Great learning experience and makes you wonder in awe of how difficult our pioneer days were. God bless the men and women that led the way. Fort Laramie has done a great job of preserving our rich history. May it continue for years to come!
I really like this historical stuff. This is a very well preserved/restored site. The presentation of the Old Bedlam and the Calvary barracks are well done, the detail is perfect. I really learned a tremendous amount and appreciate Wyoming more after visiting.
Wonderful historical site. Plan to spend some time there to get through all the exhibits.
Great historical site with lots of restored buildings and originals as well, free admission and plenty of parking. The video in the visitor center was very helpful, but it would have been nice to get more of the native history as well. Dogs are allowed on the grounds and the trails, but not inside the buildings (which makes sense). It's nice that they are accommodating though, even going as far as having some dog watering stations. Definitely worth a detour if you want to jump into some US History
A nice mix of ruins and restored buildings. Lots of fascinating western history.
Very nice, quiet park. Would have been nice to see some of the park's military history and uniforms on display. Or some sort of interpretation.
If google maps says take a left when you leave the park, DO NOT do it. This park has many wonderful buildings to explore and walk around. Need a few hours to go through each one.
Well worth the visit. Great frontier history operated by very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Great visitor center and the fort in general was great to see. Would like to return and spend more time exploring.
We have gone here as a school group for many years. The kids love the experience and our guide is amazing! He is always in character and knows how to hold the interest of the students.
It was a wonderful experience, so much history.
Great place to learn about our history
A surprise find. Was searching for gasoline and found this treat. A fair number of original buildings are left. Rcommend!
Interesting and fun. Cold day.
Great piece of Wyoming history to check out and explore!
Great history lesson!
Very interesting! Wish we would have had more time to spend there.
If you are in the area definitely don't miss it.
Very well preserved. Interesting history and they we very well prepared for the Total eclipse event.
Came here for the Aug. 2017 solar eclipse. The park service employees were helpful, courteous, and friendly. They did an awesome job preparing for the event and making sure it went smoothly.
Beautiful historical site. Well maintained. It's like stepping back in time!
The best undiscovered historic place in Wyoming.
Loved the visit and so glad I went. Can't wait to visit again.
Very friendly people. A great early stop on the way west. Many interesting items and facts about the opening of the old west
Beautiful restauration nice people love the video
The food was great and the staff was kind and friendly
This place is a hidden gem...from its history, beautiful setting, state of preservation, and ghost legends. Don't pass it up if you love western history. Ask the rangers about the legend of the Lady in Green...it's fascinating!
Great place to take the kids. Really well preserved
Good looking restoration of history.
You will enjoy the experience of studying about how the Western wagon routes were protected by the Army. In addition how the war department broke the treaties with the plans Indians.
Great history display
Going back again! So much history to learn.
Amazing old fort. Get the guided tour
So much fun and history, we loved it!
This is the best Fort...authentic, nice museum and visitor center, real WiFi, some food available. This is a large park...lots of walking. It's really well done and there are people in period dress who explain what their role was in the …
Great place to visit to see the challenges of the soldiers who served there.
Cool historic site! Staff are knowledgeable and love sharing the history.
Interesting place to visit. Beautiful grounds; nice work on the restorations and grounds.
Great place to visit. Very well kept and great people working there. We use to visit every 4th of July. They did games for everyone like sack races and egg tosses ect. And they handed out prizes like a wooden nickel. And you could take the wooden nickel to the saloon. And get a Rootbeer or some other drink. They also have a great picnic area to have a picnic. If you are ever in the area you really should go and see it.
Great place for history buffs and anyone who wants to stretch their legs. This park gives canon displays with detailed facts of how it was used. I would recommend.
Great history, living history. Feel for the past and the west.
Great place. Wonderfully restored buildings. Very child friendly. You can go in all the buildings but the interior rooms are all closed off by Plexiglas so that you can see everything, but children can't get into anything. From the size of the parking lot, it must get very crowded at certain times of year. We were the only ones there today (Easter Sunday).
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The fort is well preserved and presented. An historic treasure well worth visiting.
Ways exciting to visit this place. Interesting history.
We had a great time tonight. We loved seeing the bats and the stars!
Very well done history museum.
Excellent place to visit with the family!
Stopped by here to witness the total solar eclipse on 8/21/17. The park was within the path of totality. The park was very well prepared for the crowds that flocked to this area to view this event. Parking was well organized and viewing areas clearly designated. The exhibits, ruins and restored area are well worth the visit to get a glimpse of earlier days in Wyoming on the Oregon Trail. I spent an easy two hours exploring the park once the eclipse had passed. Staff is well versed about the park and very attentive to patrons! An easy drive from I-25 just north of Wheatland!
