Fun but mild. Perhaps the low water levels detracted from the experience, but there was way too much idle floating/chatter and not enough class IV rapids. The most disappointing aspect is the blatent ripoff re:pictures. They charge you $60 bucks for 2to 6 digital pictures.

The white water rafting tour was great! Our tour guide was a little rude because we were beginners and could not keep up, but the management and experience was good. What went wrong - We booked a full day experience with horseback riding in the afternoon. The company with horses never showed up and we waited for over an hour. We called several times and they kept saying 15-20 mins but never came. Very unprofessional. This is the reason for the 4 star rating!

This place was awesome. I stayed for an overnight rafting trip and felt like royalty. The guides were cool and hung out with our group of nine for a while. The food was good but the dinner of surf and turf was awesome. I would definitely visit again during high water.

So enjoyed this experience! Not too rough and very enjoyable on an overcast day. We didn’t see any sheep but we enjoyed the trip all the same. Emma was an excellent guide and brightened our day! Very good for the price. A quick trip and an excellent way to end a great vacation!

This was a little bit expensive but an amazing experience I won't soon forget. We went in June when the river was swollen from snow melt and there were some category 4 rapids along the way. It was about a 10 mile trip that took a couple of hours. It was hot waiting around but as soon as we got in the rapids the water was ice cold so I was glad for the wet suits they rent out. It is physically demanding to paddle so much and you get tossed around a lot so it's not for anyone physically weak or kids. There are a few slower parts of the river where they stop to let you rest, but much of it is intense. Our guide got us through it though!

This was an excellent rafting trip for our family! Our guide Bobbit was professional, knowledgeable and kept us going through our hole trip. She was great with all my kids, ages 7-13. I felt completely safe and we had an unbelievable experience on our trip through Bighorn Sheep Canyon. Would recommend to everyone!!

Spencer was our guide he was awesome, great additude. Learned alot about the history along the canyon Royal gorge. Rapids were awesome. Recommendations try it. Plus you don't need to know anything. They teach you on the spot. Great job! Only complaint the cost of even one photo.

Ben was our guide and it was the best thing I have done while living in Colorado. They took safety real serious which made me safe, secure, and that they actually cared. My family was visiting from out of town and they thought this was the best thing they have done in their lives... Believe me, they have done a lot. Gorge was amazing, can't rave anymore. I will be coming back next year!

Buyer Beware! If you are from out of town and looking to reserve a rafting trip...go somewhere other than American Adventures. Be a walk-in at one of the many places along the road...you will get your money's worth. Being from out of town, we reserved a raft with American via their website. As misfortune would have it, website and reservation confusion led to our party going to the wrong location, as there are two bases about 80 miles apart. The management was unreceptive and the customer service was poor at best. We were passed around from person to person. Apparently, going to the wrong place happens often. Which now, I DO NOT WONDER why the "going to the wrong location policy" is easily found on the website and the sets of directions are clustered together under the same link. American Adventures makes more money that way and will charge your credit card while they send the boat out with walk-in clients. That said, I would take my chances as a walk-in at any other rafting company, rather than make a reservation with American Adventures Expeditions ever again. They cost us a $100 more than we ended up paying elsewhere, and we never got out on the water with their group. As a walk-in, American Adventures can't just take your money. The true irony is, American Adventures fully realized the experience that we had with their organization and still asked us to share a review, so there you have it. My advice think twice and choose a small group with one location that cares deeply about the customer experience, not a group like AAE looking to expand to multiple locations and prey upon out-of-state tourists.

This is totally a experience of a lifetime with my family. Our guide Shaylene was amazing she treated us all with respect and had the greatest personality to make everyone happy and feel so comfortable. My daughter is seven had a blast she got to sit back with Shaylene. My son 11 was totally freaked out and nervous. Our guide made it comfortable and totally entertaining she totally changed his mind about white water rafting. I would highly recommend this company and Shaylene as your guide if you want to have a positive fun experience the whole time. Thank you American adventures for making it a great experience for my family and very reasonably priced.

My husband and I were just passing through and saw the rafters on the river. This was something I’d always wanted to do. We stopped at American Adventures Expeditions and were able to get on the last two seats on the half a day. This was as amazing as I could ever imagine. This was our first time white water rafting. It was late in the season, so the water was lower and there were a lot of obstacles. But we had the Luck of the Irish ☘️ with us as our guide was the Irishman Brian. Brian absolutely MADE our trip. He was funny, helpful, encouraging and a excellent story teller! Brian engaged with all of us, and made our 3 hours not only exciting with the rafting, but just a blast with his personality. Way to go American Adventures, you picked a great teammate in Brian. I hope he gets plenty of Guinness and Lick Charms!

I can't say enough good things about this company, but I will say for us it was an outstanding outdoor experience, we rafted through the Royal Gorge and camped over night. The guides are top notch and know their stuff well. Our guide, Rachel; took our safety very seriously and knew when to have fun as well. Our over night experience was equally fantastic, the night staff which are guides as well was Spencer, who is great company and an intrepid adventurer, and Alex, who went out of his way to accommodate our stay and, Attikcus (not sure on the spelling), treated us to some excellent cooking. Staff is incredibly experienced and clearly enjoyed their work, I would recommend to anyone wanting to expereince their services to contact them right away.

We had a blast!! We have 4 kids aged 7-17 and Grandpa & Grandma came too. Shaylene (or as we like to call her, ShayQueen) guided 1/2 our group and gave us fabulous attention and really worked with our youngest with such great care - taught her how to steer the raft, etc. also told us fun history about the area as we traveled along. Jellyfish / Brian was our other guide (we had two rafts) and rocked it as well. We loved it and were treated great! The vibe / atmosphere at this particular place (American Adventure Expeditions) well, I have no suggestions for improvement. They rock!!! PS the guides are required to have something like 500 miles of experience and LOTS of training. They are technical experts!

