had all signed their sympathy. I would never wish that experience on anyone but I am forever grateful for the care the provided to us.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PLACE EVER. MAJORLY OVERPRICED. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS! ONLY MONEY. THIS IS THE MOST UNCARING VETERINARIAN CLINIC I HAVE EVER SEEN. TRULY SHOCKING AND HEARTBREAKING. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. PLEASE TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY. AGAIN THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF YOUR ANIMAL.

Michael Goshen

Pricey, but open nights and weekends. Was treated with respect and expect long waits. They see animals based off of critical needs first triage based system.

Our dog was hit by a car. The AEC was kind and caring in treating our dog and did a great job of explaining his condition to us so that we could care for his injuries at home.

The staff here could not have been better. The techs and doctor were a godsend. If you ever need after-hours emergency care for your pet, this is a very good place to go.

Took my seizing puppy there. The company (not workers) cares about money before care. I had forgot my wallet when I rushed her out the door, they needed 400 dollars to start looking at her at all. Most places I know would have helped my dog and billed me..they suggested I drive back (40 mins) and get my wallet or I go home and take her to the vet. She's going to the vet today....I was also told "that's why you shouldn't get your dogs at a flea market" and we'll that may be true, that puppy still needed a home no matter where she was from and I saved her from being out in 29 degrees shaking and going back to who knows where and being treated like who knows what. Some of the associates may have cared but they can't do anything when rules are set in stone.

My ten pound Siamese, Sammie, was asleep with me when my 20 pounder, Casper, jumped up onto the bed, landing square on top of Sammie. Sammie promptly bit Casper right in the eye! ~~ We weren't mad at Sammie, but it was about 10 pm and our vet was closed, so I called the Animal Emergency Clinic, and brought Casper in promptly. ~~ We are blessed, they were able to provide excellent and prompt care, and Casper's eye was saved!! He will have a scar, but will be able to see almost normally. ~~ The vet staff was extremely helpful and caring, and they got my approval for a cost range up front. At the end of the visit, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had come in at the low end of the estimate! I would recommend Animal Emergency Clinic any time! ~ although I hope we have no more cat emergencies, I would not hesitate to return. ~~ HELPFUL SUGGESTION: Drive by and locate the clinic before you need to go there in the middle of the night. It's south of Governor's, on the southbound access road, at the far end of the parking lot where it's not easy to see from the road. Just a little confusing when you're in a hurry! They do keep the doors locked at night, so it might be helpful to call first so they are watching for you.

My dachshund was not eating or moving. Took him in and they were so thorough and very responsive. He had a very large tumor that had grown and was inoperable and taken half his little body. Never knew it was there. The compassion they showed my sweet Slinky was so sweet and appreciated. Had him for 17 years. Thank you for the extra love and kindness you showed us and him during a very difficult time.

Angie Tate

They are helpful and knowledgeable but be ready to drain your bank account. We had to go on a weekend because our vet was closed. They wouldn't take our dog back until I paid $125.00 up front. Then there were extra cost at the end. They turned one person away with a sick cat after they had paid the $125.00 and couldn't afford the treatment plan. It really is all about the money here and not the pets. I am not saying you shouldn't have to pay but I feel they could work with people better. Not everyone has an extra $500.00 laying around.

The rates are crazy high, which I guess can be expected with an emergency clinic, but its almost to the point of rip-off high! It cost us almost $2000 to leave and treat our cat for the weekend, and he was still not well when they released him. They told us that he was okay to be discharged, but as soon as we got home, we noticed that something was still wrong, and early the next day we had to rush him to a regular vet, as he obviously was not well at all! The shape that he was still in, we feel that he shouldn't have been discharged! We also wonder how much of the stuff that they charged us for, they actually did for our cat. All of the staff were friendly and nice, except for the evening receptionist who had no personality and was not nice at all. She acted like you were inconveniencing her by being there.

Did not suggest unnecessary Services. Took our dog in, quick diagnosis. No stupid tests suggested. $90. Took our dog home, cared for her over night, and took her to our loved vet. And, BTW, we spent about $2000 here on another dog. It is what it is. I think they do the right thing.

I have needed the Animal Emergency Clinic twice since moving to Huntsville. Both times were true emergencies. One, out of the 6 felines I own, struggles with asthma. All of the employees that I have dealt with, whether it is 8pm or 3:30am have ALWAYS been friendly and professional, compassionate and kind. They ARE a bit pricey,(charging for how much oxygen is used and for how long. This is money you must pay up front if your sick one has to stay over night. They give you an estimated run down of fees that could crop up overnight. They also refund any charges that were not used!

