You must have seen that it reaches an feddbacks average is basically the top, and it's founded on a very high number of opinions, so we may be pretty sure that the score is quite credible. If many people have bothered to value when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give evaluations when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Tourist Attraction is included in the category of National park.
This is a beautiful park. The tower is awe inspiring. The pathways are well kept, the area is clean. There are really good displays with historical information and pictures. The gift shop is small but has a nice selection. Well worth the drive!
What an amazing place! Calm, peaceful, a bit surreal. No other structures near it so it really stands out. The walking trail around the tower has great views and it's an easy walk for all ages. Great place to meditate and soak up the vibes which are strong here. It can be climbed if you have the skills. Really cool place to visit and highly recommend the annual National Parks Pass.
SUPER MEGA AWESOME! I've never felt so drawn to a giant rock before! I pretty much threw on my hiking boots, loaded up 4 bottles of water, packed my pepper spray (for wildlife! -you never know!) Then I abandoned my mother in law and two kids to hike around it. The trail was hilly in some spots but paved the entire way. Spectacular views towards and outwards away from the tower. As I speed hiked around, I saw climbers, and deer. No rattlesnakes. Although the environment was perfect habitat. Coming off the trail, parking lot was even MORE full of STURGIS goers- also doing a bit of sightseeing. It was hot and dry. I emptied 3 water bottles, and the kids enjoyed the mister that was set up. Also, ranger station and parking lot had many choices for restrooms.
It was a wonderful ride on the motorcycles with pull offs to safely get pictures. The park ranger at the monument was knowledgeable and offered to take group photos in front of the monument. Everything was well maintained despite diminishing funding. Please let your elected officials know we need to preserve these areas.
This is a must go if you're in the area!! It was an amazing sight to see and loved the time we spent there. - It's $25 to get in unless you have one of their passes, if you're active duty you can get a free park pass that will get you in all the National Parks for free. It last a year and will have to show you're military ID when using it. Ask the Ranger at the entrance gate for one. - There are two trails to take, one around the base of the tower that takes about 30 minutes to an hour that is paved and the second one that is outside the base of the tower trail that is not paved and takes about 2 hours. - They have a small but nice store that has a good variety of items to buy. - Inside the building that houses the store is a room that gives some information about the park. This is where the stamp for the National Park Passport book is located - There is parking for cars and travel trailers/RV. It does get tight so the earlier you get there the better chance you have getting a spot. There is a loop for you to turn around if you have a trailer. - They do have restrooms and water fountains. No food is available due to the wildlife. - There are restaurants and shops before you enter the park. - You can climb the tower but they ask for you to voluntarily not climb during the month of June due to the Native American spiritual significants during that month. - They do give tours at certain times so be sure to check on their times. - Be sure to keep trash off the ground, there is a lot of wildlife there that don't need the litter. If you see some, pick it up and trash it in the can. It also helps the Rangers that work there. If you can go see this place, do it!!
A must place to visit. This was my second time there and what a beautiful park. I suggest walking the trail around the tower. It can get busy so the earlier you get there the better.
More impressive than I anticipated. Very nice paved walking trail. I loved the see the native American prayer offerings. Remember this is a sacred Native American site and treat it respectfully.
This is an amazing place. There are so many wonderful Indian legends that add to the mastic and natural beauty of this natural wonder. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Take your walking shoes and camera, there so many photo opportunities.
Long line to get in on the Saturday we went. It was also very hot out so make sure on hot days to have your drinks with you - we had ours and I was the lucky one to carry it all in the backpack. We saw a deer while hiking and also talked …
It was so beautiful out here. It was an interesting place not o far from home. Had a chance to walk around the tower. Never saw anything like it
This was pretty amazing! Loved it! The small museum was neat too with stories educating you on the area and mountain.
Nature really can amaze!!! We took the 1.3 mile hike around the trail!!!! Beautiful!!! The trail is paved and well maintained. Highly recommend you pack in some water! Nothing along the trail and no beverages are available at the visitors center.
