Nice area and weather. Student life is great and I love my professors. It's got very low tuition rates too! Consider Dixie!

I am a big Pokemon Go player. The campus has a ton of stops and gyms located around the entire campus. Its a great way for me to get my steps in for the day. Plus because of my work schedule I end up going late at night. I see the campus security throughout my visit. But I've never been hassled about being there late, and its always well lit. Also Its very clean.

The school currently has a shady president that fires the best and most tenured professors to save his own butt. Who wants to go a school that has a presidency you don't even trust? Think carefully about attending this school...

I love this school! I just finished my second semester and the campus environment is awesome, but what's most important and what makes Dixie truly awesome is the people! The administrators and professors are top notch, I have got help from the people in the housing office, career center, student advising, and the psychology department and every single person has been so helpful and has guided me in my best direction in a way that I understand, I have yet to have a bad professor as well! I'm also glad Dixie is revising there polices on free speech :) -Forrest Gee

This school is a complete and utter joke. Absolutely ridiculous. First, my husband signed up for classes for the 2015 Fall semester. However, when we found out we weren't going to afford it, he never went. There was a new policy going out saying if you hadn't paid, your classes were dropped. Easy enough, right? Plain and simple? Wrong! When my husband went to apply for the 2016 Spring semester, all hell broke loose. They told him he owed them for the 2015 Fall semester... You know, the semester his classes got dropped? Apparently this had happened to quite a few more students as well. Dixie University was to hold a "hearing" for the students who signed up for the 2015 Fall semester and had their classes dropped because they couldn't pay for it. Dixie told my husband that he would hear back from them after the 26th of December whether he would still have to pay for the Fall semester or not. Well the 26th passed by. So did the 27th, 28th, 29th, so on. Nothing. My husband went in after the 1st of January to find out anything and they had told him they still didn't come to any conclusions yet and that they'd let him know next week. HA! Lies. He went in the following week and the answer was still the same. On January 11th, I believe it was... You know, the first day of school? He received a letter in the mail (that was dated DECEMBER 18th, mind you... a week before they said he would get the answer..the first time..) stating that his petition to drop classes for Fall 2015 had been approved. Well jee, Dixie, thanks for letting us know the day school started instead of the actual day you told him you would know. But that's not all! Today, February 19th, we receive a letter in the mail saying that he owes $2360 for the Fall 2015 semester... The semester you confirmed was dropped. The semester where he had to go to every teacher and get a signed document saying he never attended classes. I may be wrong. Please correct me if I am. I haven't been to school in 2 years. But when the school sends you a letter saying you're in the clear and then contradicts itself saying you owe them money... I find this school to be unsure of it's own self. Teachers here are brilliant though! At least when I attended 2 years ago! That's why I'm giving it two stars, because I loved my teachers. But the Administrative services here.. Jokes. If you can get past the Administrative offices and the sort, you're on your way to victory. Don't get fooled by them. They're little sneaks for sure!

Beautiful campus. They provide good Concurrent Enrollment classes to surrounding High Schools.

I want to be fair to this college so I’m going to say positive before anything else. The campus is stunning and the clock tower is amazing. A beautiful place to go to school. Cheap tuition and good class sizes so you will for sure get one on one time with professors. Now, this school is not for you if you don’t like small towns or the Mormon religion. The campus itself has a diverse population but outside of the campus the town is super white and Mormon. Not to mention way older since it’s a warmer place for older people to go down to in the fall. Maybe the school itself is not terrible but the community itself is not my favorite. Defiantly felt isolated, even living on campus. The Nissan dorms also need to fix their water problems. People pay a fair amount of money to live in them, the water should not come out brown when you first use the pipes after a while. There are no kitchens so that water is the main source of water for most college students living in that space. Hopefully in the future they fix some of those problems and create a better place for all types of people going to their college.

I feel frustrated by my experience at Dixie State University. My freshman year in the theatre department was filled with canceled classes due to court appearances for my professors and classmates to defend the (proven) innocent and drama in the administration. 3 of the most influential tenured professors have been terminated and investigations over the past 4 years have left the school untrustworthy. The bad mouthing of my professors from the administration left me with shambling grades and anxiety about entering what should have been my place of learning. As a theatre education major, I have been taught every way not to lead a department. These experiences are what lead me to not be able to recommend this institution.

