REVIEWS OF Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center IN Pennsylvania

Bill Robertson

Awe inspiring, beautiful and yet tear jerking place. Walking through the place, surrounded by heroes, I felt humbled. Although I will ultimately be interned at another military cemetery within the US, I appreciate that this place is treated as hallowed grounds, and that those interned here are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. I wish I could have had another 4 hours here to walk around, see more site where brothers are buried, as the place is huge, and the terrain is on hills. I recommend the tram tours which do allow you to get on/off at various locations to spend as much time at sites throughout the cemetery. While there, make sure you visit the US Marine Corps Memorial across the street, which is a 10 minute walk.

Louis DiFilippantonio

This was a wonderful historic tour of battle grounds and sites. It is just full of real American history

Brenda Barton

Gettysburg is he best there is so much to do there .... I loved the bus tour through the battlefield . If I have a chance everyone should visit Gettysburg... A great piece of history there

Sun Lee

Rangers were knowledgeable and very helpful. Interesting artifacts on display. AC was nice and cold on a 90+ degree day. Abundant parking, but you may have to walk a ways if you end up in an overflow lot. Tour busses were modern with cold AC and were running on schedule. Nice scheduled history tours. About a mile and a half from the off ramp.

Robert Stearns

Rangers were knowledgeable and very helpful. Interesting artifacts on display. AC was nice and cold on a 90+ degree day. Abundant parking, but you may have to walk a ways if you end up in an overflow lot. Tour busses were modern with cold AC and were running on schedule. Nice scheduled history demos. Ticket sales for tours were orderly.

Edward Dooney

Really excellent and very surreal feeling to stand on such a historic part of American history. You have the choice to buy a cd with a narrator and drive the site by yourself which is what i did. You can get some really beautiful photos on top of the lookout towers so enjoy your experience

Martha Bidnick

It was so interesting to learn about our history. Great place to do that!

Alyssa Witte

Great day trip! Make sure you plan for the whole day as there are many stops. It can get a bit crowded, so make sure to visit the visitor center and museum early. You have to pay for the museum and the cyclorama, but it’s definitely worth the money.

Jacob Metcalfe

Open and easy to navigate. Video was very cool with Morgan Freeman. Makes history fun.

deborah wade

Great place. Everybody needs to go here. It will humble you.

Adrian Wilhelmsen

Amazing and humbling. Make sure you plan for at least a couple of days if not more. Lots to see in the park and the town of Gettysburg is a great place to see some sites and meet good, nice people.

Jody Guffey

Awesome! You need more than 1 day though, so much to see and not enough time.

Tricia Thompson

Just waking through and seeing the drum, knowing that a young boy walked in to battle with nothing to defend himself gave me goosebumps and just pulled at my heart. The prices are a little high but I understand the money is for the park. God Bless the USA!

Tim Clapp

Took a licensed battlefield guided tour and it truly enhance our visit to one of the most thought provoking places in our country. Our guide, George Madori was exceptional!

Grab-N-Go History

Great visitor center with great presentations. Highly recommend the Winter Lecture series. Many fantastic historians all over the park. I've studied Gettysburg for over 25 years and this weekend I walked away learning even more. To truly appreciate American history one needs the Gettysburg experience

Karen Reardon

I'd give it five stars, but we didn't get there in time to do any tours or the movie, but the exhibits were cool and we did drive by the battlefield itself, so we weren't terribly disappointed for an unplanned, last minute stop. Highly recommend getting there early so you can do everything!

Madelin O'Brien

As someone who gets bored easily in museums, this was extremely engaging and well curated. Myself and the other three people I was visiting with all agreed that this contributed to the huge amount that we all learnt and will remember about the civil war. The logical order of the exhibits and the videos made it really easy to understand.

Albert Thurber

I must see if you're ever in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. Extremely educational and solemn. A great learning experience of what this country went through

Don Hogge

Nice museum that does a good job telling the story of the three day battle. Displays and movies were well done. Well worth the visit.

Lindsay Bouchard

Moving and special. Definitely see the movie available and the cyclorama. Came away with a better sense and respect for those who fought to free our nation and it's people.

Robert Albrecht

Nice place, lots to see inside the museum. No discounts for military or seniors in the book store. Restaurant was good, thought water bottles were overpriced.

May Girl

Loved the film.. made me cry... the tour was amazing, even though the guide picked on me .. New York he calls me ..didn't know much about the Gettysburg history. But with him calling me ..I learned a lot.. thank you say hi to biscuit and gravy.

Sayak Dasgupta

One of the most iconic places in US history. The town is very well preserved. Well worth a day's trip. Would have stayed longer if we had the time.