Dr. Bell was going to charge $2000 more than another vet in this same facility for the same procedure. Place is filthy too, for the love of God, please mop the floors. Prices are outrageous too, it is too sad to see people given the option to either euthanize their pet or pay thousands of dollars for a procedure other vets would charge a fraction for. The ONLY reason I came here was because my normal vet was closed and I like my dog very much. I paid >$3500 for my visit. The technicians are very nice, but they are a bit clueless when it comes to the billing and prices. The receptionists I dealt with were nice, they have free bottled drinks if you ask. The vets are a bag of mixed nuts, I think Dr. Bell is greedy. I think Dr. Buxton is insensitive, I really dislike her. Luckily, I have not had to deal with anyone else. The place was kindof annoying because they keep the front door locked at all times, it sucked because I wanted to go in and out a lot but the receptionist has to hit a button behind the desk to unlock it. A lot of time, the receptionist is the back doing who knows what. Moral of the story, if you can go somewhere else, do it. Pet insurance might be a good idea to.

Kind, understanding folks! I took my service dog in to get checked for puncture wounds after we had a scary run-in with a possum (that actually ran into us — so weird!!). She was seen almost immediately by the doctor, and get this: since she was puncture-wound-free and didn’t need any further services, they didn’t charge for the visit! The vet tech even gave my pup homemade pumpkin treats once we were finished! Thanks for making a scary night so much better!!!

Mark Havira

I started to give this 4 Stars but upon thinking it over it costs a lot of money to keep a place like this open 24/7. I have used them for birds and dogs and never any complaint, the last time they were actually busy and the vet came out into the waiting room and looked at my dog and pronounced him fine to wait to see my usual vet the next day at no cost to me so I don't see them as money grubbers but be prepared, if you go here you are gonna spend some serious money unless it is REALLY minor.

Evening receptionist EXTREMELY RUDE. When I got there with my 2.5 chihuahua,my lil dog was non responsive and still. I just drove an hour at 100mph to get there, and the receptionist didnt even look up at me and my dog, and rudly said " theres not a dr on duty right now", REALLY! THEN I asked where the closest hospital around was, and again still not looking up said " Decatur", and went right back to wut she was doing. I went to leave and someone came out from back and said Dr was there. I knew then 2 leave, but I didn't want my dog to die driving to Decatyr, so I stayed. BAD MISTAKE. There's really 2 much bad stuff 2 even list on here. Rates EXTREMELY high. When I asked about ONE simple test that was SUPPOSED to be done, it couldn't be found anywhere on the paperwork. Charged me almost $1,000 and still have no idea why or what was done. Sad excuse for a Animal hospital.

if I could give a zero rating I would. Heartless damn people! They will not do anything for you if you don't have the money right then and there. they won't even wait a bit so you can get it. Then they send you home with your dying pet, and let you deal with it. my cat is the sweetest most loving cat you will ever meet, and for them to treat him this way, pisses me off to no end. If you want your pet to live,or have a better chance at living, go elsewhere!!! Don't go to this murder hospital. Also, I will be reporting them to the BBB. if you had a horrible experience that showed their lack of compassion for animals in pain, report as well. This place needs to be shut down!