DSU is the best school in Utah!!! Not only are professors helpful and brilliant, but social activities are amazing. Students from all over the state and surrounding states come to some of the more popular dances and concerts. Some of theses events are the Foam Dance, Dixie Rebel Night, and concerts such as Macklemore and Yellowcard who bring MTV recording studios.

I went to this school as well as BYU-Idaho and have to say this school was far superior in regards to their CIT & CS degrees. Its not a perfect place by any means, and their mascot choices have been totally ridiculous lately, but its a nice small town school that provides a university education for pretty cheap.

Good school that has come a long ways over the last decade. You won't find a university for a better price with better weather. Small class sizes are a plus.

#somethingsstinksatDSU. This recent scandal involving Houser and Williams is an absolute disgrace to the university and the community. Biff Williams should resign.

I have never experienced a community of people that are so money hungry. I literally bought books from the book store in the condition they were in. I dropped the classes never touched the books tried to sell them and they wouldn't take them. I was there for two years and I was so fed up with them that I transferred to another school. The counselors don't try to help you graduate and sign you up for classes you have no interest in. They are condescending and difficult to work with. The campus is wonderful and the teachers are pretty decent. Besides the school everything else is a complete joke and if you park somewhere for 40 minutes you WILL get a parking ticket. They don't have sororities or fraternities because they are going for the "non-partying" look. But honestly college kids still find a way to drink and still do party regardless. They seem to be very LDS oriented. So if you want to acquire several misdemeanors and jail time go to this school. Even if you don't drink or do illegal things the cops will still try to give you tickets for being around underage people even if you are of age. St. George Utah is a joke of a city. They just want money and the whole town to convert to the LDS religion.

Do NOT use their VITA tax return service. They will royally screw you over by not actually submitting it.

From my experience working with the staff, they go by protocol and are very professional. I have been going to school for over a year now and really have no complaints. There are certainly professors that I don't agree with but I hardly believe that substantiates a low rating. Good school with low cost. That's a 5 star rating in my book.

Skyler Madison

This school is full of morons. I can call and ask a simple question 20 times and get sent on wild goose chases and get a lot of "I don't know" from the people who are supposed to know at least something... it is a school after all. And so you can try going in and asking questions in person and you'll wind up going from building to building looking for someone that knows the answer to simple freaking questions. And instead of ever actually looking up an answer, they'll send you to random places on their web site, like their "contact us" section. Which will have NOTHING to do with your original question and then they'll keep fixating ol their LITTERALLY WORTHLESS website, telling you the answers to your question is on there SOMEWHERE when it's NOT because you've read every page of their damn website several times and your question stild hasn't been answered by... I guess what should be considered a professional staff. I would go to Dixie State College but I don't think anyone there is qualified to grade my papers.

Grant Nordine

Dixie State’s current president is mad with power. He has sensored the student body and terminitated tenured professors for no good or sustainable reason. It has already been proben in a court of law that the first professor he terminated was done unjustly but he has not allowed this professor to be rehired. Two other professors rightfully shared their opinions on the matter and have been terminated as well. If you are an creative arts student considering applying here, don’t bother. Your talent will be better served elsewhere.

Pat Gomes

The campus is so beautiful and the town around it is almost idyllic! It's a great vibe surrounding the whole area!

Travis Ridd

Low cost. Great campus community. This university is growing quickly so there is always new things coming to campus. The campus is city locked, being located downtown, but because of this it is more centralized.

Dixie State is a pretty good school. The class sizes are on the small side compared to some of the state schools and the facilities are improving rapidly. Each year they are improving the curriculum and increasing the amount of graduate degrees that they offer. The makeup of the students is not very diverse. Overall this is a good school though and the education is quality.

Some of the Full-time facility here are great. Most of the adjuncts are not. The recent events of Dixie have motivated me to write a review but not the sole factor as to why I am giving Dixie 2 stars. I have throughout my education at Dixie had maybe 5 professors that I have felt knew how to actually teach and educate college students. Most of the time the adjunct teachers don't prepare their lessons and show up and have the students teach the class under pretense of presentations. I have had multiple experiences where the teacher didn't know what was coming up on the next slide and taught the class the wrong information. I would encourage the administration at Dixie to take a hard look at who they hire and terminate and decide what direction they would like to take Dixie. As of right now though I will not recommend Dixie to anyone.