Erika Stacy

Awesome time! Lots to see. The movie was excellent. The cyclorama was beautiful. The museum was full of interesting artifacts. Reasonable price, friendly staff, clean environment. Very happy to do this!

Tammy Mannion

Very wet and cold day. However George our tour guide was outrageous we had a great day. So informative no question he could not answer. Wonderful with the kids.

Maik De Bresser

As a European, we don't learn much about US history. It was wonderful to visit such a historic site. I can recommend the 2 hour bus tour. All the extra information from the guide makes the whole experience more impressive.

Doug Crockett

Amazing! The cyclorama/film and museum are top notch. Paid $15 each and worth it. Plan at least 3 hours to do it justice. More time is better. I suggest seeing this place first...prior to the actual battlefield, for context and perspective.

Sandy Curtis

I was so impressed with the guide we had, with the museum, with the panoramic pictures in the center as well as the battlefirlds.

David

If you love history and crave to know why we're the country we are today, one visit will only whet your appetite. You'll go back.

Bay Walker

Excellent. Recommended. Go with the intent to learn about the past... not to be entertained.

William Duff

Great place if you are a civil war history buff. Huge book store, museum and movies. Also bus tours of the battlefield and another that goes to Eisenhower's farm. We picked up a map for the tour by car which is well marked.

Samuel Ascioti

An amazing piece of American history. The battlefield is very well maintained and very accessible for all ages. My wife and I hiked the Johnny Reb (~4 miles, about 2.5 hours) and Billy Yank (>10 miles, about 6 hours) trails on separate days and loved it. The guidebooks for those hikes are for Boy Scouts, but anyone can use them, and the guidebooks are for sale for $2 at the museum store. The rest of Gettysburg is a typical tourist town, filled with stores selling the usual overpriced knickknacks, but the battlefield is the absolute centerpiece. EVERY American should spend time at Gettysburg.

Betsy Barnicle

Always has some special educational or entertaining events above and beyond the exceptional museum. Honors the fallen who gave their lives. Lots of room to maneuver. Highly knowledgeable staff.

Alan Chesleigh

You can feel the history here. Everything in the park is well marked and extremely informative. The maps and layout make it easy to follow the battle and see every part of the history of these battle grounds. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and everyone was helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend this for anyone interested in learning about this piece of American history.

Johnathan Carter

Frequent visitor, I advise getting the CD for driving through the entire area. Very clean, lots of historical markers, exhibits, museums and stores.

Ned M.

Get ready to see way more plaques than you could ever read! Very interesting, though. I'd recommend getting an audio guide for the auto tour.

Paul & Patty Miele

Great history and great little town. Was away on business and met my family there for Easter to spend the day together. Was a good memory. Lots of stuff to do.

Melanie

Great place to bird watch if it's not tourist season.I always have a good time here just wasting time taking photos. I'm more interested in the nature aspect of the battlefield and the habitats within than the actual monuments, plaques etc ..

Twilight Obsessed

Great place to visit unless you are handicapped. The handicap parking was about three blocks away from the center. Did not seem very handicap friendly in my opinion.

Carole DeWall

Excellent collection of visuals to explain the causes and effects of the war. The initial movie and cyclorama are superb. The actual museum is extensive and can be confusing to navigate properly, however.

Gregory Stiller

This place is Huge. Can't see it in a day. Miles of streets and roads lined with Monument's and Memorials. Largest visitors center I've been to. Get your map, take driving tour and enjoy the sites. See the Cemetery . Special Place.

Marina Dale

Excellent Junior Ranger programs for kids. I didn't like how most places were paid admission. Most National Parks have free access to museums, but you have to pay to see almost everything. The food was overpriced and not too good. I didn't like how there was no difference to completing to entire book verses parts of the book. Other sites give a extra badge or pin. This did not inspire my kids to push for more.

Chris Kalfa

A wonderful and informative place, many preserved original pieces in amazing shape. Outstanding staff and guides.

Evan Holmberg

Fortunately on my trip to DC I was blessed during this part with a great guide. He kept everyone attentive and involved and made it a very interesting experience. Being from lower Michigan, the landscape was so much different than back home but it was beautiful. It was a very enlightening experience as a history buff to be there. I loved it. The gift shop was my only critique because of how overpriced everything was.

Kimberly Patzner

So much to see. The museum, movie and cyclorama are great. The auto tour awesome. We bought the audio program and really enjoyed it

Niki Fleischman

Amazing space, good museum, many tours available. We've visited twice and look forward to visiting again.

Peter Oakes

Great experience! Not sure why we never stopped here before. Cyclroma A+++

Julie Bosman

Museum is a must! Recommend the film and cyclorama as well. So much history. Can take 1 hour or all day depending on what you want to do.