I took my cat to vet today (Friday), they did blood work and got the results back around 5:30pm and called me. She appeared to be having some severe kidney problems, levels were very high. She recommended fluid therapy but since they were about to close that I could get this done at an Animal ER. She first mentioned the one in Decatur (now in hind sight I know why she mentioned that one first). When I asked her was there a place closer she mentioned this place. After arriving we checked in, I informed then the situation, filled out some paperwork and sat down to wait. We were called into a room in about 15 mins. After we signed in and turned in our paper work a lady walked in with a dog and I could hear her telling the front desk he was limping. So after being called back, we waited another 30 mins. Finally a tech comes in I explain every thing. Then we waiting for over an hour. During this time I hear someone talking I pop my head out to find the Vet discharging this lady that checked in after me, so they had seen her and sent her on her way while we still waited with a very sick cat. Lets just say this gave us plenty of time to look around the small room we waited in, it was filthy, animal hair all caught up in the gears and behind the table that weighs them, its alike a mechanical table the moves. We are not talking day old hair we are talking months old animal hair. At this point I had made the decision that I was not leaving my cat there, that likely she would get worse in an environment like this or even die. So after the lady left with the dog with the limp, I walked out of the room and to the counter and asked this they forget about us. I actually think they did because about 45 mins into our stay in that room I heard them call my name out front. I walked out and said I am already in a room. They were like oh ok. They were not super busy, when I popped my head I only saw one set of people waiting. Finally the vet comes in, she only listens to my cats heart and then says that maybe she has a heart murmur, of course my cat was at my vet that day and had a complete workup and nothing like this was mentioned, plus she had her shots back in March and have never been told that. So we go through the blood work and I tell her I want to have the fluids placed by syringe in her back as leaving her over night with IV would only stress her. Sometimes your pets are more comfortable at home and this procedure results the same, but you just have to bring them back every 24 hrs to have it done again, until they are well. So after they finally take her to do this procedure then bring her back I wait another hour to even check out, I am just left there in the room waiting. The brought some paper work in for me to check declining I want her to stay and have IV, with the prices written down for each procedure. The amount says $671, if I want to to stay, but then I initial decline on that and just initial accept on the things done. So after yet another 45 mins, the tech comes in to check me out, I go to counter and the guy says $671. I'm like but I declined these things, its clearly written on the paper what I accepted and what I declined. So he pulls out a calculator and starts to add things up, after adding it 3 times and getting 3 different amounts, I ask him if he wants me to try. Clearly the guy can't understand a simple calculator. Then I tell him I am not coming back as this place is a joke, one of the other techs comes in and he tells her "she isn't coming back because this place is a joke". I have allot of patience and it isn't about cost as I had already spent $280 at my vet that day on my cat, but I truly felt if I left her there that she would get worse. Please if anyone is reading this I can't stress enough to make the extra drive to Decatur. My vet is open tomorrow and if they can't give her another treatment for fluid therapy then I will be making that drive. I only hope this post saves one person for the BS that I went through this evening.

There are so many reviews that put this place in a bad light, so I was very worried when I took my cat in for emergency care but they were the closest and we were desperate. My kitty had a temp of 104.5 and was listless. He's elderly so we knew it might not be a good outcome, but we had to try. The staff was professional and gave us info on prices before anything happened. We declined the x-ray and went for blood tests to start. Yes it was more expensive than our regular vet, but not obscene. They were back quickly and told us what the values on the tests meant and stressed again to get the x-ray. Were they fishing for money? No. They were worried about his liver because of the blood tests. After fluids and medicine to care for the issue at hand they showed us the x-ray and suggested we go to the regular vet when they opened in the morning. Good thing they did. These people saved my pets life by spotting his cancer BEFORE it had spread, all because of a severe illness that was unrelated. We were able to take him in for surgery just days later, he didn't need chemo, and he is fine now. These people work long, odd hours and see chaos all the time, but I never questioned their concern and care for my pet. Does it cost? Yeah. Was it worth it? Heck yeah.

Jessie Rocha

Rude all the way around. Deny that the animal is there and when asked if there are cameras to prove it they refuse to look at them. Then say oh well X-rays were refused so animal was never seen in a room nor by the vet. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Yet you have a list of recomendations? Arrived last Tuesday evening with a family member's pet dog that had a strong case of Parvo. The Receptionist, Vet Tech and Vet were all friendly and were able to answer all of my questions. He did test positive for Parvo and was immediately hospitalized. They did everything they could to help him through the night and I was able to come in early the next day to pick him up. It's been 48 hours and the pup is doing a lot better. The only thing that concerned me was that he was discharged from the clinic with the IV needle attachment thingy still stuck in his arm. Please remember that it was almost 5:30 in the morning when I picked him and I didn't catch it until I got home. I'm thankful that I can stand the sight of a little blood, but the experience caught me off guard.

The tech didn't want to look at my Baby as he lay here bleeding , the vet acted like she didn't want to take care of him unless I knew it was gonna be expensive. Then when they finally took my baby back The tech got irritated and made sure she made it known because she had to carry my 60llb baby to the back. ( He had a gaping hole in his leg and chest) . I needed to go pay they refused to let me out of the building to get my wallet from my vehicle, when I stated multiple times I needed to get my wallet. This clinic may be a need, but they have no business dealing with people the way I was treated. I wish there was more options available in Huntsville. Price was high but My Baby is worth it

Preston Taylor

Just called about my dog having seizures and the lady I spoke with was one of the rudest people I’ve ever talked to! She was no help at all and just said she didn’t know that I should ask my regular vet. I asked to speak with someone above her and she told me no! Very unprofessional and rude! I would like to speak with someone in higher management about this, because I am outraged at how rude this lady was.