This educational facility’s policies absolutely disgust me. Talk about theft! They recently added a policy to ONLY RETURN 50% of what you paid for a course! If that’s not criminal then I don’t know what is! And everyone knows about the overpriced supplies sold at the book store here. After such theft no wonder why many people think higher education should be free. The injustice that goes on will be dealt with one day! To whoever it may concern: I challenge you to rise up and join the ranks for a better future!

*NOTE: The University deleted my first review so I'm re-uploading my review. Shame on the university for stifling my free speech.* I once considered going here. How glad I am that I didn't end up going. I've seen nothing of significant substance that would justify firing and aggressively prosecuting tenured professors. I can completely affirm that DSU will NEVER be a school I attend for any sort of higher learning. You learn so much more based off people's actions than thier words and this institution has time and time again proven itself to be a cesspool that seeks to stifle anyone that disagrees with its leadership. Dr. Webb and Peterson, from what I was able to gather from articles and testimonials from former students, were men of admirable character. Firing them only affirms that President Biff (president of DSU) is not interested in diversity of opinion and does not have the interests of students at heart. It seems to me that he would rather create a dictatorship of yes men around him. I hope Biff enjoys running his University into the ground; I'll be laughing and watching from an actual university where they actually care about thier professors and students.

This has been a great school over the years, the community has benefited from having a growing University. Facilities have been wonderful to work with.

I started in 2013 and had a number of great professors with great classes for a few years and then the firings started. I ended up taking all my marketing courses from business statistics professors because administration fired the professors or forced them to quit with no regard for students. Half of my courses are taught by adjuncts or new professors now, so we're all guinea pig classes for them; I can only imagine what music is going through with half their senior faculty gone and no one to replace them. My classes are not the same as they were and I miss the more experienced faculty that are gone because of this administration. I'll be pursuing my degrees elsewhere with a more stable environment.

Elijah Blake

Such a great school! All of the professors I have had are very happy to be here and be teaching. The tuition is very affordable compared to others. The student alumni puts on great activities to keep things fun and interresting. There is a lot to do recreationally in this area if you are the type that enjoys the outdoors.

Jenny Sanders

This campus which is now DIXIE UNIVERSITY not only changed classification status (College to University) it has both matured & improved internally & externally! They've added a number of new programs & courses alongside the expansion of services & on campus housing/apartments now available to students. The tennis courts that once filled the southwest side have been torn down to make more room for student parking. It's a great investment they've made for students AND for the surrounding community.

I typically do not leave negative reviews. In fact I think this will only be my third one star review ever. I was a part time student at Dixie for a few years. In that time any time I needed assistance with anything it was a huge headache. It feels like none of the staff at Dixie is interested in your success, or in doing their jobs. They pick and choose which students which policies apply to, and it also depends on which academic advisor you have. I was one class away from getting my associates degree, but thanks to the lack of assistance and willingness to assist me I transfered everything to SUU, and will now be pursuing my degree there. Dixie State fails to inform students that certain tests and scores only last for two years. Then you have to retake the placement test, and possibly repeat classes you have already passed and paid for. The difference in customer service from Dixie to SUU is astonishing. I have spoken with SUU multiple times in multiple departments and have not once been treated the way I was my entire time at Dixie state. I will never, ever recommend this "university" to anyone. They may be a university now, but you would not know it when dealing with the staff here. When you call on the phone they are more interested in outside conversations and texting (which I could hear them doing while they had me on a very long, silent hold). The academic advisement office is a special kind of hell to deal with, and they have no interest whatsoever in their students actually being able to graduate. It's no wonder they have a 50% graduation rate. I highly recommend looking into a more reputable university. The savings is not worth the hassle and lack of respect you will receive here. My last visit to their academic advisors office was just the last straw after being treated poorly the entire time I attended school there. I'm not one who is normally negative, or difficult to deal with either. I'm not someone who complains about everything, but in their case there was very little silver lining. I had a couple of professors that genuinely cared, but that was it. If you do decide to go here make sure you are up to date on all of their policies as they will not advise you of them up front, and certainly won't make an exception unless you're one of the people they decide they will make exceptions for. I guess I didn't bring in enough money for that. Dixie State is the worst, and I'm so happy to not have to deal with them ever again. ✌️

I started my education at Dixie State in 2012. I watched as the Holland building was built, the mascot was changed, and got to advocate for the funding for the Human Performance Center. I remember when the clock tower was placed on the encampment mall to be a reminder of the once Dixie Academy and the old Dixie songs. From the moment I stepped on the campus I knew it was special, and cried when I received my jar of red sand at graduation. (The jar states to put “one half teaspoon in shoes twice a week” when you are missing Dixie) I have watched the school go through positive, impactful, change. I have felt the Dixie Spirit from the administration, faculty, and staff that I felt were all very invested in my future success. I am proud to be a Dixie State Alumni, and I know you will feel the same way should you choose to attend.

