REVIEWS OF Burr Oak Winery IN Wisconsin

UPDATE: I am amending my previous review. After writing this review, I did hear back from the winery. She graciously offered to replace the bottles that were no good. I received them quickly and although they have not been opened yet, they appear to be fine (although so did the ones that we purchased). I am satisfied with the fact that they finally contacted me (I do not know what the hold up was although it may have been a delay between filling out the online form and them receiving it) and did make it right. I amended my stars to 3 because the wine was good when we had it at the winery and one of the bottles I purchased originally was fine. (ORIGINAL POST BEGINS HERE) I went to this winery with a friend and between the two of us, we purchased six bottles of wine. So far, three of the six bottles have been dumped down the drain. Upon opening the bottles, the corks were coated in crystals and/or black (the blackened cork was from a white wine, so the cork should not have been discolored at all). They also smelled like vinegar and they had definitely turned. We have not opened the remaining three bottles yet, however, I do not hold high hopes for them. Upon trying to contact the winery, I received absolutely no response. We spent around $85.00 there for the six bottles and unfortunately paid cash so we have no recourse against them (such as disputing the charge with the credit card company). Poor wine quality and terrible customer service will keep me from ever going to this winery again, purchasing their wines anywhere or recommending it to anyone. Steer clear of this one. There are plenty of lovely wineries in Wisconsin. Just don't waste your time with this one.

Very cute place. You can see their vineyard when you pull in. The wines are well made and taste great. Definitely gotta visit even if youre not a wine connoisseur. Get you and your S.O. a bottle for a fun night.

I went twice, the second time was the best, Marie was wonderful. The estate wines were the best, the shop was clean and full of neat things. It was such a wonderful experience, if you are within 50 miles, and like wine, dont miss this place! put it in your schedule, you wont be unhappy! Enjoy!

Kea Lien

good wine.

Very unfriendly staff. Cold to customers. Wines actually were good. We did buy 6 bottles but won't go there again because of the attitude of the 2 ladies working there. Treated us like we were intruding on their day.

Stopped there recently, not very friendly, in fact down right rude, purchased a bottle and asked which type of cheese would go good with my wine, got a response of “I don’t know I’m busy “ By the way their cheese selection is terrible, Will not recommend this place to my friends and family

Nice wines at very fair prices. Beautiful setting and would love to see in the summer. Tasting felt a little rushed and I could have used more explanation on the wines.

Had great food with excellent wine yesterday.

My friends and I were having a girls weekend and we stopped in to check it out. It is decorated so nice inside with lots of items for sale. The wine tasting was very descriptive, with a commemorative glass to bring home. Staff were very friendly, polite and accommodating.

Debby Tuchel

Most of wine was just so so didn't really have much of a flavor. The landscaping needed to be taken care of so the appearance would be more pleasing on the outside.

Cory Wilinski

Nice building. The wine was good. The tasting was decent value with different choices. Got to try 8 wines for $5 and keep the glass. Would recommend if in the area.

Kirstyn Joyce

Awesome winery. The woman whom was working really helped me find just what I was looking for. Nice variety of wine. From sweet to dry. Bottles were fairly priced. Beautiful location.

Craig Smith

Wine was excellent but grey hair lady was rude. No sense of humor, and no personalty. When I mentioned about my brother knowing a lot about wine her comment was people think they know about it but really don't. I will guarantee he knows at least as much as she did. We did purchase 3 bottles and never even got a thank you. Won't be back.

Enjoyed our Girls Day at the Burr Oak Winery! We had lots of laughs and the wine was amazing! Love trying new wines that I wouldn't otherwise even think about. Very helpful and friendly staff (owners). $5 for wine tasting and I get to take the glass home as my souvenir. Yes Please!! Thanks again!

We stop in here every time we pass the area on 94. The staff is always great and happy to provide samples. We always leave with a bottle or three!

