There is a reason medical doctors, lawyers, and blue collar workers all respect their children's decision to go to WIU. It is a good university with excellent staff. While college is what you make it, the staff does everything they can to retain, prepare, train, educate, prepare, and graduate students to become business owners or land jobs/internships. Highly recommend you seriously consider this University. This is not University of Illinois but it is one of the better options of public schools in the state. You would be impressed with how organized and on top of things they are. The small town of Macomb is generally very safe. Much better than DeKalb, Champaign, and certainly Chicago.

A lot of faculty and professors DONT CARE here at WIU. People tend to not know what’s going on when students have questions. The school is unorganized and I can honestly say my two year experience here was nothing but trouble and I hated it. Hope they can get it together for others because I wouldn’t recommend attending here at all.

Good state school. In the middle of nowhere butmaybe thats a good thing too. When u send em off theres not terribly much to get into an excessive amount of trouble but eniugh "student lifestyle" to keep em interested in being there. Great program for Police Officer candidates and ROTC etc. Overall good value for dollars spent and kids like the campus and facilities well enough. Go visit, its a nice school.

ALL that I was exposed to in the dormitory were violent, alcoholic students. Most courses were taught by interns. I took three courses all taught by the same professor and NEVER MET HIM. The teachers have ZERO concern for the students. The number of rapes at this small state institution will amaze you. BEWARE of W.I.U.!

I fell on ice while walking to class and hurt myself and my dignity because the school doesn’t de-ice their sidewalks. Overall, an okay school. Only came here because it’s cheap and I pay out of pocket.

If your a vet don’t expect to get ur Finacial Aid in a timely manner. Had to switch to chapter 33 for my last semester and they don’t even send the bill to the federal government until 10th day of school. Than you have to wait on the VA to pay it.

My fiancé and I go here, and we’re transferring out after this semester. The professors do not care about anyone and he was told last semester by a professor that since that professor was losing his job no one in the class should expect an A. This school jerks with your classes and if you go here you should keep in mind you might not graduate here due to them cutting every teacher and not replacing them since they’re in such a financial hole. The university does not feel as though it is one and seems more like a terrible highschool to me. Their enrollment is down and continues to plummet, for good reason. Also, no one will work with you and getting things done is almost impossible. I could go on and on, but then I would end up writing a book. Just please note, if you choose to go here, it’ll be the worst decision of your life. Also, if you are told they’re top 10 in law enforcement, know that they’re false advertising and that’s not true. I beg future students to do their research on this school before putting their future at risk. I wish I would have, other than trusting the falseness this university provided.

I got my first bachelors here in 2010 on scholarship and it was the best choice I've ever made. I found amazing friends and top-notch professors who weren't in it for the paycheck. I went on to pursue other things and a few years later decided to get my MA in music therapy, so I went to another school (since WIU didn't have a MA at the time). The education style was totally different and was a *terrible* decision but I grew from it and in the end decided to go back to WESTERN to get a 2nd bachelors in the field I wanted and ended up getting a MUCH better education and 1:1 instruction/supervision. You can learn the hard way and waste thousands of dollars-or you can just go to Western.

There are so many fights on campus. There is a hatred for any student who wants to become an officer there. You are a target. The dorms are not monitored well at all. Weed is all you smell. Very racially divided as well. A little alarming on the daily.
