My favorite trail in Baraboo. Gets busy during the summer but absolutely beautiful year round. Trail ends at the waterfall, keep going past the sign. People always complain about getting wet, but if you are careful there are plenty of rocks to cross the stream if it is low.
Has an entrance to a very pretty, hilly, & peaceful part of the Ice Age Trail.
Nice walk...good time in the woods
Fun times! Beautiful area. Nice Hike, clear water. Wear bugspray for mosquitoes cause you are hiking along water and plan on getting your feet wet. All worth it!!
An amazingly beautiful place was just a short hike to get to!
I absolutely love this trail! Super pretty and so fun! I love waking thru the stream and climbing the rocks to get to the waterfall. You almost feel like you aren't in Wisconsin. The canyon you really through is so pretty, I wish pictures could capture it's true beauty
Love this little piece of heaven. Beautiful scenery and the first pair of the trail is good for toddlers. To see the waterfall is a nice challenging hike through water and rocks.
Had a blast here!!!! It's only paved for a bit, so don't wear flip flops, and if you REALLY want to have fun, wear knee-high rubber boots (about $35 at Farm and Fleet) so you can go tromping through the stream at various points. My nine-year-old son had the time of his life exploring the trails, throwing stones, and splashing around in the stream--was glad I thought to bring him a complete change of clothes! Also, don't forget your bug spray--the mosquitos were swarming!
Awesome place to hike and explore. Be ready for bugs and get some solid waterproof shoes if you're going to hike it to the end.
Hidden gem. Nice out and back hike along stream through mini gorge following good trail to start with a little adventure further on. Hiking poles are a big help. Very crowded mid day on weekends. Food opportunity for photos. Only miles from Devil's Lake.
Beautiful park. Nice trail along a small river
Enjoyable walk.
Quiet, crossing river via rocks, I wish I would have bought a walking stick
It was our first time here, we don't live in the area. We loved the hike. It was do-able... not too long or difficult. Wear good hiking shoes, there are some kind of difficult spots, but not too bad. I am out of shape and have a bad back and I did ok.
Beautiful area to hike. No dogs allowed. Challenging due to large rock obstructions and stream crossings. Your feet may get wet!
This little hike is pretty fun for a family. We took our 3 and 5 year olds and they had a blast. Bring rubber boots or sandals so that you and the kids can walk in the water. The trail intersects the stream in several places so there are opportunities to go in and do some exploring. The deepest the stream ever got was maybe 18" with most parts being under 6" deep. There are really some cool features along the trail like cliffs, ravines, and wildflowers. The last 400' or so of the trail are the most difficult (nearly treacherous) and the kids needed help to get over some of the large boulders. The waterfall at the end isn't really that big. Maybe a 7' drop or so. The good part is really the hike through the woods.
A fun, short and adventurous natural area.
This is a truly breathtaking. It is a short hike back to the waterfall but be prepared to cross a creek multiple times on rocks or logs. In the winter, there is a lot of ice that makes the cliff faces especially beautiful. However, the trail becomes extremely slippery and icy. Use caution!!! I prefer this area in the winter because of the ice and quietness of the woods. The trail is relatively flat in the beginning, but you will end up climbing over and under big rocks and up a few sets of rock stairs closer to the waterfall. I would not recommend this trail for people with mobility or strength issues. You will work to get to the waterfall. Everyone should visit this area at least once. It's one of my favorites in the state of Wisconsin!!!
Beautiful! A bit icy at this time of year, but less traveled. In another week or so the trails will probably be ice free.
Great hiking, trail was really cool, but ends being kind of off-roading. Still lots of fun as long as you can climb some large rocks that seem to have fallen in the path and walk on wet rocks to cross across the creek. at the end we found a waterfall!
Loved it so much , we got married there
A really nice short walk, but not as good as it used to be before they put up the fencing earlier this year! It will take only about 15-20 to see both upper and lower portions. It is a gewat place for individuals who have limites ability to walk as the pool and falls is a very short distance. You don't have to complete the hill to see the falls.
