I'm not a huge cave fan as the ones I've visited were very disappointing and boring. The Crystal Cave was not that way. I was interested the whole time. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave and the things in the cave. The pace of the tour was perfect and kept you interested. The cave itself was well taken care of and I never felt claustrophobic. They had good lighting and actually turned the lights off as we went from area to area which made me happy they didn't waste electricity. My daughter loved this experience so much she wants to go back!
Not crowded, good family fun. Mini golf too! Good tour guide. Informative and fun tour.
Interesting to see. Takes about an hour to 90 minutes.
My family and I went to the cave over the weekend for mother's day and it was amazing. The staff were all so kind and informative. And I was very appreciative that our guide, I believe her name was Kayla, referred to me as "they" when she wasn't sure if I was a boy or a girl. Which was really nice because most people think I'm a girl when I'm actually a boy LOL. So yeah, all in all it was a wonderful experience and I would absolutely take advantage of any special occasion to go again
Interesting cave lot of fun good experience bring a jacket is cold inside
Great place to spend time with family! Wonderful group of workers.
What a great experience! You are 7 stories underground. Our tour guide Tony was amazing. He was interesting and answered all questions. We especially enjoyed Charlie’s room. Easy to navigate. Stairs and ramps with hand rails. Speed is good for everyone. The complete darkness was unnerving. We also did the mining and got some great treasures. A bonus. Clean bathrooms, picnic area and nice garden. They are also adding mini golf.
Tour guide was awesome. The price was great and the park was nice. The problem was not much the souvenirs I wish more came from the cave its self. I didn't want a rock from Mexico. I would have liked it from the Cave it self other then that it was great.
Great place to take the kids. Very entertaining story. Stop at the many cheese shops on the way back!
Really cool place! Great for adults and kids of all ages. Definitely wear a sweater or jacket no matter what time of year it is.
Very friendly knowledgeable staff. If you want to go in an underground cave but are worried about too many steps this could be a good option. Tour takes an hour to complete.
What an adventure . The tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. The “total darkness” experience was well worth the trip. I would say I would come back in 10 years or so. Children would have an absolute blast as the guides let you “lead” the crew into different sections of the cave. Should have taken more photos. #ibravedthecave
Was very good havent been here in years would be more than happy to come back again
It a neat place to take a family outing!
Overall a great pit stop from driving down I-94. Cave is young and you can see fresh formations being created. Guides are friendly and knowledgeable! Only down side is the price at $18 it is on the more expensive side. Favorite spot is the wishing room, all the coins in the wall and the glow in the dark rocks!
Informative and fun tour; the quirky facts and education about the history and science of the cave were great.
The tour goude Josh is awesome.
We took our 2 year old with for father's day. We strongly recommend you bring a sweater since you go deep enough in the cave that it's cold down there even when it was 90°F outside. We also highly recommend getting at least the smallest packet to try gem panning. This was our favorite part. Although we did not utilize this trip, if you pack a lunch there is a nice picnic area outside as well.
Cool...In more ways than one!
Had a great time, kudos to our tour guide Steve!
It's a really cool cave. Very interesting, with a nice gift shop, you can get a small or large bag of gems you can sluce through, must see
I haven't been but if it's anything like the photos, I'd like to see it.
It was awesome thank you
Fun cave, lots of interesting, cool things to see. Sylvia was an excellent tour guide.
Very cool place to visit. Caves are led by a tour guide so you get all the history. Much bigger than I thought. Would go back anytime, good prices
Crystal Cave is another example of a cave. Our guide was fine, very entertaining but I wish he were more knowledgeable.
So cool! Learned a lot about the caves from Nina! Fun history, great puns, and even got some cave kisses. This is a must see! But watch your head!
Very fun and informative. Well worth the trip!
This place is really cool because you learn so much on the cave and for me the gift shop is addicting to not buy something and now they have a mini golf course which is cool you also learn a lot about dinosaurs
Fun presentation, well guided tour.
Our tour guide Jamie was great! Knowledgeable and funny. Loved learning about the cave and seeing the beautiful crystals
Was very interesting. Are your guide he was amazing. I am sorry I forgot his name. I think it was Justin
While buying something from the gift shop the cashier didn’t give us the right amount of money back. She also didn’t own up to her mistake sadly but it was a really fun tour if you have kids 12 and under.
