I was staying at the campground next door, and finally got around to taking a tour. We had originally stopped into the "original" Amish Welcome Center with the big sign out front, and thought the other Amish Welcome Center across the street were part of the same business. The owner was nice, but told us that they were not affiliated, and that the one across the street (with all the flags on top) were a just a group of "out of state investors," and that they had no clue about the local Amish. She also mentioned that the Amish Museum wasn't really an Amish farm, that we would see plenty of Amish farms on a wagon ride, and that it was also owned by a group of investors who didn't know a thing about Amish culture. Come to find out...THIS COULD NOT BE MORE FALSE!
There are no "investors", it's family owned and operated...and they live here! The Amish Museum was AMAZING! You will never be able to see inside a real Amish house, or school during a wagon tour. Our Museum tour guide was from here, and grew up among the Amish. She was super knowledgeable, and there was so much history inside. It was like visiting my great grandma's house out in the country. We really learned a lot about local Amish culture. Plus we got to take pics inside a real Amish house, school, and Amish buggy!
I don't know why the other business went out of their way to say things that just are NOT true, and bad mouth this place. I'm sure they tell everyone what they told us, and that's a shame. I hope it doesn't stop others from taking a tour and having a once in a lifetime experience!
