Amazing little stop in k towm

Awesome experience
By far the best free Museum in all of South East Wisconsin. Take in all 3 museums and make a day trip of the nicest Great Lakeside areas around. Plenty of great craft breweries and tasty lunch spots nearby too.
Is so nice and very actively
A nice museum
There are THREE museums that are part of the system: Dinosaur, Natural History & Civil War. The latter two being right next to one another. These are all hidden gems filled with outstanding exhibits & housed in state-of-the-art award winning buildings. Their biggest challenge is location, which is along the lake shore in a beautiful setting with unobstructed views to the east. No one seems to know about these places except the school district!! To get there one has to travel through town about 20 minutes from I-94 (very inconvenient for some) but it's worth it. The collections of objects, displays & educational programs for both youths & adults is fabulous...& admission is free! Anyone looking to spend some fun time any day of the week should give this museum a visit. You can look up everything on their website. Bring a friend! You'll be pleasantly surprised & glad you made the trip to a top shelf modern & clean establishment, right next door to the Civil War Museum. Treat yourself, children & friends!
I didn't see the entire museum but what I did see blew me away! For a free museum it was clean, pleasant, well-maintained, and fun to explorr. Staff were friendly and helpful. I hope to go back next time I'm in the area to see the rest. You could easily spend a good few hours here, grab some lunch and hit up the Dino museum down the road afterwards!
Beautiful exhibit if watercolors May-Aug 2st week
Fun, beautiful museum. Great interactive room for kids.
We arrived 1 hour before they closed we walked in carrying a 9 week old puppy( see photo). All the workers watched us walk in never said no dogs allowed we got at least a 1/4 of the way through the museum before anyone approached us . There was no sign on the doors for no pets . I wonder if someone had a service dog if they would be allowed into this place?
The most amazing free admission museum in Kenosha.
Great museum and its free! Amazing collection of artifacts and a great art exhibition
While it's a smaller museum, the staff was very informative and the exhibits were interesting. Worth a visit
When in Kenosha, the history museums are a must! Amazingingly well done. They show not just history in great ways but relate to the present. Kenosha city leaders wisely built their city and kept on top of change to keep it going. (Railroad going elsewhere - build one between Milwaukee and Chicago that goes through Kenosha!). I'm a Clevelander, and this was my first visit to Kenosha. Definitely want to go back soon!
The Kenosha Public Museum is a natural science Museum they have skeleton of a large mammoth that's well worth the trip. They have on display all sorts of fossils arrowheads and pottery from the Native American cultures and ice ages. They have a area for the kids too be interactive by doing drawings and books and bird watching. They're upstairs is a area that has special exhibits as well as permanent exhibits. This is a smaller Museum that's not overwhelming to small children. You will however find yourself bringing the kids back again and again as well as yourself.
We always enjoy coming here. Such fun exhibits. Love the hands on activities that are there for younger ones.
My aunts, uncles and cousins used to come here once a year when I was a kid. Now I am an adult, our family continues the tradition. Wonderful place.
Awesome little local museum, showcasing the history of Kenosha. It's free to the public, they just ask for a donation of your choice. The upper floor offers artwork by a few different people that they change frequently. Entertaining for kids and adults. The gift shop is also very good
We weren't sure where to go when we entered the building, but the staff was eager to help guide us. There was a prehistoric display on the left that was a bit scary for little ones, perfect for 5+. On the right there was an area with activities. Upstairs had a gallery of paintings.
For a free museum this was fantastic. The lower level has an awesome collection of animals and interesting history on American Indians, especially the Potawatomi tribe. Much of the natural history exhibit is related back to the local area. Upstairs were more exhibits with curios and different environments and the day we went there was a watercolor art gallery. The views of the lake are stunning and the building itself is very interesting just to wall around. The grounds are also beautiful. The gift shop had some unique items as well.
My kids love this place. Its right off the lake so after the museum you can picnic with a view. Also it's free!
Little but nice
Worth your time. Lovely small town museum on beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Nice eclectic collection.
I love my local library. So happy they have Sunday hours.
Great museum. Kid friendly. Good parking.
This really is a hidden gem. Not many people here at the time I was here which was surprising. Great modern feel, great exhibits, two floors. It’s top notch
Lovely place. Friendly staff. Exciting knowledge. Kid friendly. Lots of activities. Will be returning!
A great free museum. Learn about the Kenosha mammoth. Let your kids go play in the front room with the toy dinosaurs, wooly mammoth puzzles, or the blocks. Make a donation if you can to keep it free!
