Durn Hooligans

This school is a joke. My girlfriend currently attends NU. From what I have seen of the place, the people, and the education. It is a disaster. Now keep in mind, my girlfriend works a job, goes to school, and comes home to do her homework. She is a living ball of stress. So when she has to miss a "chapel," session because she has been assaulted with assignments from every single one of her classes, the people who run this place are kind enough to charge her $500 for all the chapel sessions she HAD to miss if she was to do her assignments and pass her classes. I get that this place is a Christian school, but church should never be mandatory. There is a time and place for it. Certainly not in the middle of the week when people are neck deep in assignments from their professors. They also over charge the life out of you for tuition from what I can tell. This place just seems like an extra expensive community college. Some of the professors are also very lazy, unhelpful, and very unsympathetic. A lot of the people that attend are pompous rich kids that have never worked a day in their lives, the kind of "mommy and daddy bought me a brand new BMW," rich kids. There are a few good people in this place, but very few. Overall, the cons definitely outweigh the pros here. You're a lot better off finding a school that offers a flexible schedule, doesn't make you pay extra for something trivial like Church, and has a more friendly environment.

Financial aid department and especially NU housing department is a NIGHTMARE. Profs/ class sizes are great. Chapel is pretty bad and SUPER clique-y. Basically if you're not in some sort of leadership or a worship team you don't exist.

I am sad to be writing this review because I had so much hope and excitement when transferring to this university. This is one of the poorest reviews I've ever written. I came as a late transfer student and they did everything to help me get in (in other words, get me in quickly to helped their attendance rates and finances). Once the classes started, everything went downhill. I found out they weren't giving me any of the aid I was eligible for and were trying to charge me 27k for a low grade institute that resembles a community college. The dorm rooms were a nightmare! The smell of mildew was overpowering, the showers were clogged with hair every time, the bathroom toilets had calcium build up on and near the handles, there were no ramps anywhere on campus for the handicapped, needs plenty of updates on technology, the meals were not fulfilling and I left hungry each time. The professors are dull and I found myself falling asleep, one professor wouldn't let me use my laptop even though I was involved in a nasty car accident the day of move-in and was unable to see the power point to take notes without my glasses, the students weren't welcoming and the community as a whole wasn't either, I sat alone at tables unless I saw others sitting alone I would go sit by them. The school is unaffordable and shouldn't hold the title of private and higher education with what they have to offer students. Check out Saint Martin's University in Lacey. Absolutely nurished in every way possible and has SO much to offer for the students.

Excellent people and community but not worth the tuition they charge. If you are going to be in ministry than this place is for you. If you are majoring in science steer as far away as possible (or rather any major besides ministry) because this school's science program is a joke. Also stay away unless you are very comfortable having everyone in your business calling you a blasphemer for the slightest mistake. I am reserved in my faith but and nothing but people shoving religion and the bible down my throat. I will not ever consider giving this place a second chance and would rather spend my money at a community college because at least I would get a real education.

Had a graduate school interview with this school, and the two male professors who interviewed me from the psychology department came across as very sexist and condescending. Find a school that respects you, ladies. I would never recommend this school. I withdrew my application.

Great, welcoming environment and school; feels like a family away from family and a home away from home. A couple grievances though: 1. While I understand they are a very community oriented school, I don't think that we should have to apply to live OFF campus. I find it a bit peculiar and a bit frustrating that you are required to live on campus, especially considering it's hard for first year students to get into the apartments, and how expensive the residence halls are. 2. I know it's a Christian school, I find it frustrating that you are required to get a certain amount of spiritual life credits, and you are charged for not obtaining all of them. I think chapel should be enough to get these and you should be able to get them waived if you serve at church, especially considering one can get busy with work/school and may not have time. But other than that I love this school, the faculty and professors are amazing and the students are all so welcoming.