Beautiful in winter but bring walking poles and good, non slip shoes! Very icy!
A beautiful hidden paradise, such a magical location. I'm a nature photographer and I took pictures for hours. I could've have taken pictures from sunrise to sunset if I had more time.
I love this spot!!! Grew up going here before the dam flooded. It’s almost more magical now with the way the rocks have fallen and pieces of what used to be stairs are all thrown about. About a 3 mile hike. The perfect location, close to Devil’s Lake!!!
Fun hike with beautiful greenery everywhere.
I really enjoyed the short hike through the beautiful rocks and the streaming water. I recommend a type of hiking shoes you don't mind getting wet, or Chacos the "camp like water shoes" that can walk the distances and the rocks you'll have to climb through.
This is one of the best hikes in Wisconsin. I end up here once a year.
Beauty beyond words. Well maintained and serene.
Beautiful hike. It had rained the night before so it was slick on the rocks and mud. But worth the effort!
Great place. We've hiked Parfrey's Glen numerous times. It's enjoyable walking along the edge of the creek. Definitely not a place to climb. We miss the wooden walkways over the creek that were washed out when the fam at Lake Delton gave way.
While this is a beautiful place, parking is very limited and it is not recommended to go when there are a lot of people there. Avoid going on hot days and in the summer or else you'll be stuck trying to hop rocks with 20 people. You'll be bumper to bumper with people on the trail.
Walking next to a bubbling stream with spring flowers blooming along the path was lovely!
Awesome hidden gem, short hike with a great payoff. Great for the little ones
It is beautiful during the winter! The trail is maintained for a distance and it fairly easy to navigate. You do have to cross the stream (4') once. Once you get to the non-maintained, at your own risk section though, you have to cross the now 10'+ multiple times. Some of the stream is frozen over pretty solid, but you see holes here and there. We did not get to the end this trip because of this. We could not recall how deep the stream is at this point and did not feel safe walking on the ice. This is a place that needs to be experienced in all seasons though, whether you can get to the waterfall or not!
Fun time by all
Lots of fun. Feet will get wet if you want to go all the way to the falls. Rock climbing skills will be tested. All and all, a good nature hike.
Love how natural and fun this old favorite of ours has become! Don't change a thing! Best place on a hot day!
Great place to hike and see some beautiful scenery.
Had an amazing time hiking and climbing through the water and over boulders to get to the top of the trail. What a beautiful part of the state! Created some great memories with our family.
This is a great short hike for any skill level both in the Winter and Summer. At a slow pace it can be hiked in around an hour and a half. If you want to see the small waterfall you will have to adventure past the maintained trail and climb over some rocks. In the Summer plan to hop across rocks and possibly get you shoes wet. In the winter you won't have to hop across as many rocks, but it does get slippery. The water isn't deep if you fall in. Once passed the maintained trail you have to stay within 20 ft of the water and cannot go past the waterfall.
This is a nice sort of hidden park. I usually only camp/hike at Devils Lake State Park but this was a nice find by one of my close friends. You have to follow the water until you reach the waterfall at the end. Also we went in the middle of March while there was still some snow/ice so we had to be pretty careful. Make sure to wear some waterproof shoes.
I was just there over the weekend, my first time and loved it. The hike was so fun and it is just so hard to put the beauty of the trail into words. You have to see it! The trail started off really easy to hike, then it turned into this really adventurous hike walking across small boulders thru the creek. I wish I would have worn water shoes. The waterfall was just beautiful. You will enjoy it.
Great spot to hike at. Not to long but you must go through a small creek and a little rough terrain. We have hiked here for years and love it.
The terrain was wild and a little rugged, but beautiful. Parts of the trail were challenging, but views were worth it.
Day trip from Illinois. Great time had by all! The kids loved hiking through the creek to the 'final destination'.
This place is out of the world awesome! So beautiful! Can't begin to describe how beautiful it is. If you go your feet will get wet so wear something you don't mind getting wet.
Great time to visit with spring ephemerals emerging. Just please remember to stay along designated paths to help reduce erosion and preserve the area for generations to come.