A must see. You can climb on the fallen boulders and watch the good climbers scale the tower. The walk around it is a little long for some people, just FYI. And the prairie dogs on the way in are fun to watch.
How can I describe this peaceful place on earth? This place had a very strong spiritual presence to it. I felt like I could just be so relaxed and comfortable and happy and safe being there. It's a very hard thing to explain. I highly …
A highlight of our trip to South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming! If you are in the Rapid City area this monument is a must see! Awesome 1.3 mile trail that you can take around the monument with totally different views. Saw many climbers scaling the monument while we were there and that is a spectacle in itself. Don't miss this awesome place!
This place is amazing! Such an interesting landmark. You can see the monument from several miles away and the scenery around the tower is breathtaking!
How does a huge rock just shoot you out of the ground like that?? Amazing site, and you can climb it if you dare. Just another amazing site in our great country.
This place is really cool. We enjoyed the walk around the base of the formation. Fun and interesting to watch people climbing the tower. Lots of prairie dogs on the road up - really cute. We would have loved to see porcupine but no luck today! Restrooms were really clean and the visitor centre was informative.
An amazing place. If your a climber, you probably already love it. Native Americans find this as a place of worship and its got two hiking trails around it.
My very favorite natural attraction in the United States. Wonderful hike. Best rangers in the National Park system ... without exception.
Seeing the Devil's tower is an incredible experience. Driving up to the monument you can take a trail all around the tower to see all sides of it. Truly a beautiful place. However, it's rather expensive to enter the park, 25-35 dollars I forget exactly how much it was.
The monument and park is small but beautiful. The park is great for a quick stop and short hikes. We mountain climbed as guided by Devil's Tower Lodge (a separate non-park company). It's beautiful from up on the mountain. Watch out for wildlife, both the cute prarie dogs and chilling rattlers (we saw both).
Excellent location. The 1.3 mile hike was great. Great photo opportunities. When we visited it was during a religious time so there were prayer cloths and bundles. People were asked to stay on the trail out of respect. Also falcons were nesting at the time, so there was an abundance of falcons flying around the top of the tower
Amazing veiws, and very knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately we didn't have as much time as I would have liked there. We will definitely be going back!
Unbelievable ! Had no idea how interesting this rock is in person. Everyone should visit this surprisingly colorful rock. The Indian rituals are still being performed and are not viewed by us. The history of it is also intriguing.
This is one of my favorite NPS Units. The hike around Bear Lodge is fairly easy, and entirely on a paved walking path. There are a number of scenic points along the trail with historic information, and the monument itself is picturesque from every angle. A must see day trip if you're in the area. More than with the detour if your visiting Badlands or Rushmore. Do this before Crazy Horse for sure.
We did the shorter hike around the tower, taking pictures as we went. There are so many beautiful views! We went late in the day and got to see the setting sun hitting the tower...wow! So worth the trip!
I wanted to go since I saw the film Close Encounters as a kid. It truly is beautiful and unique, though probably only worth a day trip. Drive carefully for the sake of the ground hogs. Don't feed them. If you want them to come close, merely sit still. They are curious, gentle critters and will approach you.
The first National Monument every created did not disappoint. Truly a magnificent monolith that simply juts toward the sky in what seems like the middle of nowhere. There's a fantastic hike around the base with spectacular views of the tower as well as surrounding valley. If you're brave enough to want to climb this structure, you'll need a permit. Very worth the drive.
Everything seems fairly normal as you’re driving through the hills… and then you come around a curve and off in the distance you see this incredible monolith rising from the valley floor! It only becomes more incredible the closer you get to it. And finally you’re there at the base and it towers over you for what seems forever towards the sky. The hike around the base is fairly flat… but offers great views of the Tower from all sides. And if you’re so inclined… there are plenty of places to scramble up the boulders, dirt and rocks around the base of the tower to get even closer. Photo opportunities abound. The chance to see this first national monument is not one that should be missed!