The only thing I ever had to worry about was parking and Dixie can't pretend there isn't a problem. Only way to get a spot was to show up 15-20 minutes before my classes.

Two of our daughters have attended DSU. We have been very pleased with the professors and the quality of education that they have and are receiving here. If you work hard, you will be rewarded with scholarships and other great opportunities. It's up to the student. DSU is very generous as compared to other larger schools and that's one main reason we chose DSU. Small classrooms, best tuition in the state, one on one attention and small town feel are other huge attractions. Students are not lost, they feel connected and excel here. I hope it stays this way.

I have been living in Southern Utah since high school and have watched this institution transfer from a school that takes everyone, to a premier university with excellent programs and traditions. It is no longer a "party school," but has been transformed with renovations, the addition of new programs, and hands-on care to a superb school. The class sizes are small and personable, the weather is perfect, the activities please both the single and family students, and St. George has more recreation than anywhere else. I highly recommend this school.

The Stay Apartments

The University has been great to work with us in helping students find quality housing. Being right across the street we have had great help from the DSUPD in maintaining a safe living environment for our tenants.

Breck Greenwall

I've been a student at Dixie State University for 3 years now, and I have heard the same complaints as you see on this page. I have also heard that it was mostly a party school. It had that reputation for quite some time. However, here in 2013, with the completion of the Holland building, the acquiring of more and more programs, and the transition to university status has shown that Dixie desired something better. I have enjoyed my education here, and while not all the professors have been pleasant, I feel educated in the subjects that I have taken. Awesome weather, reasonable tuition, little traffic (relatively speaking), enough parking space, and competent staff equals an excellent educational experience here in St. George.

I attended DSU from 2011-2015, while there I received two degrees, psychology, and theatre. From my senior year onward I have watched the University make choices that completely undermine policy, and destroy an entire department. I used to encourage people to apply for Dixie, now I tell them to run for the hills because education has become so low on the priorities there. I'm very proud of the education I received while at Dixie State University, but what the administration has done makes me ashamed of Dixie State University. These men that have been fired are all powerful educators, men I respect and admire. Shame on President Williams, Shame on Mark Houser, Shame on all of those who have continued this witch hunt! Professors denying an incompetent professor tenure should be praised, not persecuted! Those willing to challenge their students to break out of their shells, and grow, should be celebrated, not destroyed. Those who started this fire will go down in the flames they created, and those they tried to burn will rise like a phoenix from the ashes. President Williams, this is not going away, you will be revealed for the pathetic administrator and bully you've been. Just wait, your time in the light will come, your fears of being caught will come true. ❤ The Uncrowned DQueen of Dixie!

Austin H

Most of there administration is a joke. They think there all that, and give you no help. "No" and "that's not possible" are their answers for most things. The teachers there however are pretty decent. Some are no good, but they do have some great professors. They just screwed over their social and public relations when they took away the slogan, almost the name, and the mascot for some stupid government program. Nothing there has changed from state to university. Good luck having a successful term there. Mostly a fly-by school. Most of the programs and courses are entry level and for beginners. Just high school all over again. They treat you like kids, and think you're all stupid. Unless your looking for an easy non-accredited collage to waste your time with, don't go here. :/ Sorry Dixie ... It's just how you run.

This rating doesn't reflect the collective university. I am saddened and disturbed by the current administrations dealings at DSU. First the firing of Davenport, now Ken Peterson and Glen Webb. These gentleman were all immensely valuable to the university. The actions of the current admin must be accounted for and their power kept in check.

Dan Lauper

This college occasionally felt like 60% college but it was an OK experience so far. However, there are flaws here and there that need to be fixed fast. Good start to flat-out college experiences, though.

I honestly would not go here again. The staff are amazing but the administration is horrible! The environment has been ruined. Avoid this place if you can.
