WONDERFUL experience...a MUST DO!

Wanted to do a tour of the island while in Hilton Head, and this was the one we found. It seemed to have good reviews. And it was interesting. But I was a little disappointed. The Gullah culture is interesting, and I was happy to learn more about it, but I was hoping for a little more balanced information about the island in general. It also was about 2 hours, which included a few spot when the bus was just sitting still, which seemed somewhat unnecessary, and almost just to draw it out longer. The guide was personable, but again, there seemed to be a lot of fluff time, not really providing tour info. I probably would have rather spent that time and money doing other thing had I better understood what it would be like. I usually like to post pictures with my reviews. But I actually didn't see anything worth taking pictures of during this tour. It wasn't bad; just not recommending it.

We decided to do something different this year so decided on a tour. I was not familiar with the Gullah so this was definitely a great chance to learn the history of the island. Melvin was our guide and was very informative and had interesting stories and a good sense of humor. We went to parts of the island I didn't even know existed and there were some things we've driven past without even noticing. I'll notice those things next time we're there. Mitchellville was interesting to me and learning about the indigo bottles. I would definitely recommend this tour, and if you get Melvin, you're in for a treat! "Ohio".

Being a person who loves traveling and exploring new places, Gullah islands were the best place I have visited along with Hilton Head islands. There I have enjoyed the scenic beauty of the place and also learned a lot about the captivating history of the Gullah tribes who are now enjoying a free lifestyle from more than a century. With this company my vacation was very memorable and amazing as they have arranged everything for us in the best possible manner. I will definitely recommend this company to others for satisfactory services.

This lively and informative tour is a must-do for visitors to Hilton Head and the surrounding area. Our tour guide, Irvin, grew up on Hilton Head and capitivated us with a blend of island history and personal stories while driving us to see places of importance to the Gullah people. By the end of the tour, we had an appreciation for the stories of some of the island's oldest families and how the unique experiences of enslaved Africans on the Atlantic Sea Islands fit into the bigger picture of American history.

We had a wonderful experience in Hilton Head. I booked a tour with Gullah Heritage Trail Tours for me, my wife and the children. Not that they were excited at first but, the tour itself had us hooked! There is so much we did not know. The guide was jovial and he answered each of my children’s questions happily. We were very happy.

The Gullah tour is an important part of the History of Hilton Head. My guide was energetic and very informative. Take the time to explore the rest of Honey Horn as well as the Jarvis Park.

Gullah Heritage Trail Tours sent me on an amazing 2 hour journey through the Hilton Head Island and the Gullah Corridor. The bus stopped at the beach, which was great! It was fabulous learning about the well-preserved Gullah Culture. Thanks to our tour guide and driver, we got to learn a lot about a period and a place so richly entwined with history.

Julie Davidson

Thought the tour wasn't really worth $32 a person. Should be more hands on. The guide was good

I am usually not adventurous, but I decided not to pass on the opportunity to explore a new land, culture, and tradition. So I decided to visit Hilton Head island, home to an authentic culture of West African People. I traversed the land with a guide of Hilton Head Trail Tours. He helped me explore the history of the place and learn the creole language. Thank you for always being with me all throughout the tour!

Frank Glover

A great look into the history of Hilton Head, and its longest residents, the Gullah. Our guide David was phenomenal. Taught us about the culture, and the history of Hilton Head, most of which you can't get in any history book. About not only the who's and what's, but how it was to grow up in Hilton Head in the first half of the 20th century. If you like history, this tour is a must!

This tour was amazing ! Our guide Melvin whom was born and raised on what was once 50 acres of Gullah land was great. I learned so much about the history of the land and Gullah people. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

I thought there would be more of a variety of vendors. The food concessions were great. I purchased two hand painted prints. Met the artist. Within an hour I had visited each vendor. I'm going to the Gullah festival in Beaufort, S C in May. I will compare.

Just got off the bus. This tour was most informative and at the same time so much fun! Our tour guide, Ervin, was born on Hilton Head, which made his story so personal. He was engaging and eager to share his knowledge. It was worth every penny!

We called ahead to confirm the time, someone told us to be sure to be there before 10 to get tickets. We drove an hour , arrived at 9:45 and then were told tour was cancelled because they only had 3 people and needed four. Unbelievable! Wouldn't recommend this tour to anyone. We've wasted time, gas and now are stuck trying to figure out what else to do here. They were not apologetic and asked us to come back at 2 Which I'm definitely NOT going to do.

Terrie Watson

Quiet place and very interesting. People are very friendly.
