Evenings by the fire eating smores and hot dogs. Mornings listening to natures unbelievable sounds like hummingbirds that sound like helicopters. What more needs to be said?

Recently stayed this past weekend. There was a cancellation and one night opened up. We stayed at The Haven. It was fantastic! Very beautiful and well maintained. It's apparent that the owners care about the guests. The cabin was well stocked and with quality touches. Little touches like a sound bar with the TV and quality sheets really made us comfortable. Very reasonably priced and Hugh, the owner, was great! He welcomed us soon after we arrived and gave us tips on things in the area to check out. The only thing that can make the cabins better would be the ability to have pets inside. But I understand why not- due to other guests allergies and some people truly just don't watch their animals. There are conditions if you bring a pet and where they can be and you can talk to Hugh more on the details. Fortunately, I had someone that could watch my dog and I didn't have to bring him along. Somewhere cool for animals in the hot summer months would be great. The cabins are amazing and so is the location. Would recommend to anyone and I certainly will be back again. Great stay and fantastic hosts. Thanks Hugh!

It was the perfect place to just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of "life" for a few days. It was nice of the owner, Hugh, to come down to the cabin and talk for a bit about the nature area and attractions we could explore. We will definitely visit again!

In March of 2017, my husband and I stayed in the Nest for the 3rd time in the last 6 years. It is always a place of relaxation for us. The small kitchen, with basic items is great when you don't want to have to leave for each meal. The cabins have recently been updated with new furniture and a new tv etc. which was great! We also appreciate the cozy, clean atmosphere of the cabins. We look forward to more stays in our future.

My husband and I stayed in The Nest (one of the two cabins) in March and again for our anniversary in August. We love the location of the cabin, as it's so close to the eagle refuge. There is nothing like taking walks and hearing the flapping of a juvenile eagle's wings flying just over your head. The scenery and all the birds/animals are amazing as is the cabin. We call it our home away from home. There's a full kitchen, so it makes our mornings to sleep in a bit, drink coffee, sit on the deck to watch the birds at the feeder and eat breakfast so relaxing. Also, the tub for two is a plus! The owner, Hugh, is so friendly and is a great resource of information of all to do. We have reservations already for two different weekends next week. We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I found this treasure quite by accident; I said find me a place with a fireplace indoors. She found Horn's Ferry Hideaway online. We arrived late on a cold winter Friday night and woke up Saturday to the sight of several bald eagles flying about outside our cabin. We were in awe. Since then, we have committed to visiting HFH about "every quarter" (3-4 months). Our motivation is to gain "down time" away from home (let's be honest, you can never fully relax at home as there is always something to do), take time away from our lovely children (everyone needs a break apart), and spend time together as "just us" (a wise owl once told me that couples need to do things together apart from the kids during marriage so you remain connected for when the kids leave someday). We are both big nature lovers and the time at HFH is therefore both active and reflective. You might find me reading, drawing, puzzling, sleeping, relaxing in a hot bath, running, fishing, hiking, sitting by an outside fire, driving the countryside, or even heading to a store or gym in Pella or Knoxville. Above all, the amenities (fully furnished and clean cabin, enclosed deck, TV with satellite channels, DVD/entertainment center for movies, kitchen/microwave/stove/fridge, and extra large tub with water jets) and customer service (super friendly camp owners are at your service as needed). We cannot say enough about this place. It's a treasure. If you haven't stayed, make time. You won't regret it. All can be summed up by the fact that my wife and I always say we wish it wasn't already time to go at the end of our stay and look eagerly to our next scheduled visit. Dave Grooters, Mason City

Great, relaxing environment! Perfect for getting away to just relax in the cabin, where you can be free from life's distractions. Or if you are up for exercising and enjoying the great outdoors, you are very close to bike trails near Lake Red Rock. The owners are so friendly. We have enjoyed this cabin for little get aways the last several years. Highly recommend it!

We have had the pleasure of staying at the Hideaway not once but four times. My spouse and I are well traveled but still find Horn's Ferry Hideaway one of our favorites..

We went to Horn's Ferry Hideaway for our honeymoon, and we cannot say enough good things about this beautiful place! The owners were absolutely wonderful and so kind to us throughout our entire stay. We had some vehicular issues on our way, and the owners were more than happy to help us with whatever they could. The cabins themselves were very clean and stocked with everything you could need! The views from the cabin are very peaceful and full of trees, and it is very close to the Des Moines River so we were actually able to walk our kayaks down to the river and go kayaking! Nearby towns were also a joy to visit. Absolutely wonderful and would highly recommend!

We stayed for the second time in Feb. 2015. The cabin was clean, cozy, and we really enjoyed our stay. We are already working on our next trip. Very quiet, near wildlife, and very restful. Thanks.

Loved it! Can't wait to go back. Peaceful, cozy, and charming little getaway. Next time we'll stay longer.

We stayed for the weekend in the Haven cabin and our friends stayed in the Nest. Both cabins are very beautiful! Fully stocked with what you need in the kitchen to cook and towels in the bathroom with the whirlpool tub, which was awesome!! It was such a peaceful place to stay. We enjoyed sitting around the fire. We got to see 3 deer right outside several times, a woodchuck, and lots of birds! Our friend saw a red fox behind our cabin, but we missed it. Maybe next visit! It stormed Saturday night, but was still wonderful sitting in the screened in porch watching and listening to it. We drove and checked out the Cordova water tower, very cool. Saw a bobcat on our way there. We walked the trails also. We all thoroughly had an excellent, perfect time and can't wait to return to this little peace on earth!