Mark Bergren

Stunning civil war battlefield, knowledgeable rangers, great museum. Make sure you also visit the National cemetery there.

Amanda Cochran

Awesome experience. Great tour and the Cyclorama left me speechless again. Every time I see it, I see something new and am in awe of the details.

Monique Egan

Extremely educational! So much history to browse and take in. Dave, our tour guide, was so good with our group! He made things very interactive and engaged our group with questions while also answering questions of our own. So worthwhile to go see. The battle was pivotal in the development of our nation. Walking the grounds is a must to get a feel for the bloodiest battle of the Civil War.

Linda Azzarello

If you were not part of the real battle, them you must go to Gettysburg to see about the past. Put on your walking shoes, and bring water. It is BIG

Ma'am Fitzgerald

Very neat the visitor center is nice. Thank goodness for the maps & the studio CD (you can get at the visitor center store.) - if you do the tour on your own. The monuments are really cool. The historic landmarks are so surreal. The houses along the route are just beautiful. If you have time & money... you may want to do the bus tour. We're headed one behind us... it looked fun!! **make sure you start you tour very early in the day. (So you have enough time & daylight) Make sure you have your camera & batteries enough media storage for pictures. Enjoy the walk/ drive through history. Enjoy the pictures.

Matthew Dietzenbach

We took a free ranger tour. He was fabulous! We learned a lot and he could easily answer any questions we had. We wished you could buy just the movie tickets but that is not an option. We downloaded the app for the audio tour and that was fabulous also. Expect to spend nearly 4-5hrs if you do the whole park.

Christopher Twomey

If you come to Gettysburg take the time to take a tour or maybe just drive around and read some of the monuments and plaques. You will come away changed. Such a beautiful, peaceful place now ... it's unimaginable what took place here.

Carl K.

It's an honor and very humbling to visit this famous battlefield. The books I've read and movies I've seen don't do it justice. Seeing the places I've only read about bring it to life. The site is well presented. The main building is well laid out and holds a wealth of information about the events that took place here. Easy to park. The driving tour was well laid out and easy to follow and featured the major sites every history buff and student would want to see.

Dakota Goldsberry

Very nice. Can be expensive if you want to do anything in terms of tours... especially eat anything...but still very nice. It is handicap accessible. All the staff are very helpful as well. The walking trails are nicely upkept.

Terry Schorr

Fantastic time!! To hear what the battle conditions were like was amazing and humbling. The movie and painting viewing were awesome. If you want to tour the park later they open it up for a drive tour after 6 for free. The museum is a must do. It is really well done.

Larry C White

It's a really nice place. It's huge. A lot of things to see and enjoy. There's many videos depicting the Civil War. I'm going back tomorrow for the bus tour of the battlegrounds. I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys history and America.

John Nellis

One of the best preserved battlefields of the Civil War. You can really feel the history. If you go on a guided tour with a Ranger or certified guide it really brings the history alive.

Josh Anderson

Everyone in America should visit this battlefield once. People don't understand quite how important Gettysburg was to the future of America as we know it. The park is really well laid out with lots of information posted around about the area. Also guided tours and an AMAZING museum are on the grounds.

Heather V

I was sick the whole time I was there and I still enjoyed myself. Such an important piece of American history that is being preserved so well.

Ethan Harlacher

I have visited here a few times and there is always something new to take in with each visit. I had the opportunity to take my wife the last time and she was enthralled by it too. Fall is one of the most beautiful times to visit the area. If you have the opportunity, walk the site. You will gain so much more than driving around the battlefield.

James Cannon

Pretty incredible experience. And so many stops! I highly suggest a guided tour of some sort. The "battlefield" is miles wide, and without an in-depth knowledge of the three day confilct here, it would be impossible to see everything. Everything here is well-maintained, there are plenty of places you can walk through and stand where the troops stood. The visitors center is top-notch, worth the admission for the movie and cyclorama. One of best national parks I've seen.

Kathy DeLuca

A great place for history lovers. Something for everyone to enjoy

Mr. D

Amazing place to see. The battlefields are very humbling to see where so many soldiers from both sides gave their lives for their cause. The guided tour is the best so you can get the information about each place.