Nice, small monument. A few small hikes and limited parking. I enjoyed the visitors center and the views. What a magnificent formation. I also got to see rock climbers ascending the tower which was a highlight of the trip; look out for them!
We stayed in the park camp ground for 2 nights and had a beautiful view of the tower. The camp ground was really nice and clean. It does not have any services any body can boondock for a few days. We really enjoyed it!! The park staff were very friendly and helpful. They don't take reservations it's first come first serve. 10 dollars a night with senior pass. 20 with out. It's truly worth it.
A real wonder of geology. Worth visiting. Suggest staying at the KOA in the foothills and watching the close encounters of the third kind with it in the background. But when visiting make sure to walk all the way around the tower. Gotta go there once in your life.
O' you haven't been? This place isn't for everyone. If you hate bugs and walking, maybe watch some more Netflix. If you are looking for an outdoor experience that will make your soul feel something, this is a good place to start.
Awesome Monument to see. Had a special place to unhook your RV and be able to drive the monument. Nice hike all the way around it. Really enjoyed it!
First monuments park in the country.. you can see the tower from miles way.. lost of history.. truly amazing how the tower standing.. best place for climbing.. restaurant are near for lunch...
Love! Go early to get parking. I would recommend walking around the tower. It is easy and doesn't take long. Maybe 1 hour with kids and out of shape peeps. Lots of places to stop and rest and shade.
An amazing site to see. Be prepared to drop your trailer at the parking lot at the bottom of the park(or have a large RV). The lot is decent sized and pull thru. Parking is tight at the top.
It's a must see... I am so thankful to have seen this in person. I wish there was a climb class and actual climbs scheduled. It's just amazing. The trail that goes around it provides a very pleasant 360 view of the Monument. Unreal!!!
Plan to spend some time taking in the magic of this monument. Walk the trail, take your time. Climb the boulder field. If you are in to rock climbing this looked like it would be in the top 5 on the bucket list of climbs. The park is open 24/7 for all to enjoy. The only sad part was no pets allowed.
Absolutely Beautiful!! Was enjoyed by all ages of the family! Always a great way to spend the day...picnic lunch, nice walk on the trail around the monument and get to see and learn historic facts!
Absolutely breathtaking! You can see it from pretty far away but it's worth the drive to get right up next to it. A short path will lead you to get closer if you want. There is actually a very sacred and profound feeling about the place that was unexpected but adds to the experience.
Pretty interesting to see up close! The history and culture of the American Indians pertaining to this monument is also very interesting. There is a trail that wraps around the tower, which gets you right up to it. I would definitely recommend a visit, as seeing it up close is way different than seeing it from a distance.
Definitely worth a stop. The trail around the tower was moderate to easy. A trailer drop lot is provided allowing us to make this stop as a waypoint during the day.
What an amazing place. The scenery is breathtaking. Nice easy hike around the tower so all can see. 1st 100ft is the worst. Once in a lifetime experience
Beautiful views. Took the 1.3 mile walking loop around it. I wish I would only have only gone to see the valley view and turned back in the hot August sun. Nothing new by going the whole way around. Fully paved, so not too bad for people with limitations. Steep in some sections, but multiple shady benches. Cool to hear about the prayer cloths tied to trees by local tribes.
A very beautiful, majestic and awe inspiring sight to see. Most people will have seen the Devils Tower in sci-fi movies Close Encounters of The Third Kind and also Paul. It was great to eventually see it in real life for the first time. I tried to time our arrival so that the light was just right to capture the contours of it to show more detail. It is way bigger than it seems when you first see it. Watching the Prairie Dogs in the meadow, on our way out, in the late afternoon sunshine was a great addition to our visit to Devils Tower.
The whole park is stunning. Devil's Tower, itself, looks like a giant petrified tree stump. When I looked at it, like it had been a tree at one time, it makes the whole place seem other worldly. Highly recommend.
