Creative Travel came recommended to us by a dear family friend...boy does he owe us an apology. Let’s face it—with today’s technology, we really don’t need a travel agent to book flights. The internet makes it easy enough to poorly book flights on your own. But our family was traveling from different parts of the country and we thought that using a travel agent would be the easiest way to align our schedules to spend the most time together. That was our first mistake. Attention to detail proved to be lacking from the beginning when all of our flights booked from the same departing city. Not to worry...fixing that error only doubled our airfare expenses. After that, my husband and I were thrilled to find out that we were not seated together for a 10-hour flight. When I called Rebecca to clarify, she suggested that we check the website to upgrade for seats together or just ask if folks on the flight would want to exchange seats with us...remember we’ve paid her twice to book our flights at this point. Fast forward to our second day of vacation. When our family finalized our travel plans with Rebecca, she told us that the only expense we would have on the trip would be our rental car. All other accommodations were pre-paid. That turned out not to be the case. Although we had written several large checks to Rebecca somehow our hotel room had not been prepaid even though our itinerary stated otherwise. Unsurprisingly the hotel did not accept our Creative Travel confirmation as proof of payment. Speaking of our confirmation, it reared it’s ugly head once more on our last day of the trip. When I signed off on the manifest, we were scheduled to travel through Munich and Philadelphia on our way home. When I received the final travel documents, our plans had been changed to Frankfurt and Chicago. The difference in the travel time was minimal, so I didn’t worry too much about it. Here’s what the difference was—we went from a two hour layover in Munich, to a 50 minute layover in Frankfurt. Thus, my husband and I sprinted over a mile from gate A to Z62 in Europe’s largest airport with moments to spare to board our plane. I realize these things happen. I realize travel is hard. But the whole reason we sprung for a travel agent was to avoid problems like these. Please learn from our mistakes and go literally anywhere else to make your travel arrangements.
