Visited the annual Poinsettia Sale at The Horticulture Club's Fifield Hall on 12/11/14. The thousands of plants on display and for sale, were absolutely gorgeous. We were told that students and volunteers would be available to answer questions and handle sales. We met a woman - whose name I forget - who was a retired biologist who'd worked at the Univ. FL. She was volunteering and was outstanding! She answered many questions we'd asked regarding growing poinsettias. She made the day with her knowledge and enthusiasm! The students handling the sale were prompt and helpful. Our only concern was we were unaware that they only accepted cash/checks. If that was included in any of the advertising, we would have brought more cash so we could have bought more plants. They were magnificent!!

A school filled with opportunities if you are persistent in looking for them. There is an incredible amount of organizations and student programs available, and you could go out and make your own if you would like to. Many professors are involved in research and are sometimes willing to give undergraduate volunteers/work-study students a valuable experience. In my experience as a computer science major, professors or TAs are willing to help during their various office hours. Some professors should be less vague with the expectations they have of their students, but overall this a quality school with a great future ahead of it. The school can also be pretty aesthetically pleasing in some spots, which is a nice added bonus.

I was one of the applicants for one of their graduate programs. After submitting my application, I emailed them several times and they never replied. I tried to call their department several times, and they either didn't pick up the phone calls or didn't provide helpful information. I knew by the time that I shouldn't have applied to them. When they finally declined my application, they don't even try to address my name. They put "Dear Applicant," in the email as if I don't have a name. It's not the rejection that make me upset, it's how they handle applicants. I got rejected politely by some schools and I wasn't upset because they replied my emails quickly every single time and offer me helps through the application process. I have 3.95 GPA and a publication published in my undergrad study. I got into some top 50 private schools' graduation programs. I don't recommend anyone to apply to their graduate program because I don't think they really review your application carefully at all.

When I got to UF it felt like the REAL deal. I had the misfortune of growing up in Tallahassee and did not realize that it was the Bush leagues. I am not solely talking sports. UF is a very academically challenging school. I had thought about going to FSU but realized I had good grades and a high SAT score, which made me eligible for Gatorland:). Hello Florida!! When I would go back home, my friends that chose(?) FSU seemed to have little to no academic challenges. Then again, none of these people had applied themselves in high school. As far as an overall University, Florida is easily in the Top 5 among state schools across the nation.

In high school I had been selected to be part of the All-Star Marching Band program (late 70’s), and spent most of a week practicing for the show and touring the campus. I remember a lot of red brick buildings & visiting an on-campus watering hole called the Orange & Brew! I also remember catching my first whiff of what was known then as the ‘Gainesville Green’! One of the music selections for the show was the ‘STAR WARS March’ arranged for marching band and I spent some time while there collecting copies - some transcribed by hand - of all the instrument parts so that our band back home could play it! I also remember the late night trip back home to Bradenton & running into some car trouble, which was assuaged by the fact that I had a CB radio installed and the local authorities helped us contact my Mom for help! Quite the adventure! I later visited the campus again with an eye on attending but opted instead to continue my post-high school education a little closer to home. Still, it was a great place to spend time and will always remember my experience!

I hate this school so much they only cater to spoiled little rich kids whose parents pay for everything. If you're a working student, forget it. I work full time and had a difficult time with academic advising when I needed it, and they were unable to work with me and my work schedule to fit me in for an appointment. Because of that, I don't have all the classes I need, I won't graduate on time, I have to be part time this semester, and I may even end up with drawling from this stupid university. I would not recommend going here to any sane person, not to mention the town sucks. Stick to state colleges with affordable classes and advisors who are actually nice and willing to work with you.

My experience at UF turned out to be everything I dreamed it would be. I received a GREAT education. I majored in Family, Youth, & Community Sciences. I cannot speak for every college, but in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences the professors invest in their students. I really appreciate the diversity that UF's campus has. Everyone can find a sorority/fraternity, club, or friend group that relates to them. I was scared coming to a school with 50,000 students, but I made friends that will last a lifetime. UF is also very affordable! I'm pretty sure it's one of the cheapest universities in Florida and also the best (#1)!

