The place isnt even built yet, not sure why people are complaining and moaning hahaha

Michael Marcotte

Still early days -- no space vehicles yet -- but worth the tour to see what $238 million tax dollars bought... the mega hangar, the operations center, the crash rescue station, ride the simulator, and (on our tour) speed down the 2.27 mile runway they call the spaceway. The scenic van ride from TorC includes well produced videos about the history of the region and the exciting prospects for commercial space transportation.

Great time! Very cool place to see if you are into unusual attractions. The Space port is out in the middle of nowhere, literally. You meet in the little town of Truth or Consequences NM and then you are shuttled out. It's about a 30 to 40 minute drive. The Spaceport is meant to be a commercial venture in the future, that being said it was still worth the visit for me. You get to see the conference area, educational area where you can try the 2G machine, talk to the fire crew, watch videos, play computer games, take lots of pictures, see the hanger where the spaceships and transport vehicle will be housed. Our tour guide was very informative and accommodating. The fire men were also helpful and answered any questions. We were able to get into the ARFF, so cool! Our tour lasted 4 hours.

Attention tourists: This is most definitely worth the stop! By 2020 I have no doubt it will have grown immensely!! Tips: *Book your tour weeks in advance to ensure you get a slot! As an airport, security will NOT let you on the property for any reason other then being on the guided tour. *Plan the better part of a day for the tour at the actual Spaceport. The visitor center is essentially just a meeting place to go on the tour. You will most likely be unimpressed by the visitor center, and everything worth while is at the Spaceport. *We stayed in Truth it Consequences about an hour away. Many hotels have indoor natural hot spring mineral pools. Very cool! We highly recommend the Sierra Grande and stop at T&C brewing for some great beer. *We have AT&T and no service most places. Print a map if you plan on driving out to the spaceport. If you missed the tour or in town on a day there is no tour, it’s worth driving out just to see the building. But again, you can’t get on the property and there isn’t much to see from outside the gate. *Curtis and his staff are very friendly and happy to help. Great tour!

I like this place. Some say it's a waste of money. It may well be. It is still awe inspiring. It looks like a space ship in the desert. I hope that Virgin Galactic follows through soon and their space flights are successful, because then and only then might it turn any sort of profit.

Don't bother going if you expect to actually see anything, no direct access. Now if you like off-road driving - grab your pickup and just get to the gates. The journey is better than the destination.

I had a few hours free and decided to see this place. Google maps took me the back way from the south, and there were a few historical points along the way. The spaceport itself is awesome, though i went on a sunday and tours are only on saturdays by appointment. I could still see the buildings from the gate. There is an art piece at the round about just outside which is pretty cool. If you go out expecting some awesome experience, don't go. If you are intrigued by the history and the future ideas about this location, this is a nice afternoon visit.

My family and I had fun here, but Wow, there are several things that could have been done so much better! For one, there were too many exhibits/venders that had Nothing to do with Science or Space. Ballroom dancers? Seriously? Also, the music was blasting SO loudly that precious few of the announcements could be heard, and even fewer understood. They made different announcements inside and outside the hanger too! So we missed out on half the darn celebration and all the coolest stuff. We were really very interested in the speakers and their presentations, but there was so much darn noise, but inside and outside the hanger that, even sitting 2 rows from the stage front, we couldn't understand a word coming out of their mouths. The science demonstrations and hands on interactive stuff was REALLY cool! However, again with the blasted music drowning everything out!! We had to Really strain to hear Anything being said. Even the guy with the mega phone at the rocket shoot (that we knew nothing about until it was too late to participate in), could not be clearly heard nor understood. One last complaint; while the food vendors were delicious, 8 Freaking Dollars for a Single hamburger!?! Come on! OH! And the gyroscoping antigravity ride they advertized was nowhere in sight. Major disappointment for my boy....

A space virgin, a private corporation and a British Knight would have you believe that tourists will soon be visiting space! NOT SO FAST! The details of any lie will destroy the illusion. The illusion at hand is space which is an idea implanted in the world mind through TV, books, media and movies. The illusion at hand is in a place called Truth or Consequences NM where a British Knight built a space port façade in a military controlled desert. Use your own human abilities to detect the (absent) ring of truth in this

A great idea at one time, but turned into more tax-payer funded welfare for the wealthy and wired-in. I played a small part in touting it as a huge boon for local economy through tourism, but there's really not much to see here.