Fun place to take kids for a trip. The planning for gems (or fossils) experience was great! Definitely bring a warm sweater if you’re visiting in the summer!!
Fun rock mining, a new mini golf course and a education and exciting tour. A great way to spend an afternoon.
Lots of history and fun
This was such a great place to spend a few hours. The grounds are beautiful and I'd like to go back for some hiking. Easily accessible from 94 and quick to get in for a tour. Because we were early, we even got a private tour with our own guide! Everyone was friendly and helpful. We did spend the few extra dollars for gem panning and it was totally worth it - lots of beautiful stones even in the smallest bag. My 7-year-old thought it was amazing!
We went here last summer this a truly amazing experience for all of the family. Make sure to bring your walking shoes there is so much to see. The staff are very knowledgeable and extremely friendly well worth a visit should be promoted more by the Wisconsin Tourist Department. It is a must to see try to read a little about the caves and their discovery in 1888 prior to visiting this way you will have a much better insight of what to see and understand.
The website shows big crystal bars, whereas actually there is nothing such. Disappointing one
Cool experience!
Great place to visit. Granddaughter had a ball panning for gems. Mini golf course being built that looks awesome.
Nice caves but very few to no crystals
I've gone three or four times now and I love crystal cave. About Twenty bucks per person gets you an hour long guided tour. I believe our tour guides name was brenna this time and she was great. Gave us all kinds of info on the lore and geology. And then when its done I usually buy a bunch of tiny stone animals in the gift shop for a buck a piece as gifts for my friends. Im also excited for their mini golf course to open up so we can hang out for the whole day. I've gone before and I will go again.
It was very cool.
I have never been on a cave tour, I didn't know how cold it would be. This tour was A lot of fun for the whole family. We also purchased a bag of fossils and gem stones to pan for, even as an adult - That was alot of fun. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I reccomend a trip here with your friends and family.
Haven't been here for years but decided to go check out the mini golf. It was hot in the sun but a pretty fun course with fun information for 3 years to learn and explore. 9 holes were pretty well suited for a wheelchair. Updated bathrooms and fun gemstone and fossil mining. Didn't do a cave tour but has a great time.
TOTALLY AWESOME! Brought my granddaughter, Like it was when I brought my daughter about 40 years ago
Not too many formations to see. Nice employees.
It's the longest cave in Wisconsin it take a hourer to go through it you can see crystal in the cave
Its super neato inside
This place is awesome been there many times this last time I took my seven-year-old grandson who loved it and they have putt putt golf, which was a big hit for him
Great place if you want to have adventure
Nice and cool. Good summer trip
Very nice facility will be going back soon great tour guides very knowledgable
Great experience and very educational. Neat stuff in the gift shop too!
Tony the tour guide was wonderful, and the cave was interesting, but it was just okay. For the price of it I wont do it again. And the gift shop was expensive, bought my grandkids the mining helmet with lights, then was told I need to buy the batteries too...for other 9 dollars more. There was a nice picnic area we hung around at, because we had drove so far to do this, the whole tour and the gem mining took only 1 1/2 hours. And we drove that far to see this.
Brought our kids here over the summer time and had a great time exploring the caves and seeing bats. We spent some time and money in the gift shop as well, they cracked open geodes and we all thought that was pretty cool. The caves were dimly lit but easy enough to navigate. Saw some bats flying around and some areas of the caves are quite pretty. A pretty quick drive from the Twin Cities.
Cool caves and decent tour guide/information. A bit pricey for a one hour tour. I don't think the tour could be longer, but I would consider going back if the price wasn't so high.
Well developed tour cave.
Very shiny and new facility, really knowledgable tour guides.
Great tour and tour guide. Larger cave which we enjoyed. Visited Wonderland Cave in Black Hills last week, this was larger and more enjoyable.
It's a fun and unique experience. All the employees seem to be very friendly!
Great attraction. Katie was very informative .
Fun place to bring your family
Cave is a great family outing... don’t expect those crazy cool caverns you see on discovery channel. Also... don’t bring you baby unless you plan on carrying them. No backpack baby carriers? I guess they don't want you to have the added bulk? Some of the cave hallways are a little tight. Pricing has gone up from what was on website... now $16 a person.
It's a neat local cave. The guide was very informative. Make sure your kids are wearing pants and a tee shirt, even in the summer because it's colder than you think it's going to be. You can pan for minerals and fossils if you want.
