that is the place change my life, great teacher and stuff
Kirkwood is a fantastic school with high level talent. The college seems to view itself as a service to paying customers (a bafflingly rare delight), and offers courses that inspire good work and deep thinking. Kirkwood *far* exceeds any other educational institution I've attended. The admission process is transparent, the courses you're paying for are clearly outlined, the requirements of the course are made plain at the start of the term... man. I can't say enough nice things. And you know what? I never once had anyone correct me to say "Call me 'Doctor' ". That may not mean much to you, but it meant a hell of a lot to me. Do yourself a favor and go here for your first two years with an eye to transfer on, should that be your aim. You're not just getting more for your money. You're flat out getting more.
CRACC Cedar Rapids Area Community College
I took a few classes through Kirkwood's accelerated program to transfer towards my Bachelor's degree at Mount Mercy. I like Kirkwood, and especially the Linn County Regional Center where they hold evening classes, and I felt like the material was alright as far as what I was learning, but now that I have started to regularly attend Mount Mercy, I can definitely tell a difference in the quality of the classes. I don't think that Kirkwood is bad, per se, but I do think you get what you pay for. Overall, though, not bad.
really good college i really like going here
I consider Kirkwood to be the Peoples College because they will accept anyone & allow them to improve themselves either with continuing education or by way of formal degree. I enjoyed my classes and had some really good teachers. The buildings are really nice and EagleTech is a great resources, along with the Gym & Library. If you have the will they will find a way to work with you to make sure that you are successful. I was able to get my associates degree here and graduate debt free!
No good football
Unprofessional procedures, rude staff.
Traveled the world, gave me a job and had great instructors!
My school
My grandpa passed away the last week of a semester and I needed to leave state for the funeral. I applied for credit as is. They told me dont worry youll be approved. Just go be with your family . I found out almost 2 months later when my grades were finalized that they denied my request and never even told me. I asked what was i suppost to do? I had all A s in my classes so I would have done very well on the final exams. I asked to take the finals. They said no. I ended up with a few Ds. It tanked my GPA for years. Kirkwoods only solution was to retake the classes. They were awful to me. I asked several people what happened how could I have been denied? Apparently they threw away my application right away. For some unknown reason. If I had known that I could have taken the finals before the grades were finalized. Kirkwood is what you pay for. Its cheap. And the school treats you like it.
Waste of my GI bill to be guided into continually wasting time here despite failing physics four times with no help and a barely English speaking teacher for several semesters. Glad that physics is a REQUIREMENT of your school for a basic PTA degree. Would take my GI bill and every second I wasted here back if I could but I can only warn fellow soldiers don’t waste your GI bill here, I made $666.66 a month to spend on books and gas and food here as a full time student and went broke after the second week each month even after getting the meal plan. Wish I could get a refund since I still have no skills, no job and am now even less able to afford real education after my financially depraved experience here. When even their trade programs change from one semester to the next you know you’re eventually coming back to requalify at Kirkwood all over as an adult now? Yay! This place taught me that aside from universities, trade schools are America’s next biggest scam. Think about it, they train you for an entry level job but with this demanding economy skill development is a requirement for pay advance-no one wants to make entry level salary their whole life, and even more so no one wants to have to come back to college with a bunch of kids as an adult-avoid these places like the traps they are! I fought so hard in the army to avoid student debt, but this socialized level of education the GI bill pays for isn’t worth going through basic training, let alone unit stationing, and deployment! Don’t serve, don’t go to school, and try to hold onto your sanity, your dignity, but most importantly your money, these scammers will take anyone willing to sign!
I called the school about some informations, the programs and stuff. They are really helpful to answer my questions.
I had a terrible experience at Kirkwood. I went for nursing and the instructors could care less about if you are learning the material to pass. They said they have such a good repuatation and a 98-99 whatever pass rate, well yeah you will have that when there are very few student left in the end. If you want a good nursing college, go to Mount Mercy University, I'm going on my second year and absolutely love it and the instructors really care about you to help you succeed.
No staff members seem to know what's going on, no one on the same page, no accountability , NOT even basic service skills from anyone encountered, and because of that I wouldn't send my dumbest dog to Kirkwood .
My daughter had an issue in class last year and was removed from a program. We had to get involved with a formal appeal. She was allowed to re-take the class this semester. One day this semester, because she could not find a needed form in her in her computer, the instructor told her she had to leave class. She stepped out, and in 15 min found the form, and was told she had to leave the class for the remainder of the year. This school is a fraud. They took her tuition for this year, and removed her for something very insignificant. It appears to me that they held a grudge against her from last year, waited until she paid for this semester and took out their revenge against her. Buyer Beware
Great facilities and an overall great place!
Least understanding faculty. Called 6 hours after my deadline to cancel a test that I paid $95 dollars to take. The program director for CE was rude and condescending stating that she would not refund my exam because I was simply 6 hours past the 24 hour deadline. This school is clearly just out to rob people of their money and it’s sickening. I’ve had nothing but a bad experience and it’s crazy to me because at one point I was so excited to attend. Hope they’re happy turning a profit once again whether big or small.