Very comfy cabin buried in the woods. They have everything you need for your stay from towels to dishes and coffee. The location is good being between Pella and Knoxville. The cabins are very clean and the staff will do the cleaning so you can take advantage of the cabin till the last minute. Its a great get away. Make sure you take the hike to the other side of the river and go to the old bridge.

I can't wait to go back! Very relaxing and beautiful

Our family had both cabins rented over the Memorial Day weekend, we spent 4 nights at the cabins and hated to see it go by so fast. We had a fantastic time, it was relaxing even with 2 toddlers running around. I would recommend these cabins to anyone that wants a getaway. The cabins were supplied with everything you need, the beds were very comfortable, the screened in patio was great to keep the bugs away and yet you still get to enjoy the weather and see the wildlife. Hugh (owner) was very friendly and welcomed us to their cabins and made sure we didn't need anything and answered any questions we had. Will definitely be back!!!

My wife and I completely enjoyed our stay at Horn's Ferry Hideaway in the Haven Cabin. It is nice and secluded, tucked back into the timber. Loved watching the bald eagles and other wildlife. We will definitely be back for another stay. The owners are super nice and easy to work with, wonderful response time on emails when getting things booked. Thanks so much for letting us spend our 10th anniversary with you.

We were given a two (2) night stay at Horn's Ferry Hideaway as a wedding gift and what a gift is was! We stayed in the Nest cabin and were very pleased with the amenities and beautiful décor. While doing our bible study each morning we were visited by deer and squirrels. The baby squirrels were playing on the tree. We were blessed to have spent time in this beautiful retreat! God's beauty was all around us! We are planning on making this our anniversary destination every year! Thank you Hugh & Tracy for such a love place to relax and enjoy nature. God bless you both! Need a getaway with a loved one??? Need a retreat away from the busyness of life?? This is your place! Third time to Horn's Ferry and we love it. I'm hoping to change it to any every 6 month vacation instead of an annual vacation with my husband. We have only gone in the winter months, because we are told that is the most quiet and peaceful time. Very clean and well furnished! You feel right at home immediately. Very close to Pella where you can enjoy wonderful food and shops. We definitely recommend it!!!!

What's not to like? We go after Ivan's campground closes for the season and basically have the place to ourselves. Very peaceful, and the cabins are very nicely appointed.

My husband and I booked a one night stay at "The Haven" cabin in early August. The cabin was beautiful, comfortable, and stocked with all of the basics. The Howe's really thought of everything! The kitchen was stocked with all of the basic cooking and eating utensils as well as baking / cooking staples (salt, flour, sugar, etc), a large bathroom with clean whirlpool tub and separate shower, huge comfy bed, couch, local restaurant and attraction guides, and board games. We were pleasantly surprised by everything! A short drive to the marina cove for reasonably priced kayak rentals was wonderful! As well as quick and easy access to beautiful blacktop and nature trails through the woods along the Des Moines River and Lake Red Rock. Only about a 10 minute drive to Pella for some local shopping and eating was nice too! Hugh Howe stopped down for a visit around 7:00, after texting my hubby to make sure it was okay, and introduced himself as well as to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything; definitely helped us feel welcome. All in all, a wonderful place!

James Merrill

Excellent service. Quick to take action when difficulties arise. Cabin was very clean. Owner was very helpful with directions to local amenities. Peaceful atmosphere with lots of wildlife to see. Great fishing at nearby Lake Red Rock. Very out of the way but within reach of local shops.

Tim DeBoer

Beautiful cabin when you need to get away from it all. There is easily accessible hiking nearby and a fire pit out front. The owners are very friendly and took time out of their evening to show us around the cabin the evening we arrived. Very cozy cabin with a full kitchen, gas fireplace, king sized bed, jacuzzi tub, and a screened in porch to watch the wildlife from.

Michael Thompson

Let's start with the beautiful cabin (The Haven). It's awesome!!! I cannot complain about anything at all. Truly one of the best cabins I have stayed in. I will be back for sure!!!!!!

We had a blessed time at the Haven Cabin. What a blessing to have the comforts of home. So many wonders of Gods creation to take in. Family devotions at night with the sounds of nature around us. Gods splendor and beauty were all around us from sun up til sun down. We were blessed to see 3 bald eagles , 1 handsome buck and a silly squirrel playing with the walnuts. Our children had a blast fishing at some nearby places and they enjoyed the sights from the Horns Ferry Bridge. We will be renting again this next year.

Becky Kelsey

Great place for a relaxing get away

Another EXCELLENT stay at Horn's Ferry Hideaway! Last summer, July 2014, we rented one cabin, for one week, for the first time. We enjoyed it so much, we rented both cabins this time, June 12 through June 19, 2015. The owners are wonderful people and excellent hosts. Both summers they were excellent about our requests. The cabins are very clean and comfortable. The grounds are maintained beautifully and large enough to have a badminton court. We absolutely love the whole area. We power walk, hike, fish and swim. The wildlife is abundant and beautiful. We have already booked both cabins for another week next summer! If the owners ever decide to sell, we would like to be first in line to make an offer!
