This was the first time our family had experienced river rafting and we were lucky enough to do so when the river was running at a peak level. The Arkansas was as unruly as ever! Rye navigated that boat through waters that would have challenged the most experienced of rafters! First time rafting, and this was AWESOME! We were trying to have a family adventure, and took a 5 year old with us. Obviously we chose a tamer option, so this was supposed to be more of a spectator sport while the guide did all the work. Olivia was the BEST. She took us through a couple of bigger waves (go ahead and get the jackets by the way, you'll be glad for the option), and really knew a lot about the geography, which made the whole trip down the river interesting. She has a genuine passion for the sport, and was very lively. Even though she had to concentrate on not capsizing us, she still made sure to make it fun for the group (like I said, small child). Very much recommend this group, and definitely hope to make it back again.

This place was amazing the staff from making reservations to getting off the bus. Was the best customer service ever. We took a big group and the guides were great . An incident happened there and all staff made the situation like nothing happened. And treated everyone with respect and dignity. Would recommend this for big groups and small .. I have rafting before but the treatment I got yesterday was 5 stars. I plan on making this place a yearly visit.

All staff were attentive to guests from the moment they arrived to be sure their individual needs were met for the trip they signed up for. The center was clean and organized. The lead guide was clear about the current conditions (which were stout) and spoke to groups personally to be sure they knew what was ahead on the river. They were clear that safety and choice were priorities. My son and I had Bowlin who knew the river well. Our paddling group could follow his clear directions and with the river offering its own version of excitement, we had an awesome trip through Browns Canyon and the Fractions! Kudos to Kevin who led us down in the kayak and Spencer +... Ty, American Adventure Expeditions for the awesome time & memories!

We had a wonderful adventure with Kayla as our guide. She was very thorough with her instructions and worked so well with our 9 year old! We had a family of ages 9-45 and she made it amazing for all of us. She always kept us safe and told us about the area as we rafted. She was polite and a great leader and had a wonderful personality! The entire staff was helpful and helped each other out with great team work and enthusiasm. You can tell the passion they all feel for the river and rafting making the experience top notch! The food was good too!

American Adventure Expeditions totally delivered for the first rafting trip I took with my fiance and 12 year old son. The office was really clear, upfront and professional over the phone. The entire experience was amazing. We were with 2 seniors and 2 children (7 +10). I never felt that any of us were at risk. Our kids were in pure joy. They are a first class organization. loved the crew and the experience. We did the full day and morning was nice and relaxing with lots of sight seeing and a little action to keep things moving along. afternoon was more action and adrenaline running. lunch provided was also very good. (hamburgers (meat substitute also provided if preferred) , chips, fruit, lemonade) everyone was very nice and the guides were informative but also down to earth and pleasant.

My family and I had so much fun on our rafting experience. Tyler was our guide and he did great. IT was obvious that he felt real comfortable on the water and knew what he was doing, but he also added the entertainment factor, which a good guide should! :) We reserved our trip a month or so in advance for a class 3-4. I am very happy that they talked to us about taking us on a younger part of the river that is usually a class 1-2 since the river was very high and we had our 13 yo boy with us. We still seen class 3 rapids on this journey. Safety first ;)

EDIT 2019-08-10:. Been here twice this year! In July with Pat and today with Dylan. Both excellent and fun guides! July was insane with 3500 CFS but today was closer to 1000. I am still amazed at the fun and professionalism that these folks deliver while on and off the river. We're excited to keep coming back! Trevor was an excellent guide down Brown's Canyon today. He's easy to talk to, great at directions, and completely excellent at not getting anyone killed. We had a wonderful time and good humor and advice ensured we had a great rafting experience. Everyone we worked with to get set up for our large group, get fitted, and drive out to the location was friendly, professional and fun. Definitely check out this place and see why it has great reviews and why the Browns Canyon is one of the most visited rafting locations around!

Rafting with these folks was a highlight of our trip. They were so friendly and knowledgeable. We did the Brown's Canyon trip. On the way to the put-in, we saw big horn sheep. Then, on the trip, we saw a bald eagle. All of the guides were super fun and knew exactly what they were doing. Aaron was our guide, and I cannot say enough nice things about him. Even for a first timer, they stated the status of river/currents to me before the trip itself and offered easier alternatives. I decided to go with my original plan of Brown Canyon which even though is easy-intermediate but due to recent snow melt turned to intermediate-advanced. They take good care of you by going over all the potential hazards one would face ahead. Once you're on the boat, they take time to get y'all adjusted to the flow of rivers and directions of your guide so it builds your muscle memory and coordination. Our guide Ry, was absolutely fun and caring to ride with.. he made sure we were all in sync as a team and also cared for riders outside of our boat that fell off boat during a rapid. He was good to talk to, as well he explained to us about what's coming up and what to expect. After coming back from rafting, they give you time to take off the FREE suites/shoes/jacket/helmet they provide as a part of your package. The facility is equipped with changing rooms, shop to buy souvenirs and professional pics of your rafting trip.