Located in central Gainesville this campus of UF is archtectually interesting- filled with many diverse styled red brick buildings that provide thought and inspiration. As a graduate student I had a some very inspiring professors who as leaders in their fields willingly would give advice and guidence. I feel UF contributed to my devlopment and highly recommend it to others.Housing and food were available and affordable. The location was great with friendly people everywhere.I really loved the weather. Shands Hospital is affiliated with UF and one of the most highly rated in the state. And don't forget the UF Gator team spirit is everywhere.

They need to have a few more advisors available for their Engineering College and Medical College. It is very difficult to get in to see someone. It takes them up to 3 months for anyone to get back with you. The housing office needs to be more efficient and helpful. Other than that, it is a great college. If you graduate from UF, you will definitely be able to find a job.

* Very disorganized system overall. * Unprofessional advisors and other staff. * Poorly designed website and mobile app that only work about half the time. * Shady policies and sneaky charges. * Tuition is pretty steep compared to other state schools. * Lots of campus disturbances. * Lots of public disturbances. Aside from the incompetent staff and surprise fees, the campus is filled with obnoxious political campaigning and activism, and the weekends clog the streets with endless traffic jams during football games and leave the streets filled with trash and neighboring properties vandalized the next morning. It seems impossible to get even the simplest questions answered in fewer than 2 months, 7 phone calls, 5 transfers per call, 4 snippy attitudes, 2 unanswered emails, 3 unreturned voicemails, and 1 threat to charge you extra money for some random and obscure fee for everything you do. The educational quality is on par with any typical university, but overall it's not a pleasant experience. Actually, I can summarize life at UF with one experience: I wanted to register for a class, but I can't do that myself. I have to have an advisor do it for me. So I tried to call my advisor, and reached a receptionist who offered to schedule a 30-minute phone appointment with my advisor in 2 months. THAT is the level of bureaucratic garbage you have to look forward to at UF.

One Name Aaron Hernandez tells the story of the University of Fla. The University chose to cover up serious crimes he was involved in as opposed to allowing the judicial system to address the situation and expel him from the school permanently. Additionally, the Coach and Adminstration as well as any other parties involved should have been fired and not allowed to work on a collegiate level nor with minors in any situation . Yet again a college focuses on male althletics as opposed to education and helping students who dream of going to college but face one challenge or another which is something that can be overcome with the right support. Aaron is at fault and those around him for not getting help when he had a life changing moment when his father passed but in the end U of F could have at least eliminated the option to attend the university which may have resulted in him not going on to the pros and possibly getting the help he needed.

Dear crispy butter fried biscuits, I adore this school. They're going to have to drag me off campus kicking and screaming once I graduate. (But like, not during graduation, because that would be awkward.) Beautiful campus, unbeatable academics, challenging curriculum (I mean, at least in the College of Journalism and Communication--Weimer Hall all day, every day). . . I'm surprised every day by the abundance of resources. Some Universities today are the biggest scam going. I contacted the university Bachelors of Arts Department about their Biology program online Wednesday, April 30, 2014. On Wednesday they claim to be short on staff. So ,I got an assistant counselor. She had a very pompous attitude , She spoke to me in very demeaning tone. She said changing majors would not be permitted at this university. The university should subscribe to test calls to all of the departments. Some employees seem to not care. Apparently ,the university accepts poor service to the public and students, She was rude and abrupt. Please don’t be surprised if you are mistreated. And staff not very helpful. Keep your dreams alive…

There is nothing like the University of Florida experience. I currently live near Wake Forest University in NC (one of NC's best schools), and UF just puts them to utter shame in so many ways. UF has a great student body, high energy and passion; a beautiful campus in a whimsical city that maintains a unique and fun ambiance. Overall, go to UF for the experience and feeling of community. I did not even bother attending this university since the minute I walked in the door everyone looked at me with dollar signs in their eyes. I attended another PUBLIC UNIVERSITY for my undergraduate and UF gave me grief about my courses. On top of that I never even registered for classes and they went ahead and pulled financial aid and set a disbursement date. The ramification of this was the university I actually planned to attend did not have access to these funds - I had to take higher cost loans instead. The Florida higher education system is a mess - bunch of money hungry fools.

