Where is Old Trail Town?

REVIEWS OF Old Trail Town IN Wyoming

Debbie White

This was such a neat place to see. So glad we found it. 27 buildings that are original and have been moved here to make this town. Jeremiah Johnson was reburied here and he is buried with others in an area that looks western with the iron fence. This was an enjoyable history lesson. Would advise going.

Donna Marie

It was cool to see some old artifacts, and i appreciate the attempt at keeping everything authentic.. however There was not much info on anything. Some things where an example of what was. and quite a few of the buildings you could not get into because they are locked. Overall i feel they over charged me. It is the reason for the 2 stars $5 would be the max I'd pay to see this old trail town.

Marie Schelkle

One of best western historical towns ever visited. Filled with authentic displays. A must see on Cody.

Dannice Peterson

Very cool old history with buildings & interiors.

Sandra Hartsough

Carol Brooks

So much more than we thought it would be. So happy we decided to check it out!

Seth Stachlowski

Drove hours to get here to find out they are closed for the season, while their website and voicemail state they are open. Update your status to reflect actual business hours.

Richard Rhone

Just one of the best places to see a non-Hollywood Old West

Rayne Brafford

Such a interesting place to visit. A lot of history. You can spend hours there

Bill Hunter

Enjoyed the hell outta this place! Great for young kids...

Susan Clark

If you love history this is the place to be.

Rick Smith

Best part of our trip .good people who run this place !

Carter Kowitz

Just like what a Old Western I'd imagine looks like but there was no interactions with anything it was just viewing.

Deanna Stubbs

This place was really cool... lots of parking for cars, including RVs. I honestly didnt think it would be real busy there cause I didn't think it would be much to do and see... I was wrong!! It was really interesting!!! Full of artifacts and loads of history... the gentleman at the check in was nice to go step by step through every area and give a little background information on it.. they are doing some remodeling in the near future.. I wouldn't mind stopping back again and seeing it once that is all done... some pretty cool history on the Sundance kid, the lady in blue and the Hole in the Wall gang! Worth the stop!

Matthew Allison

Not worth it. A bunch of building that represent what the wild west looked like. Plus several buildings were closed. Paid way to much for a 10 minute walk.

Lavon Price

A must do while in Cody ... so much history

Jeanette Rodgers

Looked like Knott's so we almost skipped it. That would have been a mistake. It was important to us that the buildings are historical, authentic, not reproductions, and they did have very interesting histories of their own while containing many interesting items. This is a "collection of historic western buildings and artifacts, dating from 1879–1901."

Penny Cloutier

Would have loved this place more if it were a bit more reasonable to get in. We didnt pay to go in, but walked the grounds we could and took pics, then the skies decided to open up on us and downpoured, so we left.

Billy Hanna

History of Cody Wyo Absolutely

esma wamnes

Great place to learn a little of history.

HorseHavenRanch1996

Very well presented for viewing & information. Well worth the reasonable entry fee. You can browse quickly thru in about 30-45 minutes if limited on time, or easily take up to 3 hours to read about the History and other informative tidbits. The displays, for the most part, are period correct, and authentic. I saw several young children enjoying the Museum. They had roping dummies for them to play & sharpen their skills. My favorites were Butch Cassidy & the Hole in the Wall Gang's hideout, and the Saloon where they spent some time as well. There are even bullet holes in the door!! The largest building has an extremely old Canoe, along with other relics and photos, again great presentation!!! What a wonderful piece of Western History. Thank you Cody, Wyoming for your efforts to share and keep the old West alive for all to enjoy. Well Done!!!

Michael Hegefeld

Very informative. Preserving History is important! Thank you for what you do.

Justin Moore

These folks are doing an important job of keeping American history alive. Very interesting place, definitely check it out!

Paul Smith

Lots of history. Fun place to visit.

Megan Martin

This was a good place for us to stop with two toddlers on a long drive. There were a lot of interesting artifacts and some of the buildings were pretty cool. I would have liked a bit more information about some of the items shown. The babies got to stretch their legs, though, and we all got to see something representative of the region we were visiting.

megan ailey

Very interesting if you are into history!