There were just 2 in our party and only 5 in our raft as we made our adventure down the Arkansas River in Buena Vista. Our guide “Mike” was absolutely amazing!!! He not only made our trip educational but we had a blast as we floated down the river and went through several scary yet really FUN obstacles!! I would definitely recommend American Adventure Expeditions river rafting to anyone wanting to add a little excitement to their vacation in Colorado. It’s well worth it and for me and my friend it’s something we’ve always wanted to do. It’s a check off our “Bucket List”

We had a fantastic time and will be back again next year. I was very nervous about rafting with the rivers running so fast and high this year. Mike, the owner, was very nice and very upfront about the faster rapids and unsolicitedly offered us a trip with calmer waters. We decided to stick with our original trip and I'm glad we did. Chad, or guide, was knowledgeable, confident and friendly. Before each section of rapids, he explained what we'd experience and what he'd be calling out for us to do. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and professional - they take what they do very seriously but have fun while they're doing it. They were organized and had great gear. Every rafter after their run down the rapids had a smile on their face.

Fantastic experience! I went on a family trip of 9 people in total, 4 of us went on one raft with another group of 2, the other 5 of us went on another raft with a single rafter. The guides were all amazing people with great attitudes, even in the blazing sun on shore while loading/unloading the rafts. We did the half day adventure which was 6/7 rapids (I forget), complete with history and facts of the area you go through. Lots of nerves from new people fearing they'll fall out, but just listen to your guides and you'll have a great trip with lots of splashing, big drops, twists, and turns, at fast speeds and, at times, brief and slow wanderings on calm water. 11/10 would do again.

Great experience! Wanted class 4 rapids and that’s what we got with Numbers! We had to do a different route because Numbers was closer but it was still amazing. No one fell off the raft and Bowlin was a great guide. The guides informed us of what to do in different situations to help us stay safe in case we fell off the raft. Wet suits and the sun kept us warm enough and we had a great day!

My boyfriend and I had the opportunity to go rafting with Rye. I highly recommend him if you would like an exciting tour. He knew anything and everything about the area and constantly was cluing us in with facts about our surroundings. The tour started off with some "level 2" rapids and steadily increased up to levels 3 and 4! We were never bored but at the same time, never felt unsafe. We stopped for a tasty lunch and then finished the rest of the afternoon. HIGHLY recommend!!! We definitely plan on returning for another trip with AAE and Rye!

We’ve used AAE several times over the years. Their guides are professional, well trained, and friendly. They have runs from class 2-5, so whether you’re new to rafting or are really experienced and ready for a challenge, AAE Has the run for you. Also, when it comes to rafting, you can’t beat the Arkansas River. I highly recommend AAE.

I did both rafting tours and it was worth every penny. The river levels were up very high and the water was very cold, but we had excellent guides and it was one of the most exhilarating outdoor experiences I’ve ever had. 5 stars. Highly recommend. I’m coming back again someday with my family. Also, go to the Deerhammer distillery and get a bottle of the single malt. Excellent stuff!

Our guide Tom was great! He gave us solid instructions before getting into the water and "tested" our paddling skills during the beginning, which came in handy later. He gave us a nice history tour about nearly every stretch down the river about rocks, park lands, homes along the river, and animals. The views along the river are beautiful. When we hit a challenging section, another raft in our group tipped over. Tom's voice changed from chill bird guide to stern boat captain. Our boat of 6 guests rescued 2 of the other guests who fell in the water all while paddling through the challenging stretch without issue. Tom made the whole experience fun, informative, and safe. Highly recommend.

Our group of 6 really enjoyed the Half Day Browns Canyon Rafting Adventure. First, we got changed and outfitted in wetsuits, PDFs, helmets, and some jackets to keep warm. Note that they tell you to check in 45 minutes in advance of departure, and you should listen to give yourself and the guides time to get you ready. At 10am, we took off on a quick 15 minute schoolbus ride to the put-in point. During the ride, one of the guides gave a thorough and entertaining safety rundown. Once we arrived at the put-in, we got some dry land instruction on body positioning, rowing, and safety maneuvers. Then we were off. The first 2 miles were a milder part of the river, giving us time to polish our technique before hitting the gnarlier rapids. The rapids were challenging but super fun, and our guide Tom was awesome at telling us what to do and encouraging us throughout. Our legs were jelly afterwards as we stumbled back to the bus to head back to the shop.

I highly recommend this outfitter for any adventure, specifically whitewater rafting. The facilities are high-quality with equipment that is reliable and taken care of. We had an isolated inter-personal incident at one of our rafting trips that was excellently handled by management/the owner. No outfitter is perfect, but the leadership of American Adventure Expeditions is 100% willing to improve and grow as a company. We were already impressed by the quality brick and mortar, but are now even more pleased by the heart and soul.