Great short hike with lots of river crossings. If you have good balance you can do this without getting your feet wet, even in the spring! The waterfall at the end isn’t as cool as the steep “canyon” walls
Great place to hike along the river small waterfall at the end. Used to be a lot less trafficked but now seems to have a lot of folks going to it.
Beautiful area ruff and rocky
Beautiful hike along a stream that leads to a waterfall. Trail does end before you get to falls, but if you are sure-footed, it's easy enough to go the rest of the way. Get there between8:30-9:30am,after that the small parking lot fills up and it gets busy.
Beautiful hike and crick that runs through it
Beautiful and easy walk!
Short little walk into a small glacier cut canyon. The best part is after the maintained trail.
What a beautiful site! It's a short walk in to see the gorge and the wonderful scenery, well worth it!! Nice little waterfall at the end as well!! Walking path is maintained and there is ample parking. I would definitely recommend taking the time to visit!!
A must visit if your in the Devil's lake area. Winter, spring, summer or fall, anytime is a good time. The rock formations and the stream the run through the Glen make it memorable. We went in the spring with still some ice near the waterfall at the end of the Glen. The Glen starts slowly the afternoon a 1/2 mile your surrounded by rock cliffs. It's a nice hike during any time of the year
Great way to see how the Earth was put together. Easy hiking.
Love this place. Great views.
This hike is in and out. Just shy of a mile both ways (obviously). It's a good hike for those who don't want something too difficult, but also want a unique view for a hike. There is a bit of climbing near the end, I'm talking minimal. Also, if it isn't winter you will be walking through water. Or you'll be jumping from rock to rock to avoid it. It's a nice hiking area and I recommend it.
Great place to hike. The glen itself is beautiful. However, you will be crossing the creek a few times which can get wet if you slip off the rocks. Hiking boots are recommended, but not required.
Beautiful hike. First half is stroller friendly...but if you want to get to the end strollers will not work. Some climbing is involved. Fun experience
Breathtakingly beautiful! Since a flood destroyed the walkway back to the waterfall access is tricky. Either bring good waterproof boots or shoes that you don't mind getting wet.
Good place for hiking
A lush and green gem. The little stream running through has a mountain stream feel. The glen itself feels ancient with plenty of mossy growth.
This is a nice local get away. Walk the path through the woods, through the canyon walls on to the quaint falls. Get outdoors adventure for families.
I would give this place a 5 star rating if it weren’t for their creepily disgusting bathrooms. It’s like whoever designed those things was like, “Okay let’s instead of putting toilets in let’s just put holes so that whenever people need to go number 2 they have to stand up.” Sounds like a great idea!” Oh, also let’s never clean it.”
Beautiful place to hike. The second half is a make your own trail but it's worth it. Just plan on your feet getting wet for that part since there are a couple stream crossings. The first half is well maintained and very family and stroller friendly.
This is Wisconsin's first historic scenic trail. Very beautiful! It is located on the Devil's Lake property. You will have to drive a couple of miles to get there. The hiking starts out paved, and does get more challenging the further you go in. Lots of wonderful photo opportunities there! Tons of rocks to walk through, under, over. Big river leading to the waterfall at the end, which is everyone's major goal. You won't regret this one! Nice and cool if you've spent the day hiking in hot areas!
Nicely kept, lots of parking. The trail is beautiful.
Came here w/friends during Memorial Day weekend. We came early around 9am so parking wasn't a problem but it does fill up fast during holidays. Late comers will have to resort to street parking. This is an okay trail that doesn't have any spectacular views or scenery. The trail follows a small stream, many times crossing over the stream itself. It would be advisable to wear footwear that you don't mind getting wet. There is a small waterfall if you go beyond the designated trail, climbing over some boulders at your own risk. Signs are posted throughout the trail. Stating the obvious: Be sure to have strong (deep woods) insect repellent as the mosquitoes here are relentless!!
Recommend going on a week day so it's not so busy. Clean and beautiful. Nice trail and water.
