This was a very nice lunch cruise. The weather was a bit rainy, but cleared up later. The food wasn't amazing, but decent for a cruise. Staff was nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend if you want something to do in Dubuque for a bit. Really pretty scenery, too! I'd recommend coming when the leaves turn colors.

Peaceful cruise up and down the river. After a long day in the heat in and around Dubuque, my wife and I did the dinner cruise. We boarder at the recommended 15 minutes early and sat on the upstairs indoor deck. Once we got moving and the A/C kicked in it was very comfortable. On our way north we were presented dry rub chicken and fried catfish, cheesy mashed potatoes, salad, and dinner rolls buffet style. Crew members were very attentive with beverages, and if you cannot wait, the bar was open downstairs. After circling around and heading south at the Lock and Dam we were served some kind of cookie/brownie desert that was just as good as it sounds. Then it was a slow peaceful ride for the next 45 minutes or so as the sun began to set. For us, it was very relaxing and was nice to talk to others. Beautiful weather, and calm (for the MS River) waters.

I am president of Midwest Riverboat Buffs and a group of 27 of us took a dinner trip on the American Lady a few nights ago. I can't say enough good about Diane in the office, the captain of the boat as well as the wait staff on the boat! We were delayed getting back to the dock due to a closed railroad bridge and we all were so happy we got a longer boat ride! The dinner buffet was great as well, and many in our group had stated to me how good the beef & cheesy potatoes were as well! Next time our group is in the Dubuque area we will definitely be back! If you want the history of Mississippi River travel, facts about the bridges, levees, and how Dubuque was founded and grew, this cruise isn't for you. If you want a heck of a good time happy hour, reserve your tickets early.

Torn between 2 and 3 star. Boat has seen better days. They ran out of main course on a lunch cruise and I was left with ONE chicken wing to eat. The captain wasn't very personable and didn't seem to like kids. (Mine are fairly well behaved and he didnt want to be bothered by their questions). He had interesting things to say along the route but had strange/awkward pauses in the middle of his sentences. (All from memory, not written down) something to the effect of: "The nuns liked to walk.....30sec later......around the grounds." Drinks are not included with lunch purchase. They told this to me after I had asked for a lemonade. Which then I had to pay $2.75 for a 12oz cup packed with ice. It was nice that there is covered areas and good windows for sight seeing while indoors. The lady serving food was nice. Don't get there an 1hr early to check in and board. We sat for 45minutes on the dock with nothing to do. Underwhelmed by the experience and mad about the food.

VERY Nice way to Spend an Evening We booked a dinner cruise and had a great time. This is a great way to enjoy a little bit of the Upper Mississippi River. The cruise went from the US 151 Wisconsin bridge to about 5 miles south of Dubuque. There were trains, bardges, boats, bridges, and wildlife to enjoy along the way. The pork dinner was nicely done with potatoes, beans, salad, and dessert.

It's a 2 hour cruise for $20... dont understand why people are complaining. What do you expect. It was nice, breezy and staff was VERY nice and helpful. Other reviews are just stupid!!

Always a great time! We went out on the American Lady this last Saturday (7/13/19) for the happy hour cruise. You just can't beat the cost - beer, plus snacks, plus ride - it's great! The beer and wings are plentiful. The service is great too. They keep a very clean establishment. Definitely make sure you arrive early if you have a large group that you want to sit together. There is a lot of seating but indoor seating is limited and other tables are dispersed throughout the boat. Only complaint is the 2-for-1 margaritas. $8 gets you two tiny cups of very weak margarita with lots of ice. Definitely not worth the price even with the deal. Would have felt better if they'd at least been in the same size cup as the beer.

Major disappointment. There was a private party which were treated as VIP and took up the entire top level of the boat. The rest of us were stuck on the bottom, interior level which was hot, crowded and overrun by flies. There was no wait staff to speak of and the line to the bar was 5-10 deep for the first 30-45 mins of the experience. The food was just subpar and covered in flies. The entire experience lacked class and elegance. We questioned why we weren’t given the same exposure to the boat as the private party and were given an explanation similar to a shoulder shrug. I will not do this again and caution others as well.

