I took my 9 year old daughter on the Audubon Puffin Cruise. It was a great experience! The captain and crew were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They pointed pointed out, identified and discussed all of the wildlife that we saw - quite a number of birds (puffins, gannets, guillemots, terns, gulls, phalaropes), as well as a couple pods of harbor porpoises, a harbor seal, and an ocean sunfish (huge!). The captain made a point of steering/angling the boat so that everyone got a good view. The Audubon guide actually did a rotation as a researcher on the island that hosts the puffin colony! Well worth the money. Bring binoculars, for an even better view. A great experience for us both!

Beautiful Maine Scenery, Tourist Haven Go June or September or deal with the crowds. Lots of shopping, food, views not much peace, quiet or solitude. What are you looking for?

We had an incredible day on the Audubon nature trip out to see the Puffins. The two fellows from the Audubon group narrating were great. Having married into a family business running tour boats out of Portland I know how our maine weather plays into these trips. I did my homework and picked a good day to go, we couldn’t have had a better trip. Only complaint would be that the young man in the ticket booth yesterday and today is not very friendly and certainly not representative of the boats friendly crew.

Always a special time. Every tour a different treat! Think we're onto Cap'n Fish generation 3? Thanks for sharing your expertise in boating and the Boothbay Area.

Please book anywhere else! We booked for the wrong date. 10 seconds after we clicked submit and realized our mistake we gave them a call. They said they have a strict 48 hour cancellation policy. Goodbye $128 in less than 2 minutes.

Peaceful day on a sailboat with a great crew

Finally got to see whales! I saw Minke and finback whales, as well as a sunfish, porpoises and a giant sea logger turtle on this 3.5+ hour tour. So much fun! Note of caution: it can get chilly on the water, so bring a sweatshirt.

A beautiful place to visit

My sister and I were very pleased with this Puffin tour. It was hosted by a charming young woman who had spent time on the island helping with the puffin project. A bald eagle on the island kept us from getting land shots but loved this trip and highly recommend!

Joyce Kelley

Very informative. Had a great time

David McCurdy

Lots of fun for families, couples, and kids. Something for anyone that like to be on the water.

Seen so many things when someone on the boat seen a whale way way off in the distant the boat headed out that way by the time we got there it was gone .no pictures no real siting I'm my opinion but they say it wss there so we dont go again ..what a complete and total let down..that's alot of money to spend for what I call a major let down. No redos cause well that's what they call seeing a whale ..I drove 10 hours for this spent a ton of money to get here .cant cross it off the bucket list cause I dont call this a successful day

Dawn Bouchard Libby

The Kenebec cruise was the one I took, the guide was the best,.so informative. About 3.5 hours, loved it.

Bruce Hanley

I first want to start out by saying I would give zero stars but it won't let me post with out at least selecting one. I've never written a bad review in my entire life, nor am I a person who complains about much. I would love to give a review on how many whales I saw and how beautiful Maine was but unfortunately that's not the case. We were there to celebrate my husbands second Fathers Day, and I would imagine most of their clients would be tourists. Tourists would also not be aware of the conditions of the ocean, especially seeing how the dock area was pretty calm. As we progressed out into the ocean one by one all of us got sick and not only did we get sick but half of the people on the boat. I think for customers sake it's only fair to at least warn them of the conditions before they pay for and experience that they won't enjoy. Especially if that person has a 15 month old baby with them. So my experience was holding my baby who was vomiting all over me while I sat next to the garbage so I can throw up in the garbage. And I couldn't move to clean my baby or myself because the boat was rocking too much and I was scared I would fall and we would get hurt. And my other family members were not near by because they were outside throwing up of the side of the boat and getting thrown up on by others. I felt like it was a complete waste of money. Maybe it wouldn't have been if the conditions were better. I feel as a costumer I was taken advantage of and it breaks my heart that the world is getting to the point that businesses don't do the "right thing" but they do what makes them money. And in an area that's touristy why would they care they won't see us again. Maybe this review won't prevent you from supporting this greedy company, but if I could at least prevent someone from having the awful experience I had by checking the conditions first then this review has done its job. They will not have their customers best interest or safety at heart so make sure you ask someone or if it's a windy day wait for a day less windy. The dock area can be deceiving.

We just spent a few days at Cap't Fish at Boothbay and the service was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and helped us find our way around the area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, within walking distance of many fabulous restaurants, parks, and shopping. The view of the bay is perfect. There is also a restaurant right on there property with great food!! The whale watching cruise from Cap't Fish was awesome!! And you receive a discount if you stay there! Also loved there store items for souvenirs!! We would highly recommend this place and stay there again if ever in Boothbay.

We decided to go on the seal and lobster tour. The staff did a great job narrating the tour and answering questions. We saw an amazing amount of seals and a few harbor porpoises. Highly recommended.

Simply awesome!!!!

Pros: On boat staff were great and informative. We saw lots of puffins which they said was unusual for this late in the season. We went on another tour two days ago and there weren't as many. The captain slowed the boat down so we could see a Mola Mola / sunfish. Our Audobon representative was great. There are several seating options on the boat. Cons: Our tour departed 20 minutes late, but we still got back at the same time. The recommended parking place double parks so it takes a while to get out. It also costs $20/day to park; I would've appreciated a heads up on that.

We went on exciting whale watching tour and saw a juvenile whale breach twice! A once in a lifetime experience. The crew and captain were very knowledgeable and made our trip memorable.