Awesome rafting experience! I went with a group of friends (10 total). They put us in two rafts traveling together. My guide was Kayla, while the other raft got Ryan. Kayla was very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas, giving us a guided tour of all the landmarks. When things got exciting, and two of us fell out of the boat, she had everything under control and we were back safe in the raft very quickly. Ended up being a fun highlight of the trip. We went for the first time with our family of 6. My kids range from 9-15. It was the best and most fun experience we have ever had while here in Colorado. The guide Sean was fantastic. He coached you through each rapid and you knew exactly what to expect. Sean was great with my daughter who was very apprehensive. She loved it once we were done! We are so grateful we used AAE because of the equipment they provide with no additional charge and the staff was five star. Thank you AAE! We will be back!

Rather expensive, but a flawless experience. We booked the Upper Brown, but upon arrival they advised us it was unsafe due to snow melt (we have a 7- and 15-year-old) and took us on the Lower Brown instead. Less exciting, but we were glad they were looking out for us. Kaylah, our guide, was superb. She was knowledgeable about the river, plants, and animals we saw. We did the Numbers Deluxe Tour, which includes rafting Browns Canyon in the morning, lunch then rafting Numbers in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the water is very high right now, we we had to sub Fractions for Numbers. We can’t say enough about our experience and the staff at AAE. Levi was our guide for both rafting portions. He is extremely knowledgeable and a genuinely nice guy. We felt very prepared for each rapid. The lunch, burgers and fresh out of the oven cookies, was surprisingly good. For the Fractions portion, we were the only raft, but we had a safety kayaker join us (joins all advanced tours and/or tours with only one raft). We also had two off-duty guides join our party, which was great. Our raft did flip over during the Fractions, but we all were very well prepared for this; we knew what to do. Levi had the raft flipped back over within seconds and within a minute or two, everyone had gotten back to the raft. This is rare and absolutely will not deter me from rafting again. I appreciated the safety kayaker, as he was able to pull two people back to the raft. For the advanced tours, in case someone falls off the raft or the raft tips, I highly encourage you being at least a relatively good swimmer. We had to swim through rapids to hook back up with the raft and with the water temperature, life preserver and strength of the rapid, it was relatively difficult to do so. Don’t let that discourage you! Just a forewarning. Highly recommend! I would say to ask for Levi, but all of the guides were wonderful, so you won’t go wrong!

PROS GREAT GUIDES -- The trip was amazing! -- Rayni our guide made this trip a memorable one, we've been back 4 times previous to this trip, she's the best guide so far -- The rafting equipment was very well kept, and in good condition -- Some discounts available for repeat customers CONS -- Some of the counter customer service is rather poor -- Nickel and dime for everything under the sun -- Expect to get gouged for pictures I would have given this 5 starts but the gentleman behind the counter was exceptionally rude and dismissive. I brought my OWN GoPro and simply asked if they wouldn't mind leasing out a plastic screw so I could mount my GoPro to a helmet. I didn't ask for free, I expected to pay, but was told rather sternly and rudely that they wont do that and that I had to rent their GoPro entirely. I have been here multiple times with multiple family members (we were a group of 8 this trip) the way I was treated, and absurdity of this (rule) made me feel like gouging customers for pictures or video was the real goal. Based on this experience I was left feeling like my business was unnecessary, and unappreciated, and I wasn't spending enough. If the gentleman behind the counter was my employee I would have fired them for how I was treated. Based on this recent experience I will probably never come back, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. It's obvious this company has become too big to be concerned about taking care of people and more concerned for fleecing every customer for as much $$ as possible. There are a multitude of other competing companies out there all with great guides, and on the same stretch of river, I recommend anyone looking for a good service find a place where you are appreciated as a customer, not taken advantage of. I don't normally leave reviews like this for anyone, but this is the second time I experienced this poor customer service from this particular company so I feel like it is warranted.

We brought our church youth group for this adventure. We had an excellent time. We were all safe (an important concern with teenagers and when responsible for other people's kids). We all had a fantastic time. The guide in my boat, Matt, was patient and fun. Serious when needed, yet personable and easy to feel comfortable with. Surprised a friend with a bachelorette party in Buena Vista in early May just as AAE was getting back on the water (thankfully with above-average flows this spring). We purchased the Browns Canyon rafting and hot springs package for the five of us. Package came with wetsuits, splash jackets, and booties which are a must this time of year. Our raft guide Bowlin kept us entertained and out of the water in the morning (which was much appreciated this early in the season- brr!) and grilled up a great burger lunch afterward. His knowledge of the canyon and the area was much appreciated and he definitely kept my one friend at ease who had never rafted before. Tan Santa provided an excellent shuttle to and from the boathouse filled with fun facts on the drive back. A soak in the Mt. Princeton hot springs gave our cold toes relief in the afternoon. Perfect combo of a morning on the river and an afternoon relaxing soak (although the creekside pools were already closed for runoff during our trip). I'd definitely recommend the company, Bowlin as a guide, and hope to get out on the Arkansas again soon!