Has been a fun place to visit since I was a child, but a lot of things have changed and things arent as good as they used to be. For example, I wish they would bring their prehistoric touch pool back in the ocean exhibit.
This museum is a fun place to visit. The main floor depicts the history of the earth through exhibits and diaramas. Coming face to face with a life size mammoth is worth the trip. Upstairs the venue is always changing. If you are planning a trip, it's free and worth it.
i like that its free and you learn about cool things that happend back then, also a great place for hide and seek!
We loved our family visit!
Amazing place to visit. Wonderful exhibits
Love it here. Just a small 5 dollar donation is well worth it they have alot to do here with kids, famy, or just your self.
Had my wedding there. The staff and location were incredible!
My kids thought it was really neat. It doesn't take too long to walk through, but so had neat stuff for them to look at
Great place to take the kids. They also have an activity center for the kids to do hands on activities.
There is a reason why this is one of the must see places in Kenosha! This museum is much smaller if you're comparing it to the ones in Milwaukee and Chicago, but with its prime lakefront location, huge free parking lot, and no entry or exhibition change ($5 recommended for donation), this place definitely is worth visiting. They have a beautiful Native American exhibit and a huge mammoth fossil.
Highly recommend this place ! They change it up regularly.
Very nice place to visit people very friendly
Great people. Very knowledgeable about exhibits and local attractions and food. Gift shop is a bit generic but they still have a penny roller machine which is amazing and seems to be getting rarer
Excellent museum. Loved it
It gives justice to the American Indian way of life.
Excellent place and great environment for the little ones.
Environment is nice. Content is very general and simple. Free, but you get what you pay for. Mammoth is cool. For deeper content look to Chicago Field and Science and Industries Mueseams.
Very nice place to visit. Wish we had more time to explore more. The whole city of Kenosha was very pleasant. Very nice people. Would definitely think about coming back here with entire family. I would give the museum an A++++
Very nice museum. Staff is friendly and it is kid friendly. Great for a family day.
Nice memories
People native to the area already know what a gem this little museum is, but it packs a fun and educational experience for the newcomer as well. Whether you've always lived close by, or if you're just passing through, do yourselves a favor and drop in. It's also a great area for Pokemon Go players to go wild and catch 'em all.
Excellent place to visit. Friendly and informative
Great way to spend a couple of hours. Good survey of Wisconsin through time.
Awesome place to bring your kids. Admission is free they do ask for a donation however they’re not pushy about it at all. My kids love the arts and crafts area. Don’t forget to check upstairs as they have exhibits rotating in and out.
Nice play to take the kids or just spend some downtime. Most of the exhibits are very interesting. Although, any time I've gone the art exhibit is always closed. Would've given a 5 if that were different.
Had a blast at the museum! There are a lot of fun displays (both fossils and dioramas) and also a lot of informative literature posted everywhere for the adult or active learner! Nice gift shop and children's play area. Clean bathroom as well.
Free, realistic and ageless.
Free fun for the family
Really nice museum for being right in Kenosha, it's not huge or anything but perfect for little ones. Even has a play/learning area for the kiddos with alot of activities, plus it's free. Great thing to do to get out of the house with kids to go learn and play. We always have fun coming here!
I love KPM! Everyone there is so friendly and all of my kids love it! They have wonderful exhibits and the kids can really immerse themselves in the experience. The fact that it is free doesn't hurt at all either.
A wonderful place exhibits well done
Surprisingly fun! Several rooms and lots of information. It was a great way to spend an afternoon with my 9 year old. He thought the mammoth was just the bees knees.
Nice little local museum. On the smaller side; probably only need an hour or so to see it all.
Excellent wings, juicy burgers and top notch service. We will go back for more.
Really fun museum to visit with young kids. It's free although donations are highly recommended. First floor is a timeline of the local area (starting with prehistoric). There is also an activity room and a cute gift shop. Second floor has a new "curiousity box" exibit and an art gallery that changes every few weeks. There are also areas that can be rented for parties.
Fantastic place! Having our wedding here!
Nice little museum.
Love the museum complex, good value.
Great place for a few hours and also it is FREE
Freee, neat, boutique-esque natural museum featuring local-specific natural history and science with kids play area. They have a mammoth fossil and a giant ice age beaver!
Went with my daughters school and it was really nice. Would definitely go back again with the whole family.
I've been here quite a few times and it's always interesting. Full of information. This time we were there for kenosha's christmas tree lighting ceremony. There was hot chocolate and popcorn. Lots of fun!
Kids love it here
My kids had a blast here
It goes through the history of Kenosha from the very beginning of known life. The children's area is interactive and fun for all ages. The classes provided are so much fun!