It was a great experience.Even though less number of people,we were treated very nicely.
Nice place to visit a must see.
Visited for our second time. Love the tour. It's very informative and they do a great job. Were remodeling to add more learning experiences. Very interesting story on how the caves were discovered.
Awesome place for the family!!:)
Amazing cave with a very unique structure!
A great experience and fascinating tour
Fun and interesting underground tour. Thought it was a bit overpriced but everybody needs to make a living right? And I'm sure insurance is a killer for a cave expedition. Good destination for a hot day to beat the heat.
Loved the place it’s really amazing with lots of information about the nature and caves. The tour guide was amazing and answered all of our questions.
Very very interesting
Very cool and we had a great tour guide
Very knowledgeable tour guide, and the cave was super cool and interesting.
Always a fun time walking beneath the surface of the earth! About an hour long guided tour with many fun anecdotes. Worh the trip and not too far off the main road.
Very cool.. cave humor
Great place. Just fascinating. Got to go on a visit to my brothers. They have daily tours, am and lg pks yo can purchase in gift shop w/crystals n gems and outdoors you can pan for gold and jewels. Nephew's loved it.Great place to take family
Fun place to visit. Great tour guide!
We absolutely loved our tour guide!
The cave is beautiful. Our tour guide, Rachel, a was excellent. It's 50 degrees, so take a jacket. Also the caves will drip on you, which they called cave kisses, although at times it was more like cave slobbers. The gift shop is really nice and filled with excellent rocks. We saw a mini-golf course, but it was raining. Definitely worth the time and price.
Our family loves caves. The tour was great! We have been a few times and enjoy our visit every time! We took our son when he was three, as he was a very patient inquisitive child, although may not be ideal for all children under five. Great family experience I highly recommend!
Steep incline/declines in certain areas, and lots of stairs when first entering then leaving tour, our guide was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend panning as well. Don't forget a sweatshirt or jacket!
Caves are deep inside like 11 stories building down the ground and temperature is always constant 50 degrees. You have to wait for the timeslot for tour. Tour guide explained well each and every minute detail. But at some point, felt frustrated with that guy. He always pokes u behind to stick with the group and not even gave enough time for taking pictures. Believe me some people only come to take pictures and selfies not to hear ur lectures. You should not hurry them as they paid fair amount of money. And he absolutely didnt allow to touch any part of cave with ur hands. Nah. Not even with your pinky finger's nail should touch the cave. This is the worst part. Disappointed with the tour guide. Expensive store items.
I haven't been here since 3rd grade and for some reason I remember nothing but the first room and shutting off the lights. The tour guides were great and if you're short on cash after tickets, your kids can get two polished mineral rocks for $0.99 in the gift shop. My kids loved it!
The tour was great! Really well informed and very friendly. The caves were so cool! Very fun afternoon.
Had an amazing time bringing my girlfriend over here! And the gem panning was awesome!
Enjoyable. The tour guides knowledgeable and friendly.
It was fun. Young kids doing the tours. You can tell its very scripted, heard multiple groups with the guide saying the exact same thing. I had to leave early cause my kid had to pee and they compensated us for having to only miss about the last 15min. Get 2 free entry's nxt time ya ya.
Very interesting, would definitely recommend.
Our one and a half year old son began having a meltdown part way through the tour. I was so embarrassed, but our tour guide was very patient and understanding. The staff was kind enough to help us leave the tour early. It was a very cool and entertaining tour. We can't wait to go again childless or when our son is older.
Good stop.
Come prepared to duck if you are tall. Lots of interesting formations. We would have liked to spend more time looking and having explanations though. Mining for gems afterward was a highlight for our 8 year old granddaughter.
Great family place. So much to do and very educational
Very informative about the caves and basic geology. Very well maintained despite tours going on since 1942
Fun and educational! Got a lot of gems in the gem panning even with the small bag. Kids and adults were happy! Fun mini golf course and we loved that it had a penny souvenir press and a bracelet to put the penny in.
Our kids loved the tour!
Very interesting had a great time
Very interesting attraction that you should check out. It's an hour tour and it goes pretty deep but it's fun and educational with the help of a tour guide. Also some decent prices and selection at the gift shop.