Heather McGaha

I do not recommend this place. I took my cat in that had stopped eating and was lethargic. The vet tech asked questions and walked out. Dawn Tucker, DVM came in and did a minimal exam and the only feedback was that he wasn't running fever. She walked out and then a vet tech walked in with a clipboard of all these procedures and prices. The estimate was between $500 and $700. The vet tech gave no reasons why these things were even considered. I chose an injection for nausea because I knew licking lips sometimes means nausea and I had seen him vomit a few nights before. I had no idea what I should choose or why. I felt so helpless. I spent $141.00 for poor service, lack of training and poor knowledge. The paperwork said he was diagnosed with gastritis. I ended up having to go to another emergency vet. That veterinarian within 10 mins could tell me he was not blocked and that he had ulcers in his gums that were causing him not to eat. He explained that blood work would help to see where kidney functioning was. Blood work indicated he was in kidney failure. It took me 5 days around the clock to save his life. My bill was approximately $300 for answers and solutions that saved my cat's life. If Ms. Tucker had only done a proper exam that I paid $90 for my cat wouldn't have gone into kidney failure. I cried for 5 days straight and prayed and begged for life to come back to my baby. There was no empathy, no personality. It was a business only environment. I really would like at least $90 returned. I left numerous massages for the office manager, Deanna Bayless and I get put on hold, told she is in a meeting and no return call.

Cheryl Canady Boleware

Had to take our Eli and can say Dr. Bell and Staff were very caring.

Amanda C

The Vet & staff are very caring & kind! Animal Emergency Clinic is an after hours clinic only with hours approximately 6pm-8am & open during Holidays & weekends. I called on the phone before bringing my dog in & the kind lady who answered the phone helped me to access the emergency, giving me vital info to get there quickly & safely. Their prices were very reasonable & they saved my dog after an infection from a dental went to his heart. My dog has had seizures for 11 years & he's a 13 year old Italian Greyhound. They understood his complex medical condition, seizure medications, along with properly & quickly diagnosing the immediate life threatening infection. Their knowledge & expertise saved my dog's life! They came up with a treatment plan & told me the cost up front - No surprise bill at the end! While I was There, a family had to put their old dog to sleep. During such a sad loss for that family, the staff were so compassionate & caring even though they must see that often in their line of work. They walked the family & carried their beloved dog out to their car in dignified grace. I saw hugs & beautiful human compassion for a family was heartbroken losing their old, sick dog who was obviously a very loved part of their family. I am grateful to say we had a happy outcome & my dog came home with me after the treatment. They didn't give up on him or me! It was so comforting knowing everything was being done to save my dog & they gave us the best possible outcome! I left knowing how to care for him with excellent knowledge of the medications prescribed. I highly recommend Animal Emergency Clinic for emergency pet needs & will definitely use them again should the need arise.

Andrew Burrows

Excellent service from all. I just dearly hope that the vet never encounters an seizure in a human. Dear lady doesn’t know a thing about them.

Bee J

Initially the nurse seemed as if she didn't care, I asked her "how are you" and she did not respond one bit. My dog was shuffling his feet and was not very active, he is a cocker spaniel and is hyper everyday. By the time we left my dog could not walk on his hind legs AT ALL. My dog was clearly in pain and the nurse spoke with my dog and acted as if she did not want to deal with me. I tried to help assist with getting him on the table and make HIM as comfortable as possible but the nurses attitude was very condescending. Only after she came back in the room and noticed I was crying, only then, did she empathize with me by this time the damage had been done. Not only was my dog roughly restrained to give him a shot (why they did not put a muzzle on him and give him the shot is beyond me) he was given back with no instructions on how to hold him or where the pain was isolated so I could stay away from the area. We paid $306 with NO X-RAY, only meds and a shot. If your animal is not in immediate danger of passing away I would suggest NOT going here. We took my dog to his vet Monday morning and paid $270 with a x-ray (disc pressing on nerve) and more meds.

