Any time I've had to deal with administration over credits, applications for scholarship/dorm/etc. something has been messed up and its a nightmare to fix. I wish the school cared less about sports and more about my major, and how we don't have much in the way of resources. The food was pretty bad when I had a meal plan but I've heard its getting better. My time in the LLC was pretty fun. My professors have been great. The library is great, except for the time they charged me $300 in overdue fees when I returned all my books on time, and I had to talk to 3 people before one finally looked for my books, which were all sitting on the shelves. Wish tuition wasn't going up. Literally anything that has to do with money or bureaucracy is a nightmare - when I dealt with Bursar's they give me eye rolls and sighs and act like I'm the biggest inconvenience because the classes I paid for and passed with A's aren't showing on my transcript and it's screwing me out of scholarships! I don't know where the university finds its employees. But I absolutely loved my program and my professors! I just hate that my school is run like a for-profit business!!!

Stayed here while in the area on business. Have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inns. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaraunt is closed 2 days per week so not nearly as convenient. Food was nothing special. Would think they would have something for local cuisine but nothing at all. Can't be to picky either do to the very small menu. No laundry in the building, across the street in another building. Outside trash cans were typically overflowing and cigarette butts everywhere. With the number of hotels in the area I will be staying somewhere else my next trip here.

Don't expect any sort of help from any staff. They are all incompetent and useless. Even if you apply several months ahead, it will take them up until the deadline to try to sort everything out. It takes days or even weeks to get a reply. Admissions will misinform you time and time again. Complete waste of time.

I was able to come back after I had to take a year off. My advisor helped me reschedule my classes. My teachers taught very well. Also, Memphis is a little bit of a racist city, however I did not experience any racism at the U of M. I'll be graduating with the c/o 2016 baby !!!!!!.... Go Me !

It's nice though it does have some cons to go along with all the pros, but overall it's great!

I would like my studies to start as a Senator studies. What is the yearly price. What is the handicapped friendly?

Advisors are slow to respond to emails, ya have to contact advisors a week in advance to schedule something, rather than within a week regardless of deadlines. I am a transfer student and i have received a letter saying they have my records however when i sign for classes online it says i need prerequisites i have already taken and so i tried getting a permit but their permit site is down. the registration processs is more confusing than anything and is very fustrating. Also to reach somebody by phone you have to wait absolutely forever before you may get a hold of someone, it is rediculous.

Awesome Campus Day Experience for high school senior on September 26, 2015!!!!!

In regards to the library, it is a quiet place to study. The library is a clean space for anyone who enjoys reading, computer work and or just chilling by themselves. I come up here to study when I'm here for the summer. The campus itself is also beautiful, vastly improved over the past ten years.

Benjamin Winters

Was here in 1982 and I think fondly about that time 36 years ago. I really enjoyed eating at the restaurant on Walker back then and I also looked forward to a life of following my dreams. Thanks to all my professors.

Fallon Holland

This university has great courses online to finish your degree. With that being said, whatever you do, DONT take Professor Allison Graham. I am a 4.0 college student, and I received a D in her class- and am currently in the process of appealing it. Waiting on the the department chair to get back to me for two days now. She is an awful professor who gets great joy out of seeing her students fail. The highest grade in the class was a C. Wish I would have listened to the rate my professor reviews! Stay away from her class!!!!!!!!!!

Jaylynn Jacobs

I love this school so much

University of Memphis is a Daycare for adults! Teachers are underpaid and it reflects in their teaching abilities. Faculty couldn't careless about your wellbeing... The food is FAT and more FAT the students are beyond idiotic and you'll be lucky as a freshman not to get raped or impregnated. The campus police are just as likely to rape you as the student body is.. I pity the pour souls that attend this "school".. The easiest school in the country.. they don't care, and as terrible educators anyone with commonsense could graduate and then some... Enjoy your stay and don't go out after dark...

Great School, prions to be a tiger

The University of Memphis is a great urban University in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. It has grown and developed tremendously over the last 20 years. I am an alumnus with bachelor's and master's degrees in business. My father earned his EdD here, my wife (accounting) and one of my children (music) are also graduates, and I have two more children that will be seniors this year, one in child development and one in French. There are many notable alumni, including Brad Martin, the retired chairman of the board of Saks Incorporated, who could live anywhere in the world and chooses to live in Memphis, TN. My degrees from Memphis prepared me well and have served me well in my 28 year career in financial services. I still have close connections with some of my grad school professors, and I teach in the business college as an adjunct. We have many dedicated and deeply experienced faculty who truly care about their students. Like all organizations, not all employees are as strong or friendly or caring as others, but the majority of the people I have worked with and was taught by are excellent. Memphis has great facilities (getting better all the time), and a strong, diverse, and highly engaged student body. As with all higher education, you will get out of it what you put into it. My kids have all placed a high priority on their education (partly because we did, but also on their own) and as a result have done well academically and socially. They have been highly involved in campus life, including numerous academic, social, and professional student organizations. They have truly thrived and grown and matured here. I am proud to call the University of Memphis my alma matter.

I can't speak for everyone, but in the English Department, our chair Dr. Joshua Phillips did his doctoral work at the University of Chicago, Dr. Catherine Martin is one of the most respected Milton scholars in the world, and all our senior faculty have published books in their field. Dr. Cristina Cervone has done postdoctoral work at Harvard, and teaches a strong 14th Century class, while Dr. Jeff Scraba regularly publishes work dealing with the American frontier, and leads the Graduate Studies Program. Dr. John Miles did his PhD work at Duke, and teaches a powerful early American series. Dr. Darryl Domingo did his doctoral work at the University of Toronto, and engages students both undergraduate and graduate with an intense look at "18th Century Entertainment," showing how entertainment, as a concept for the modern era, was birthed at this moment in history.