Very cool cave tour. Awesome natural beauty to see. Lots of pictures taken. Tour given from a secular viewpoint but informative and fun anyway. They are expanding to include minigolf and other attractions in the near future....
A nice cave to visit and to learn a bit about geology.
Neat place! My 10 year old loved it.
Went on a tour recently. I used to go there as a kid. It was just as magical, informative, and fun. Will be going again next year!
It was interesting and a fun day trip for our family. I thought a bit pricey
Fun and energetic, beautiful formations. Something interesting to look at every turn. Great staff, super friendly and really nice. Can't wait to go back next year for the exploration tour!
Mini golf, pan for gemstones, timely cave tours, lovely gift shoppe - PRICEY!
Great tour, easy to do if you’re not really physically active. My wife has a torn acl and could walk and it was definitely a nice cave to see in Wisconsin. Even got to see some bats. Very clean establishment
Fun and educational cave to visit. Wear a jacket as it averages about 50° F. Tour guides are knowledgeable. Tour is only about an hour long and that concerts most of the accessible cave.
The tour guide didn't have much knowledge but when I can over 30 years ago, the guide knew so much more.
So amazing. If you haven't seen it, you MUST.
A beautiful and chilly walk into the depth of the crystal Cave was entertaining for our whole family!
Good place to spend an hour or so.. good introduction to geology for kids. Well maintained and friendly staff
Amazing the cave was awesome but wear hooded sweater if you dont like to get dripped on
Neat underground adventure!!
Amazing place to visit!! Guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave. The cave itself had it's own mistical Atmosphere. The gift shop was very reasonably priced. Our favorite thing in the gift shop was the crack your own geode station. Very fun and very educational for the whole family!!
It was definitely worth it, and we spent $30 to get the gems and fossils and got a lot with it
We had a great visit! It is a smaller, "younger" cave. But it is beautiful! It provides a unique view of the history of the area. The tour guide was knowledgeable and the staff was courteous and helpful.
It's been over 50 years since I've been here. We decided to take another day trip and this was our destination. This is a great place for young and old Lake. The staff is very knowledgeable and they have a lot of fun things to do. Will definitely be bringing your grandkids back. The gift shop is wonderful and has a lot of interesting things from the very low budget and all the way up to $1,000 or more for some interesting carved gemstones.
Cool cave! Had a nice tour.
Love the place 1rst time w/ my boy, super fun.
Fun time. Knowledgeable guides and overall a neat experience.
This was very cool. I have been in caves before and this would be a good first cave to go in. It was easy going and cool. The end of the adult tour was especially amazing. I wont spoil it...
My young kids love this place. Dress warm, it's only 50 degrees down there. Pay a little extra so the kids can do the prospecting and find crystals.
Really cool, kind of expensive but fun!
Very cool! Informative. A very good tourist attraction.
Very informative tour. My grandson loved it. He wanted to go back ASAP.
It's interesting! My boy loved it. They are engaging and have an interesting story to tell. Everyone should go at least once.
The tour was great.
Tion my 6yo daughter here. She loved it. We spent as much time in the gift shop as we did in the cave. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Answered all questions presented to her. The gift shop was fun to look around. Reasonably priced too. We purchased a bag of sand to put in the sluice. I was very satisfied with the amount of gems she found. Overall great experience.
The selections of rocks and fossils are amazing if you are into rocks like I am. The cave tour is cool and the hour goes quick....little chilly down there so bring a sweater. Worth swinging by if your in the area or passing through. They also are making a few improvements now....better bathrooms and mini golf are in the works.
Great place to visit on a rainy day!
Very informational and interesting as well! Staff were nice and knowledgable.
Staff were excellent!
My children and I had a great time. The tour was very informative and super friendly staff. The cave is not handicap accessible, and I wouldn't recommend doing the tour if you struggle to walk as there are a lot of stairs and sloping ramps. My kids had so much fun and want to go again
Very neat place to check out and learn things about caves and crystals
I've been here twice, I love this place and what it has to offer, I also saw that they are expanding and offering more to what they used to have. If your in the area this place is a must to see, it's fantastic to learn and awesome to see. I'll be coming back when I travel up north again since I'm from FL.
Cool looking place
They didnt let us in. It was my birthday.
Awesome cave was a great hour long tour
So Cool!
