I was suppose to attend this school but the financial aid office was so disgusting. They are unprofessional, last minute, & you can never get a solid answer. One person will tell you one thing and someone else will tell you another. My best friend attends this school & she hates it. She will be transferring next year to another HBCU.

My alma mater that I love so very much. Morgan gave me a chance at an education when I really didn't deserve it academically. I almost let them down for the first few years here but, after a lot of patience on the part of this fine school, I turned into a pretty good student. Thanks so much Morgan for making me the individual I am today. Thanks also on behalf of my daughter, my grand-son and many other close relatives and friends who are also Morgan alums.

I am a Parent of a Student that attends MSU. I have read the reviews and I see first hand the issues that are true. They give you the run-around, they are very unprofessional, and No ONE seems to want to help you in the Financial Aid department. My Son transferred there, and it's been a nightmare. So much inconsistency and drama. You can't get a straight answer out of no one. It's really sad!

How can you really give a negative review an institution that's in place to nurture an provide an education to a youth society that seems to want to distance themselves from education.

It was one of the best experiences of my life. The professors were very knowledgeable and informative. I was surprised to learn, the student and faculty body is growingly diverse. This school prepares you for the real world.

The Psychology department is the best department at the school. You are treated like family and the instructors really want to see you succeed. It is not easy but if it were, what good would it be?

I'm writing this post because I see a few 1 ratings. I'd like to say that I graduated in 2011 from the School of Engineering with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and in 2013 with my Masters in Transportation & Urban Infrastructure Studies. I spent the majority of my time at the engineering building, so I cannot truly speak about what goes on at the main campus. The professors that were there before I graduated were awesome and extremely knowledgeable. Unfortunately, a few great ones passed away. One thing for sure, the Engineering program is still a great program and breeds great engineers. Everyone I graduated with, whether in CE, EE, or IE program are doing extremely well in their career. SO if you are considering becoming an engineer, check Morgan out, as it is still a really good HBCU to go to for engineering.

In all honesty Morgan is just a waste of time and money. It is indeed a money-hungry university and the staff truly does not care about the students. Do not even get me started on the financial aid office.... Absolutely disappointing. It is a shame that this HBCU gives the rest a bad look. My personal experience with this school is far too detailed to type but I do not recommend this school to anyone. The staff sucks, the snobby ratchet people suck, and it's in the worst part of Baltimore!!!!! Wish there were negative stars

This is my first year as a transfer student and I expected more from a Historical Black College. My first class did not have enough chairs so the remaining students had to sit on the FLOOR. I am paying you money to learn on the floor. I am in Social Work and they decided last minute to change the entire curriculum and expect you to drop old classes to the new ones before school start. How does that make sense. They don't send you any information as to who your counselor is. They expect you to call the main number and ask them to tell you. I have reported to my classes on multiple days only to find class room changes and or an empty class. Why am I getting up to report to school when no class in session.. School just started 2 days ago. I have spoken to staff of the school and they shared many student transfer out due to Morgan lack of communication, uncaring attitude for students education. How you building new building on campus but don't have enough chairs for students to sit in. They hire uncaring staff who makes it clear if they dont want to deal with you, they will direct you to someone else and so on.. You never get straight answers. If you do, you want to double check because it may be wrong I can go on and on of the sign and the struggle I have experienced being enrolled with this college. I should have went to UMBC, but I will Spring 2015. Worst schools to attend are Morgan State, Coppin State and Sojour Douglas. STEER CLEAR!!!

Best college experience thus far!!! Morgan state has exceeded beyond my expectations. Being an HBCU race will always correlate—as a transfer from a prestigious non-Black university, I can argue that I've experience the same unorganized services that everyone else complains about other universities. In life, you have to learn to make the best of things. For the simple fact that it is an HBCU in America, it is already frowned upon and negative assumptions are what is expected upon arrival— it is all controversial. Having attended Morgan for a year, I can argue that I am receiving a stellar education, meeting and establishing everlasting bonds that will last a life time, with a social life you will not receive at any other university and more... When you learn the history behind your university, you'll learn to love it for what it really is. Morgan State is a progressing and innovating university where you'll learn and be introduced to new people and ideas daily. "Growing the future. Leading the world!"

