Financial Aid Office Sucks . I literally have been sending in my legal guardianship papers since May ! I keep getting a email or text saying send it back in so I do. Also when I call they always say WE ARE REVIEWING IT. If so why does it take three months to review a paper ! The people in the office always have nasty attitudes while picking up the phone as if they don’t want to work there. I call every week to check on my award packet but guess what MY PAPER IS STILL GETTING REVIEWED smh makes no sense and oh yea forgot to say my balance is due next week and I asked the lady name Taylor btw very rude if it will be ready before then her response was idk. How don’t you know and you work in financial Aid .. First the room overflow and now the financial aid I reallly think I was better going to another school !

The lowest is what? 0 bars! The worst school I have ever had an encounter with. Each semester there is a problem with housing as well class schedules. Because of this school not being properly organized I have been pushed back in major multiple times and am currently looking at other options. Until this schools gets it together I wouldn't waste my time here ever. The staff doesn't care about the students at all. It is truly sad for students like myself to try so hard to get an education and start our careers but cant because staff member give us the run around. This is the second year that I have been stressed about where I would live during the school year. At this point in my major online is not an option. The school is so money hungry and in debt that they keep accepting more students than they can hold and it isn't benefiting the students.

The staff is very unprofessional and does not follow through with issues reported to them.Gives you a run around when asking for help.I hope nothing happens in the future if so they will be in a class action lawsuit...

This is the 4th (yes 4th) university I have attended. the others were in Chicago, California, and N.J. I can honestly say the issues I have run into here are no worse or better than issues I've experienced at the other schools. I began ASU as a non-traditional student and was more mature, focused and committed this time around. yes I have experienced some disorganization, rude, unprofessional and lazy staff at times. I also spent a total of 4 1/2 years at this institution, and the number of negative encounters I've experienced were very minimal in comparison to my length of stay. Compared to my negative experiences, I can honestly say I've had hundreds of great, positive experiences from the helpful, caring staff and instructors. ASU helped me to discover my purpose in life, I am honored to be an ASU Alumni. And for those of you who have left or are leaving these awful comments.....How idiotic you will be to graduate from a university you yourselves have publicly disgraced. Albany State University will be printed on your degree; or have you not thought that far in advance!

HORRIBLE! I have been having the worst time ever at this institution. The staff is unprofessional and careless. My biggest mistake was making this school my first choice. I will be HAPPILY transferring in Fall 2018 and hopefully getting a fulfilling and REAL college experience. Be careful and do your research!

Albany State is an amazing place to start your academic career. If you want to soar and become a leader on and off campus ASU is the place to be. I was afforded opportunities to study abroad, lead students, and develop professional skills through conferences. I am a recent graduate of ASU and I am competitive in the job market.

If I could give this school a zero I would. You have to take a day off work just to get someone on the phone. That's after holding for over an hour only to be trandferred to a voicrmail, the person transferring you doesn't even tell you your being transferred. Leave a message or even email, and it will be ignored. You have no idea where to find information how to work the banner. We are set up to get emails regarding financial aid..it never sends any notifications. Financial aid info has been scanned since May wasn't even touched until July 18th..found something was wrong with fin aid at the most unorganized orientation ever..not to mention you are charged $185 for the unorganization. While in the organization, a staff member comes into the fin aid room and tells everyone in the room they have to "Get out" her exact words, because the next grouo was coming...one fin aid person with about 20+ ppl with questions...I've left messages and emails since July 28th..today is Aug 8th..and not one person has contacted me..we have a incorrected schedule..questions regarding a transcript cant het into the student email, given a password that doesnt work. As I type I have been holding for IT for 52mins...what a joke. I've dealt with other schools and NEVER has this been the outcome.

Albany State is definitely what you make it. Although, financial aid can be quite slow the education was nothing short of greatness. My professors taught me how to think for my post graduate experience. The school has several different types of clubs, athletics, and work opportunities to gain experience while in school. You definitely have to be focused when coming to ASU, there are several activities that go on throughout the day on campus and there are always parties. The university sits in the middle of nowhere, small cities all around when your from a larger city. However, if you are a focused individual ASU could be the place for you. If you are a slacker then this is not the place for you.