This was my first experience and I loved it! It was a school trip for my daughters 2nd grade class and I almost think I liked it better than the kids! The cave was very interesting and actually quite cozy. Other then them telling you how far down you are you really don't feel like you are. Definitely will be going again!
This was a fun stop to make in the way to our destination. The gift shop is extensive and they sell interesting things. The outdoor picnic area is available for use and it is clean. The tour was interesting enough, I liked the history. It seemed a bit restricted from the majority of the cave though. I am still waiting for my card to be credited back from a transaction that was supposed to be refunded so hopefully that goes through soon.
A must see for families with school age children.
More then a tourist trap, its the largest cave system in Wisconsin a good place to first experience a cave. They have sanitized their history a of the cave alittle on the tour... they don't point out the site of the old wedding chapel... but all in all if you make a day of the area, worth the price of admission.
Good amount of info provided by guide. Interesting history!
Very cool inside cave
This cave is unique in that it's an excavated cave. That being said, it hasn't had the time that most other caves have had to develop a lot of the neat structures that take hundreds of years to form. It's between 100-200 years old since discovery (in terms of when excavation started, but 485 million years old since origination). But still, it's a marvel, unique unto itself and worth exploring. Our guide was on top of her game, very knowledgeable, and fun. Just remember it's cool down there, so bring a sweatshirt!
Oh my God this was literally the time of our life. The man that did the tour was very informative and didn't make it sound like a class lecture. It was beyond fun and we learned so much! Even the gift shop is phenomenal and the prospecting was such a blast our family bought 4 more bags. I highly recommend doing a package instead of just doing the cave. We thought it was going to be more of an in-out kind of a thing but was easy to make an all day thing out of it without losing any interest which says a lot having a 7 and 9 year old
My 2 boys (3&8) loved it!!! Great upkept facility and very friendly staff. We did the panning after the tour which was lots of fun too! A bit pricey but worth it!
Tee-Rex mini golf was a blast! Many things to do besides the cave tour, very nice gift shop with plenty of interesting and unique items, make sure to take the kids panning for gems or fossils, they'll walk away with a bag of real gemstones!
It was a little pricey for the 3 of us but I got the Mother Load and the cave tour for $80 but it was so worth it. Steve was a great guide.
My wife wanted to visit this so we came from Minneapolis (about an hour drive). This is a very well maintained and creatively designed place: they have a great tour, nice gift shop (not expensive with lots of fun things) and a brand-new dino-golf outside (we didn't play but kids had so much fun fun exploring it!). The green tour (most common) is about an hour and it is chilly (55F) and wet down there, so don't forget your hoodies/jackets and wear comfortable shoes. Our tour guide (Steven) was awesome, he is so knowledgeable about rock types and the history and also very entertaining (my kids who usually run around were paying attention to what he was saying). Even though I didn't expect a lot from the tour because I'm not a big fan of caves, this was a great one - we learned a lot and it was totally worth the drive. There is also a small picnic area outside which is again very clean and well maintained. Highly recommend!
We were just passing through and saw that y'all were near us on our trip so we stopped in. I really like the allure of caves so I had to make the time during our trip. Josh the tour guide was very informative and upbeat.
WOW! The Crystal Caves were last minute detour for us. We thought we were just going through Wisconsin for the cheese but when we stumbled across The Crystal Caves we had to go check them out. They were worth every penny paid. (We also got a cool smooshed penny too) We went on a Monday in June when most are in school, at work, or on other vacations, so we only had 1 other couple in our group. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and encouraged us to take pictures and enjoy the fabulous formations around the cave. Unless you are afraid of dark spaces (it's pretty well lit but they turn off lights behind you as you go) or have difficulty going down or up stairs, this should be a go-to place along your travels. Pros: - Stunning - Educational - Inexpensive - Not far off the main routes through the area Cons: - Not sure if they have anything special for mobility impaired people
Not an enriching environment to work in. "On stage" the employees seem to love their jobs, but there is a lot of drama and negativity in the workplace. The authentication cards in the gift shop are fake, the managers who sign the cards are not real geologists, although the card is signed as a certified geologist. Management lacks communication skills, often taking a micro-managing approach towards employees. Management agrees to schedule changes in advance, yet they do not allow the change once they day comes. Internship employees are not given the experience they need for their degree, and are instead forced to work other areas that are not in their field of study.
Cave wasn't as impressive as I hoped, but was still pretty fun. The kids enjoyed it.
