I received my undergraduate degree in Management here in 2008. I had such a positive experience, the professors are extremely knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make your learning experience beneficial. I received my Masters from Northeastern and the quality of education at UMB was extremely comparable.

Alot of construction going on. Non of the GPS updated the new route, so it might be a bit difficult to find where you are going if you don't know this place well. Food is overpriced. Faculty and staff are mostly nice. Good study enviroment.

UMASS Boston has a Beautiful campus on the waterfront! It is building two Brand new buildings as student housing with a dinning hall on the first floor, overlooking the Boston harbor with a million dollar view. UMASS Boston has a collaborative research program with Dana Farber Cancer Institute that students can be a part of. I love the new Integrated science center, incubating many New exciting NIH sponsored science research studies. It is an exciting time for UMASS Boston which has a new chancellor with generous scholarship. Chancellor merit scholarship will allow students to get world class education for free.

Beautiful Oceanside campus, nice staff, some teachers don’t fit my learning style, but that’s to be expected. Parking right now is a nightmare, but with new renovations on the way.

I am a student here at UMB, the professors are great. The administration is bureaucratic and inefficient and lacks transparency on any basic level. Parking here is dependent upon arrival time. If you get here at 10:20 good luck finding a space in bayside, probably will have to park at the globe. Clinical placement sites for Nursing are good, labs are good, the school is constantly under construction and areas are always being blocked off. Parking will soon cost between 9-15 dollars a day according to emails from the uni. So it’s alright but the university is slowly draining the life of its commuters.

You will struggle to find a decent job after attending this school. This type of diploma will only land you a job in retail industry, if you are lucky. Save your money! The professors are excellent though.

UMass Boston is a work in progress in any way you can imagine. After being here for two years, one can suffice to say it is an inadequate place to receive the best college experience. Although it has a nice ocean view, it is impossible to walk through this campus without hearing a self proclaimed “p.c.” person making prejudiced comments toward white people. I’m transferring this year to hopefully find a better college experience.

cafeteria located in campus center is good , but all the products are over priced if you go on perk hours you may find it very crowded.

I'm currently a Sophomore at UMB and want to try and provide a completely honest, unbiased review of the school. I'll start off with pro's - most of the services staff seem to really care about their students. Everyone I've ever dealt with for any services I've needed has been incredibly helpful. My parents are retired so expendable income isn't rolling in, but UMass gave me a financial aid package that covered the year for me, on top of that, a $750 voucher to the bookstore. That's about where the pro's end. A lot of the teachers are underpaid, meaning staff is either upset or inexperienced. My computer science professor this year is literally a student instructor, teaching a major course. He's incredibly unclear and never responds to emails. Maybe this is due to the size of classes, but responding to emails seems to be a thing that just doesn't happen at all. Teachers encourage seeing them during their office hours, but go over 30 minutes and you're kicked out of their office. That seems to be the only way to reach out to them. On top of that, there really isn't any effort to get to know the students. I am a sophomore, and only two teachers so far in my time here have bothered to learn our names. This is understandable if you're in a lecture hall, but even the small classes don't really have any sense of one-to-one with your professor. Not helping this is the students who attend the school. For some reason, everyone here is incredibly awkward, sometimes rude, or just outright not worth spending your time with. Students here are either (understandably) shy international students, students who attend because they need to (not because they want to), or students who work full time on top of going to school. This creates an environment where kids merely show up, go to class, then immediately go home without bothering to talk to anyone. Even most of the upperclassmen travel around on their own. I consider myself a pretty social person, and have had trouble forming relationships with anyone. Parking is bad and expensive to boot, the construction on campus is awful, the atmosphere is depressing especially in the winter, it's freezing most of the time considering the campus is on the water, the school was originally designed to be a prison so there are no windows in the classrooms, and the politics based around money and the UMass system's general neglect of the Boston campus means I can't recommend this school to anyone. I'm anxiously awaiting winter break so that I can transfer and never look back. UMass Boston has the competence and composure of a community college, but expects a workload out of its students that would reflect a high-ranking university. This is fine, college isn't supposed to be easy, but most of what I've done for the past year and a half has been self-teaching. The atmosphere is riddled with anxiety, and it WILL affect your psyche after a while. I'd stay away - you're better off going to a community college and transferring from there. I made the mistake of thinking this was going to be an affordable college experience - there is no *college* experience, and the experience it's given me so far has been awful and disheartening.

How can all these supposed graduates of UMB not even be able to communicate effevtively? Most of the reviews are given by those whose spelling and grammar are atrocious. My guess is that the ones who give such a poor review never got accepted, never mind graduated from the university. Thanks. Suzanne

I took 3 credits here to complete my degree at Tufts University. I loved all my classes at U-Mass Boston. They were very informative and I learned a lot. The professors were very nice and sweet and they were concerned with our learning and how much we were learning. In some of my political science classes, people had very liberal opinions and others had conservative opinions. However, everyone was welcome to share their opinions.I really loved my History of African American class. My professor was awesome and we were challenged to think really critically in the class. I also made some awesome friend and it is a plus that UMass Boston is by the water.