I’ve been trying to get in contact with the admissions office and aid office for the longest I applied months ago and they said they received my application and it was being “reviewed” I called back a month later and the admissions guy literally said to me, “We lost your application; can’t find it talk to Swan.” I have been calling for a week now left messages and all, and I have yet to talk to this person. NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING and I’m very disappointed because I waited a long time to go to an HBCU. I have marched for my people, argued for my people, faced different awakenings in my life that made me appreciate my people and I couldn’t wait to have the opportunity to come here (Albany State) until I had this experience. I guess everything everyone was telling me was true. I am very much saddened by this because Albany is probably a good school but I’ll never know because the experience that I’ve had shown me that it isn’t worth my time money or efforts. #staywoke

The Move in process was the best I've ever seen. You pull up and the guys come to car with rolling containers to pick up all the students items and take all the things to the room. The guys unload Everything in the bedroom and are so friendly and helpful. The campus was clean and jovial.

This school is horrible! The staff cares NOTHING about you! The professors are lazy as well, I have taken on campus and online courses here and I will say this is a terrible place to do online courses , the professors will not respond and if you need to drop a course it will definitely not happen. Go here at your own risk the old Darton staff is sorry, they just want to look cute and gossip but are so rude

If I could give it 0 stars I would. This school is a joke I a m trying to apply to a Ph. D program and I have been waiting for 2 semesters for a professor to submit his final grades!! 2 semesters!! Why am I waiting for 2 semesters for a professor to submit final grades? Is there not a deadline?? There are a lot of good quality professors at this school whom make sure you get the best and everything out of their classes but if you are studying criminal justice please beware!!!

The recent consolidation with Darton has brought on many tough challenges for students. As we know, Darton was the Caucasian college in Albany and ASU was the Historically Black College. Since the merge, the professors from Darton have had to teach minority students and deal with whatever dilemmas were before them. Darton professors are disgruntled and spiteful that they were forced to deal with those type of students (I’m one of those students) and to show their dissatisfaction, Darton professors are giving us loads of work, pop quizzes on stuff we weren’t taught, failing students who should have passed, not allowing u in class if ur late (3 absences could get u dropped) and when they don’t allow u in class this counts as an absence. The Darton professors are also giving tests but not lecturing on the test material. An “A” student might luck up and get a “D” so sad. ASU didn’t provide any type of support for those disgruntled Darton professors such as how to deal with minority students. Nor did the Darton professors have other job opportunities bc ASU is the only university in town. These professors would have to move to Valdosta area or north of Albany which would probably inconvenience them. The Darton professors also thinks the students are being rebellious and kick them out of class which the students are just filled with energy (hyper/adhd). Retaliation on students is such a shame. It’s just awful. Why not resign if ur unhappy with ur job? Y try to force the students to quit? A few Darton professors teach online to avoid direct contact with the students but they still distill their unfavorable like towards the student body in catchy little innocent online tricks such as “I dropped u from class bc u didn’t log in in a few days dispite ur excuses and dispite all of ur work being up to date” or other catchy little “gotchas” the pen has always been powerful and this game that the Darton professors are playing and winning will only hurt the school, students can, will and have moved on. Checkmate... Tip: Before enrolling in a class do research on the professor whose teaching it. Use google, rate my professor, other sites and ask around! Some of these professors make u take tests that are not based on the book or their lectures and u will surely fail. They don’t care about failing more than half the class. Try to Stick to professors with good reputations otherwise they will fail you without hesitation even if u should have passed. Also at the end of each semester there are surveys. These surveys are important! They go to a higher up who will review ur thoughts on how the professors did for the semester. If the professor was awful please give details and hopefully we can get rid of all the bad apples with the truth.

Albany State is a an excellent University. Currently the number one public Historically Black University in Georgia, ASU is growing even more diverse with the addition of Albany State West Campus. The environment at ASU is small enough that you can fit in, and it's large enough that you can be unique. There are many things to get involved in on campus such as professional clubs, greek life, intramural sports, DII/NJCC athletics, social clubs, etc. ASU offers an array of degrees on the Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Specialist, and Certificate levels. The now two campus University offers many workforce related degrees and certificates as well as field related undergraduate and graduate degrees. The professors are experts in their field and they want the best for every student. They are always willing to mentor students who expresses interest in their field. The cost is very affordable for students in and out of state compared to larger state Universities. ASU has alumni all over the world in fields like: Medicine, Law, International and National Business/Accounting, Fine Arts, Forensics, television/radio Mass Media and Entertainment, Pro Sports, Government, etc.

Awesome undergrad and grad experience!!!! Wouldn’t trade it for the world

Recent Grad . Albany State is what you make of it . I had some good times . Best state HBCU in Georgia . Southern hospitality is great , new facilities / dorms, athletics is a plus , helpful staff , and the night life is ecstatic .

Jonathan Post

I didn't know growing up ASU was a HBCU (not from this part of the state) and I find it to be a underutilized resource here. Whether you love it or hate it our role in the Civil Rights Movement as a community is what we have that could draw in tourism dollars and supporting ASU in their research is part of furthering that goal. I went to the Homecoming game this year and had a blast. Let's embrace this as Albany's college instead of worrying about losing the "prestige" of a historically white community college.

