Definitely starting to grow on me as a current student. The one thing lacking which ultimately will eventually force me transfer out is a formal college of engineering. Staff I've delt with so far are excellent. Plenty of clubs and student organizations on campus. Lots of opportunities if you put in the effort. The city of Eau Claire is constantly growing and developing, and campus is 5 minutes from downtown. Free city bus service for all students is a huge plus. Premium meal plan is $1400, which equates to roughly $15 per day over the whole semester for unlimited access to all-you-can-eat buffet style dining at the hilltop center.

I got my bachelors in gaming here. Good university that doesn't oppress gamers.

Finding parking is awful and the whole campus always seems to be under construction whenever I come for events. UW Stout is a far better campus.

I am glad I picked this school; the town is quaint with an active community, people stay on the weekends and there is a lot to do, the price is low, and I have had great experiences with my professors. I was a biology major for my first year and a half, then I switched to education. In both fields I had some wonderful professors, some who I still maintain a good professor-to-student relationship. The school is very well-rounded with many opportunities to get involved. I enjoyed intramurals, on-campus clubs, and met people and learned about others by going to events and taking advantage of the unorganized fun things to be found around Eau Claire if you explore a little bit.

Pretty good, difficult to find parking and the food is also mediocre at best.

University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire is one of the most beautiful campuses in the UW system! Eau Claire is an artsy, green, friendly, and active community of people. I adore this university and all it has to offer for students. I have had wonderful professors and enjoyed living both on and off campus. There are tons of organizations and clubs to get involved in. This is truly a liberal arts college and it is nice having a variety of different cultures and backgrounds. I would recommend this university to anybody and know it will only grow and welcome more students as time passes!

It's a good university in a decent town. Graduating from here, I did get an excellent job out of state and second job in state. The campus is beautiful along the river and the staff is excellent. I would recommend going here for a good degree.

John Neman

A pretty good school location in mid-size city. The staff is professional, friendly and the education is decent for an UW school. I would recommend coming here because the size, location and the job I received out of college was great. Also, the landscape and area is so pretty all year around.

Realistic Review: Let me start by saying that, having attended and graduated from UW Oshkosh, this school IS academically difficult. I am an education major in my last semester on campus. Classes are tough, don't let the reviews fool you. Second, all the reviews calling Eau Claire a "hick town" are total BS. It is a Wisconsin city, with a somewhat smaller town feel. There are not people walking around in camouflage or orange jumpsuits like they just left the tree stand. Give me a break. It is a city of younger, hard working people, trying to make a living. The downtown is friendly and upbeat, great work young people and new families. Lots of parks and walking trails help to show off this beautiful city and her waterways. Lastly, on the quality of non-academics of UWEC: The dorms are average, the food quality is average, and the services provide are exceptionally average. But my point stands at this - Are you attended college because you want a solid, academically rigorous challenge, ending in a life altering degree reception? Or are you here to make friends and flourish as a self-actualized adult? Because both will occur if you attend UWEC.

As a sophomore just finished up my first year as a Blugold I honestly look forward to transferring after next school year. I wouldn't say that my experience has been bad here by any means, but this school is definitely not for me. Because of intense budget cuts, there is no push to graduate in four years and the class sizes and availability are ridiculously small. Their credit transfer cheated me out of 16 additional credits I had taken through a technical college closer to home. I plan on graduating with my Associate's degree at the end of next school year and transferring out of the University of Wisconsin system entirely. This school is a huge party school, which is why I say it isn't for me. The campus outreach programs, such as Cru, seem clique-ish and unwelcoming aside from a few girls who had reached out to me in the beginning of the year. The dorm life has been the best part of my experience here because of the community we form within our wings.

Great! Loved my experience here!

I love going to school here! They made my transfer process easy and accepted more credits than I expected. My advisor has been amazing, my department is outstanding, and I haven't had an issue with any faculty to date. I wish people knew how many resources are available on campus, I wish I had them at the first college I went to! They do all they can (with the cards they're dealt) to improve the experience of their students. College is NOT cheap, but I feel like I get my money's worth here. having multiple sources of coffee on campus is amazing! Some of the buildings aren't as great as the others, but I guess that's to be expected with a campus that's been here for 100 years. The constant construction gets pretty annoying, but luckily it doesn't interfere with my day too much. The campus is beautiful, making those long walks not SO unbearable. What I don't like is how spread out the campus is. There's really 3 sections of campus, and when you only have 10mins to get from up the hill to the water street buildings, it feels just about impossible! Also, the updates in some buildings are way over the top when some of the older buildings actually need basic renovations. HAAS and HSS don't have accessible or gender neutral bathrooms, or enough stalls in either building, yet Davies has 30 stalls on their upper floor that's hardly used.

