REVIEWS OF Taliesin IN Wisconsin

Katelyn Schramke

We ate lunch at the cafe here one day and then came back the next day to take the tour. The lunches were good, I personally tried the grilled cheese and cheese puff and both were very good. The tour is also nice, if you are into Frank Lloyd Wright and architecture - it is worth checking out!

Christina Brokaw

It was an amazing place. A must see for anyone. Had the best time on our 3 month wedding anniversary.

Debra Pederson

My first FLW property visit. Learned a lot and want to see more of his properties.

Linda Probus

A must see American treasure.

William Westman

great window into his life

Elissa Spann

What an amazing place. Our tour guide Andy was incredible. He has so much knowledge and took the time to answer even the simplest of questions. Even if you are not a fan of FLW, this place will make be and help you realize all you can thank him for in your daily life.

The tour of Taliesin was a dream come true for me. Being a student of architecture and avid fan of Frank Lloyd Wright this was one to strike from the old bucket list. My son and I took a two hour tour of the school, house, and, grounds. I have always been impressed by his creative abilities that extended far beyond the borders of architecture. On the tour you will find many examples of his graphic design, furniture, art glass, textiles, and decorative elements in the home and studio. Tours start at the visitor center in the gift shop. You will be shuttle bussed to and from the private property of Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin. The parking lot is free to park in with plenty of parking and handicap accommodations are available. Enjoy your time at Taliesin.

Pricey tour but well worth it!

Antonello Caboni

Fascinating and interesting but not as mind-blowing as I was expecting. The delivery of the tour could’ve been a little more engaging.

Mark Recob

Learned lots here.

Carla Nelson

You have to visit! Wright is pretty well known but his life here is not. It's a bit of a retreat for me even if it was the site of a terrible tragedy. His love for creating beautiful spaces comes through when you tour the house and studio grounds.

Terry ProFi

Taliesin is one of the key stops for anyone with an interest in Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. It is now a World Heritage site and offers a variety of tours during the day. A visit to this property is different than a visit to one of Wright's client properties. Mainly this is due to the fact that Wright used this property as a training center for his school of architecture as well as a chance to test out his new ideas. You can see flaws and attempts at new or unusual ideas, here. As for the tours, the crew is very knowledgeable and do a great job with the property and with taking care of the customer, whether you want a tour or just lunch in the restaurant Wright built. Highly recommended.

Maggie Ley

Fascinating insight into FLW's life and his designs. Well maintained. Excellent docents, well-informed, interesting.

Katherine L.

Well worth the time for the 4 hour tour! The estate is beautiful. Our guide was excellent, giving history of Taliesin & Frank Lloyd Wright's personal life.

Robert Radosevich

This was a really nice tour. The house design was amazing... So much natural light.

David Lavender

An architectural shrine. And like all shrines, it needs lots of TLC. Excellent tours, gift shop and restaurant. Spend the entire day. Try to visit when the gardens are in bloom.

Byron Ferguson

See the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture v. Nature up close and in person. Fascinating, beautiful. Great your guides.

Jennifer Lynn Roeling Brennecka

It is beautiful in ways that words cannot describe. You have to see it for yourself.

Robin B

What a wonderful experience. Thank you to all who keep his visions alive.

There's a 3 roommate option which is super easy and helpful!

Dane Thompson

I really enjoyed the style of design of this house. I did have to duck going through many of the door since Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house to his scale(5"6). I thought there were some interesting concepts that would be fun to implement into a newer home.

Scot Muehlmeier

Can't imagine a tour more than 2hrs! Cool but old. Lovely rolling hills.

Aimee krieg

Beautiful, inviting, amazing, well worth the $ and time. Guide very informative, estate and grounds gorgeous ...beautiful designs throughout by FLW... Must see

Laura Lu Spencer

William Killean

It's Wright. You have to love this place.

Pat Lawlor

This "Shining Brow" shows off FLW's evolving style. The full 4 hour estate tour is very much worth your time and money $$

Jacci Harding

I enjoyed the tour greatly, but I think any Wright enthusiast would. My suggestion however is to book less people however on each tour. I realize people may have to book out in advance, but I would have preferred this than to have been crowded into a lump of 20 others - I drove a long way, and it was very difficult to get pictures of the rooms / structures without the other tour guests being in the photo. I waited until the tour progressed to get a photo, and it was obvious I was annoying the tour guide that I was not keeping up. The tour guides need to give people a chance to take a photo once the room clears. We do not all get to see this every day, and some may never get a chance to come again.

Erin Krajenke

While this is a must see for many FLLW fans, I have to say that it was my least favorite so far. While the house is nice and our guide was fantastic, the 4 hour tour was a bit long. I always opt for the most in-depth/longest tour they offer and the longest I have done in the past was 3 hours which was always a good length, however 4 hours was a bit much. I am sure part of the reason it is so long is that we walked all over the grounds, which I enjoyed, and I think the tour is this long to make sure everyone can handle the walk. But I also felt that we lingered longer than necessary in some areas. I still recommend visiting Taliesin, but maybe not doing the 4 hour tour.