Kathy Pence

Original site of Cody Wyoming. Jeremiah Johnson's finale resting place. Along with other trappers in the 1800 to 1900's.

Keith Grover

Great to see how pioneers lived.

Debra Cameron

I loved seeing old trail town! I would definitely come back to Cody to see it again and see the added changes. Well worth it. I liked it much better than the five museum place. I wouldn't go back to that one.

James Blodgett

The Old trail town is as an authentic experience of seeing artifacts and buildings that are periodically correct as any in the west. It was a wonderful experience that we all enjoyed so much. We have seen lots of historical buildings and items across the U.S and this is well worth the money! Everyone in our group from 7-60 thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Mike Diener

Not as interesting as I'd hoped

Helen 532

We really loved this Old Trail Town. There is so much to see and Cowboy Bob has a great presentation and he'll also be able to tell you interesting fun facts about the era. A must see place to visit if you're anywhere near Cody, Wy.

Jocelyn Le Conte

We were staying next door and couldn't pass up the chance to see some authentic Wild West history. The price is right for a walk around a historical street reconstructed from buildings from the local area, including three frequented by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. There are also several grave sites, including that of Jeremiah Johnson. Great photo opportunities and definitely worth a stop.

Eric Rhodes

Very cool. Such places are getting more rare. Support them.

janeal kitchens

Neat looking place. Very authentic historical old west town. Fun

Jeremy Johnston

Great place to learn the exciting history of Wyoming's Big Horn Basin.

Richard Selfe

How the Wild West was.

Joe Talley

Great walk through history.

Rob W

Great place nice people. Real artifacts. Inexpensive treat

Chris Sperling

Lots of old west history, great stop

Stephen Stacey

I definitely recommend this place. We were traveling from Yellowstone's east gate and wanted something fun to do in Cody. We had seen this place from the road and decided to check it out. The price was reasonable and they gave us a military discount. The pictures at this place all but take themselves. It's so easy to take pictures you'll love to have for years. Not only is the town picturesque, but you have the opportunity to learn so much about the real old west. It made me love Wyoming even more than I already do!

Brian David Carrico

A great bit if history. Very well put together.

Daniel Robinson

Nice history, worth stopping. Restrooms terrible tho.

Perry Tenbrink

So much history, amazing.

Angie Madden

Good size collection of historic buildings and artifacts. The gravesites of the people buried here add to the atmosphere of an old west museum. Interesting place if interested in antiques and history.

richard melton

Well worth the time.

Larry Knight

Neat place.

Mary Foust

Lots of great history

Nick Lucas

Awesome! Knowledgeable staff and really well kept and neat all around if you’re into old west history!

Pam Brasil

Its fun to see the cabins and artifacts. We visit every time we're in Cody.

Lou Ann Heath

What a gem! Old (and real) West history and so well preserved.

Benfleet Theatre School

Excellent insight in to how the history makers of pioneering the American West lived. The lady at the entrance gave us lots of added information & was so friendly.

Travis Bunn

What a great place to see the past and learn. You can almost hear the spurs and smell the gun powder . Great for kids, families and also good handicapped access.

Sib Stone

A must see! The buildings are all original that have been moved to this location from somewhere in Wyoming. You can go inside most of them, and Jerimiah "Liver Eatin" Johnson is buried there along with 5 others. Bob Edgar, who's picture is last, initiated Trail Town. He is also a local trick sharpshooter and a wonderful man!

Richard Hill

Nice to see these old cabins being preserved in a group setting. Gives a good idea of life then and how little they had.

Hroller McKnutt

Excellent history presentation, fascinating site

Barbara Hoover

Got to go see it very cool place

Maximiliano Vallejos

This place is full of history! Great for kids too!

Betsy McCarthy

Amazing stop. Lots of history and well preserved old homes. Really enjoyed.

James Canady

This place was very interesting and educational and was well worth the price...was really pleasantly surprised by it all...

Thomas Dickson

Wonderful history

Brian Bialik

Really nice place but I don’t like the fact they charge you adult price for kids 12 and over. Give me a break, they couldn’t get here without me and don’t take up anymore space then my 10 year old...