I enjoyed my time at NU as a graduate student in the MBA program. While I may not have had the traditional experience most graduate students, would envision when considering whether or not to apply, I did learn a lot. I truly believe that I got out of the program what I put into it. I also can't say enough kind things about the faculty and the Dean of the School of Business and Management, Dr. Teresa Gillespie. Please don't let the fact that Northwest University is a Christian institution deter you from applying at the graduate level if you aren't Christian. I had a rough time with the Christian faith before coming to NU, the church I attended (Mt. Zion) went through a very tough split, and I literally witnessed two members of the church being held back from getting into a physical altercation at our annual meeting. While they say not to let something like that get in the way of developing a personal relationship with god, it certainly affected the way I look at things. Due to my experience at Mt. Zion, I decided to become a Unitarian Universalist and one of the most beautiful things about Northwest University was that they accepted me for who I was, without preaching or trying to convert me (That goes for the student body as well). Instead I was challenged academically, which is exactly what I wanted. The MBA courses at Northwest University were not easy, they required us to make a significant commitment to learning about the different aspects of business and management. While the courses met once a week, we usually turned in at least two or three assignments every time we met. This was in conjunction with forum posts and a full-time schedule at work. Given that the program is fast-paced and you only have eight weeks to complete your assignments, I would say the best thing to do if you fall behind is to speak with your professor, they can usually help you put together a plan to get back on track. -----///////////////// I'm saddened by the fact that I had to edit my review, but I've concluded that it's necessary. After receiving my MBA I went on to pursue a Doctorate in Business Administration at City University of Seattle and after personally contacting Northwest University and applying online I was told I couldn't teach in the School of Business and Mamagement because I am a Unitarian Universalist. It's 2017 and about time people of all faiths learned to coexist!

I have never written a Google review in my life and I am sad to say that the first one I have to write isn't what I was hoping and of all places, Northwest University. I am an online student with Northwest and I have to say that I couldn't wait another day to get started in earning my degree with them. The idea is to allow those who work and have families to be able to make earning their degree possible. I began my studies full time as well as working 40 hours per week. It was stimulating, my grades were great and I was really enjoying it until it gradually became challenging. Not challenging to a point of the area of study being difficult, but the load that they claimed was designed for people in my situation (people with busy obligated lifestyles), was certainly not appearing that way. My mother became terminally ill around the same time.While caring for her and keeping my job I had to withdrawal from my courses temporarily. I registered again just a few months later as I had help with my mother-but unfortunately it only got worse and I was back in the same situation I was to begin with. Again I was withdrawn from my courses, I told my academic adviser that I want to go to part-time so I can actually dedicated the appropriate time to my studies and retain the information. As of now there is balance owed on my account, which is quite confusing to me for someone who is receiving financial aid and had taken out all loans in order to cover this education. All I want to do is move forward with my education and get this resolved. I have made several attempts via email and phone calls with many messages to try and contact just ANYONE in the financial aid/student account office for months! Just two weeks ago finally someone answered my call and didn't sound too enthused to hear it was me. I am discovering that I am simply just being ignored, written off and put to the side and this is not okay. All I want to do is to continue to pursue my education like anyone else at NU, but they are not even giving me the time of day, it's actually very strange how this whole thing is being handled. Professors have all been amazing and very supportive of my situation and was always willing to work with me. As far as the financial aid dept and the student accounts office I have to say the complete opposite. At the cost of the tuition of this school you would think that I certainly wouldn't be running back to them to try my best to get started again after all of this. I have had enough, I am looking outside to transfer my education at this point. To new students at NU-the best of luck to you.

I went here from 2012-14 and it's a joke. I'm physically disabled, and was told by staff and students here that my situation is "no big deal" and that I should consider other peoples situations. Rude, unchristian, disturbing school. I can't tell you how many times I was told that my disability is fake and that the married students are far more disabled than me just because they're married? No, no and no. Marriage is not a disability.

Awesome experience! Met an administrator at a career fair which got the daughter interested, went to tour the college, saw the same admin, gave her a personalized card for her birthday (that's when we went) and she loved the campus!

Ive been attending NU for about two years now and I love it. Its a great school with a very inclusive atmosphere. It is an Assemblies of God school, but I'm not AG by any stretch of the imagination and I've always felt at home here. I was a little surprised by Jcampbell2's review because it runs contrary to everything that I have seen over the last two years.