Michelle Le Teigner

The first time I went to the Gettysburg National Military park was in the 1980's. The second time was in about 2003. Not much had happened that I could see between the 1980's and 2003. Now in 2019 I made my third trip here with my husband and our kids. I was blown away at the amount of change between 2003 and 2019. There is plenty of parking surrounding the main visitor center. And the visitor center is fantastic. It was so clean I actually commented to one of the park rangers that I hadn't been there since 2003 and they must have just put up the building last year or something. He laughed and said, "No, ma'am, it's been here since 2008!" They have done an amazing job maintaining it because it looks brand new. The restrooms are sparkling clean. This is what what all American historical sites should be like. It shows pride in what we have accomplished as a nation and it shows the pride of the good people of Gettysburg in the monument they maintain in their own backyard. The architecture on the visitor center is also amazing because it looks like someone built a "newer" barn onto an older stone structure/house. I thought that it was really, really old but just well updated and maintained, but as I said above it's from 2008. Good job to the architect for coming up with a design that fits so beautifully into the landscape and is so befitting the time in history that it represents. With two little kids (currently 4 and 10) I dread going into gift shops. They usually sell cheap junk that falls apart sometimes before we even get home with it. Another pleasant surprise at Gettysburg...the Civil War Soldiers toy sets that we gave each one of them were nicely made, and sturdy enough to still be "alive and well" a month later, through multiple pretend battles, historical reenactments, and plenty of "carnage." ;) Regarding the auto tour; my husband is a history buff. He LOVED it. We stopped at every stop and listened to the entire audio commentary. Our 10 year old is also a history buff but the audio and the car trip started to wear on him. This is why the kids "earned" the Civil War toy soldiers...the day was L O N G. I also enjoyed listening to the audio commentary but it did get long for me, too. If you're going to do the full auto tour, plan to make a day of it, and bring plenty of drinks and snacks in the car--especially if you have young children. At one point I did wish that we would have let them bring some books or coloring books from home because by the fourth hour of listening they were about to climb the walls. All-in-all, we are very glad we made a point of going there with the kids and taking the tour. It's very well done, and worth the trip. A little planning for little kids will go a very long way here, and is well worth it. Just remember to bring snacks, plenty of water, and definitely a good quality camera. The scenery here is absolutely beautiful.

Steve Harris

Was first time at the visitor center since 2006. Always an inspiring and moving experience, but the new 2008 visitor center is awesome and so much information!!!

Jessica Taylor

Wonderful historic site, easily accessible for all people, children, elderly, and thacker on need of assistance. Highly recommend the bus tour as you can see much more in a short period of time!

Sandi Benati

Did the two hours bus tour. Highly recommend as it was informative and then we visited a few of those sites on our own.

Robert Prescott

Hey highly educational stop on your East Coast trip. The cyclorama is amazing to see. The 360° painting truly illustrates the battle . The museum and the film also bring the battle of Gettysburg to life. We had a wonderful tour guide who take brought the history of Gettysburg to life. Paul was so knowledgeable and funny to boot. He really kept my students attention during the two hour tour.

Carol Lombardi

Go... Go to the museum but do a self tour through the area. We did a bus and it was just rush rush. The grounds itself is somber because you can feel the stiffness in the air. Sacred grounds for sure.

Jeremy Densmore

If you enjoy historical events this place obviously is right up your alley, there is so much to do you will definitely need more than one day to see half of everything there. Go visit you will love it!

Daniel Middleton

Spent an afternoon and the next day. We basically followed the auto tour with a few deviations. My eleven and fourteen year old kids were pretty interested. I think the auto tour misses Devil’s Den. You will probably want to add it. We broke up the battlefield tour with visits to some of the shopping areas and dining.

Sophia Hamilton

Everyone who can afford it should go to Gettysburg. It is a very impressive place, but it is only for those willing to be respectful and understand that it is hallowed ground. It is a somber reminder of what happens when we cannot put our pride away and see eye to eye with each other. It is also a testimony of how grueling and bloody the battle was. A learning experience for anyone willing to listen.

Jacqueline M Johnson

What a wonder! So educational and the Mountains are beautiful. Heart wrenching what our country went through. Also enjoyed visiting President Eisenhower's farm! Beautiful!

Joe Tibbs

In an era where all politics are polarizing, and issues of taxing and expenditure s of the federal government cause significant acrimony, it's nice to have a place that most can agree is tax dollars well spent. The park is well maintained and provides a glimpse into one of the more significant events in the US civil war. The museum is well done, but if you are on a budget you could opt for the auto tour. I'd suggest doing some research about the battle before arrival. The map you get at the visitor center provides cursory information at best.

KM L

What an amazing place to visit. Be sure to stop at the visitors center and book a bus tour! Its definitely worth it!

Karen Englar

Love to visit. So much to take in. Lucky to see a cannon reenactment.

Paige McMath

Love Gettysburg, but I feel the guided tours don't do the battlefield justice. We've always done the auto tours and it's been amazing. Having the Visitor Center being the 1st stop though is certainly misleading, and the gift shop is extremely overpriced. You can get more for less in town. I suggest stopping at the restrooms on Day 1 of the battlefield for they give you plenty of maps there at no charge. Plan a full day for the driving tour.