Had no idea this place existed. Very glad we "accidentally stumbled" on it. It was late so the visitor center was closed but the park ranger was very helpful and informative. 2-3 hours is needed to fully explore this hidden gem. You will not be disappointed!
Great place operated by the National Park Service. The Visitor Center has a movie presentation that details the history of the area and the Fort from its original days as a fur trading post, through its several names and physical layouts as a military outpost, until it's final form as exists today. The history presented includes how the relationship between the Army and the Native Americans changed under the pressure of the increasing waves of settlers flooding the area: battles began occurring and treaties were made and broken multiple times. The Visitor Center has a large gift shop, and includes a large supply of books available for purchase on the settling of the West, Native Americans, military history, etc. The physical exhibits then build upon the information begun by the movie, including providing a picture of the the daily lives of settlers passing through on the area on their way West through excerpts from letters home that were written by actual settlers. Artifacts, like a tipi, also show the life of Native Americans. A large room in the barracks building has enlargements of the many actual treaties that were written, then broken, by the US Government, and include how some of the provisions in the treaties have been used in present day lawsuits by Native Americans. Walking out into the grounds of the Fort you will find restored buildings from the original mid 1800s Fort. The two story barracks is furnished with rows of beds, clothing, rifles, etc as if you were viewing an operation military base of that era. Other buildings are furnished to reflect their original purpose as storehouses/ quartermaster office, bachelor officer's quarters, family residences of command personnel, etc. Foundations of buildings that didn't survive the years after the Army's closing of the Fort still exist, and photographs detail the preservation efforts of those buildings that did survive. The Fort area includes a picnic grounds for visitors. Follow-up a visit to the Fort with a visit to the site of the Oregon Trail wagon wheel ruts in the nearby town of Guernsey, Wyoming to get a sense of what the settlers experienced and saw as they passed through the area.
So many of these treasured state historic sites get overlooked for bigger national parks during the cross-country tours of natives and tourists alike, but I highly encourage anyone traveling nearby to make an afternoon stop by Fort Laramie. These small monuments and historical areas give context and meaning to so much of America's history that it is always rewarding to visit, even if it is brief.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff
So fun to see the original buildings and see the sleeping quarters.
Amazing Christmas performances! Santa was there and the kids loved it.
Ft. Laramie was a remote site in a desolate location where Soldiers struggled to live , survive, and try to bring and maintain peace in a violent evironment and turbulent period of history. The site serves as a national monument to all the …
Authentic old Western fort. Reenactments, restored buildings, and very knowledgeable rangers. This is a must see. Planned staying about two hours but spent most of the day. If you love history this is the place.
I liked the artifacts that they had on display. Recomend this place to all that like history
Very helpful staff
Lots of history here...happy to see some of the buildings have been restored and furnished with period pieces. Nice gentle walk around, very knowledgeable park ranger at the Visitor Center desk. Lots of water fountains around the park...but only "sweet" drinks available at the little "saloon" (sarsaparilla, root beer, etc...wanted tea or water!). Great stop on a fascinating trip along the Oregon Trail. Very well stocked book store at the visitor center...wanted to buy every book! Fascinating true stories, biographies and historical reference books.
What an awesome historic place. This history of this fort is an unbelievable story. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful
Off the beaten path and totally worth the trip! You really get a sense of what a bustling hub this was back in the day! Great intro movie in the visitor center (can't miss!) and impeccably maintained buildings and grounds.
Very cool historic site. Wished we had more time to stop and explore all of the buildings!
Fascinating history. Today starts commemoration events for the 150th signing of the Ft. Laramie Treaty of 1868 between U.S. and Lakota/Dakota/Cheyenne Nations.
Great selection of books. Interesting exhibits in the center.
Every western movie came alive here for me. I could see the soldiers, the pioneering families, the Indians. Great historical site, fully recommend it.
Great place to visit for our history.
A very good presentation to past history. Excellent.
I love places like this. History at your fingertips. Authentic buildings with all furniture and trimmings. Barracks for troops, wagons, canons, and even a gattling gun. Free entry. Well worth a visit!
What an incredible part of American history thoughtfully presented and interpreted
Terrific way to spend a day! Just make sure to bring day supplies like water and snacks, they do have water fountains around the property and in the visitors center. Start at the center, read the information on the wall, watch the 18 min video, then grab the audio tour headset from the desk. ($3) For the next hour or longer if you dilly dally like me you will be transported back in time to the days when Ft. Laramie was a bustling trading and military post along the Oregon trail. If you are nearby in Scottsbluff or just passing through to other great Wyo-Braska destinations make this stop for sure.