Linda Craig

Great memories and information

Zachary Garcia

We stopped here on our way through Cody with three kids. It was a nice relaxing stroll through an old western village comprised of a lot (or maybe all) of original cabins and buildings. It is not a large area to explore, but there is plenty to look at and read. I am not a big reader and it took us about two hours to get through. There is history to read about. Graves of historic persons to look at. There are old carriages to look at. And at the end you can try your hand at roping a wooden steer. There is a decent gift shop. The bathrooms are porta-potty's, but they are wheelchair accessible.

Ina Acton

I was very surprised about all there was to see. Very educational.

Monika JK

If u passing through, stop a visit this place well worth

Carl Swoyer

Al original building's. Also great history.

Mary Jo Cline

Nice place but not worth the ticket price

Jenny Zuege

My son loved it. Was very neat place to see. Although I will say I think the price is a little steep. $10 for adults is a little much. $5 for adults and maybe $2-3 for kids would be a better price. My mom and grandma chose not to go in because the price to enter was too mu h.

Scott Broughton

The stories characters are more interesting than the Old West buildings here. Some items on display are not period correct. Otherwise Old Trail provides insight into WY life leading up to the 20th century.

Patricia Kruck

We enjoyed touring this little western town. There is lots of interesting history and artifacts. We had a 5 year old with us and she loved trying to lasso the bull horns. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Cody Wyoming area.

William Miller

If you like the old west this is the place to see

Nick Doriot

This place was awesome! We stopped at a few other places that were overpriced in my opinion. This place is all the bang for your buck. A quaint little old west frontier village with all the history and historical artifacts you could want. Great for kids as you can try your hand with a lasso and the adults will love the nostalgia and history. Do yourself a favor and swing by for a visit.

Karl Hutchison

Very well done creation of old pioneer town. If in Cody you must walk through this museum.

Katherine

The history is so interesting, hopefully it is something that will always be around.

Cedric M

Impressive conservation work.

joseph chazanow

Melvyn Klaus

Interesting place to visit. Many authentic items. We'll put together.

Michele Baker

Very interesting. Loved the history. Interesting seeing the grave of Jaramiah Johnson and others buried there. Worth a look see!

Jim Carr

Really cool and worth the minimal price. Take 1-2 hours depending on your pace.

Old Trail Town is located, in the Cody, Wyoming USA. This a kind of living museum and historical site of America where all stories represented by the old artifacts lying there. I like to see this place. To me to come to this place is looks like to go back to the Old Wild West. Adventuring by the time machine that cost you USD10 per person, Hahaha. A kind of story since the beginning of life on earth, the world is always divided by good guys and the bad guys, such stories that we can see and hear in this Old Trail Town. As long as there's life, they ill always be a war between Angels and Demons. As a historical site, this place is nice and has a lot of things to see. It might very hot there if you come on daylight and I believe there would be so cold at night. But it would be good if they curator of this site, make a kind of attraction called night at the Old Trail Town experiences. Listening to the music from the salon, turn the traditional lighting system on and festival of wearing cowboys and cowgirls suite. Reminding me of the Ghost Tour of Alamo and the OK Corral town.

Mike Johnson

Cool little town. 26 old buildings. Native American and western memorabilia artifacts. It has a cabin that was once used by Kid Curry and the Sundance Kid, used as a hideout, among others. There is a tour (check website for pricing).

Jane Guldin

Really enjoyed this attraction. Some interesting history here. Spent about two hours here.

Kat Harker

I wasn't sure about this, but it was pretty interesting and seeing how they lived, worked and the tools they had to use. I think you should see it.

Jackie Stanley

Interesting history of the Cody Wyoming area

Daniel Fitzgerald

Tons of interesting stuff to look at from the West and real cabins from the 1800's. Worth seeing and learning how these people lived.

Loved seeing all the old buildings and the old relics that they had in them. It's great that they are being preserved.

Cory Davis

Tons of awsome history

kathy Livengood

Fun place to walk around and learn history in Wyoming.

misty christensen

This "town" is actually buildings that have been moved from other locations. The staff were nmgreat and were knowledgeable about the different buildings and areas that the buildings had come from. The parking was a little tricky but ample. This tricky part was the way people where parking and there was no one directing. Lack of knowledgeable or respect on guests part. There where also children picking up and tormenting the wildlife and with the two staff in the office answering questions and selling tickets the animals continued to be harassed. Overall it was a nice experience. A little over priced

Jerry Westerman

What a collection of artifacts and buildings. For old west history buffs it's a must see if in Cody WY area.