Hans-Martin Jäck

This a wonderful place with a lot of history. The town is wonderful and looks a bit like 1863. the museum at the visitor center is outstanding. There are mani artifacts on display. The short movies report ver objectively and unbiased the three days of the battle. A must for all US citizens and visitors from abroad.

Briann Mainville

Everyone is very knowledgeable. We watched a discussion about how they treated the injured and it was very fascinating, which means a lot since I'm not a huge history buff. The bus tour we did was also really good! He kept it entertaining as well as informative

Ann Kossman

We toured the battlefields with a ranger in pur car. It was a great way to see the sites and have the history comento life. The movie and museum are very well done.

Megan Bolser

Lots to see, do & learn here! My kids loved seeing all of the items from history & learning what happened & how it has impacted life today! Videos on the tour were very informative.

Meme Jones

We really enjoyed the battlefield in a box and care for the wounded ranger programs. The rangers were great and knowledgeable of their topics. Cafe was a little pricey but tasted ok. Museum was good. Friendly staff.

Patrick Nolan

A must see.Taje the guided tours. You can ride your bike too. Town is in middle of the battle field. Many cool sites and the historical facts are a must for kids.

Ryan Carroll

I did the vehicle your and it was amazing just seeing the battlefields and all of the monuments. There are some things to read along the way, but I'll definitely be taking the tour and doing the full experience next time.

Brent Ross

I'm sad to not rank it higher. The history and the importance deserve more. We've been to a dozen Civil War sites this year. Gettysburg has over-monatized the experience. We have a National Parks Pass, Gettysburg is the only NP not to accept it. All the other bigger sites have a cell phones tour, which you can listen to as you drive through the park. Gettysburg required you buy a CD or pay a guide to take you. They charge for the museum and the movie about the site. There were independent vendors on site selling things. Gettysburg is a cash grab

Linda Olson Snyder

This was amazing. I highly recommend the entire package. From bus tour to museum to cyclorama. It was so informative and the grounds were so beautiful. Will go back again.

D. Alex Kablack

A vast battlefield site and museum with thrilling views and exhibits. A 25 mph parkwide speed limit makes it ideal to see via bike while following the auto tour. Multiple biking and hiking opportunities to see Gettysburg as they did 150 years ago. Best times to visit are weekdays outside of late June-July if you want to avoid the crowds. The reenactments start around then and things can get very crowded.

Vance McVey

Outstanding interpative center. Excellent book store. Definitely hire the licenced guild. Well worth it.

Debbie Williams

It was a beautiful tour. We used the auto tour app. so we could spend as much time as we wanted looking. We also learned a lot of history from the auto tour. It can get a bit crowded, I imagine it depends on when you go. Took lots of pictures of the sites and beautiful landscape. So needless to say we had a wonderful time.

Lonnie Wheeler

Best of all the civil war historic sites. Start with the movie and cyclorama. Go through the museum. Then do the audio car tour. Get out and walk around to get a great perspective of the battle grounds...best for that more than any other location.

Bob Harms

We thought we would ride bikes, but we are traveling and too tired to bike the 24 mile route. I must say the theater is a good representation. We then toured by RV to see the actual landscape...

Konrad Finck

The visitors center is much improved from my last visit, probably about ten years ago. It's a great help in understanding the battlefield. Parking at the visitors center was a bit of a problem, but not huge. There could be more/better picnic areas provided. I found the entrance fee to be high.

Jeannette Lietzau

Fantastic rangers. Great place to help children/teens learn about our nation's history. See the Luthan Theological Seminary Museum in the original building, too.

Michael Schaeffer

The most hallowed ground in the United States. I am in awe of this fabulous place. Whether you do the audio tour, horseback tour or simply walk; you will encounter history at every turn and corner. The visitors center has a great bookstore that contains literature from other Civil War Battlefield Sites. Today I walked the Wheatfield and Pickets Charge where the battle of Gettysburg was decided on July 3, 1863. This place is a must see for everyone.

Bret Smothers

WOW!!!! Make sure to allow a full day or two. This place is simply amazing. Every American should visit. The audio tour put you back in time. Definitely recommend visiting and stepping back in American history.

Jenny Evers

Had an awesome time with the auto tour, you can take your time and enjoy the park at your own pace and take it all in. Huge thanks to Matt Atkinson for taking time to talk and joke with us. Really enjoy his YouTube videos

Susan Waugaman

Love the museum and cyclorama! Self guided tours through the park. Guided tours available as well as being able to purchase audio CDs or an app purchase to download to your phone.

