This has been on my bucket list for a while and my friend and I passed by...I almost had to slam on my brakes because I did not realize this was the same place I had read about! I learned that the priest build this on his own and it took him his entire lifetime. I also learned that he did not buy the material but added on as he collected shells, rocks, and other material. Very gorgeous roadside attraction. Its worth a quick stop

Love the Grotto. One beautiful place to reflect. I first saw the Grotto on Rare Visions and Roadside Revelations and had to visit the Church of the Holy Ghost.

Awesome work, done by a single priest in the early 1900's. Worth the trip and very awe inspiring. Take the trip and check this out, garage sale in the church basement every Sunday.

We stopped here on a roadtrip and it was interesting...so glad we did! Walked around viewing all the rock work and then went inside the church where they were having a $1 sale. Cemetery is in the back it has other statutory works and stations of Jesus . Entry fee is whatever you want to donate in the donation box. I did $5 my sisters did $1. Check it out if you're in the area.

Grade A roadside Americana. If you're traveling through the Tri-State area then you should stop by. The labor of an eccentric priest, the grotto intertwines symbols and heroes of the faith as well as a sheltered outdoor altar. Antique glass, shells, rocks, crystal specimens and petrified wood are combines with cement to create this colorful example of sacred art. From here venture up to Potosi for a bite and a brew before crossing over the Crossville ferry.

I actually visited the Thrift Store located in the church basement. It is open seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day, daily from 9-4. Prices are very reasobable with lots of good deals. If you like thrifting, make this a stop. And street parking available, provided you don't plan on thrifting during church service hours.

If you happen to be driving through Wisconsin and are into religious icons _or_ single-minded borderline-obsessive creations, it's worth a detour to see this creation in Dickeyville, WI. It's a religious grotto, like you can find around many catholic churches/monasteries/convents, but this is among the most ornate/impressive ones I've seen. It's definitely more colorful than most, but without being gaudy/garish. You can tell this was a labor of love/devotion. The main "installations" were neat, but I think what really got me was that even the "ropes" surrounding all the areas/gardens were made out of stones - that took some serious work/dedication. Everything was very impressive. Remember to drop a few buck in the box out front - just the upkeep on this has to be expensive.

Bob Sullivan

Could be an all day site. Graveyard has historical markers,. Gift shop is quaint and grotto has lots of interesting rocks and shells.

Mariah Thomas

I love the different colors of stone and shells that are put together to make the structures.

Withscissors Irun

Not a religious person but it was still really cool to walk around and look at every thing. If you're into crystals and shells you could spend hours looking at all of them and there are bonus pieces of pottery and antique pieces mixed in.