Chris Kingston

Such a cool piece of history!

Monte Hollandsworth

If history is your bag then this is the place. Liver eating Johnson is burried here

Could have been a little more consumer friendly. Self guided tour . No one to explain what you're looking at

Vickey Parker

Amazing feat to move these historical cabins. A must see Cody.

Benjamin Smith

Was very expressed

Hunter Mitchell

It was a great day at the area and I was wondering if there was any museum then I saw this place and the place was great the only thing I wish was there is an actual horse pulling something there that would have made it amazing. Thanks for the great experience though.

jacob root

Really enjoyed the saloon that the Hole in the Wall gang frequented. Reasonably priced and a lot to see.

Russ Seidel

Extraordinary collection of old buildings, artifacts, wagons, and historical items. As close to the real deal as it gets. Highly recommend.

Cory Kirby

Great piece of history.

Amy Rauert

Husband and I loved it! Lots of history and information. Entrance fee was reasonable too.

Mark Middleton

One our favorite places when we stayed in Cody. Love this area and Old Trail Town was very interesting to visit. Walk at your own pace. Really old, authentic cabins. You will even see a picture of a very famous movie star in one of the cabins. On site parking and very reasonable admission. Lady at office will provide nice background information.

Kellen Phillips

An okay place to be. It has historical significance for the locals, and the items they have are interesting, but I thought the $10 per person was a bit steep. It was interesting to stop by once, but it's not really a place that I think I will go back to.

Davide Cavallini

We got there and it was closed. But the old man who was managing the place open up for us and we paid half the price. Probably 1/4 of the rooms were open but at the end he opened also the museum and it was amazing. Great Pisces from the fur rush, Indians and cowboys items. Very well preserved. It definitely worth a stop! Thank you for opening the gate for us.

Hikari Castle

Amazing history here. There are old artifacts that have been found and are on display here. There are old firearms, arrowheads, clothes, containers, wagons, and more! These cabins really give you an idea of what life was like in the old west. The graves of Jeremiah Johnson and a few others are here. And it's only $10, what a great price! Right across is Cody Firearms Experience where you can shoot what Jeremiah Johnson used to shoot too! Great experience!

dot wingless

Very nice place full of history. Feels authentic (and it is).

Gerry F

Quick visit, unimpressed. Seems a bit rundown. Then again it's a oooooold West town.

Gary Remy

Nice collection of old historic buildings. Would be nice if they had a working blacksmith shop, or a carpentry shop to add some interaction with the visitors. Could spend two summers there just repairing and preserving the leather tack which is drying out in numerous locations.

Xavier Johnson

Great place to see what is was like years ago loved it I will definitely go again

Willey Childress

Very good history

Julie Kelley

It costs $10 to get in. We looked at it from the parking lot to avoid the fee.

Leigh Lesniewski

Definitely worthwhile! Not all of them were open to view

Joel Fulton

Fantastic preservation of American Old West buildings!!!

A real look back in time. Enjoyed the stroll through all the old western buildings.

Denny Dickard

It is not all done yet

Shawn Fenstermacher

Awesome experience.

Kasper Bosscher

Very nice rebuild old town. All original buildings from the area. Gives you a real nice inside in how log cabins where build and how the people lived back in the days. Nice description of the buildings and a story of the history of each one. Also a lot of cariages and tools are on display. The entry fee is small and used to preserve the buildings.

Lonnie Ruff

Very interesting place. Almost felt like your were living the past.

Nice place, worth the stop. We were there with our kids, they enjoyed it (especially the lasso practice at the end). A nice collection of old log cabins of historical significance, furniture and artefacts from the 19th century.

Erin Hunter

I was apprehensive about stopping here but my wife convinced me to go, and I'm honestly very happy we stopped. Each cabin is filled with old artifacts and are incredibly well maintained. It's only $10 per adult and it's so worth it to see an old west town in all its glory