Chuck Falzone

Went on a puffin tour. Saw lots of puffins! Plus other seabirds, porpoises, a couple seals and a sunfish. The tour guide is from the audobon society, and was knowledgeable and engaging.

Jonathan McCollough

Extremely poor and unhelpful customer service. They essentially scammed us into booking without confirming their location for us and without our final consent. Would highly recommend going somewhere else.

Kayla Poirier

Appreciated the tour and the information.

Michael M. Simpson

Nice whale watching trips! The crew are knowledgeable and friendly!

Few things about this trip 1. It is the open ocean, the boat rocks so take something for motion sickness a half hour before. Also have one for an hour later, it's 3 hours you'll need it. 2. Go to the bathroom. They have them on the boat, but you're rocking. I used it in the middle of a rocking point. It was not fun. 3. You will see whales, but they are quick. Keep your eyes open for one. 4. Try and take pictures. Good luck but do try. 5. It could get cold. Keep a dry jacket with you. 6. You will get sprayed, be prepared. 7. Enjoy yourself! The trip was amazing and very informative.

Krish my

the cruise was excellent! we did watch a lot of puffins and whales during the tour! the tour guide was good! a small advise: please carry your jacket since it is cold out there!

AWESOME....we took the captains special on aug 3rd at 1pm and it was awesome. We didnt know we were talking to the captain when we were waiting to board what a great guy, enjoyed our chat. He narrated the trip and we learned so much about the area. We would recommended this boat tour as a must do. Thanks to the captain and crew for such a wonderful tour!!

Very enjoyable tour of Boothbay Harbor and lighthouses, islands, and coves east of Boothbay. Large boat with outdoor seats in sun and shade, plus many indoor seats. Descriptive narration of landmarks and wildlife (birds, porpoises, seals, tourist on land). Wish the snack bar wasn’t trapped in the 1970s (chips and cocktails only). Overall we were surprised we loved it. Will try a different tour next time (they run 3-4 tours at 5-6 times per day)

Dulcey Darville

Great trip for a hour harbor cruise or a longer whale watch. Very respectful towards my clients with disabilities that that have been coming to them for the last 4 years for the harbor cruises. Great captain who explains the aspects of what you are seeing along the way and who graciously took the time to show my guys the wheel house and to pose for pictures with them also. Highly recommend this company!

Joshua Olson

I went on the Kennebec River - Bath Cruise. I saw a ship being built in Bath Ironworks, an array of wildlife and several lighthouses.

I would just like to say how disappointed we were with the whale watching cruise on Sunday. 4 of us and a dog went on the 1pm whale watching cruise on Sun. Sept 2nd. We were deciding between the whale watching cruise or the ferry to Monhegan for the day. We chose the whale watching cruise because of the reviews. Unfortunately, we spent about 3.5 hrs on a boat and saw nothing. We are in town visiting from Florida and only had a few days in Maine. Since we did not see any whales, we were given standby tickets to another Cap'n Fish cruise. We left town on Monday morning so were unable to take another cruise. When I approached the ticket window to ask about getting a refund since the standby tickets were no good to ask, the attendant just shrugged his shoulders and went back to doing what he was doing. Had I known that Cap'n Fish would show such disregard for tourists in the area, I would have spent the $256 elsewhere in Boothbay Harbor and would have taken the ferry to Monhegan so that a whole day of vacation wasn't wasted on a boat watching gulls fly around. Update: I reached out to Cap'n Fish expressing how I paid for a ride around open water and was unable to use a standby ticket on a different cruise since we were visiting from Florida. The response was "We don't control nature." Spend money on some other tour of the surrounding locations!

Wife and I took our 9 month old daughter on the puffin cruise (2.5hrs) and it was absolutely amazing. We saw the puffin colony, a dozen seals throughout the bay, a monster sunfish, and a whale. Also, you tour past a few lighthouses and other scenic areas. Very knowledgeable staff and guide. We went Friday 10am mid July and there was plenty of room. We brought our stroller aboard with ease. Inside is air conditioned with a bar and snacks. We put our baby in her carrier and wore her while riding in the front so we could see everything. It was by far the highlight of our trip. Thanks so much Capn fish!! Bring binoculars and a high zoom camera. Puffins are less than a foot long!

I agree with the previous post about the scam and horrible customer service. I booked a same-day Puffin cruise. When I couldn't find their location - I called THREE times to try to get directions and information. On the last call, they told me I was in Portland which was not where boarding was. They say their location is on their brochure and website - I did not have access to internet and didn't see the website - however the brochure did say Boothbay Harbor - which we assumed was the Harbor in Portland where we would be boarding (since the brochures were in our Portland hotel). When I called about reservations and mentioned we were vacationing from Texas and staying in Portland, never ONCE did they mention that the boat did not leave from Portland. After the 3rd call and discovering their true location, we did not have the time to drive to Boothbay Harbor in time to catch the cruise. When I asked for a refund since it had only been about 30-45 minutes since I made the reservation, they would not do so. They told me they had reserved spaces for us already (4 people). I asked them since we weren't coming, would they re-sell the spots - and he said YES they would. So I was doubly unsure of why they didn't refund my money. I'm sure the cruise would have been lovely, it's just a shame about the people that own/run this company. Tourists are their bread and butter and they should have a better understanding of customer service and offering helpful information. But I guess as long as they get all the money they can, that is their main concern. Another disappointment in faith of our humanity. EDIT: After the response from the company concerning this - again it just reiterates the absolute horrific customer service of this company! SMH