Mitch Rew

A humbling experience to be sure. A must see if in the area. Too easily forgotten, a historical lesson highly recommended to be taught to young people so as to never repeat mistakes of the past. Top- notch guides give a blow by blow depiction of what happened where you are located. Would go again.

Amanda Morris

Sat Aug 3rd was family Ford day. Wonderfully done. Museum was free n it normally is $15 plus they had burgers n hotdogs meals for $6 n free icecream. Great day for the whole family. We enjoyed the $35 a/c 2hr bus tour. It was a wonderful day.

Michael Burmeister

Good visitors center: movie, museum, information desk, bookstore. Ranger P, especially for kids. A 1-hour Union Army enlistment & training program is especially cute.

Heather Reddin

So much history. Beautiful scenery. Lots of different options on how you can tour the battlefield. The different programs the Rangers have for everyone to learn more are really great. Only wish we had more time while we were there.

Beth Wetzel

Rangers and guides were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Sobering experience everyone should experience. The town's people were extra nice

Jennifer Furtado

Museum was great and reasonable priced. Occasionally the quote phrases on the wall and the fact sheets would blur together however. Loved how they showed the tactics used in battle.

Miguel Dias

It was a great visit. I learned so much during my visit. Trump is not the worse things that ever happened to this country, the Civil War was the lowest point in our history. And our society has always been divided and polarized... That is what I learned...

Bob Knight

Incredible Military Park with lots to view including magnificent monuments and historic battlegrounds. The Cyclorama is worth seeing. Eisenhower Farm is a site worth visiting. National Park does a great job with knowledgeable friendly people.

Tim Evans

There's a great artillery exhibit inside that's free. Multiple types of cannons used during the Civil War along with the different types of ammunition used. Includes a great video on the team that was needed to operate the cannon effectively.

Jennifer Hagen

Very informative park and well done movie experience. Explained the battle in some detail. Museum was large and I admit I skipped most of it. Cyclorama was neat and I enjoyed it immensely. Our family are not big fans of civil war history, but we still enjoyed. We did a short drive around to Culps Hill and climbed the observation tower.

Jason Baker

The visitor center and museum are a must see. The cyclorama and artifacts are well preserved and displayed beautifuly. Located near Cemetery Hill, it gives you the opportunity to learn and then go experience the expansive battlefield and history.

Pile Of George

Excellent national park. I don't think a gift shop at a war memorial is appropriate, and I also believe that if you're going to charge admission for a museum dedicated to thousands of soldiers who died in the name of freedom, you should at least provide a discount for veterans and active military (I'm referring to visitor center). That being said, the battlefield itself is beautifully preserved and the monuments are impressive. It's a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom

Ben Harbach

I haven't been here in over 10 years. It was amazing then but now It's really amazing. New since 2008 but so nice and clean you'd think they finished it early this year. Wonderful displays.

Jon Testa

The options for tours (self guided audio, ranger, horse, walking etc), maintenance, quality of the property and knowledge of staff is wonderful. It truly is a national treasure and something the whole family in the tri state can enjoy for a day to a week or more. This is our second time and I can see going back again as there is more to learn with the museums and other tours and living history exhibits. A must see at least once.

Wil Mill Man

Awsome Real Historical place. Enjoyed just walking around ourselves! They do have bus tours that take you around the entire battleground or from what I was told you can also drive your own car! How ever you go, just enjoy a little piece of America`s history! Well worth the trip! Very family oriented!

Christopher Wolfe

Words dont really capture how moving this place is. Battlefield is so large and there is so much to learn you cannot see it in less than a day. The rebirth of a nation was here and to see and learn you will drive and walk and read and reflect.

Spencer Arias

Well laid out auto tour. RV friendly for our 30ft Class C. The 100 nights of Taps was awesome.

Jonathan Fernandez

Truly hallow ground. I got a better experience watching ken burns documentary about the civil war. Coming here after watching his documentary truly makes it an experience

David Boyce

The most beautiful monument's I have ever seen in my life. I loved viewing the whole battle ground area.

Kimberly Maxwell

The drive tour was gorgeous. Started great with clear signage and stuff to see them all of the sudden. Bam signs gone...tip may be to add tour ends here or circle one back to the visitor center. We never really got out except to stop in the center....cmon Gettysburg...do you have black people anywhere? Like I enjoy a good reenactment but not that real.

Bradley Melnyk

I love Gettysburg, the history of the battle is just amazing and fascinating with so much to learn. The free battle walks are the best and you get to learn so much. My favorite ranger is Matt Atkinson. He puts on quite the show and has lots and lots of knowledge on all aspects of the battle. This place is a great place to visit to learn about one of the most interesting battles of the war.