I graduated a while ago and it was pretty great then, but over the last few years this university has become really awesome! Honors College, great new Integrated Science Complex and fascinating research happening, new art/music and theater studios and performance spaces coming online, the Venture Development Center, so much to offer. Great value for the price--

When I applied for the Spanish/English translation program I was told that I should wait for the entrance exam results before enrolling in the University and I was informed I would receive a pass/fail grade of that exam in approximately 3 weeks. Although the enrollment deadline would have been the 15June for transfer students, the entrance exam wasn’t made available until 22June and I completed it on the 23June. The exam consisted of 3 parts via an online platform; a resume, a translation and an essay. I saw that my resume was graded very promptly and given a mediocre grade of 75% as I waited to see the grades of the other parts of the entrance exam. As I continued to check the online system their was no evidence the other portions were graded and I inquired to the University about a month later. I was told by the dept. that they would look into it and I would hear something back, which I never did. As the beginning of the program was near I sent another email this time to the director inquiring toward the end of August after I noticed that I no longer had access to the online platform. I received a reply on the 26th of August finally telling me that I didn’t qualify for the program and that I was previously sent a message in regard, that I apparently never received. I expressed my concern that the results were based on only my resume because I never saw or heard any evidence that my translations nor essay were ever looked at. It seemed to me that current students were the target participants since the entrance exams weren’t given until after the transfer student enrollment deadline. I was later told that all three parts of the exam are graded at the same time, that I met all of the certain traits they look for in students and my results were based on my translations; this raised the question of why my resume grade was mediocre and no other parts of the exam showed as being graded. After further inquiry, the University was either unwilling or unable to provide the pass/fail score I was originally told I would receive nor able to tell me exactly when or to which e-mail address their original message was sent to; a message that cannot seem to be reproduced. Furthermore, When I finally received information that I didn’t qualify for the program it would not have been possible for me to enroll as I had already missed the enrollment deadline. The circumstances surrounding my application and entrance exam seem questionable at best. Furthermore, I could have used the 2 months that I was waiting to hear from the UMB to search for other programs which was crippling to my academic endeavors. I find it very hard to believe that my translations were ever graded considering I had checked the online platform where I never saw the message that I am skeptical was ever sent, nor was there ever a grade entered for my translations or essay, only my resume was scored. I don’t believe I was ever given a fair chance to participate in the program and the university seemed disinterested in my valid concerns.

Quality education for sure, but the continued price hikes in tuition and fees coupled with a campus that is extremely time-consuming to get to by public transport and by driving (and then there is so little parking on campus). I wish there were closer vendors and food places beside campus food.

There is an electrical program at UMass Boston. Located along the Harbor Walk in Dorchester the scenery is one of the nicest college campuses in the USA. There is also a chemistry and physics undergrad coursework to study. This is a quick commute from downtown Boston about 15 minutes yet the scenery is alot of trees.

I'm glad I didn't go to this school. Poor planning, construction, a joke.... I was invited to attend campus, and it is a poorly organized and constructed area. The classrooms and offices are cells with no windows. I don't see anything that would make me come here.

Mikhail M. Nitko

I work here as staff and find the working environment pretty good. My bosses have been good, my coworkers are dependable, and the students seem well behaved and conscientious (most of the time). The new buildings are nice, and the harbor walk is kind of amazing, and the beach is very chill. Good luck finding a place as tranquil anywhere else near the city. There is however one small con and one big con.. the small con is that there aren't that many places to eat and Sodexo runs all the food on campus, and their attempts at ethnic foods are sad. And the aforementioned big con is that there is no less than 3 buildings being built on this tight peninsula right now, and one huge building that was taken down over the year I've been here.. the construction is a mess. Though the new, finished buildings, like the science complex, are great. But if you can take the T somehow, as I do, this place is fantastic.

It's fantastic to see the blue ocean water by sitting in our lab! Newly constructed Integrated Science Complex offers state-of-the--art research facility for Biology and Chemistry major. Cafeteria located in the Campus Center is great with variety of food options. The campus would be aesthetic after finishing the on-going construction works. However, the Healey's library seems dark and not attractive to study.

I had the worst experience with this university. Their administration is THE worst and slowest and the most inefficient. If you want them to process something, good luck, you are waiting for anywhere between four to six months (that is when you are lucky). The campus was built from a jail- anybody can tell but they all pretend that they still love it. I am just not sure why the university cannot hire smarter people? Then I kind of get the answer...they don't have money, and their administration is working at a salary of 20k a year. At this range, who do you think you will attract other than the worst? Also do people ever get a realistic parking spot in the parking lots? No, because they are under construction all the time. People often say that UMass-Boston is the ugly sister of UMass-Amherst. So true. Not that UMass-Amherst is that good (it is in the middle of nowhere), but that UMass-Boston is really a ugly nasty place. Do not either go to or work for this place. Make an investment of your money and time somewhere else.

Great public research university. Professors really engage into the student's education and the quality of education. Majority professors in Math and CS department contains PhD from Ivy league schools that are: MIT, Havard, Princeton, Cornell and Yale. Talking about Ivy League quality education with 1/3 of tuition.

My niece is about to be a student there and we just going to make her transfer now because the man at their financial aid office was very rude to her, she asks is there any scholarship or financial aid for international students and their man said no , she was talking to me and she said well this suck and then man start going off on her about she should have check her finance before coming here nobody ask you to come here after that she tear up and told me "I thought you said it was going to be a better everything but in my country I wouldn't receive this kind of treatment". I'm ashamed when she said that, so I hope karma find its way to this man as for now this school get a no from me and I was the one forcing her to come to their school when she got in 7 colleges I told her Umass Boston is there best one but I don't think so anymore. Have good day evryone.