Greeter is polite and inviting. He made our visit worth it
Very nice!
Had a nice time there, didn't realize American Motors was from there.
Nice museum with great exhibits, and changing exhibits on the upper level. There are activities for the kids, and a beautiful gift shop with unique items. The museum is free but we always leave a donation. Everyone working here is very nice and helpful. There are special event weekends with food, crafts, musical entertainment, too much to list. Check out the website for more info.
Always a pleasure to visit
Free museum but a huge amount of items to see! Totally worth the visit! It would be informative for younger children but not a lot of "touch and play" items for them. They do have a separate kids learning area.
Such a amazing experience , care goes into each exhibit, friendly staff admission is free , donations are gladly excepted
We keep coming back and discovering new facts every time.
As free museums go the exhibits and presentations here are well above their pay grade. I would've gladly paid for the experience.
I love the classes they have, great instructors and friendly staff.Beautiful place
We come here everytime that we are in town
Did not get the Jurassic Park experience I was expecting.
Interesting for folks of all ages, staff very helpful.
Free! Really well done, great kids hands-on exploration area, and usually a fun art exhibit upstairs.
Great place to bring kids!
Great little place to learn about native people of the Midwest. The have large scale dioramas of native people with explanatory signage. Also, some good fossils from the ancient earth. Dramatic stone wall in the large entry area is a big architectural plus. Their donor wall on the second floor is sharp. Glass squares of varying sizes based on donor. I used to work in fundraising, so that was interesting to me. And, free!!
One small exhibit. Upstairs exhibits were closed. Hope to see more next time
We used to visit Kenosha every summer from San Francisco Just for the public Museum and Dinosaur Museum. Then we decided to live here. My second child learned to walk at the Kenosha Public Museum. We adore all of them (except the Civil War Museum- not kid friendly)... We love the staff, volunteers, weekly classes and summer classes. Such a wonderful place for kids to grow up and make your daily routine.
Great place to take the family. They have great hands on activities for the kids. They have great exhibits on the history of Kenosha.
It's a nice place not a lot of things, small city to be expected very nice building
What can I say, it's a museum. Nice selection of interesting Kenosha memorabilia
Great place to bring the kids.
Its free, exhibits are good but limited. Nice location in the summer.
A little small but packed with so many interesting exhibits
Very fun place to visit! Lots to do for every age, glad we stopped in
Love taking my kids here!
Anyone out here looking for an afternoon of education in a museum...stop looking come stay. This is the kind of place we all need in our little hometown.
It's very understandable why they wouldn't allow food and beverages (unless sealed) beyond their displays. HOWEVER, staff made our family very uncomfortable while arguing about their exact policy amungst each other, specifically, about a flipping water bottle. After witnessing a very discouraging debate, we were allowed to proceed with a sealed beverage. About an hour had passed after seeing all the different displays, we were again harassed and reminded that no food or beverages were allowed beyond a certain point by the same woman. We were very uncomfortable by the situation being brought to our attention yet again. We were very understanding, respectful, and apologized for any inconveniences from the very beginning! But this was a very persistent older woman near the donation box that made me personally feel that she thought we were abusive of the facility and it's regulations. We just wanted to have a good time and it seemed that was impossible by being continuously reminded and harassed. See to it that this woman is pulled aside for the way she speaks with people. We were genuinely unaware and didn't deserve to be treated this way.
Nice place to see natural history. Saw an exclusive Smithsonian video on moon landing.
The museum itself is great and free! They have recommended donations, but other than that you can just walk right in. The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the greeter in the front. She was not friendly at all. Hopefully the other greeters are nicer. Other than that, the museum is a great place to visit.
Great exhibits and very clean for being free
Great local museum with a dedicated kids area, wooly mammoth, and art upstairs! Great local events like the trains at the holiday season and ethnic fair in the spring.
Excellent place for little ones to learn, create and have fun.
Very educational the kids were very excited about the exclovation of the diosouasr and how they did it. It was a free museum and took donation. They had coloring station so they could color their favorite diosouasr and a place they could dig up their own bones they way the polytolalious did. Children was very excited.
The enjoyable and informative local museum,
Fun for my son. Lots to learn and do. At least for my 2 year old. And it's free. Can't beat free! :)
This is a great place for locals to go. The museum is free with a suggested donation of $5. The kids will be able to bird watch and label birds they see. There is an area where you ca walk through time starting with the ice age. Upstairs is where local artist will have their work on display. Tons to do and right off the lake as well.