Amy B

Very compassionate, fair prices

Andrew Sypniewski

Opted to bring our Yorkie here in the early morning after an incident in evening the day before. The staff present were caring, kind, and attentive. Dr. Carlo, although exhausted from a major surgery he had just performed, was able to inform me of my options, what they meant for our dog, and even personally chose a few that he deemed were not necessary based upon his preliminary check; thus saving me money and both of us our time. The building was clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend them to any one who's animal needs medical attention during times when the average vet is unavailable.

Nathan Stewart

Assessed the cats issue quickly and resolved. Cost was a pretty big ouch, but that's to be expected from emergency care. Staff was great, but I truly hope to never need their services again. Will return if they are required though!

Tracy Schroeder Swartz

I had a wonderful experience during an unfortunately incident with my dog. He had acute pain and was unable to walk, so at 2am, I packed up my dog and drove here. They deferred testing of my pet's problem to a specialist but controlled his pain, referred me to a specialist, and actually correctly identified his problem (a diagnostic zebra!). I would not hesitate to return should my dog require it. Vet's are expensive -- so is the ER when you don't have insurance.

Had to take our Eli and can say Dr. Bell and Staff were very caring.

Excellent service from all. I just dearly hope that the vet never encounters an seizure in a human. Dear lady doesn’t know a thing about them.

Very compassionate, fair prices

Opted to bring our Yorkie here in the early morning after an incident in evening the day before. The staff present were caring, kind, and attentive. Dr. Carlo, although exhausted from a major surgery he had just performed, was able to inform me of my options, what they meant for our dog, and even personally chose a few that he deemed were not necessary based upon his preliminary check; thus saving me money and both of us our time. The building was clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend them to any one who's animal needs medical attention during times when the average vet is unavailable.

Jeff Wilder

This experience was terrible came to the clinic with my sister. Puppy had ticks all on back and in ears and showed signs of being in pain, receptionist and nurse technician didn't care and acted like they didn't want to be bothered. Walked in the receptionist was eating a plate full of food and didn't care about helping my dog! Do not bring your pet here, they do not care about their wellbeing and therefore don't deserve your business. They don't seem to know anything As to how to fix the problem, which they should know being that they are supposed to be vets. ABSOLUTEY terrible experience.

Didn't actually have to come in but in a moment of crisis, one of the vets helped calm me down SO MUCH. I had come home alone to find my dog had eaten some plastic and was really worried, and the vet was so patient and kind and honest with me and gave me thorough and thoughtful advice. Calmed me down a whole lot and my dog recovered, thank you!!

I had what felt like an emergency over the weekend with my cat. She had been in labor for over 12 hours, with only two births at that point (according to the internet, very bad) and she was starting to spot blood. I rushed to the clinic. I can say I was a bit upset that the person that let me in told me the receptionist would be back in a few minutes, but go on an fill out the paperwork. I was panicked over my cat and it didn't seem too important. However, the receptionist came back and before she really even got comfortable at her desk - we were being called back to a room. So, even though it didn't seem as if they were doing anything, we were still being processed through. I did feel as if they thought I was crazy over her labor being so long, but I didn't worry until there was blood. They took an x-ray to let me know how many more kittens to expect. I honestly felt better after the x-ray and being told how much longer it could actually be. Happily, I got her home and within three hours, the other four were born. We lost only two out of the litter. Mom and babies are good. The really great thing that made me happy was that they called me tonight just to check to see how she was doing. I appreciated that even though I may not have needed to take her in, they still called me back to check on her.

I am extremely disappointed in the care my dog received. My dog hurt his paw and couldn’t walk. My dog has an extremely high tolerance for pain, so for him to cry and whine is a huge deal. We waited for 3 hours to be seen, which is what we expected for an emergency facility. We didn’t mind the wait. When Dr. Bell came in to examine him, she spent less than a minute with us before deciding he needed to be taken away from us to be examined. They took him to the back then immediately brought him back to the exam room. She claimed he was too stressed to be examined and we offered to help hold him because he trusts us and put a muzzle on him. She told us to just take him to his normal vet because she didn’t want to touch him. I understand you have to protect yourself if you think a dog could be dangerous, but he had no history of violence, we had full control over him and offered to muzzle him, and had come for help because he was in so much pain. To just be rejected and turned away was very upsetting. Of course they still charged us $90 to be “seen” even though they didn’t even examine him. Hopefully you will never have to use this service, but if you do, you need to be prepared for staff who doesn’t care enough about their patients to even look at them. Thankfully the Decatur emergency vet will reopen soon!