Holy Cow, Jellyfish (Johnson) was the man. He made the adventure totally worth it. He kept everything interesting as he chatted with my group about life and about the rapids at the same time. He has been probably my favorite tour guide of all time. He taught us in a comical way about the rapids and let us explore and be a part of the river. American Adventure Expeditions is the only place you should go for your rafting adventures. The guides are very friendly, reminds me of hippies, and will keep you safe as long as listen to them. The lunch that they provide on the full day adventures are amazing with more fresh veggies than you could dream about. The Big Horn Sheep Cannon all day rout is very exciting with plenty of great rapids to make everlasting memories on, and the in-between moments are great times to converse with the cooler than cool guides.

We did a half day down the Royal Gorge. It was great. Our guide Alan was very good. We had the good fortune of being the only two "civilians" on the raft. Alan did most of the work with the oars so we simply kicked back and enjoyed the ride. These guys are the only company in the area that have direct access to the river, that means only one bus ride back. Last year I did a full day and had lunch with them. The food was good and the company was great. I would strongly recommend these guys. The river is the same for everyone, these people make the difference.

Rafting is a must if you are planning a trip to Colorado! Absolutely beautiful sights down the Royal Gorge. This year we were lucky enough to have Curtis as our guide for a double-dip through the Royal Gorge. His experience kept us safe and his personality kept us entertained. Even when our boat flipped at the Wall Slammer, we had been well-trained in what to do and everyone made it out ok with a great new story to tell. My wife and I were lucky enough to be on our own boat with our guide Atticus since the others in the group wanted to go together in a separate boat. This was great because on a prior trip to Jackson Hole we had twelve to a boat which made paddling very difficult since some couldn't synchronize with the rest. It was our personalized rafting trip. He was a great guide and Big Sheep Horn was awesome. If you want a great rafting experience, do yourself a favor and ask for Atticus. If you're lucky enough, you'll be able to experience Satan's suck hole along the route. Both of us look forward to doing the Royal Gorge trip the next time we are in town.

9-2-18, our guide was Atticus, He was freaking awesome. I can't say enough how much I loved this trip. This was our first trip ever, the river was down, my wife isn't athletic at all, and we had a blast. Was able to enjoy the scenery, but still having to maneuver some of the rapids. Already planning my trip in mid June. If you are wanting the fast fast pace of the river go early to late spring. when we went the river rush was 329 cubic feet per second, I wanna go now when she is pushing 2000 cubic feet per second. Such a rush, You will need to use your core strength, expect to be a little sore the next day. AAE did a fantastic job!!!

Not sure where to start. My wife and I have been wanting to do this river trip for years. We read the reviews and decided to go with AAE and glad we did. AAE has a brief mandatory sit-down with each group then the rest is up to you and yours. I won't preach but pay attention to your guide because they know whats coming. Our guide was Curtis and we could not have asked for better. He kept us safe, moving, and entertained. He shared that after 10 years with AAE that he is moving on to a new career and we've no doubt he will be a success. If Curtis is any indication, AAE chooses it's people well. We will be back with more of our family next time.

We decided on the full day experience and I must say our guide Spencer absolutely crushed it! He gave us just the kind of day we were looking for.. Amazing views, great conversation, friendly personalities, and excellent surf. The lunch was perfect a nice burger with all the toppings they even gave us freshly made cookies for desert. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company. The guides will take great care of you and ensure your safety throughout the day :)

Great trip through the Royal gorge that I would recommend to anyone. The river had more rapids in 1 hour than I have experienced in a day on other rivers. The scenery was also great. American adventure was very accommodating as was our guide.

Super fun first-time raft trip for our family of 5 (youngest is 11). Our guide, "Two-Armed Tom" from Ireland, clearly has a lot of experience and made the trip a lot of fun! Will definitely be back next summer & can't wait to try some higher class water once our youngest turns 14 ;)

This was my third rafting trip and was also my worst. The water levels were really high and the water was moving really fast. From my little experience and comments that earlier guides have said does not necessarily increase the intensity of the ride because the white water is caused by turbulence not just water velocity. I paid for half a day (4 hrs) but the trip took only a little over an hour. To make it right the company should have taken us up to the full day drop off so that we could get our 3-4 hours of fun. The changing rooms did not have benches but did have rock floors which made it difficult to change. The guide was good and very personable.

From the beginning, American Adventure Expeditions was a great experience. I contacted a month ahead to find out pricing for a large group. We were given a discount that included wetsuits and booties! We started with 29 people. The cancellation policy was explained and followed when one member of our group had to bail out at the last minute. We were provided with the waiver link ahead of time so the majority of our group completed the easy online waiver in just a few quick minutes before arriving. We arrived 45 minutes early and were greeted with smiles! We had 4 rafts of 7 members of our party and a guide. The trip was a great adventure. One raft flipped (of our 4 in our party) and they were handled with total care! Everyone said they had a great time. Reid was the guide in my boat and was a blast. He was a great leader and had great conversation with us. The river itself was beautiful, cool and the views of the Royal Gorge, Bridge, Train etc were wonderful. Overall, outstanding experience. Thank you to Reid (our guide), Sunshine (for scheduling) and the long-haired man in charge who's name I didn't catch but who provided us a gift of candles in a twinkie-style dessert to celebrate our first day of marriage!