Love my school experience in 2016! Everyone is super friendly, and I even like my teachers. Kirkwood has given me a start of a great education, employment and hope!
Kirkwood does not have a professional appeal process in place. I was registered for a class I never attended nor registered for. The tuition balance was paid in full and one class was added after the fact. I have heard of others experiencing this problem and was told by an advisor/counselor that this was an ongoing problem. I was never able to speak to anyone in charge instead I was told to write an appeal. Once an appeal decision is made there is nothing you can do. It doesn't matter if you were a perfect student and paid your classes with cash. Kirkwood just wants your money. Students beware!!
Ran into a lot of trouble. Most people here are not so good at getting back to you and it is difficult to find someone who actually has an answer to your question. Although I have ran into my fair share of not so good faculty and employees there are some good ones. Don't try calling to the one stop office close to 5 though, they will put you on hold until 5 then never pick up your call.
Everything about Kirkwood is awesome, except Dr. Jennifer Bradley who rules arbitrarily. Many of my instructors are great people who positively impacted my life. I would recommend any of the skilled trades programs at Jones Hall, especially HVAC which includes sheet metal, copper plumbing, gas pipe fitting, electrical, blue print reading and troubleshooting. So much variety, you could feed your brain here forever. I would add a special FU for Seth Vanderwhatever in Student Life for opposing the Roller Derby team and to Jim Glassgow who thinks he is better than everyone. If you are interested in programming, take the Computer Science classes from Cate instead.
I think that Kirkwood's advertising claim that 2 years of training can result in a $40-60K per year job is largely untrue. Nursing jobs around here do not start at $20,000 per year. Kirkwood's claim that transferring your first two years to a 4 year college is not true for engineering degrees. If Kirkwood were a first rate school they would not needed misleading advertising. In general I think Kirkwood is a place where "you get what you pay for" Kirkwood might be OK if you want to study some trade like plumbing or truck driving
If you're the type of person that enjoys picking up a book, teaching yourself something, taking a test - all without ever speaking to the professor, even once, then Kirkwood Online courses are for you. However, if you're struggling with a concept and want to speak with the professor, well, then you would probably have better luck getting an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in your living room. Seriously. I had to call the director of distance learning and complain about a professor (twice) before I could get her to respond to her emails. I am now in my second year of online classes, and wouldn't you know it - I cannot get a single online-professor to respond to my inquiries. For all the reasons this may be so, none of them are acceptable.
There is a teacher at Kirkwood who teaches programming who targets certain students. I was in his class and got several really bad grades because of things like not naming my file exactly like he wants. Assignments that were perfect and should get an A would get an F over a name. He would also change his instructions for assignments and then give bad grades to select students who followed his original instructions. When bringing this up to Kirkwoods administration they didnt really seem to care. I was on the deans list every semester until I took this class which was impossible to pass because the teacher had some personal vendetta towards me. Then on top of everything, Kirkwood charged me extra for failing the class! I realize local colleges arent a dime a dozen and it is hard to just go somewhere else, but if you are thinking about which college to go to for a programming course I would definitely keep your options open. Maybe choose a college that holds their professors accountable and doesnt allow them to treat students differently then others by failing students they simply dont like!
(Translated by Google) I really like your school ...... (Original) gosto bastante do vosso colegio......
you get what you pay for and for their low cost it obviously wont be great
Earned my AS here and completed my pre-engineering courses hear loved it great staff. students, professors. The professors have plenty of one-on-one time.
Be aware of drop dates. They don't care about the student, they just want their money. If you do drop, drop it two days before the deadlines or they will make you pay the full amount. In my two years at Kirkwood Cedar Rapids I've only come across two teachers who should actually be teaching their course. This is the last time I will ever deal with Kirkwood
Affordable, close to home, for all ages.
I went to Kirkwood from 2013 to 2015. The first year I had to take classes with different teachers and enjoyed it but my 2nd year I was so glad I chose Kirkwood. I had almost the same professor the entire 2nd yeae. It was great to get to know one main professor and he know each of us in the classes as well! It also gave me the opportunity to study abroad and go to Ireland! I loved Kirkwood, both the teachers and other students were all great. I would highly recommend it and will probably be going back at some point to finish another degree.
I'm sure there are many people who have had a great experience here. But I have not. I am enrolled in one of Kirkwood's online classes, and not only has the instructor failed to respond to my emails, she has also made several mistakes in the quizzes, as well as neglecting to include the date due for one of the assignments. I am not impressed at all.
Great school, great teachers, beautiful campus
Nice school, cold weather, friendly people!
Great campus

Kirkwood provides education
I love you Kirkwood community college. I am gonna miss you!
My favorite college
Horrible experience with Kirkwood never attended classes here and they say I owe money for doing so! I have tried fighting these fees for 3 years and nothing has been taken care of from beginning Each person tells me something different. I talked to an Amanda lady who was horrible and bashed and bashed me on the phone saying I'm a liar. Wouldn't recommend this school they don't care about education they care about your money and that's it!!
This camp sucks donkey privates