Chris Matson

Truly hallowed ground. An amazing place to learn and explore. Highly recommend a guided tour. We did a bus, but I hear private vehicle tours are even better. Kids loved a Junior Ranger program and earning their badges. I also appreciated the available EV charging spots with a reasonable $1/hr rate. Plan on at least a full day to see the museum and a tour.

We really enjoyed this Museum There are a few areas were you can see artifacts(mostly weapons) for free but to see anything else inside it will cost you. They have a nice gift shop with lots of variety also. Now to tour the outside.. You can drive yourself you can get a map from the museum and do a self driving tour absolutely free. Most of the monuments are in a large park like setting and you really can just drive around and look at the monuments ect Or you can still do a self guided tour but get one of their audio guides from the gift shop I honestly cannot remember the price but I thought it was expensive I believe it was around $40 Or you can do a guided tour Again I thought it was little expensive and honestly we had no issues and no problem doing the self guided tour and just driving around The park But over all the museum and grounds we really enjoyed ourselves and love the history.

An Awesome tribute to those who gave all for the preservation of our country. The battlefield parks are picturesque and well maintained. The visitor center is very complete and clean.

william ross

Could have been better. Glad it was Ford family day. Free admission. The museum was a lot of reading with little stuff to look at. I felt the was prob more to look at outside the museum. Save money. Look at stuff outside and then Google Civil War Gettysburg. I hate to give this a not so good review but it was missing something and I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe it was bc there is free things all around Gettysburg that pretty much showed same stuff.

Dave Lang

Great historical site! It is a must for any history buff! So good I even proposed to my fiancee on Little Round Top!

Jeff Saunders

If you have the chance to visit Gettysburg, take it. It is sobering, educational and inspiring. The museum is incredible; full of civil war items and information. I recommend doing the self guided driving tour with a purchased CD. It gives you the lay of the land and brings the battles and experience to life. If possible stop and get out at certain sites and definitely make the climbs in the sight seeing towers.

David Gregory

The park is very nice. The auto tour is excellent. The new facility is very nice but the museum And theater are a bit too expensive. Definitely a place everyone should visit.

Sharon Runge

The self-guided auto tour is the way to go on a hot August day. We didn't get out of the car much. If you can, go. It's worth understanding just how horrifying war is.

Krystal Stevenson

This place was amazing. I always wanted to go and finally got a chance. It was more than I expected and the self guided car tour was easy to follow. They do provide a 2 hour tour with expert as well and that is worth the 70 dollars. The inside museum is also worth the time and 9 dollars. Seriously you have to go. I was blown away.

Karen Lassiter

This was a bucket list visit that I had wanted to see for many years. The park was wonderful and the guides extremely knowledgeable and helpful. A moving experience! A must for every American to understand the sacrifice made for our freedom

mypurplescience .

A wonderful museum with guided tours by park rangers of the Battlegrounds. There is also a movie, a scavenger hunt for the kids in the museum, a car audio tour and a superb gift shop. We can't wait to go back next year!

Linda Haag

Amazing! Highly recommend. Not great access for large RVs. They need more public parking for Rvs in downtown Gettysburg. But the National Park was amazing. Pay to view the diorama and museum. Worth the price.

Donna Sewell

This is my 3rd time here. This is a fantastic museum. Great bookstore and gift shop. Today they were giving out samples of yummy fudge that is sold by a small local business. They film and cyclorama presentations at the beginning are really breath taking and beautifully produced. The museum rooms are laid out chronologically by day of Gettysburg battle. Each day has a short film that introduces the exhibits and artifacts. It is a minimum of 2.5 hours. We are doing the museum on one day and car tour of battlefield the next. This battlefield is 20 square miles. So take your time and enjoy!

Kevin Judd

Chose to do the driving tour. Plan at least 3 hours if you plan to stop and look at the various monuments. One thing that you quickly realize is just how big the area of the battle was. As you look from spot to spot and gauge the distance it is hard to fathom the shear magnitude of this battle. One note there are no backpacks allowed in the visitor center so leave those in the car save yourself at trip back.

LoraTodenhoft Owen

This Battlefield is huge. 6 miles The Battle lasted 3 days. The museum was very impressive. 50K died.

Kate Gillispie

Be aware that the visitor center itself is free, but the museum and other exhibits are not, and they do not recognize the National Park Service passes like the Golden Age pass for free admission and half price activities. It was all very interesting and well done, however, especially the film and cyclorama; worth the cost, I suppose. We did not do any of the guided tours, although the Eisenhower one looked promising (being from Kansas, Ike is part of our history, too). Instead we made a point of doing the Ranger talk in the National Cemetery, which is free and was great. Lots of information, well presented, and a different perspective on the war that really brought home its long-term effects. Observed the Ranger artillery demo -- also free -- from a distance and everyone seemed to be enjoying it as well. Gettysburg is a significant part of our nation's history and this is certainly worth seeing, but be prepared to pay quite a lot for some of the activities compared to other National Park areas.