I would like to thank the ER staff for being so kind. I brought my chi-winnie in after being snake bit last evening, she was in bad shape when we came home and found her the ER staff did every thing they could for her but she was too far gone. they were so kind and caring.. Thank you so much for your understanding of what my fur baby meant to me. so glad we have this service around. if I had found her sooner I am sure they could have saved her. God Bless.

If I could rate 0 stars I would, I called this vet office last night after our baby was having what we thought was a miscarriage. The very heartless individual that answered the phone put me on hold for 15 minutes to ask a question to the techs and vet, I understand they are seeing other emergency and all but, damn you dont have be so heartless and tell me "oh she is probably having a miscarriage and that's all I can say." Didnt even offer for me to bring her in or anything to that extent. I would not bring an animal to this clinic, I would rather drive hundreds of miles to another hospital before I go here. People here dont care, they are heartless, and believe they will pay for this cause God doesn't like ugly. Thank God I found a clinic to help my baby and she is doing great. So thank you Animal Emergency Clinic of North Alabama for nothing. I will be reporting your clinic to the veterinarian medical board best believe that.

Very caring during crises. Vet was knowledgeable and understanding and gave several options for pricing and medical options. Especially considering pricing was out of her control. It is expensive. But expected for emergency services.

Our beloved dog was extremely sick when we brought him into the clinic late on a Friday night. Unfortunately his illness was terminal and we elected to assist his passing. The vet and technicians were very kind, empathetic, and compassionate. Although a bad situation, the clinic team made the situation a lot easier to bear.

We took our cat to this vet when we noticed on a Friday evening that his backside was all distended. It turned out he was constipated and the vet gave him an enema. The vet came out later and told us he'd gotten tired of waiting, so he manually broke up the obstruction. All great, except for the attitude. He was very clear that he was doing us a favor, never-mind that he is a veterinarian whose services were being paid for. We were also told that our cat was mildly dehydrated but was fine, we should just take him to the vet Monday. Our vet happens to be open on Saturdays, thank goodness, so we took him in literally a few hours later. At that point we were told he needed to be admitted immediately and put on fluids because he was dangerously dehydrated and that was the reason all of his lab work was so out of wack the night before. Had we waited until Monday, like the emergency vet suggested, we might have been dealing with an even sicker cat or worse. I cannot recommend this location. There are emergency veterinary services in Decatur, which would be a farther drive for us, but after this experience, I believe it would be worth it.

I have read some of the reviews and cannot believe the others went to the same place I did. Due to a life-threatening situation for one of my cats on a weekend, I had to go to this ER clinic. From my first phone call, to my arrival at the clinic, to the care of my cat, to discharge the following morning, we were treated in the most compassionate and professional manner. Dr Armes and every member of the staff that we came in contact with were amazing. Together they saved my cat! YAY!! I am forever grateful!! I would highly recommend this clinic and would go again if the need arose, but I hope it doesn't.

My Maltipoo got attacked by a lab that had her in it's mouth. She had 2 puncture wounds to the abdomen. The woman at the desk just said, "It'll be at least an hour and a half." No triage. Just "We'll get to you when we can." Veterinary Regional Referral Hospital in Decatur was 30 minutes away but they took her straight back.

Took my 5 month old puppy here Wednesday day night. She was vomitting and her stool was full of blood. The technician came and gave a estimate of how much it would be to run a test when we told her we would have to come up with more money than we brought with us she flat out stated " We are stopping here". All she seemed to care about was the money. Dr. Tucker, who was the vet , was very rude an unhelpful. She came in the room twice only to continually tell us that our puppy had parvo, before they even did a test. The park test came back negative but she did have worms. We were told our puppy was going to be okay. Not once were we informed that it was a severe case or that other test needed to be done. They gave her a dose of deformed and gave me 2 more to give her and sent us on our way. Under the impression our little pup was going to be okay we went to bed, just to wake up the next morning and find our puppy dead. I called the vet back to tell them what happened and was constantly met with rude women who only blamed me for this. I explained to them what we were told which was that she had worms but she would be fine. The lady on the phone proceeds to tell me there were other tests that could have been done. None of these "other test" we brought to our attention. Not once were we told there were other test or how severe the case was. All they seemed to be able to tell us was how much it would cost. This place is filled with rude money hungry people who care nothing about our animals.