AVOID THIS INSTITUTION. You can never get a straight answer from the departments. I wanted to transfer some credits from my previous institution, such as a math course. The math department sends me to the transfer center, The transfer center sends me to my advisor, the advisor sends me to my major department... its like going in circles and you have to fight to get your courses transferred. Also, the transfer center had my transcript, they did not transfer the classes that are matching here, unless you have to bring the course catalog of your previous institution and show them that it matches. YOU HAVE TO DO THEIR JOB IN ORDER TO GET YOUR CLASSES TRANSFERRED! And if you're not aware of that, you will have to take the same course that you took already all over again and just waste your time and money... They just want you to stay in school as much as they could to take your money! I would not recommend this terrible school to anyone.

Avoid this UNPROFESSIONAL Institution of "Higher Learning" at all cost! They do not care about their students, they only care about how they look on the outside looking in! For example, brand new library...with no books! They are highly unprofessional, students graduated Spring 2017...but their names was not in the commencement booklets and as of September 2017...they still don't have a new booklet with the names in them! PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD TO A WHITE SCHOOL! Where their education would be cared for in the most prestigious way! The PRESIDENT OF MORGAN IS ALSO A JOKE! STUDENTS FROM THE SPRING 2017 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY NAMES WERE NOT LISTED!!! You know how crazy that is!? I know a persons father who drove 48 hours (because he didn't want to fly)...just to arrive and find out his sons name is not even in the book! ALL JOKES ASIDE AVOID THIS PLACE! DO NOT SEND ANYONE HERE, IF YOU DO, YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEM! IT IS NOT SAFE! PEOPLE GET STABBED AND SHOT ON CAMPUS! I WILL (try to) WRITE A REVIEW EVERYWEEK TILL SOMETHING CHANGES! I DONT CARE IF IT TAKES YEARS... Side note...I only like one thing about Morgan and that is the Frederick Douglass statue! Another Side Note...May 2017 Graduates are still waiting for commencement booklets with their names in them! Dr. Bernie Hollis, Dr. Wilson, And Kweisi Mfume DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS!!! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND NEW BUILDINGS!! IT IS NOT SUCH THING AS QUALITY EDUCATION AT MORGAN STATE! 10/11/17! Don't Be surprise if you see this story in the news!

I applied to Morgan in February and still have not been informed whether I have been accepted into the MSW program or not. I have called steady 7 different contacts for 2 weeks and have emailed staff and they NEVER answer the phone or respond to emails. I was able to get in touch with the Dean and she was kind and sent an email back, but even then, I did not receive any further correspondence when I informed her that I had not received any further information from the actual department. The actual Grad department did not provide further assistance or solutions as well. I really was looking forward to attending this "HBCU" but it is clear they do not respect their current or prospective students. This is why many of those in my community have turned away from doing business with many businesses within the community. Lack of respect and grave unprofessionalism... I have been extremely patient of this situation and have even extended my personal deadline of "if they don't respond by such and such date" I have to apply to other schools on my list. Time was wasted.

It is no surprise the University has been awarded the distinction of being a "National Treasure ". I had an outstanding experience when I matriculated here. I owe all my successes in life to the many lessons and experiences here at Morgan State. Reading some of these responses I am left shaking my head "I have attended 5 colleges and this is the worst" I would ask you sir who attends 5 colleges? Perhaps the problem is you. Or "the white and Asian professors don't have the interest of blacks and aren't pro black" kind sir you need to have your own interest for thy self, the professors are there to guide you not spoon feed you. " The professors know you need a 70 to pass but they give you a 69" well sir maybe had you studied one more hour, day or one more week perhaps you would've got your one more point and earned and given said "70" perhaps would've earned 80 even better. What I will say is , I can attest to what you claim as I too fell victim of the one point short coming as I was one point from a B and received a C. This is a misconception with hbcu's there are free passes. There is no free ride or cake walk at them especially Morgan. As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that all eyes and attention are on you with greater expectations as you are more than a number like you are at the larger pw universities. Many can say "I went to Morgan State, far fewer can say " I am graduate of Morgan State University. Trust me if you work hard and are fortunate enough to cross the burning sands that is that graduation stage, you've worked and earned it and you will reap the rewards of " Fair Morgan " oh how I love thee.