An amazing experience. Wear waterproof hiking boots and prepare to climb over rocks. What a blast. Short hike but worth the 2 hr drive for me.
The most beautiful and best part is beyond the end of the maintained trail sign, and right up to the waterfall that you are allow to hike too.
A wonderful surprise! Gorgeous! First half of the hike was quite easy. A little more challenging after managed trail, to get back to the waterfall. Worth it for the amazing views, though. Wow!
Great fish fry and nice meeting locals.
There's some really neat rocks out there. Lotsa very big, very old rocks. Very scenic.
Beautiful hike through the Baraboo Bluffs area if Wisconsin. Once short hike and fun trying to figure out how to follow the water and not get your feet completely soaked.
Beautiful place for a good hike.
Beginning part of hike is simple and a little boring but the last half is the coolest hiking. Walk across rock in the stream! Its amazing!! Would recommend it!! Make sure you go to the waterfall at the end!
Good beginner trail. Relaxing.
Nice place to visit. Rocky path. Dont bring your nice shoes, they might get wet if you miss a rock and step on the water.
Nice hiking place.
Take the hole family, it is truly amazing, the smells of flowers and tree's will be great.
Well maintained, beautiful trail, awesome piece of history.
Beautiful cavern, medium "ibex" skills needed to climb to the end. So cool to see the trees growing thru the rocks, feel the change of temperatues, smell the stone. Explored with 5 kids, ages 3-7. Bring shoes that can get wet, bug spray, water and a snack.
Great hike. Love the canyon views
I always enjoy hiking here, there is more than first meets the eye! Perfect cooling hike on a hot day!
Great trail! Starts off easy. At the end of the trail you have to walk along the creek and climb over boulders. The waterfall is a fun ending to the trail.
This place was magical! So beautiful and so much geological significance in this area! Great place to explore with kids!
Amazing place! Short hike with some scrambling up rocks but we'll worth the effort.
Great hike. A good little work out.
Very beautiful and easy to hiking. You just need to bring water shoes or old sneakers. You probably get wet. It is easy in beginning, when you arrive stream, it becomes more little difficult.
This is a truly amazing place. I loved the rugged hiking path that ended in an amazing view of a waterfall. Just be ready for climbing over small boulders, walking through streams and avoiding low hanging trees. Take a camera, you'll be sorry if you don't.
This is a great little trail. Been to Devil's Lake dozens of times and never wandered over here till this time. Trail is pretty easy until it gets to the unmaintained area going through the stream. Lots of fun going through that, and some really cool scenery and geography.
Beautiful hiking trail would have given at 5 stars but parking lot is awfully small
At the beginning nice asphalt trails might deceive you into thinking that you should take your stroller. That would be a mistake. You will encounter large rocks on the trails (turning baby into milkshake), stairs (making you wish you hadn't forgot the front carrier) and a stream to cross (who knew you would portage your car-seat?!). The end brings you to a nice shaded area by a stream. Getting to the waterfall is not possible for those not willing to jump from rock to rock up upstream, but offers a beautiful view for those who are. A short hike, not crowded, and plenty of room to play.
Fantastic foliage. Though a trail or two is no longer being maintained it's still a lively and amazing wilderness to trek through!
I love Parfreys Glen great place the trails are cool hiking through the gorge is awesome the waterfall is beautiful it doesn't feel like your in Wisconsin which I love
Visited on a nice foggy, hot and humid morning. Was the perfect short hike for my boys. One of the most beautiful, yet hidden, natural areas in the state. Was my 1st time here and is not amongst my top 3 favorites in Wisconsin. Loved it and WILL be going back!
Amazing place for a summer hike for the whole family. A perfect little stream flowing through the rocks that is fun and good for kids to get some good times in nature. Probably about 90 minutes if you take your time.
Love going here. Beautiful
One of the most beautiful places I have been a lot of plants that are only found there beautiful the hike is good for all ages
Had an absolute blast here!
Easy hike, until you get to the glen where it gets wet and slippery. Pretty place.
Great quick hike
Unique find. Recommend
So fresh I really like it of you like nature you have to visit .