This breaks my heart to write because I used to love the American Lady Cruises. This new incarnation of the cruise is a nightmare. The new ownership has stripped this cruise of it's former glory. The free beer is now a Homebrew of the owner that is plain and simple...not good. The former staff has been wiped out and the new staff is uncaring. This cruise does not compare to the old version. Save your money and avoid this place at all cost.

5 out 5! Love the Happy Hour Cruise, relaxing, fun. The captain was very informative. The staff was so nice and our pulled pork sandwich was yummy snack. Diffidently check this place out for Mississippi boat ride. Beer and soft drinks were free, but I wanted a wine, $6 was a great price for the glass of wine. The trees looked great, they haven't 100% popped yet, LATE this year.

We had a wonderful time on our combo Happy Hour/Sunset Dinner Cruise on Saturday June 9th. It was a surprise party for my husband's 80th birthday and we had 34 family members for the celebration. Food is great & staff is even better...always accommodating and food & drinks was graciously served. Brian is a pleasure to work with as I contacted him many many times with questions and I got all the right answers and no complaints from him. The Captain on board was so nice to our grandkids letting them drive the boat. We will definitely recommend this and looking forward to another time out on the Mississippi with the American Lady!!

We took the happy hour cruise and I wasn't impressed. The bottom level was very hot with no breeze/ventilation but the upper level had very limited seating so we had to stand the whole time. We went to get drinks when we got on the boat and they charged full price because the boat "hadn't left the dock yet." I feel like the prices should be effective for the whole hour and a half cruise. The only food were mushy chicken wings. Overall cleanliness was lacking as well.

Three friends and I took the lunch cruise on July 16. They ran out of food before we made it to the buffet. Absolutely no potatoes left. There was a little meat. An employee was in line ahead of us with a plateful for herself. We asked if they'd be bringing more out and she said no. No apology. Was very disappointed, especially since we were planning on lunch. I would think that there wouldn't be an issue with not enough food when you do this on a daily basis.

Relaxing boat ride with good views, good food, and good seating options. You could stand on the deck or sit inside in the AC. Interesting to hear the history of the area, too. Definitely worth it for an afternoon activity!

The tour guide was knowledgeable, the crew were friendly they offer free water and lemonade. The ship was spacious and clean. We choose the sight seeing option for 20$, buffet is available for extra 15$ (personally I prefer to eat at real restaurant.)

Our 2017 Iowa Rural Letter Carriers' Association Convention attendees enjoyed the great good fortune of an American Lady Cruise earlier this week. Diane, her staff, and our guides knocked themselves out in showing all of us a tremendous view of the Mississippi River. Diane, the Captain and staff also provided fantastic food and entertainment, such as "driving the boat", to the young and young at heart. My step father and I planned a nice dinner for my mom on the boat for 12 people but it was screwed up and listed for 2. When we all got to the restaurant it was chaos. We are not pleased with what happened. I do not suggest going.

It was okay. Boat was nice enough and ride was about 1.5 hours. The narrative was the weakest of any boat ride we've been on and it's quite a few. Speakers were awful so whenever he did say something you couldn't hear it.

The food was good. We had 8 people and everyone liked the chicken, beef,etc. the crew wasn’t overly friendly, but they did their jobs well. The boat was clean and cared for. We had a good time and can recommend this attraction and I would go again.

It was horrible. It was a 4 hour cruise/ meal. That part was ok. Food wasn't anything to brag about. However it was the night for fireworks over the river. There was not enough room on the deck so my party of 5 had to watch it inside through the windows. The cost was $507.99 ( so $101 and change per person). I even asked the person in charge to see if he could help make room and he just blew me off. I would expect for that price to be able to view the fireworks since that was part of the package. We will never go there again. To rate this I have to give it a star, but I would not give it any stars if I could post it like that.