I attended Morgan as both a transfer undergrad and throughout grad school. It's not a bad school... Depending on your major. I was in the architecture program, which is essentially it's own ecosystem within the university, and aside from university-required classes, classes are held all in the same CBEIS building. I'm going to review the college as a whole, rather than just the building I spent most of my time in. People need to understand that when they say the college is not "diverse", it is a prominent HBCU... However, if you actually look around and talk to people, you realize diversity is all over Morgan. People from different backgrounds, countries, cultures, people from all over the United States. Be careful you are not lumping diversity just to a skin color, or your own definition of it because after my 5 years there, I met people from all over and gained so much perspective and knowledge of other cultures. If you are in a program that is particularly strong, then your classes will be pretty good (not necessarily organized, but the experience will be good). That being said, some of the professors and classes at Morgan are a joke. Professors who noticeably don't care about what they're teaching or constantly show up late; professors who poorly teach the required material and still expect you to retain it, etc. My best advice would be to not rely on your advisor to hold your hand through registration and advising processes (look over everything on your own first). There will be times that they'll accidentally "miss" a class you needed, or give you misguided information. This is especially true with the administration/student services, they'll say one thing and mean another and at the end of it all, they'll act like it's your fault because you didn't look into it yourself, but that's common in a lot of colleges. Just be careful. Campus is nice - the ever-growing construction of new buildings gives the college a more premium feel for a historic university, but they really need to spend money on the dorms. They're awful. I advise you to look off campus for your living situation. I commuted my first semester from 45 minutes away, and finally ended up renting an apartment nearby with much better conditions. You'll start to notice that improvements to the campus grounds usually only happen around "event" time... Like graduation or something, but they're still well-kept the rest of the time. The food court is a joke for a school with students living on-campus. I feel bad for y'all because the pickings are slim and sometimes unreliable, so I really hope that can be remedied in the future because the experience would have been a lot better. Especially on my side of the campus where there was absolutely nothing - so you have to walk all the way across campus or drive off campus to get something to eat. Parking. Parking is free for commuters, and $15 for a new pass if you lose yours or get a new car. Please take this into consideration if you're looking to commute. Parking is FREE. Colleges like Towson, etc, charge like $400+ just for a commuter pass. Crime. It's an "urban" school - so yes, there are the consequences of crime here and there. However, people make it out to seem a lot worse than it is. I had signed up for the security text alerts and email alerts and we really didn't get THAT many, especially compared to other colleges. You have to be mindful of your surroundings and what you're doing while walking around, etc. If you make smart decisions, you won't have a problem. I never felt unsafe at Morgan. While Morgan is very unorganized in some aspects, it makes up for it in a lot of other ways. I enjoyed my experiences and time at Morgan despite some of the hiccups and speedbumps along the way. I'd definitely recommend this school for its diverse student body, competitive tuition pricing, and overall experience - just do your research on the dos and don'ts before you decide to settle in.

Wanted to come here for my freshman year of college last year & they never gave me an answer as to whether or not I was accepted. I call after some time passes by since I never got anything from them & they tell me they "don't have" my records. I resend everything in & STILL never received anything from them telling me if I got accepted or not in the end. Lady on the phone was rude and very short anyway. Didn't care at all. I have a friend who actually transferred out of here right after just first semester of being there recently bc the staff is terrible & its not the safest school

I am a senior at Morgan State and although I agree that the school can sometimes be disorganized I think the great teachers make up for it. At the end of the day you're responsible for your success not the school. I have made Dean's list for the last two years and I'm happy I chose to attend.

Charlisha Johnson

Morgan State has become more than just another school/university. Its a home that contains a family of people who network together to ensure that the young black society makes something of themselves. Yeah they have some quirks like any other school but Dr. Wilson the president of the university acknowledges those faults and is working everyday and night to correct anything at fault shoot he jokes about the faults he needs to fix. However you need to honor that this institution is here to help the community grow. You can sulk in the negativity at the university of you can embrace the good and succeed into a better tomorrow. I'm a philosophy pre law major I love my department even if we are small my professors are close knit and work very hard to keep majors thriving in their college careers.