Good school for a good price, I'd choose it again.

Awful for transfer students. I came from a community college, and the transfer counselor said my credits would transfer one way, then "whoops" 14 of them didn't. Professors do NOT care about you and some are downright psychotic. I had one professor screw up a final grade by 3 letters, and then wouldn't answer emails or phone calls. I had to take it to the chair of the department-who changed my grade to a B but still wouldn't give me the grade I earned (an A) and refused to explain himself. My advisor misadvised me and told me to take 2 classes I literally didn't need. Not for GE's or anything. Nor did he tell me about the degree audit until it was too late for me to get into the classes I actually did need. This is a good school if you have absolutely no credit earned coming in, aren't a science major, like to party, and are okay being in a city where there's nothing to do. Everybody goes home on the weekends. So excited to be transferring out.

People spent a long time ragging on professors as crazy in other comments, but they have a doctorate in most cases for a reason and just because their ideologies do not agree with your own is not enough justification to call a person crazy unless you are uneducated yourself. With a critical and positive perspective a lot of the professors offer interesting perspectives and are willing to help you greatly if you actually engage them rather than scoffing at their thoughts. The nature of the area is also beautiful and we have a few new buildings in Centennial and the Davies' center that are pretty swaggy. More collaboration between the school and the community would be nice, as the police often seem very into busting innocuous student parties, writing tickets, and from a known case of a friend, tackling drunk students.

Outside of West Central Wisconsin, UWEC degrees don't go very far with employers. I don't care what the liars in the marketing department say about this school being "world class", because it simply IS NOT! UWEC just doesn't hold a candle in the hiring process when you're stacking up against better, more well know colleges. The campus environment is very conservative and unfriendly, especially towards gays, artists, and minorities. The student body is comprised of hicks from small towns and brats from the Minneapolis area. This school's reputation is based on lies and B.S. testimony from delusional graduates. Eau Claire as a city is unfriendly, extremely cold, boring, and has a terrible job market; it's just a gigantic hick city! On a final note, the campus affiliated land lords are sleaze ball criminals of epic proportions!

Nickie

Food's disgusting, dorms are disgusting, the only really good thing is the other students. Some professors are okay, but the majority are either crazy or don't care. I came to this school because I didn't want to go to a big school. I feel like this school is just trying to play catch up with Madison or the UMTC. I've had multiple professors not show up for the office hours they schedule and for appointments. Advisors will do whatever they can to encourage students to take the wrong classes in an effort to get more money and keep students in school longer. So far, disappointed in my experience as a blugold. I was a transfer student, hoping for a biology major. Turns out, they will not accept classes like "microbiology" and "anatomy and physiology" for the BIOLOGY major. Transfers, don't waste your money here.

This campus is full of people who work hard and think about their students. I taught several years at a large research school, where undergraduates are largely burned as fuel for graduate programs. UWEC is the farthest thing from this. I see most faculty members constantly meeting with students, preparing lessons, organizing student research projects, and grading. I'm glad to work with these people.

This rating is a generous one because Google Reviews does not allow me to submit a zero star review. The rejection of my humanity at this institution has been isolating, alienating and, ultimately, has left me dejected. Sadly, I think I spent more time addressing the problems here and jumping through bureaucratic hoops than being a student. The environment is oppressing. I am shamefully disappointed in many of the faculty, administration and staff employed there. There is a tremendous amount of ignorance and bigotry hiding behind PhD's and doctorates. They are patronizing at best and lack the ability to connect with students. Although the marketing and PR department would like to make you think otherwise, this is not a safe place for minorities. If you are different in any way, you will most likely experience difficulties at this institution. I cannot think of anything I regret more in my life thus far than attending ~the university of wisconsin - eau claire~ (I accidentally chose to go here by process of elimination and the attraction of lower admission costs compared to other schools I applied to.) If you value your self-esteem, critical thinking or creativity (among an exhaustive list of many other characteristics, traits and abilities. . .) DO NOT APPLY OR ATTEND THIS INSTITUTION. If you need help navigating any institutional bullshit, please do not hesitate to contact me. The few good souls at that institution are not enough to make up for all the evil and structural violence that thrives there. The city and community is it's only shot at redemption. Find your pockets of love.

If you have any kind of disability, please do NOT go here. I'm almost done with my 4 years here, and this place made me more depressed than anything else in my life. The administration was mostly the problem for me. The disrespect and discrimination I faced was deplorable but, I'm my opinion, it seemed acceptable for this place. No one should ever be treated the way I have been, please look elsewhere.