Parfrey's Glen is still one of the most enjoyable hikes in Wisconsin. There are moments hiking up the creek that wow you when you make it around the corner. It's simple, quiet, and beautiful.
Pretty hike. Had to cross the stream several times. Managed to stay dry. Enjoyable stop.
Beautiful park and trail. Some rough walking in places, but totally worth it.
Amazingly beautiful place! Highly recommend the hike. Took my 13m old daughter in a frame carrier and found the Rocky climbs a little too much for us. Recommend bringing a smaller carrier if your planning to bring smaller children. Definitely an enjoyable hike though! Oh and be prepared to get your feet wet!
If you’re spending time in Devil’s Lake or Baraboo, this is a must see part of the park. This is a relatively easy hike until you reach the gorge, where it becomes slightly more difficult. If you want to see the prettiest part of this natural area, you’ll have to do a bit of climbing on rocks. Nothing too crazy, but small children or older people might not be able to make it. Once you reach the end of the walk, the view is something you can’t get anywhere else. You almost feel like you’re underwater millions of years ago. The layers of rocks going all the way up have a beautiful, unique history you can’t see anywhere else. I would absolutely recommend adding this to your list of hiking trails to do near Devil’s Lake State Park.
Loved it! So beautiful! But it can get very very busy on the weekend. Take shoes that are waterproof or you don't mind getting wet. The hike is over the stream several times and up and over rocks and boulders. It's something the kids will love! And just gorgeous scenery.
Beautiful! And the brook running along the trail kept the temperature at least 10° cooler than in the parking lot.
Great trail! Recommend water shoes
I would say that Parfrey's Glen is a very beautiful place that everyone definitely needs to see! It is a hidden gem ♡. Parking lot is a bit small, but parking on the street. The views along the path are so serene and relaxing. Bring good shoes for rock climbing and and be prepared for wet or muddy shoes. It is worth it. The views are great. Will go again! :)
Wonderful hike w/well-maintained trail. Relatively easy till 1/4 mile. Popular but not over-crowded.
Gorgeous scenery. Great place to hike or picnic!
Really cool spot bring water shoes you will get well feet if you want to see the best parts.
Nice park. Nice place to walk.
Easy to find the parking lot, trail, and natural beauty. First half of the trail we saw plenty of violets. Second half we hiked on the side of the giant rocks to see the small waterfall at the end. Would go again
Beautiful scenic area! Great for hiking! Water pump hasn't worked for a long time. (Evidently, Wis Department of Natural Resources will never fix it.) So, NO running water! You can't cook, and there are NO garbage cans. Park is not as it was many years ago. Original beauty is gone (due to many IMPROVEMENTS)? We have even defied Mother Nature (God) by way of changing water flow. However, it is still a wonder (especially, in the freezing winter)! During the severe heat of summer (if you can stand the smell of the pit toilets) you can use them. NO way to wash (sanitary?). 2 houses across the road (we are 1 who has been here many yrs & have provided rides to hospital, back to campsites, & to Hwy to cars. We've provide help (as far as water, hosing down exhausted hikers, phone use (hikers locked out of their cars) refreshments to replentish energy, & service dog to guide helped or lost hikers. Dogs are NO LONGER allowed in the park! I think it is time for an OUTCRY from the public!
Great hike and scenery! Climbing over there boulders at the end was challenging and fun. Would definitely go back and do it again.
What spectacular place to visit. Short hike for a nice reward. It's a noticeable temperature change when you start to walk between the rock walls. The first part of the trail it was 90 degrees and humid. Felt a little like an air conditioned hike once you reached the rock walls. Absolute natural beauty. Well worth your time
Very unique area, hike follows a serene stream with lots of interesting flowers and then enters into a narrow glen with excellent views. The path/trail is easy to follow, gets a little more difficult with little children if you want to explore more into the glen (which you should) after the marked trail ends.
Gorgeous hike! Wear good hiking shoes that can get wet.
Gorgeous! My favorite nearby hike.
