My husband and I have bought 10 different properties (land) and one home in the Murphy area. Each and every one of them was bought and sold with Mr. Newell Collins as our real estate agent. I have referred friends to him and never once were they disappointed in the service Newell provided. He knows the area and has a finger on the pulse of the real estate community. He knows what adjoins a property and what might be happening in the future on most any given piece of land. There is no one I trust more with our real estate dealings than Newell Collins and Appalachian Land Company. Professional, courteous, and straight shooters all the way.

I was NOT impressed with the realtor that I delt with. As a licensed professional, she missed up big time on working the numbers and made me lose a lot of money while she still made her thousands of dollars worth of commissions. She did not take into a ccount one of the most important aspects when we put the house up for sale, the payoff. I feel that she is scummy and only looking out for herself. Does not care about her clients, as it seems the only thing she cares about is the money she is going to make. I would not go with this company again, as they clearly do not train their employees correctly, since such a big mistake was made with my deal.

BUYERS BEWARE! When puchasing land in the Murphy area I made the mistake of using this firm for my needs,expecting honesty and integrity,having los a large sum trying to invest in Costa Rica. I chose the firm because an agent there was an aquaintence from Florida whom I had known personally and professionally for several years. Having lost a great deal of money in a Costa Rico project i had learned to only deal with "professionals that I knew and could trust. My mistake! I purchased a 3.17 acre property from ALC and when I subdivided it and had it surveyed it was only 2.68 acres as a portion had been SOLD in 2000! When I complained to the selling and listing agent,Newell Collins,he dismissed the irregularity as a "surveyor's overlap" and was of no concern.When I purchased the property,Mr Collins could not produce the survey as it was misplaced but he assured me it was a GOOD survey,if somewhat dated.Because the utilities{infrastructure} was not inside my property lines the sellers,the Garrett Estate agreed to move the lines to include my utilities,which they did. It cost ME $400 for the new survey and ALC would bear none of the cost nor would they provide me with a new deed reflecting the new property lines. A complaint to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission resulted in a denial of the complaint. I am "up the creek with no paddle" ! No deed to my property....Bill Griffith ,Murphy ,NC. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!! I recently purchase a home on a piece of riverfront property in Murphy, North Carolina. The purchase was through one of this company's brokers, Newell Collins, and I have only glowing reviews. You see, several years ago, I was involved in the real estate market in my home state and have to say that my experience with Mr. Collins was far above and beyond and was exactly what I would have expected from one of my agents. He walked me through every step of the way, explaining the nuances of North Carolina's real estate laws to me and making suggestions as to what avenue I should follow. I was often out of town during the financing process, however Mr. Collins was very helpful in meeting the inspector to allow him access into the home. Even after the purchase was finalized, he was still such a help. He met the ADT installer at the house to allowing him access. He also met the furniture delivery men on two separate occasions. When I need suggestions as to who to call to complete a landscaping project, he provided the name of a very reputable company and even helped me line up a yard maintenance person. I'm sorry that the one person didn't have a good experience, but it sounds as if he thought he knew more than Mr. Collins about making a land purchase in N.C. Pity, that was his loss.

We had tried a different realtor before meeting Newell Collins at Appalachian. What a difference. The first agency tried to sell some really "sleazy" deals, but Newell was totally different. He told us upfront he would work with us until we found the house of our dreams and he did. He took us to homes we told him WE wanted to see, that he suspected would not meet our desires. He spent his time allowing us to discover what he knew about the area. A real gem. His patience paid off as we kept learning and eventually found the home that checked off every box we defined to Newell, the first day we met him. He really knows Western Carolina and North GA. If you are looking for an honest agent who will help you find what you are looking for, give him a call.