Constance Nipper

Very dissapointed. After parking and walking a long ways a huge building comes into view. I was impressed to see that the roof was covered with material that matched the sandy area surrounding the area, making it invisible from above. Unfortunately, as I approached the entrance of the building all I saw was a huge empty space filled with vendors, and on the sides of the building were more vendors. That was all. On the way out I did see a replica of the space shuttle sitting in the weeds behind an old barbed wire fence.

Would like to see them have some 1 mile top speed competitions for cars. 200 foot wide two and a half mile long Runway would be perfect.

I've only been here during the filming of a movie and the place is really nice. I can't really say much because I wasn't allowed to roam around but of all the parts I saw, it looked fantastic. Looks like if it was in use, it could be a great spaceport.

Very cool from what I saw. I just showed up on a week day and was followed around by security before I even got the the gate. So I went up and asked if I could take a tour. They were very nice and polite and told me know I had to come on a saturday for a scheduled tour. tou can find the guys number on their website. It is a nice drive or in my case a motorcyle ride and the north road from upham is finished.

Long drive for visiting history in the making. If you can drive during one of their open houses -- I think that is the way to do. Lot's to see on the way if you go via Truth Or Consequences. Longer by miles but shorter by time usually and lots more to see along the way.

Elena Flores

Space enthusiasts might find it worth the drive but otherwise not much out there

I was there on other business, filming for a production, but I must say that the staff was, nonetheless supremely helpful and courteous. Even the guards at the gate were super cool! Would love to go there for its actual capacity.

The festival had lots of activities for the kids. We attended the free movie last night at the Rio Grande theater. It was great.

Richard Friday

Amazing place was so fun going for the open house!

Peter Brisbine

Neat to say you've been there. Exhibits are lacking. It felt very amateurish. Not worth the $45 ticket. Put on by 3rd party tour company. No official Spaceport personnel to talk to. Not much activity to see at the Spaceport itself. No list of accomplishments. We had done lots of research on the drive home about their accomplishments.

Biggest boondoggle in state history. Totally mismanaged. Virgin Galactic spaceships are unsafe. Waste of tax payer money. Needs to be sold to the private sector. Failed management and policies by Governor Martinez. Needs to be repurposed as a Mars research center. It has totally ripped off the New Mexico taxpayers.

Wonderful facility, great tour, lovely views. Space tourism may seem far-fetched now, but it is the future!

(Translated by Google) Spaceport America (also called New Mexico Spaceport and formerly Southwest Regional Spaceport) is the first privately funded spaceport. Built from 2005 to 2011, the facility would finally open on 17 October 2011, the flight operations should begin by the end of 2013, but was postponed indefinitely. The operator of the facility is Virgin Galactic (founded in September 2004 by British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and US engineer Burt Rutan). This space company aims to offer sub-orbit space flights for space tourists. Furthermore, orbital space flights and scientific missions are to be carried out. The location was selected because the airspace over the region blocked for US Army testing grounds provides optimal launch conditions. In addition, the state of New Mexico was willing to subsidize the project with $ 200 million. The first unmanned missile launch on September 25, 2006 ended in a crash. The first successful rocket launch took place on April 28, 2007. The date for the first flight was first the year-end 2012, then 2013. Significant problems with the spacecraft engines resulted in an indefinite shift in October 2013. On October 31, 2014, the SpaceShipTwo prototype VSS Enterprise crashed during a test flight. The pilot Peter Siebold, was able to save himself seriously injured by parachute, co-driver Mike Alsbury was killed. The reason for the crash was the air brake system of the SpaceShipTwo, which was used too early. As a result, the plane broke apart in the air. To transport the space tourists into space, the company TSC was commissioned to build five aircraft and two carriers. Trägerflugzeug: White Knight Two (2 Stück) Suborbitales Flugzeug: SpaceShipTwo (5 Stück, 1 abgestürzt)