I thought it was nicely kept up, informative staff and it looks AWESOME up close. There are different levels of trails, the easiest being paved.
We enjoyed the 1.3 mile hike around the base. The trail was paved, had plenty of benches for setting along the way. The walk through the bolder field was interesting. Great photo opportunities.
One of the coolest natural monuments I've ever seen. Beautiful and rather easy hike. Park rangers were very helpful and it made a difference how interactive they were. If you are coming from Rushmore, it was really cool to take Deerfield road, through the black hills. Google will not take you that way, but it is a cool drive.
Unbelievable! The walk around the tower was interesting, paved trails. Those with bad knees or walking issues can do it ...but do it at your speed. There are benches along the route to sit down. Fun times!
Beautiful views and great natural scenery. Traveled with the husband and kids out here and we were all really impressed! The kids even got to see a climber near the top of Devil's Tower on the date we visited.
WOW!!!! Truly one of our NATURAL TREASURES. So very thankful that our Government had the wisdom to make this a National Park. Looks out of this world. Wonderful visitors center/ museum! HIGHY RECOMMEND! The way the road spirals around Devils Tower is AMAZING!
We absolutely love this in the scenery. Beautiful photo opportunities in a great trail to walk. Recommended if you do the penny press to have that stuff before going to the top. And they do not have an ATM at the local gift shop by devils tower. Everything else was absolute wonderful but cash recommended to be on hand.
Truly a spectacular sight! You can take a path right up to and into the boulder field at the base. Those that are more adventurous can register to climb the tower. The path is delightfully winding and just a little steep. I was still able to hobble up it with my swollen and sore ankle. So worth the effort to walk through the boulders and gaze up at the rock columns composing Devil's Tower. The visitor center is small but very nice with lovely gifts and of course a station to stamp your National Park and Monuments Passport.
Impressive. I did not realize how huge it is until I was right there and it really is a remarkable natural structure. As we were there around the time of the Sturgis Rally traffic was very heavy and the wait to get into the park was long. But the Ranger were nice and handled parking well. It was frustrating that the bathrooms were closed, but port-a-potties had been set up.
Great hike. Sadly cannot take pets. Small visitor center/shop but very polite face paced staff! Potable water on site!
most photos feature the tower itself which is utterly striking. but little photographic tribute is paid to some of the parks less famed beauty. we started at the visitor’s center and hiked a three-ish mile loop — we would have done the 5.6 …
5 stars and 3 thumbs up. Scenic 1.3 mile hike around the base is totally worth it. We couldn't believe there were people climbing (technical) it!
A cool evening. A nice drive into the park with very little traffic around 7:30 pm. Drove to the visitors center where there was ample parking at this hour. Despite the nesting falcons causing some closure for climbing, there were several people enjoying the leisurely hike on a paved path (no pets allowed, FYI) around the tower. Saw several mule deer in the drive back. The view on the return was incredible - watching the sun set around the tower and other rocks/hills was breath-taking. Definitely worth the visit!
Very cool place to check out. The tower is unlike anything I have seen before. The vibes are very similar to those I felt at Uluru. This site is also sacred to the native people. You can feel the peacefulness and get a good view of the countryside. Wildlife like prairie dogs, birds, and snakes can be seen. Amazing how mother nature can create such unique things.
One of my favorites. Awesome sight. Some nice shops before the pay entrance. You can find "Close Encounters" shirts, etc., among other things, and some good ice cream...
This is definitely a must see in ones lifetime, one worthy of a bucket list I must say. It is so amazing to see what Mother Nature can produce in the amazing world. We will definitely be back to register to climb to the top one of these days when my boys are older. This place has an unbelievable soothing feel when you visit, you can't pass on an opportunity to see this amazing wonder of the world.
Excellent way to introduce kids to national parks/monuments. As this was the first monument established by Theodore Roosevelt. Easy paved hike to do for families although it is a bit longer. We came in the late afternoon and had plenty of time for wandering around and looked incredible at that time of day. Would suggest coming later so you can see it during the night as well, as the stars frame it beautifully as long as it's a clear night. Whether for 15 min or a day, Devils Tower is definitely worth a detour to see for families or on the way to sturgis.