Aninditta Rao

A beautifully preserved estate inside and out. Allows the visitor to marvel at the amazing vision and work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Shirley Drake

It's well worth visiting Frank Lloyd Wright 's home. The tour guide Mikey shared not only the home but also insights to Frank family man.

stephen myrick

nothing compares to the real home in Oak Park first visit was in winter cold of Chicago January snow started quickly falling on arrival and then the magic near Pittsburgh of Falling Water...but his home in Oak Park is where you most feel the tragedy and triumph and family and of course brilliance of this uniquely gifted pain in the ass man.....a legend in his mind and mine.

Barbara Cenalmor

Lynn Bever

Awesome history & views! Must see in this area!

Jean Jones

Because I use a walker, we booked a tour for just the two of us. The guide was really knowledgeable and made sure things were accessable to me. And because there were just two of us, we were able to go several places larger groups were not taken to. Great experience

Anders Mjøs

Great tours and inspiring architecture

Joe Votroubek

A significant piece of architectural and cultural history nestled in rural southwest Wisconsin. I recommend doing a little reading on the history before visiting. There are so many amazing stories about this property and those who inhabited it. A truly beautiful and complex story of one man's vision and those who helped him realize it. Don't forget to visit the surrounding area which includes the nearby Wisconsin River, the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin, as well as the family chapel, Hilltop School, and surrounding properties. From statesmen, to mystics, to Stalin's daughter herself, this property has been visited by many of America's most interesting intellectuals (and pseudo intellectuals). Finally, do yourself a favor and stop in Mineral Point, Wisconsin which has a beautiful downtown and many beautiful buildings. The local cheese is some of the state's finest!

larry schiff

Excellent tour. The more you learn about Frank Lloyd Wright the more you want to learn about one of the most interesting architects ever. Although I thought the tour as interesting as it was, was very pricey.

Michael Seiler

Impressive!

Robert Platt

As an admirer of Wright, I thought I had a sense of his genius. I was wrong. This was not only the most tactile experience of his work but it felt like he was there. Being in his school and home was an event I will carry and treasure. The guide was a joy and most entertaining and knowledgeable. If you see nothing else of Wright's work, you must experience this place.

Blair Woerfel

We had an amazing time visiting the site and taking the full 4hr tour. Completely worth the trip! Margaret was a fantastic tour guide as well!

Cool but spendy

Gregg Thompson

This is a must if you are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright. We did the longer walking tour of the studio, guest houses, barns and of course the main house. Our tour guide was excellent. She was well versed in the place and was able to answer just about every question thrown at her. She was attentive to the group's needs and ensured that people knew when to get water, use the bathrooms, etc. The sites were fascinating. My only complaint is the condition of the properties. They definitely seem to be a challenge to keep maintained. I guess that's par for the course when it comes to a Frank Lloyd Wright property. He wasn't exactly focused on total cost of ownership! I think the preservation society is doing its best to keep things in good shape. All-in-all it was a great experience!

Otto

Amazing Frank Lloyd Wright house

Yiyue Huangfu

It was a great experience visiting Taliesin. The architecture was fabulous and it was a great combination to learn about his very emotional life story associated with this house, both beautiful and sad. The tour guide was doing a great job.

MIKE GRAF

Robert Padgett

Wow!

Alana Wolf

It almost feels wrong to rank Taliesin, but if you know what it is then you also know it's a must-see. Our guide, Scott, was knowledgeable and had a knack for delivering information while strong clear of being overly dry or edu-tainy. All the stars.

Took the deluxe tour. Nicely done, but pricey.

Lawrence Tom

If you like Frank Lloyd Wright stuff, you have to visit the Mother Ship. I took just the House tour and that was perfect for me since I am not a super fan but wanted to see some of his designs. The tour is well laid out and it starts with the waterfall and only gets better. After seeing The House on the Rock and now this, I am wondering why are all the ceiling so low. But again this makes modern homes boring and plain. There are interesting features and details everywhere. My only quibble is the extensive use of modern materials of the time, plywood. Plywood is not a good durable material and doesn't last long and it is easy to see that the preservation society has a lot of work ahead of it. Fun tour and highly recommend setting aside a couple of hours.

Obinna Ebirim

The old building belongs to a renowned architect and is located in the outskirts of Madison. It gives you a feeling of ancient America with some Asian art work

Chris Goodwin

Take the full tour - well worth it.

Lore Lisheron

Gorgeous home of Frank Lloyd Wright in the rolling hills of Spring Green, Wisconsin.

Ed Bailey

Do it!

Michael Garrett

Susan Thering

One of a kind.

Wade Cupkie

So worth it! The two-hour highlights tour was perfect for a Saturday afternoon. The tour guides take you through everything you need to know, but being there to appreciate the sight-lines and textures and spatial fluidity is something unlike any home tour you’ve taken before. There’s history in those buildings and in everything you see. Take the tour, be amazed, become inspired.

Larry Beatty

Great guides

Mark Demmin Sr.

Don't forget Oak Park, IL for his first design studio in his home. I could write loads on his Chicagoland homes and commercial works but that would be just wrong! They are well covered by the internet. I live 30 miles from Oak Park so I've toured and photographed Frank's works well.