Great place for kids
Great museum that shows the natural history of the area as well as some fascinating dioramas about native American Life and history. Check out the big natural stone wall in the main hallway. Another often overlooked display is of crystals and rocks from all around the world.
It's a beautiful museum. Their Museum Munchkins program is very cute, my one year old enjoyed it.
Very nice museum. Good hands on area for kids to explore. Friendly staff. Nice view of Lake Michigan from the museum.
I like to go every time they have a new art gallery. I am never let down by the experience, even when just revisiting the displays that have been there for years.
Didn't see the museum. Went for a wedding reception. Nicely organized. Great view of the lake
Excellent little museum, make sure to donate and exit through the gift shop! Check out their art gallery too!
It's a nice place for adults, young kids will find this place very very boring. There not much to it. A person will be able to walk through it relatively fast. One a whole its worth a once around.
Beautiful building. I was there for a baby shower.
Kenosha museum s are great-
Terrific museum, great for the kids and for adults. Made for a really good day trip! Keep up the good work!
Excellent, informative, educational. Great family experience. Activities for all ages
The new taxidermy exhibit is amazing- a great way to give anyone a perspective on the true size and details of so many animals we rarely, if ever, see in person.
So many activities for kids!
Amazing exhibits! Great little day trip from Milwaukee.
Nice exhibits, great for adults and children.
Great little museum with a hands on exhibit for littles. Upstairs is an art gallery of local artists paintings which I thought was marvelous.
This museum is a fun place to visit. The main floor depicts the history of the earth through exhibits and diaramas. Coming face to face with a life size mammoth is worth the trip. Upstairs the venue is always changing. If you are planning a trip, it's free and worth it.
Great free museum that seems improved everytime we visit. Although it is free donate when you can so they can keep it up!
Great exhibition
Great! And it was free.
I love the Kenosha Public Museum. I really enjoy the natural exhibit - the displays are nicely done and well thought out. The artwork exhibits they have are really exceptional - I really give them a lot of credit there.
Very clean, friendly employees and lots of fun things to see..
This is a beautiful museum. It isn't large and you can see it all in an hour or two. The mammoth skeleton and reconstructed dig site is impressive. Surprisingly it is free to get in. Donations are accepted. I would highly recommend dropping by if you are in the area.
It's alright but I like the Civil War Museum and the History museum on Simmons Island better.... Those are Kenosha's 5 star museums. That said, this museum has a great kids discovery area!
I love their Historical Diaramas of the Kenosha area from the past.
Do you have a hour of time to waste then this is the best place to go. Not only do you learn more about the area but the exhibits never get old from looking at the fossils to the amazing view on the second floor, to the new ecology exhibit. Its counterparts the Dinosaur, History, and Civil are also must sees every single one making you think and realize how small in comparison to the universe you really are and how time has shaped us.
I love dinosaurs.
I love it here and they have so many beautiful things in the gift shop ❤️
A small local museum that packs in a lot of detail in a small space. The bonus to keep you coming back are the rotating exhibits on the second floor. Be sure to look into the additional workshops offered. I've experienced a live raptor exhibit (free) and blacksmithing (paid) just to name a few.
Great museum to tour and get a taste and history of Kenosha.
Always love visiting our Museam.
The art display was great
They are always involved in the events that go on downtown and we love doing the christmas tree lighting every year. Such a cool little museum that is super kid friendly and not expensive. So happy to have this museum right in town!
Free entertainment! Bottom floor is the classic stuff that doesn't change but has that nostalgia from elementary field trips and really some great information on the history of the area. The upstairs usually has some really amazing rotating exhitbits.
They have many very interesting displays, and unique ways to interact with several of them! Free to get in with a suggested donation of $3 each which is of course optional but very cheap considering what you get to experience. Great place to take the kids to learn and have fun doing it! Beautiful views of the surrounding area including the lake and marina!
Went 6/8/19 Was not interested in art portion. Liked the displays of the duck decoys even though not all were native. Liked the arrowheads and the different mammals. Would go again next time I go to the civil war Museum next door
Free admission, surprisingly good exhibits. Lots to see. Arts and crafts and hands on learning area for the kids. Very well maintained.
I love this place. Little but fun
Well they had Taste of Kenosha out in the street behind the museum.
Fabulous, free museum with several exhibits to while away an afternoon. Especially good for children.
Highly recommend for all ages.
Love the hidden doors and exhibits. This museum is my favorite. Keep it up
It's a nice museum. I like that it's free. My husband and I went there because we live close by and it's something to do for free. It would probably appeal to kids more though. Lots of fossils and prehistoric animals.
Fine museum on local natural history.