This was just one of many stops on a bike trip to the west coast. Really, it's just a lone rock sticking out of the ground. It's mystery probably lies in the connection the "Close Encounters" movie. It made for a great bike stop, photo's and fun, though. Interesting: On the road into the site, you pass a huge prairie dog colony. Cute little guys!
Wow, what a great surprise of a National Monument. Stayed at the KOA outside the park with quick access to the park. If you like an easy hike this is a great place to spend a couple of days.
This place is so worth the drive from the interstate. Don't let this park slip by on your journeys. Magical, mysterious, sacred and awe inspiring. Well worth the drive.
I took the Red Beds Trail to the Joyner Ridge loop and then finished out the Red Beds loop. It took around 4 hours and a lot of water. I also did a portion of the Tower Trail to get ine last look. The Tower is absolutely stunning, and the surrounding area is majestic. This is one of the best nature hikes I've ever taken. I just wished I wore longer socks, as the connector between the two loops was very overgrown. I had to wait in a long line of cars to get in. I think it was a 20 min wait. The rangers at the info desk were super friendly and helpful. They made the experience even better. If you ever get the opportunity, please see this amazing structure!
This is definitely worth one full day. They have a very easy trail that goes around the base of Devils Tower that is paved with asphalt. The KOA outside of Devils Tower has some great views , not a bad little campground but a little bit pricey. $60 a night , but location, location, location.
To be honest, this was much more interesting than I had originally expected. The majestic size and the access all around on multiple trails made this a great place to exercise, enjoy nature, and find wonder. The kids loved the 1.3 mile walk around and I had plenty of opportunities to take in breathtaking views (and photos).
Beautiful scenery! We took our 3 young boys (youngest age 4) up to view Devil's Tower and walked the path going all the way around the tower. We got here about 8:30pm and walked pretty quick since it was getting dark. It took about an hour to go all the way around with really no stopping and some LIGHT jogging. Amazing to see in person, wish we had more time to really take in the information about the area and more of the view.
Super impressive. We went after closing and you can drive through the gate and park at visitors center. Then can walk around the base of tower on a nice blacktop walkway. Really worth it being so close to tower.
Just a beautiful work of nature! It was an easy hike around the tower with tons of wildlife and beautiful views. Spiritually a wonder, and the prayer cloths and gifts to spirits helped remember past generations who hold the site in high regard. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent there!!
So I come out every year for Sturgis to go ride this is one place I had not been to yet I personally was not all that impressed it was cool but I was more in it for the writing and the ride there was just okay I think it was like 15 or $20 …
This place is beautiful. A must to walk all around the base. The information displays and views are worth it. We also watched some climbers. We made the full circle and a few yards past the halfway point we encountered a couple of wild turkeys.
A natural wonder to be seen in person. The native American legend about the tower is very interesting also so you need to go find out what it is!
One of my favorites! Devil's Tower is unique, stunning and awe inspiring. The Tower Trail is a must do, 1.8 miles around the base, you'll be up close to the Tower. Highly recommended, the scenery getting there is also cool.
Way cooler in person! We took the hike around the tower which I highly recommend because it's beautiful! Paved the whole way, but wear sturdy shoes because it's up and down a lot. Active kids could make it around fine, and you don't have to be in super great shape either. There are benches to rest on about each 1/4 of the way. The visitors center is small, but has some cool info. Get there as early as you can for better parking, but there is RV parking too. Worth a visit!
Got a great campsite (B20) and paid for six nights. Then folks with TWO generators running constantly for TWO days moved into B21. Ugh. Had my stereo full volume when in camp and mostly stayed out hiking around the magnificent tower. Hosts tried and neighbors respected 8pm to 8am quiet hours. Spotless campsites and facilities, friendly and knowledgeable hosts, beautiful scenery and wildlife. Loved being there.