We've been on 3 college tours now and this school by far was the best. I took a tour with my daughter a week ago and was very impressed. The 2 tour guides we had were very knowledgeable about everything. The campus gave us that small town feel. It was also clean and very well kept up. Very impressive especially since part of it was built back in the 1920's. We also got the impression that there was a lot of school spirit and pride. Looking forward to seeing my daughter become a Gator.

Great campus, great University, great school (School of Architecture and Fine Arts, as it was named when I attended; #1 in Fla/16th in nation at this writing, including Ivy-League schools). Stayed on to get a graduate degree at UF as well. Y'all missed out on the Rat (Rathskeller), burned down, shame, an actual om-pa-pa German beer hall replete with wood-beams, pub atmosphere, and visiting entertainment groups. Maybe you'll be that student that drives a petition to have it rebuilt. Fed the gators in Lake Alice marschmellows off the dock, loved them, came from everywhere, thought they were eggs, illegal now. For those looking for a college, would certainly recommend a tour of UF. A variety of majors to chose from that demand high academic scholarship and are recognized by the business community because of it- a choice of engineering disciplines, business, medical & dental, journalism, law. Huge campus containing many pleasant outdoor settings for studying, including a few water-filled sinks (ponds) surrounded by amphitheater-like natural stone seating, encompassed and shaded by spanish moss laden live-oaks and semi-tropical foliage. Peace in the midst of a harried pace; perfect for quite study or just decompressing. Sense of old world Florida charm relaxing in a natural setting like that. Many extracurriculars. Free exercise facilities, gyms, courts, fields, pools. An 18-hole golf course on campus (not free). Many free services including health care. UF also has satellite campuses around state, ex: in Keys, etc. Of course the NCAA programs deserve mention- UF is only Div 1 college in last ten years to win national championships in football, basketball and baseball (CWS). Many natural attractions a short drive from Gainesville for weekend day trips- Devil's Millhopper, Ichetucknee, Silver Springs, Crescent Beach, Cedar Key, Suwannee, Crystal River, many springs, much, much more. For the student who dives, or would like to learn, the best fresh-water springs in the US are close by. While at UF I went ahead and got my SCUBA certification, not a curriculum course, open to anyone. Pool instruction was conducted at one of the pools on campus and the open-water was held at a nearby spring. Don't swim in Lake Alice.

Wow, people work their butt off to get in here and it's a complete waste. Staff and advisors are incredibly unprofessional. This is a university they don't care about education they care about how much money they can make off your back. Campus is unsafe and scary environment. Don't even think about parking on campus because you will be towed within a matter of minutes. Don't waste your time, or financial aid money attending this institution because they do not care about your education, only the money they can make off of you.

Parking is terrible. Do not drive to campus. If you own a car, don't use. Leave it at your parent's house and walk. The parking facility people themselves told me that the commuter lots fill up by 9:30 in the morning. With this many students at the school, and a lack of on-campus housing, it is a mystery why they don't construct sufficient parking.

Five star all the way. It has everything you need in a collage. Great teacher, super football team. Plenty of place to live while near campus. Also tons for restaurants to get your hunger tamed.

I paid a visit to the university with some family friends, and I was very impressed. If you're ever in Gainesville, consider paying a visit to the University of Florida (UF). The university is incredibly exquisite and it gives you the feeling of living in a palace or a gated community.

They also have a gift shop and walking tours but the most intresting thing about it is that all the students were focused on school