Jeff Hill

There is SO MUCH to do here! There are plenty to do on your own from walking trails on the battlefield and walking through the museum. I highly recommend the Cyclorama and Film at the museum. There are bus tours with a knowledgeable tour guide that will take you all over Gettysburg to see the spots of the battle. Reasonably priced but be prepared to tip your guide. It is only the way they make money. They have live reenactments from music of the time, to battlefield reenactments, to field hospital reenactments. Plan for all day if not a couple. There are plenty of things to do in Gettysburg as well.

Sharon Meinke

If you like learning about the Civil War the battlefield will give you a good prospective of the incredible battle and hat took place

Howard Tabor

You need to honor our nations history and struggles by visiting this landmark. The 360° painting is very impressive.

Robert Mahony

My 12 year old grandson and I spent the better part of two days here. Wonderful visitor center where left for a Park Ranger walk, saw a short film, experienced the Cyclorama and the fantastic museum. We also drove the auto tour with audio of the battlefields.

james klos

Haven't been there since I was 11 and I am now 55. What a great place, kinda really gets ya thinking. My son is 11 and it kinda really got to him.

Paul Smith

Awesome experience, a fantastic day out with friends, but be prepared it took us over 5 hrs travel, but worth every minute. A remarkable Historical centre. I recommend this to all. Paul&Thomas the Welsh Warriors.

Ian Wuscher

Beautiful ground and museum and visitor center. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. The museum is very informative and relatively priced. The park and museum and visitor's center is all very clean and well taken care of. I recommend visiting on a nice day to tour the grounds and see everything.

Rana Fiske

We absolutely loved our experience here! So much history and incredible information about the events that had taken place. There are many different kinds of tours a person or group can take. The one we had taken was a self guided tour where we followed a map ourselves; and then at every destination it would explain the events that had taken place. Will come again for sure.

Traeden Overly

This was such a fun experience, a must see if you are traveling to D.C. very accurate in depicting the south. They may have lost the war but they are still Americans and deserve to be remembered as the brave men and women fighting for their beliefs. We had a fantastic tour guide that knew so much information and facts. Many cool monuments and pretty good food.

Charles Leaming

It was great and so inspiring to walk the area where history was made. The cyclorama was at the museum was amazing!

Quentin Hoover

I love the park and the area. I have been there numerous times over multiple seasons and it is very easy to enjoy the history because of the care that goes into maintaining the area as a whole.

priyanka kulkarni

I visited the place on weekend and loved it. They have not only preserved the history quiet well but help desk service, guidance and free tours are great add-ons. The museum is quite big and needs at least 2 hours . Even if you skip the documentary movie , the same is narrated in the exhibits. The display of muskets, collar buttons and rifles was very well done as well. Do not miss on eating at cafeteria. They have great options for cold sandwiches, fries, soup including beer along with option of outdoor seating. We spent nearly 4 hours here.

Charity Woolverton

I'm not a big history person, but I rather enjoyed the way the mini movies were set up throughout the exhibits.

Trevor James

Great new addition with the visitor center. Very well organized even if there was a touch of a rushed feeling to it all. If you have a large family I highly recommend the membership program as it much less expensive to take part of the experience. Diorama is an amazing work of art.

Charles Wilson

Great information on the Battle of Gettysburg. We just visited the Museum only paid $9 for entry. Has many exhibits on the battle decent selection of the weapons used and of the people who participated. Well worth the money and you can also have a guide show you around the battlefield.

Christie Bolden

This was an amazing trip. Definitely visit the Visitors Center to see the stuff they have collected in the Museum! Also definitely take the car tour with a Ranger from the Visitors Center....amazing!!! Definitely going again! !!

Pushpendra Garg

The rangers tour was excellent. We joined two of them and both were just too good. The whole place is so well marked and things documented.

Andrew Scrugham

Went here for the first time and really enjoyed it. The place is really well maintained and beautiful. The tour guide was great and my whole family loved it.

Dave Goodwin

Every American should visit this humbling and inspiring site. Do not miss the live diorama exhibit.

Ted Bradshaw

Beautiful place to visit with lots of history. Go early! We arrived at 4:30 and they were already closing. They want everyone out by 4:45 so they can lock the doors at 5:00.

Katharine T.

What an experience! This museum is huge, so be prepared to learn a lot. After you’re done walking through, there are multiple paths to see the areas where the Gettysburg Battle occurred. Learning about your country is very important, and Gettysburg is a very well put-together destination.