Pretty cool. My kids love climbing the rocks out in front of tower. Parking young get tricky if you are in a large RV but it was doable.
For someone who loves learning and abnormal things, this place is a must visit location! Devil's Tower is full of history and legends. It is sacred for some, and a wonder for others. There are three common hikes, one of which is fully paved. The visitor center is very informative and the staff was extremely nice and gave us lots of information about hikes. The bathrooms were nice. I would definitely recommend coming here if you love viewing extraordinary things at a nice, very beautiful location!
Beautiful setting for this giant rock. Trails abound and the Visitor Center has great information. Ranger talks every evening at the amphitheatre near the Belle Fouche River campground. Special guest speakers on the weekends, too, plus some astronomy programs. Site of our first National Monument has something for everyone. Enjoy!
We had a great time hiking around the base. Kids scrambled on the rocks after consulting with a ranger about where they could legally go. We lucked out weather wise cool afternoon after a light rain shower. Blue partly cloudy skies for sunset.
It's beautiful ...the drive to it was breathtaking and the scenery changes around every curve. You can see the tower miles away but you can't fully experience the grandeur until you get closer.
Very cool, like most attractions it is so much cooler in person. Glad we went about 30 minutes out of our way to see. Great views, even from car. If you're a Close Encounters fan this is a must experience!
Spectacular we love going here and will return every year. Great place to ride your. Motorcycle or camp. Plenty of rattlesnakes also
Just love it here! The rangers and staff are all very friendly and helpful. The trails around the base are lovely walks. The gift shop is small, but has a sufficient variety of memorabilia and gifts to meet nearly everyone's needs. None of the campsites have electricity, and generators may be on from 8am to 8pm. The restrooms are extremely clean, with potable water, and there are water spigots spaced regularly throughout the campground. There is no dump station.
Devils tower is a pretty cool glitch in mother earth. The parks view point is really awesome close to sunset, which also seems to be the time when all the prairie dogs come out to talk to each other. The park wasn't busy and not much walking is required.
Visited on a Wednesday at the end of July, and it was a long line up of vehicles at the entrance gate around 12:30pm. Took around 40 mins to enter. There were also a lot of people getting into fights as cars tried to skip the queue by cutting in on the right lane. I did both the Tower Trail and Red Beds Trail. The Tower trail is a short, easy hike and gets you up close to the Devils Tower, which means you'll only get photos looking up at the tower. There's also a lot of people doing the trail. The Red Beds Trail is a much longer trail that takes you further outside of the tower. Lot's of good shots as you get further from the tower, and some nice scenery along the way. Just keep in mind that the trail is unpaved and there's lots of tall grass and hills/dips to navigate through. There was also no one else doing the trail and it was really nice to get away from the crowds (literally saw no one the entire hike). If you're looking to get a really nice shot of the Devil's Tower, there's an unpaved road just off to the right of the main visitor area, You'll need to drive for a bit until you get to a somewhat unpaved parking area (the road is narrow and you won't be able to park on the side of it while cars are driving by). My photo shows the exact view you'll capture. Tip: Arrive early (before 11:30am) or later in the afternoon (after 4pm) to avoid the vehicle traffic at the main entrance and crowds. Also, fill up your gas tank along the way as there were no gas stations on US-14 or US-24 until you hit the town of Sundown.
This is a hidden gem. We stayed at the RV Park and spent the day hiking around the tower. One to two days should be plenty to hike every trail and see everything here. It's an amazing formation and very well kept. We enjoyed our time there. It's a little bit out of the way, but I'm glad we went.
First sight of Devil's Tower from miles away will make you realize you are in a very special place. I recommend the 1.2 mile paved path around the tower, which will give you some up-close views as well as telescope viewing areas to see climbers. For the more hearty hiker, I highly recommend the 2.8 loop around (I think clockwise is the better way to go). This is unpaved and will take you through diverse terrain (forest, red rock, open prairie) and will give you some great views that not everyone gets a chance to see.
