The experience at Coppin is one horrible one to remember. I tried to support HBCU's since I'm an African American but the unorganization at these schools are ridiculous. Coppin is by far the worst. The financial aid office doesnt really want to help students. They have attitudes like they're not supposed to do their jobs. I overheard a staff member saying "I do not want to see ANY STUDENTS TODAY!" It's the third week of school and my book voucher still hasnt processed. I asked why and they do not know. The lady tells me I need to wait another three business days while it continues to process. Its already been 10 business days! Still no valid explanantion. In addition to this, the school book store advertises GoBank which is a mobile bank account. The sign in front of the book store says that you can direct deposit your financial aid and tuition refunds. Financial aid knows nothing about this and directs me to the business office. The business office says they do not know anything about GoBank and you cannot direct deposit your refund. ????? So who knows then? I demanded to speak to someone who knows. No success. So i head to the bookstore and ask them about the sign and guess what? The lady in the bookstore doesnt know either and tries to tell me how to join and contact GoBank! I'm fed up with the run arounds, unknowledgeable staff, unorganization, attitudes, and the unwillingness to help students. I will do my ultimate best to transfer to another school immediately. Please future students, DO NOT go to Coppin unless you want to deal with staff and administration that doesn't care about your well being and success as a student!! I could go on about some of the teachers that teach courses they don't have expertise in but I could go all day! Do not come to Coppin! I'm leaving ASAP!

Thank you for the heads up. I was seriously considering applying but i think I will pass based on the reviews. Looks like this place needs a boost in both integrity, morale and value. Yikes!

I am a graduate of Coppin State University and with any educational experience it is what you make it. I am a non-traditional HBCU student and was always treated with respect and enjoyed the staff.

Just completed my first semester as an Honors student at Coppin (yeah) and have noted many positive experiences. The Honors faculty is supportive and available to the student body, my professors are insightful and eager to teach those who want to learn/grow. I have found the admissions staff to be helpful in determining the best schedule for my major. I look forward to getting more involved as the next semester gets underway.

I attend school full time here. Most all the professor's are doctorate level educators with impressive credentials. My degree program advisor is always available during the week for advice and mentorship. The neighborhood surrounding the school isn't the best, but again this is Baltimore city. Coppin Eagles basketball is a division 1 level team baby!!!

The professors are very helpful and want you to succeed. Financial aid is okay it has some issues; however, the financial advisors will resolve your issue in a timely fashion.

This school needs to be gutted and rebuild. No one ever answers the phone, the financial aid office staff just refers you to FAFSA, sent in information on behalf of my daughter three times to Residency and Health prior to starting. I had to stay all day on the campus to get everything cleared. The resources for students is non existing and Freshmen students left out, no guidance and talk about kids leading kids. Food in the Cav, made plenty of kids sick last year as well. They need to do better.

This is a pretty good school and the nursing program is awesome. They charge for every little thing here tho, down to parking, even if you work there, which can be very pricey. The staff is nice and there's lots to get into @ the school. They have a shuttle to get the students around campus and plenty of programs for many different occasions and situations.

The school has one great quality and that is, it is very cheap. Other than that the administration is very disorganized and if you are not on them like white on rice than your things will never get done. I am a Freshman this year and i will be transferring back home which is in Virginia, my experience so far is not good pertaining to the professors and administration, but the people are pretty cool and you will learn a lot good and bad. As for the campus it is nice but the surrounding area is a scary site to see it scared me when i first came to see it, being from Richmond, Virginia, but if you stay on campus all of the time it is alright. -Class of 2017

Ive had grown to like my school but the Parking sucks and the fines are ridiclously high for college students to pay.The cafeteria staff are always very nasty and rude to students no matter the day or time and i been a student for 3 years here. They treat you as if you were stealing food out of their family mouths! We as students should not have to pay to eat and get unfair treatment once arrive. The school management should really investigate this issues. They food is always delicious which is why we don't need nasty people serving it!

I worked here for 4 years. It was the not a good experience for me. I am a student advocate first and foremost. The students here need more support and Coppin was not prepared to provide it. Students regularly fell through the Coppin system. The retention and graduation rates clearly reflect these challenges. There are positives - some very talented and caring faculty and staff who want only the best for the students. However — they are far outnumbered by staff and faculty more concerned about appearances and less concerned about outcomes and assessment. Some are simply not qualified to do the work they are expected to do. There is a new Science & Technology Building — really fantastic! The number of buildings in poor condition considerably outnumber the improvements. Coppin tends to be the most affordable 4-year institution in Maryland - a very good thing for students who complete their degree programs. However — even affordability cannot justify education debt for the high percentage of students who do not complete their programs in 6 years. Top administration has been a revolving door. In my 4 years, I had 6 supervisors. I saw 2 presidents, 3 provosts, 4 people manage the Enrollment Management division. There is potential — that’s why I listed ‘2 stars’. However - with time I am less optimistic Coppin will rise above the challenges.

As a HBCU, (Historically Black College and University) i go to support Coppin for their basketball games, everyone is a big family there!!! Even those who dont know you, they still will speak to you!! Glad to have HBCU's in our state of Maryland!!

I wouldn't send a monkey to Coppin State. The teacher's don't teach, they just give online training and book work. You will not learn a thing. You can learn more from the internet for free. THIS SCHOOL IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!

I do not understand where these good reviews are coming from. The campus itself is very beautiful but the surroundings are the worst ever! Your car will get broken into, people only like this school because everyone gets good grades.

Coppin State is now the worst school in Baltimore, and one of the worst in the country. 84% of students drop out! The average GPA is just a 2.7. The honest reviews are hidden, scroll down and read them. Sojourner Douglass closed down, and Coppin State isn't far behind.

Poor excuse for a university. No ability to communicate.

Franci Jull

The people at the school is wonderful! However, the financial aid brings problems to almost everyone on the campus! Financial aid should not be giving students a difficult time!

I briefly stopped at Coppin when I was still in high school, because my grandmother is an alum and wanted me to consider going. I was looking for a Computer Science/Information Technology program; my mom mistakenly called it a CyberSecurity degree but anyone in either of those departments should be able to provide information on the subject, at least. I went into the computer science department on campus, had to search for a faculty member to speak to, and when my mom asked for information about the Cyber Security program the guy went "I've heard of Cyber Security...."