Hidden gem for sure. Probably wasn't the best idea to bring a 7 year old LOL
There's plenty of natural beauty, and a terrifying glimpse into our geological history on this off the footpath hike into the gorge of Parfrey's Glen State Natural Area! Be prepared to cross the stream several times on this roughly one mile hike back to the waterfall. And watch your step! Some of the rocks can get pretty slippery when you have wet and/or sandy feet!
Beautiful scenery.
Love this hike. Beautiful scenery and like that parking lot takes you through to devil's lake with route on left.
Amazing little hike. Non paved paths and the trail ends about 3/4 of the way through and you need to scale rocks and cross a creek a few times. This is more of an off the path home than the other trials in the park. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Northshore parking area.
Beautiful hiking trail!! The path does narrow and soon your jumping rocks and walking across logs!
This is a nice little, well-defined hike, great in the fall, but esp. in the heat of summer; the gorge is a cool spot. We hadn't been there since the washout some years ago. Before, the falls were maybe 20 feet high and the walk up and back was on a built path through the gorge. Now, the path through the woodsy part is still great. The rest is a mix of path and hopscotch on rocks back and forth over the shallow creek. Regardless, it's a beautiful feature of the land. The layers of rock that have been exposed show an interesting geology - at least to me!
Beautiful! We walked through on a hot and humid day, and the shade and sounds of the water were perfectly relaxing. Great by yourself or with others.
So beautiful. Almost like traveling to a whole other area of the world due to the wetness from the foliage and rocks, very much felt like I was in the rain forest at times. Make sure to hike all the way to the glen, well worth the time!
Hiked on the Ice Age Trail an hour uphill and 30 mins down
A must see hidden gem located near devils lake. Watch out for trolls and fairies. Probably a good idea to wear water shoes because there is a number of creek crossings. Strollers and really young children may need to be carried near the end. Totally worth the small hike.
What a great place to visit for a few hours excellent family time. Their parking lot is rather small, so we had to park on the road. Not the safest option with small kids. This was my first time here and I really enjoyed the walk in and taking in all the scenery. Be prepared to get a wet foot if you're not careful spelunking on the rocks in the stream. I'm looking forward to going back!
One of my absolute favorite trails! It’s a cant miss if you enjoy hiking at all!
A beautiful hike. Loved listening to the babbling creek and climbing the rocks to get to the pretty waterfall at the end.
Good walk but as we got up the trail the boardwalks are gone. Been a few years since we have been there but a much harder trek now!
Wonderful Park a must see
Beautiful gorge and stream
Nice hike to little waterfall. Feet are going to get we in the streambed so prepare, harder climbing at the end but doable, even with my bad knee.
Perfect, peaceful slice of heaven. Wear good solid walking shoes so you can get to all the sights.
Wisconsin's first State Natural Area provides a glimpse into the beauty of our state. The paved path runs a short distance, the gravel and dirt path runs a little further, and the non-maintained trail continues even further. The parking lot was full when we arrived and the park was busy with hikers the entire time.
Beautiful place to visit!! I wanna go back soon
.....What a view! At first its some nice streams, but when you get to the meat of the trail just wow. Would recommend for everyone.
Love this place. About 40 min walk/hike to the falls. Very scenic. Managed trails stop about half way back and then it's walking and climbing through creek bed and boulders.
Very beautiful
This was our favorite place to hike while visiting Devil's Lake. The trail meanders along a creek into some neat dells. The mosquitoes weren't bad when we were there, but I would imagine they could get bad if it was hot.
Nice place to get out and explore. The science behind the glen is amazing, but don't wear your new sneakers. guaranteed to get wet feet. In order to hike to the top you have to battle a few pretty big rocks. We saw plenty of older folks turning around before they reached the end, but I was able to navigate to the top 5 months pregnant with a 1 year old in a backpack so it's certainly manageable.
Amazingly beautiful! A little adventurous hiking with a waterfall at the end!
Absolutely gorgeous! A bit challenging walking on the rocks, but really fun!
Absolutely gorgeous, nice easy hike that even an amateur hiker like me could enjoy