Devils Tower was one of my personal favorites on our trip to Wyoming. My favorite thing was hiking on the trail around the base. We were there late in the day and it was so peaceful. I enjoyed the quiet so deep you could simply listen to the wind blow. Beautiful place I highly recommend visiting.
Devils Tower was truly amazing! This was my first time here and it was completely worth it! There was a little wait at the front gate to the park, but that is to be expected in August. If you are military, you can get your free Military National Park pass there. There is a beautiful trail that wraps all the way around Devils Tower, please take the time to walk it. Parking wasn't an issue even though it was busy. I definitely recommend going there and taking a lot of pictures! A+
I got what I expected, a place that needs to be visited at least once in a lifetime. Rangers were knowledgeable and helpful. Not that far off of the interstate to question if you should see it or not. Go see it. Campgrounds are clean and easily accessible.
Awesomely huge rock formation in the middle of nowhere! You can walk around the whole thing, it’s about 2 miles around. Beautiful view and lots of prairie dogs when you first drive in. There’s a couple shops just outside the entrance and a small playground for kids.
Rising out of the ground as though pulled towards the heavens by mother nature herself, Devils Tower National Monument is a must see for anyone who wished to see the incredible. A well maintained series of roads, trails, and service buildings all help make experiencing this wonder easier while providing helpful and interesting information about the tower and surrounding area. Visiting here will be a memorable experience impossible to forget.
This was a super neat place. We got a chance to go to the visitor center (very small), walk around the base by the boulder field, and head up the dirt path as an overlook. We were really surprised with how large and memorising it was. We were disappointed by not being able to take the dogs on any of the trails however. Overall, it was a really neat stop!
Finally made it here on our way to Yellowstone. So glad we stopped, what an amazing creation. Easy to walk up and see it. The more adventurous can climb up to the top!
Happened to be in South Dakota. My schedule opened up & I was able to take advantage of a "free pass day". Happy Birthday NPS! Devils Tower is a marvel geologically & culturally. I hiked the Tower Trail and Red Beds Trail. Totally different perspectives and both well worth it.
Today is one of most likely,& very unusual National parks/Monument I ever seen!!! I Always wanted to see these place since Steven Spielberg's encounters of the third kind!! Great place, but small National Monument!! Come on out to see these tower of rock middle of nowhere in south east corner of WYOMING!
What a great trip. On the way to Yellowstone, we stopped here and drove up to the area where you can take a trail around the structure. Hot day, so be sure you have water and maybe snacks. Not a long hike but it does involve walking around and check out the area. We stopped at the pictured bar/grill log cabin place with cool views as show in the attached pictures. There were people claiming the rocks as you can also see in some of the pics. I don’t want to spoil things so look up the history of the devils tower and the bear. Interesting history involved here. So if your near the badlands, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone or just hanging out in Wyoming, stop in and see what this place is all about. Very cool visit and worth the time. Well kept and neat, pleanty of parking up near the walk trails.
Wow. Just WOW! I never expected to like this place so much. It was kind of just a box to tick, and something to see for my kids, but we ended up really wishing we'd booked a campsite. It's such a beautiful area, and the tower itself is awe-inspiring. Def worth more than a drive-through. We'll be going back.
You must take the hike around the base to really appreciate the structure and the geology. The rocks which have fallen off as columns are as impressive as what is left still standing. They are as large as city buses! Back side is prettier than the front where the visitor center is.
During the Stugis rally, they have parking down to a science! Wow are they good!! Everyone is friendly and ready to answer your questions. We go back every year! Merchandise changes so there is always something new to pick up! The path around is doable in biker boots, tennis shoes would be better.
Ever since I've seen 'Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, I've wanted to visit this landmark. Rising far higher from the ground than I anticipated, this beautiful structure is imposing without being intimidating. It's geometric fractures are beautiful, and the hike around its base provides some very informational details and history.
