They don't offer enough classes for most people to graduate in a reasonable amount of time. Many of the teachers, you might even say most teachers, aren't very good at their jobs. I'll be entering my third year this fall, but I haven't been a full time student for the last two semesters. I couldn't. One of my friends has already left. More of my friends aren't returning in the fall. I only got into two of the five classes that I NEED to take for my major. And I'm in game design. Stout prioritizes my major. All CS majors are treated with more respect, but we're not even getting the classes we need. I'd speculate that this might have something to do with the tuition freeze by Governor Walker a couple years back, but that really shouldn't matter. I'm not a Republican and I'm not a Democrat. I don't really care much about the politics behind it. I just believe that I'm entitled to what I've paid for. If I'm going to keep spending tens of thousands of dollars for credits and living expenses, then I expect that I'll be able to take the classes that I need, but they're not being offered. The University is robbing the students, and that's not right. That's my opinion, and that's the prevailing opinion among everyone with whom I've spoken. Stout is garbage. Don't go here unless things change. And even if reforms are implemented, an education at Stout is still a hard sell. The employment rate after graduation, however, is actually not that bad, but that's about the only positive factor.

This university is awesome. I'm a transferred student from China and it provides me a fair and free atmosphere for academic. And citizens here are very friendly and nice.

As a former graduate of UW-Stout, I can attest to the welcoming atmosphere that Stout offers its students, allowing them to feel as if Stout is their home away from home. Additionally, Stout is notorious for its high job placement rate because of its affiliation with a variety of companies which enable internship opportunities and its hands-on approach to learning, facilitating the ability for students to find jobs within their field after graduation.

Awesome place I've ever been!

Charged my son $100 for a parking ticket. He had on site parking privileges. Didn't move his car quick enough for homecoming activities. Guess who pays this?? Ridiculous. Egg on his dorm window for months after he moved in. Guess they haven't issued enough parking tickets to get it cleaned.

Professional ripoff artists right here. They'll assign any fees or charges they can and when you have to pay with a credit card they charge a "convenience" fees of $30 and up to any payment you have to make, as if you're not already paying tons to attend. That $100 "graduation" fee when you reach your "credit cap" -whether you graduate or not- is absolute highway robbery. It's part of your job, just do it! Maybe respect the students that pay your cushy salary job and quit finding ways to add more fees. Parking is a joke and they NEVER do anything to resolve it. Prepare to have their hand in your wallet for the entirety of your college career and as long as they can afterwards. Office staff is continually rude and unhelpful. No one genuinely cares about the students attending here. Nothing but thieves. 10/10 would NEVER recommend.

Excellent University. Be aware- it is a commuter school, so ~50% of students go home on weekends.

BEWARE OF UW-STOUT or any college within the University of Wisconsin system! I withdrew from the online graduate program due to a medical issue during the withdrawal period. UW-Stout charged me $3,000 without written notice until I received a letter 1 year later from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Apparently, UW-Stout turn outstanding student balances over to the Dept of Revenue in order to collect the debt as a tax so they can garnish your income tax refund (or wages) if you cannot afford a payment plan. How is this legal?

To put it short I graduated from stout and enjoyed my time. Has the feel of a small town and school once u get to know everyone. Could write a whole report on what is good and what could be improved but overall a great choice.

I had an amazing experience at uw-stout. I started as a freshman in 2010 and I graduated in May 2015. my major was human development and family studies. I absolutely loved my teachers and I love the library haha was kind of such a nerd but I was also really good in school. and I love the laptop program and the renting the books program as a part of your tuition. The ask 5000 technology help desk was always such a huge help. I thought the Greek life was at least a "B" even though it's not a very big school, and that was a fun way to meet lots of people.

Stout is a crocked school that only goes for the money. If you are late on your laptop, they will charge you $500, If you leave their school, they will charge you double tuition for one semester. Then they will send the bill to collections before you can challenge the amount or even challenge having gone for that semester. If I where you, I would go outside of Wisconsin and save yourself..

Nice and compact campus with plenty of scattered recreational options and close classroom buildings. Excellent workout facilities and restaurants.

For adult distance learners, there aren't many better institutions of higher learning than UW Stout. From the academic advisors, the veterans advisors to the professors - this school is amazing. I learned, grew and graduated thanks to UW Stout. Big enough campus to give a world perspective, small enough that you can know just about everyone.

I honestly just want my degree and needed an online program. The Online Program takes a backseat to in-class learning though. Syllabuses are always outdated or copied from in class courses. I usually get the syllabus and then update my calendar only to find out the dates have changed. pretty annoying. It's obvious the professors are either really busy or lazy in adjusting their syllabuses for online learners. This is a public university and if you're paying for an education it should be better than that. Also, they use E-text books for half of my classes and that's a terrible idea. When you're trying to study or do homework it's annoying how you just can't flip directly to the page you want/need. They're trying to cut costs regardless of what they say. doing the homework through text book modules online are pretty annoying too. Sometimes classes are run outside of D2L and that is annoying. for example, one semester i had to use 3 different websites for my classes and D2L. Just keep everything on D2L considering we all have plenty of online accounts already. I only have one year of classes left so i am going to finish my program but prospective students should beware. The school needs to ensure the professors are doing their due diligence to provide accurate information to students in regards to homework. For working adults being able to plan out your month or schedule is vital and UW-stout doesn't help distance learners. Professors are helpful and respond quickly. Easy to talk with.

Graduated December 2012 after working for years and couldn't be happier. A shame some are disappointed with Stout, for me getting the classes I needed was not a problem. In my case many of the courses I took were online while for some of my courses I chose to attend. Again, for me the combination worked.

I am a transfer student from a community college. I have done all the paper work online to transfer to the UW-Stout for the "B.S. Degree in Information and Communication Technologies" The application process was Straight Forward, Simple, Fast and WithOut any COMPLICATION!!!. I am accepted for the program! I am super happy! My communication with the school has been done effectively via email. So far I can say that I love to be part of this school!

Faculty are friendly and understanding, and the online degree programs are excellent. Stout doesn't prioritize any degree programs as far as I know - you get to sign up for classes based on your seniority level. The more credit hours you have, the earlier you get to sign up for classes the following year. They have a VERY forgiving payment policy - you can actually withdrawal from class after the 1st day of coursework with no payment penalty, the last university I was at required 25% after day 1, 50% after week 2, 75% after week 3 and 100% after week 4. Courses are challenging and appropriate for the subject matter, although you do wind up with the occasional professor who feels that more homework=more learning, probably the same at any university though

Poor teachers, poor programs, not enough course offerings, and the online classes are poorly taught as well. Their customer service is terrible also. Go somewhere else.