Cherie Benjamin

Do NOT! do NOT DO NOT! dO NOT!!!go to this SCHOOl!! Terrible administration, president and ASUPD and education. I'm telling youit's not worth it.go somewhere else .. there's a reason enrollment is low

Chazmen Geames

Albany State University has absolutely amazing. The Fraternity and Sorority life really operates like a caring family/ Community. The Student Union was a Pleasant surprise. From the food options, to the games and the layout was great to see. Would love to go back and see more what the campus has to offer

Anon

This isn't a good school. The best students have 3.0s. The out-of-state tuition is a joke. The endowment is a quarter of those at decent schools. Please choose a good HBCU, like Howard, or Georgia publics before this institution.

This has been one of the worst experiences I have ever experienced with a college! No one knows ANYTHING that is happening between departments or within their own department at that. Everyone this was around to help has been less than helpful with the worst attitudes (not including the library staff, east hall RAs, and Chick-fil-a workers). Every other college has some kind of organization this college has none. We have been here since 9 this morning. She just got her keys at 3pm. We’ve been trying to do things in between but we have been given the runaround. no one knows anything about getting her ID card. No one knows about getting her schedule. No one can talk to us about the horrible living situation. She is sharing a room with two other people with no space. I urge anyone who is considering this school to reconsider. This is not a happy college experience and no one should be subjected to this foolishness. STAY AWAY!!!!!

Alexis Calloway

This school is an unprofessional joke! It was ok when it was Darton one semester I was there for. I messed up coming here for my Last year. The staff is ghetto and money hungry especially registration and financial aid! I should have stayed at Savannah State they are lazy as heck, ghetto and care nothing about students. They messed up my courses, dropped me out of the wrong class and didn’t even place me back in until the LAST week of school but I’m taking the fall for it, wgeb it is THEIR FAULT! I am working on doing everything I can to report this messy staff to higher authority. Go elsewhere with your education !

Im at a lost for words with this place, I applied here over a year ago and my admission status is in limbo. I sent my transcript here over 3 months ago and they still have not reviewed it or acknowledged that they have gotten it, when you call admissions you wait for over a hour, Im trying to enter the lpn to rn bridge program but at this rate im going to miss the deadline again!

Was advised to be at the school at 9am took a 4 hour drive to bring my brother to school & the administration didn't have him registered yet , we waited "hours" for an acceptance letter to come to his email so that he could register for his dorm which we were supposed to receive by 2pm ,which never came(the approval for his acceptance letter to be submitted took so long because the person reviewing his paper work from high school to confirm his credits, which he had to have faxed 4 times wasn't looking at the correct information since MAY !!) so the day before he was supposed to arrive she FINALLY got everything done & when we arrived his acceptance still hadn't been approved , so now the staff is saying wait until 9PM ?,for an acceptance letter ,the administration is extremely unprofessional & inconsiderate ,they inconvienced our family . My first impression of this "university" is horrible !!

THIS SCHOOL DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS!!! Compared to other colleges ASU is so UNORGANIZED. Work orders take months to get fixed. The food is Always horrible. Pizza Hut and Subway always run out of food. They never have anything and they are always so slow. it takes 30 mins to get a personal pan pizza. Housing is a mess; some students are homeless because its bed bugs in there room. South hall has mold in there building and only 3 out of 7 washers work. Its a hassle to wash with 200 people in one building and it just seems like nobody cares about us. Last semester it took 4 months to receive my student refund check while it took other colleges 1 month. They kicked students out of school the first month for having a balance on there account but it took them 4 months to pay students their money. (We even made it to the news for having slow financial aid. ) I wont be returning, this school is slow when it comes to fixing problems but when it comes to them getting paid they have no issues kicking students out.

Kayla C

Kyasia Cockfield

school is unorganized when it comes to classes, schedules, housing, and don’t forget financial aid. Advising has no information on anything when you ask about your department or who is who. 9/10 they give you the run around and just tell you anything. If you want professionalism go elsewhere!

Devondra

One negative experience after another since the "merge" of the schools. There are much better options available. The "newly formed" financial aid department is a complete and unprofessional joke. Please consider other more sufficient options for your educational endeavors.

MANDY SMITH-CORBETT

ASU doesn't even deserve 1 star. This place is terrible. DO NOT go to this school. The financial aid employees are so rude. The representative I spoke with was screaming at me. Turns out, she was wrong. It has been something every semester with financial aid. The list just goes on.