Oh you must see it! One of my favorites. Breathtaking in its own right. I will definitely come back again.
Spectacular! Awesome! The trail is very easy to navigate. Was disappointed though as the day of my visit the alien ship was not there. Must only come on Saturdays... :(
We enjoyed the stunning rock formation and the easy hike around it. The prairie dog villages near the entrance were fun to see as well.
A very cool park. Devils Tower is an amazing geological structure. There are several hiking trails which are linked together, so you can spend as little as an hour or most of the day hiking in the area. There are Ranger led talks and programs scheduled throughout the day as well. We stayed in Belle Fourche River Campground. The sites (all are first come first served, no reservations) are nicely set up, and can accommodate anything from tents to fairly large RVs. Water is available throughout the campground, but there are no hookups in the sites. There is no dump station in the park either. The restrooms (flush toilets, cold water sinks) are basic, but very clean. There is a dish washing station available as well. Support your State and National Parks.
Great. Kids loved. Good trails. Fun experience. Glad we took the time to go there.
Sacred Native American site with fascinating geological history. Nice 1.3 mile walk around the base with magnificent views. SO glad we went and didn't just view it from the road. Having the Senior National Park Pass saves a lot of $$$ as well.
So much fun. Quite a drive to get here but nice trails and beautiful views made it worth the trip. If you're visiting the Black Hills, I would say it's worth the drive. N
The trail was awesome. Junior ranger challenge was cool. Oh and the tower was epic! Plus it was free due to being national park day!
It was awesome to see this beautiful and unusual natural beauty in person. It was well worth the drive. It has lots of info and plenty of parking close by. There are trails all the way around it. Definitely stop by and touch a piece of history.
Who drove that took pictures when is the tourist attractions store. Please skip the drive through the gate. Figured we have seen enough. it's amazing how they think everything is formed is already figured out on the Earth but they don't really have the answers for this formation it could have been volcanic he could have been from glacier cuts and what's left of the hard Rock. Well I wouldn't spend a lot of time there but if you happen to be driving down a road closed by or one to make the tour of the circle the Badlands stop and see this Natural amazement.
Very cool! 1st National Monument. Handicap accessible. Nice restrooms. The gift shop on the left of the entrance was a bit pricey, but had a lot of cool stuff. If you have seen Close Encounters you'll definitely want to make the trip out here.
Stunning and unique. Definitely worth seeing. We visited early in the morning and did the short loop around the tower. Enjoyed the peaceful quiet and stunning views of the tower from the path.
I think it is a neat place with several trails to take. The photos you can take of the tower and surrounding landscapes are breathtaking.
Just a really cool formation. Good roads to site. No traffic to speak of until you get to pay station. Yes it cost to get closer then the Trading Post.
Truly amazing piece of America. Surrounding area is beautiful and then this astounding monolith dominates the landscape and draws you into its other worldly presence. It will definitely remind you of how magnificent nature can be.
Very nice place to tour and and learn more about it by actually seeing it with your own eyes. Have seen it in documentaries but seeing up front is even better. They have a couple binocular stations for free too.
Majestic rock tower. A couple of hikes that one can do around it. One easy and one that is challenging.
I think the most fascinating thing about the devil's tower is we're not 100% sure on what it is or how it got here. You can stand here and look up at this 867 foot tall stone monument (the first national moment, actually) and try and wrap your mind around it's mystery.
This is an amazing marvel. It has a nice paved trail that goes all the way around it.
All of these monuments are really interesting to see and observe. Liked the nearby campground KOA which allowed us to get in early. Place gets busy fast.
It's in the middle of nowhere, but if you're passing through, you can't NOT go see it. One time I saw this guy get abducted by aliens right next to the monument. That as weird, but still, I recommend visiting at least once.
This place was great. The kids loved it as well. We watched several men and women rock climb up and down the sides. We didn't walk all the way around but the monument only about half way and there were tons of look outs with beautiful views. Would definitely go back.
