REVIEWS OF Vermont Technical College IN Vermont

The upside to this school, great enthusiastic professors when I was there. I got a good, solid education. The downside, it's in the middle of nowhere and things tend to be quite dead on the weekends. However I think that worked to my benefit as, if I had gone to a larger school in a major city, I would have partied myself right out of it and into a minimum wage job.

Went to visit with daughter —-people were rude and weird. Strange place—

My daughter applied to almost 10 colleges nationwide. She was accepted to her top choice college in Connecticut and thus will be attending college there . I had to write a review for Vermont Technical College because I have yet to encounter a more unprofessional college admissions department or admissions system to date! The admissions department of this college is a total and complete disorganized and unprofessional mess. It took many emails to get simple answers from the staff, they all had different answers to very basic questions, the respond emails were riddled with misspellings and grammar errors, the "wait list letter" my daughter received came both not even sealed shut and also signed with a marker! When I asked what number she was on the so called "wait list" they said that they don't do it that way and that they just have a general "pool" of applicants that didn't get accepted that they call a wait list. Just terrible. An embarrassment to all Vermont State colleges!

This college is just another community college, they state that they are high tech and offer teachers that are experts in there field. What you get is teachers that may be educated in their fields have no clue how to teach and or outright don't want too. There is nothing to do on campus and there is a small town of a few hundred near by so it offers nothing. The school also overloads students with as much as 20 credits a semester (12 is considered full time). Extra classes like basic computers skills which students already have from high school. The electronic and civil programs are horribly outdated and are not high tech. Vtc brags about working with IBM in Burlington, but IBM has a skeleton crew there and has taken those jobs over seas. One a good note the math department is excellent. They do offer tutoring which helps, and the food and dorms are really basic but tolerable except for noise at night. I know one girl who left after her first semester do to "not feeling safe after hours". I haven't seen any violence but have heard of some, so on that note I think it is a problem. Most of the programs are ok at best but not good or great. If you are looking into this school keep in mind that Norwich university is close by and offers full bachelors in things like civil and mechanical where VTC only offers associates. University of Vermont is located in Burlington and has everything a student would want as well as parents. Plus there are many many other schools that are much better. If you want a basic community college and live close by and don't mind basic this place is for you. Lastly the noise level in the dorms can be horrible depending on which security guard is working. Some nights you cannot sleep or study because of the noise. Locals come to the school to "Party" with the college kids and it is terribly annoying. There is nothing for the VTC students to do so most of them turn to partying or going off campus and looking for "fun" that usually winds up meaning trouble. This is just one students opinion and I was upset with what the web site bragged about and the campus is pretty but after two semesters I have found this place to be a lie compared to what it says on the literature, tour and website. So I rank this school as a big zero and VTC really needs to concentrate on students after hours and updating all of the programs to be at least on par with other local schools. This is my last semester at VTC because I do not want to waste my parents money and I am moving on to a professional school.--
