If you are in the Colorado Springs area, the Air Force Academy is a great place to visit. Rich in history, the museum provides a look into how the AF Academy came to be as well as life as a cadet. Video is informative, and it is a short walk to the multi-denominational cathedral

Stephanie Zimmerman

I'm not a military buff, my husband wanted to go. We got to go up to the chapel and see the cadets form up for march before lunch.

aaron bacon

This stop wasn't planned, so when we pulled up to the gate we weren't sure if we would be allowed onto the campus. They allowed us on after showing ID and allowing the gate personnel to check out the vehicle we were in. I am glad that went made the stop the chapel and the campus were great and the visitor center had a nice museum and gift shop.

We surprised our daughter going here on a trip out west. She has been eyeing it as a college in many years time. It's a pretty neat place, the campus, from what we can see has the usual college adornments but with uniforms and planes--pretty cool! We were allowed to see the church cathedral as well. They have a short movie that shows the 1st year of life at the academy which I highly recommend.

Kim Nguyen

This is the public visitors center where you kick off your visit to the base. Make sure you go to the North end of the base to enter. The visit is free and has plenty of parking for all sizes of vehicles. The first thing you see when you enter is the gift shop which has great made products and shirts.

Emily Bever

The drive to the visitor center from the north gate is worth it, just to see the gorgeous campus! It's a short, relatively easy 0.3 mile hike from the visitor center down to the Cadet Chapel, which has amazing stained glass and a neat organ. Inside the visitor center, there's a 20 minute video about the Air Force and the academy plus some displays on cadet life (and a gift shop for all your USAF swag needs!). Pick up a free map to take a self-guided driving tour of the campus.

Joe Grispart

A must-see for visitors to the USAFA. There is a 20 minute movie that shows what cadet life is like, from the first day through graduation. There is a gift shop with all kinds of things for sale.

Mary Viney

Kevin A

Loved every minute of the visit. Must see if you are in Colorado Springs.

Doug W

worth the visit. interesting overview of the academy. chapel was very interesting to see and learn about. get good view of the academy but did not see much about info if people wanted more info about admissions if that is what you want. may be possible but not from what I saw.

mike hammel

God bless our troups!!

Bill Stein

Open 9-5 every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day. Enter the North Gate, only need your driver's license to get in. Grads give guided tours of the Chapel. The movie "A Year In The Blue" is 21 minutes long and runs every half hour throughout the day. You should go see it!

Billy Tharp

The Visitor Center and Gift Shop are combined in one building and very well done. Everything is neat, clean and well organized, as is to be expected from a military facility. The informational displays about the Academy are well presented and very educational. The Gift Shop has a large variety of items ranging from inexpensive to very expensive. I was delighted to find a "penny smasher" inside as well. On a side note, The trail to the Cadet Chapel can be a challenge if you have difficulty walking or other difficulties. The attendant at the reception desk can give you driving directions for that. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Bronson Cambra

Great place

Steve Johnsen

I've driven by the Air Force Academy so many times, but never came to visit. I'm really glad I did! It's very interesting to come to the visitor center and learn about the life of the cadets. There is a really nice trail that goes from the Visitor Center up to the chapel. The chapel is absolutely gorgeous! And the visitor center has a really good film and displays about the Air Force Academy history and life at the Academy. Visitors should be aware that there is a security check at the entrance to the Air Force Academy. Everyone will need photo ID, and no weapons are allowed on the grounds.

PSax

Be sure to watch the movie about one year as a cadet.

Matita .Salazar

Huge facility, super clean =)

Rick Walkenhorst

A must visit for everyone. Be sure to watch the short movie on a year as a cadet.

BAnAnA Ortiz

Very cool place to learn about the Air Force.

Justin Ellsworth

For visitors - simply a must stop. They center walks you through the history of USAFA (and the Air Force). They have a theater that is on a loop to show you a myriad of short films (life as a cadet, etc.). Inside the visitors center, they have a solid gift shop with lots of memorabilia to take home and a Subway for a quick bite. They have a few trails that off shoot from the Visitors Center that take you over to the Chapel where you can take in views of most of the Academy... again a must stop if you are visiting!

Dominic Lowrey

Michelle Ashton

Very interesting place to see.

Heather McH

Totally worth going to the Visitors Center. It's a shirt walk to the famous Chapel. The Visitors Center itself provides a good deal of information about the Academy itself, when it was built, and some of the activities that take place on campus. Don't forget the video!

Oscar Ramos

Awesome place to visit !!!

Doug Duvigneaud

I've only been once but we were lucky enough to see the falcons and their handlers while we were there! I didn't hydrate enough and got altitude sickness after climbing the stairs to the Visitor Center but fortunately, there's a short video about cadet life that I was able to watch, and after drinking lots of water and sitting for a while, I was able to enjoy the sights. The campus is beautiful and one of the buildings near the Chapel - The Center for Character and Leadership Development - is shaped like the tail fin of a B-52. You can see it and the spires of the Chapel in one of the pictures I've uploaded. In my opinion, it's a must-see place in Colorado!

Dianna Sigmon

Loved the history of the place.

Rita Trinidad

Lot's to look at and great video to watch

Jean Doiron

Great prices and great food!

Steffanie Rios

A must do when visiting Colorado Springs!! The diaplays, into video and shop are fantastic! When parked at the center, take the short walk to see the Cadet Chapel and stop at the lookout and information displays along the way. If I could give more stars for this area I definitely would

Very impressive grounds and facilities. But that's to be expected from our U.S. Air Force! Friendly people all around to answer any questions my son and I had during our visit 6/22/18. Was great to talk with a woman in your gift shop who was from Milwaukee. Good to talk with a fellow Wisconsinite!

Very informative center and location to start your tour of the Air Force Academy. Sweet and short walk through of the history of the academy, a video to view, a place to grab a quick bite or drink and a great selection of merchandise for all price ranges! The entire family enjoyed our visit.

Geoff Mulligan

Usafa is amazing. But im biased since i graduated from there. The visitor center is wonderful.

Steven Oswald

The hours of admittance are very inconvenient for civilians. I understand that there needs to be guidelines and rules. But, there could be or should be for extenuating circumstances. My niece is a cadet at the academy. She had made arrangements with her parents for a long weekend visit. I was to pick her up at 7:00am and drive her to Ft. Morgan where she was to meet her dad. When I got there, I was told that I could not enter till 9:00am. I mentioned to the guard that the sign inside academy grounds stated hours of 0530am to 2200pm. He said that that is only for academy personal. Hours need to be relaxed for extenuating circumstances to accommodate these types of situations. Be more flexible and understanding.

Jerry Guebard

AF Academy...what better place

Catherine Hallett

Pretty place for Air Force Training Academy

Randy Smith

Always an inspiration to visit here. We come here everytime we are traveling within an hour or so. We love the history, tradition and respect this place invokes. We are a proud American family.