Karen Brown Williams

Lexi Bear

I would never recommend this school to ANYONE. This school is very unorganized, and dysfunctional. When I first applied, they assumed I was an out of state student. I lived in Maryland for over 20 years. Let's not start with the Athletic department. If your in Sports Medicine, in August you have to attend camp. Every single year, they have problems with housing. Coaches are responsible for providing housing for students who can't commute back and fourth every single day. The coaches DO NOT make sure the people that need housing has housing. Academics, they will tell you that you need to major in this Specific major because it's the right one for you. Later when it's time to graduate you meet with another advisor they tell you that you took all of the wrong classes. Then you have to start all over. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY TO THIS SCHOOL, Many other students have had the same exact problem.

We brought you the story of Morgan State University assistant professor Lawrence Brown last night. Brown said that white allies should either deposit their ‘unearned wealth’ into black people’s accounts, or jump between black people and police. White allies refers to white people who would march or support his activist cause. Is this the type professors you have at this place.

I chose Morgan State for its affordability and establishment within the city I live. The reputation varies depending on the department, but overall, it's worth it. You get what you pay for. As an HBCU, race will of course come into play- that's an unfortunate truth. Looking past stereotypes is what makes the education valuable. University administrative organization could be better, but it's no worse than what I had experienced during my undergraduate studies at a much more expensive and reputable school. You'll get that everywhere. For cost and convenience, I've been more than satisfied. My expectations were exceeded.

For the amount of money that is charged for tuition especially out of state, this school needs a lot of remodeling! My son’s bathroom was absolutely filthy, the rooms were the size of a car trunk and the move in process was ridiculous. It made no sense whatsoever that parents had to walk across busy streets to move their child’s things into the dorm. People had their smaller kids, their student moving in and loads of stuff to quickly get across two streets just to get to the dorms...AND this is a busy street. They hardly return phone calls and are rather rude in Student Services when it comes to answering questions. The area does not look safe AT ALL! Straight hood. This school reminds you of Lean In Me. They don’t even provide students a separate mode of transportation to get to shopping areas such as a campus shuttle bus OFF OF CAMPUS..they only do on campus shuttle. Parents, (especially parents of out of state students) look into this school thoroughly before allowing your child to choose this school. IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY and to be honest the government needs to investigate this place because it’s no way they are using people’s financial aid to benefit these students. The worst HBCU I have seen thus far.

Rod Morgan

I attended five colleges, Morgan State was my fourth. The University completely robs the students. Me being a black man I was excited at the opportunity to attend a HBCU. The students resources are very limited. Unlike my other colleges they charge you for every piece of paper you need. Now this does not mean that everyone is doomed for failure because light can always be found in the darkest situations. I could go on for days about the agony of attending this school but it would become redundant very fast if you're looking at attending this college I would strongly suggest looking into all your options first. Don't set yourself up for failure. Attend the school that's going to put you in the best environment and provides you the most resources to accomplish your mission efficiently. This College has the potential to be one of the finest but the corruption in the front office is the pollution to the population and it's never going to end because nobody seems to cares about the black students of Morgan State.

Current student, and speaking from experience. Adminstration here is awful, trying to get answers from financial aid or any other division is fruitless. Many out of state students came here and had no where to live- had to be placed in hotels and still paying for room and board. Many peoples papers and records were “lost” and resending was useless. I’ve had the “best” experience so far- none of my records have been lost and I haven’t had issue with financial aid but it happens so often that it’s a norm. It’s sad that this is what freshmen are dealing with and Morgan expects them to come back. The people here don’t care, the students in turn don’t care, and it shows. Wish someone could fix this, but it’s left a negative experience on me and I don’t plan to recommend this institution to anyone. It was highly recommended to me but I don’t see why- maybe Morgan was better in their days but now it’s fallen hard.

I don't like how unprofessional they've been when dealing with my son, this is not an HBCU that I would ever mention to anyone, the conduct of the staff and the powers that be are shameful, I read the reviews prior to him leaving for this horrible place but I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, I shouldn't have.