It's pretty dope
We loved this self-guided tour here. Learned alot. A nice walk too.
Great place to pier into our pioneer history.
Outstanding film presentation
Totally enjoyed my visit to the Ft. Have been there a couple of times and still have not seen everything.
Really neat historic site, worth stopping for sure
Lots of fun and very interactive. The folks at the desk were super friendly too!
Great place to visit. Enjoying learning about the history behind the area. Very nice and friendly park rangers.
Awesome place would recommend for anybody that's interested in history
We had an awesome time checking this place out! Can’t wait to go back
The history is amazing as well as the actual buildings from a bygone era.
Always a fun time
This is a terrific place to stop. So much of western history passed through here. From French fur traders to what some refer to as the beginning of the war with the plains Indians, Fort Laramie was a primary focal point as Americans expanded on the frontier. Knowledgeable, friendly rangers and docents provide valuable insight into life at this remote frontier fort. It is well worth your time to visit this well preserved piece of American history.
They were very accommodating for our event that my grandmother and her family put together for the 1868 treaty signing of Chief Red Cloud
Free Admission. NPS does a great job here, as usual in preservation and historical presentation.
Very interesting place indeed
A definite must see. Enjoy.
The workers were wonderful. The sites are well preserved and history displayed nicely. Go check it out!
Great piece of American history. The site is well preserved and displayed. Worth a stop.
We have visited here two or three times. What a great experience it is. Its learning Wyoming history the fun way.
It is a great trip
Fort Laramie is very impressive! It is much bigger than I expected it to be, and gave a true feeling of the Old West! Also (being a national park) we were able to get stamps for our passport books!
Nice fort with interesting explanations. You can easily spent 2 hours their. Be aware that it it not an old style fort with palisade around the fort.
Great exhibit about the history of the the Fort as well as artifacts and quotes/letters from people on the Oregon Trail. Throughout the park, you can go into a number of the buildings and there are people dressed in period costumes to answer questions. Be sure to bring a few dollars with you to stop in the saloon for a piece of pie and rootbeer or cream soda (as well as a few other non alcoholic beverages)
Absolutely riveting. Can't give enough praise. Gifts fantastic. History breathtaking. The FREE fort tour is so spectacular. Can't wait to get back there!
Very nice visitor center and movie.
The ranger who gave the tour was amazing: animated and very knowledgable about the history of the fort.
Very impressed. Extremely knowledgeable staff. You can spend hours here touring the various restored buildings
Great park. Excellent for families. Expect to spend a couple of hours. It's also a free activity.
This place has a lot of history. Very cold & deserted in February.
There is a very informative film about the origins and history of Fort Laramie, which is great to watch before heading o out and viewing the buildings.
The audio tour was really great and we saw a live cannon demonstration. My daughter learned a lot and so did I!
The setup was very informative and well laid out. The rangers however were very unenthusiastic about their subject and looked board and like they couldn't wait for the day to be over.
Great place to visit. Lots of souvineers and great stuff.
You simply have to see this amazing piece of American history. There are many original buildings to tour. FREE admission!
Nice historical site with tons of interpretive exhibits beautifully situated on the North Platte River.
A lot of history here. Large grounds, many buildings are restored. Worth the trip.
Love the history
A very interesting site to learn about a portion of American history
Informative Rangers and nice selection of books.
I feel very FORTunate for the opportunity to visit this historical site!
Such a neat site, wish we had more time here. We will be back!
Very good information. The grounds of the fort in nice conditions.
This was a wonderful step back in history. Informative and interesting insight into what life was like as our nation expanded westward. The combination of refurbished buildings and foundation ruins provided a true picture of what the fort was like in its prime. The audio tour is very good at bringing the place to life. The staff are also very well informed and love to answer questions regarding this historical site.
We loved visiting Fort Laramie. We arrived before the Visitor Center opened, but a maintenance ranger was very helpful and got us started exploring. My daughter loved the Junior Ranger program, which was really cool in that it encouraged Junior Rangers to explore both Fort Laramie and nearby Guernsey State Park, picking up two Junior Ranger badges and a collectible coin as well. Definitely worth exploring while on a road trip across Wyoming.
It's a great history experience. The buildings and the grounds are well kept. Their visitor center has a fantastic selection of books.
This is a place to visit if you love history.
Well maintained historic site. Clean, good instructional materials throughout. Very worthwhile experience.