We stopped on a wine tour. I will never go there again. For some reason the employee or owner didn't care for our business. She did not want to wait on us. The set up was horible. If your doing the trolley tour you need to set up to accommodate that number of guests. Very disappointed with this winery. We were with a bachelorette party and the bride had a tiara on that said "bride to be" and had the audacity to say extremely loud, oh we have someone who thinks she's a princess. Embarrassing for this young lady.

Very pleasant experience, The Castle Rock White was amazing, will definitely stop again to pick up a few more bottles.

This is a beautiful place with a real emphasis and pride in the process and quality of their wine. I liked their red wine produced with an old vine northern French variety best, which is suited to the local climate. Due to roadtrip timing, we got there late and it was pouring rain. We did a quick tasting and bought 3 bottles. Would love to go again when we could take more time and take the tour.

Amy Bushee

The woman that did the wine tasting with us this morning right away when they opened was so friendly! My husband and I had a great time stopping here on our way home to Eau Claire. We bought two bottles!

Joseph Weatherly

Came in RV for the night through Harvest Hosts. Got to do the wine tasting and have a couple glasses of wine and no driving! Loved the place. The "Wandering Weatherly's"

Delores Meyers

A wonderful winery. Great wines. You can't go wrong joining their case club.

Christa Thompson

Felt a bit rushed even though there were only 3 other people. Great explanation of the wines. Nice building/establishment.

C Cahill

I had a similar experience with the grey haired lady as reviewer Craig Smith. She was rude and turned me off from the place. When we walked into the winery store near closing time, the doors were still open and the store was crowded with customers, she walked up to us as we were browsing at merchandise and very curtly said, "We are closing". I had been interested in purchasing wine, but was basically chased out. The buildings, vines, outdoor seating area and store are beautiful, but don't expect friendly, Midwestern charm and service from the grey haired lady.

Chris

I made the mistake of going without reading the review first. The bad service made me do this search and leave my review. Ditto on everything below. I find it odd that you only get to sip two wines. I personally won't blindly buy a wine without tasting it. She let me try three and made a point about that the limit was two. So I bought 3 bottles. If I was to try more I would have bought more. Odd place.

Dennis Lynn

Wine was bad. Had to slam it, now I have courage to write the review. My wine loving fiancé couldn't get past the smell of the wine and couldn't finish. Also, like others have said, the grey haired lady was rather rude, and didn't seem to want us there.

Kim Wedemeier

We arrived to mud for a parking lot. Yes it spring but more gravel would be nice. The building was a nice old brick. Very quaint. Our hostess was impolite. We were greeted with with these are your tasting options then told I will take you 10.00 now!!!!! It felt like she thought we weren't going to pay. It would of been nice to roll it all into one payment after buying wine etc. Not two separate bills. You were told to choose all 8 samples asap. Then whites at one bar and now grab your stuff and move to another bar for red tasting. The hostess at the red bar was very polite and nice. We bought a bottle only because she was so nice.

Ruth Piper

They were knowledge and very friendly.

I stopped here with my fiance for a the WI coop winery tour. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was very courteous. While our sampler was not very talkative, she was very polite and kind to accommodate us despite being late getting their and staying past close. The Wines were good, and it was nice to get a free flight with the purchase of a bottle.

I drive through the Burr Oak winery about every time I cross Wisconsin. It is an easy stop from I94/I90, and it is a lovely way to unwind as I make my way between Minneapolis and Detroit. I love the ambiance, the smell of the storeroom, the company (I usually meet the owner, too), and naturally the wine. The cheese selections, sweets, and other gifts are fun, too. I pick up a case of assorted wines for gifts and my own use when I come home. The Burr Oak winery also have lovely Summer festivals and Winter dinners. Good clean fun. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Close to lots of other fun activities, too.

Just a beautiful and peaceful place. Their wine selection was very good and better than the other fine wineries in the area due to their years of experience and the use of their own grapes to make of their wines. Terry was very nice and her hospitality has very nice to is all. She even allowed us to walk thru the vineyard and taste the grapes. Big selection to choose from and they ship to your home, only purchased 4 bottles only cause I purchased 4 at other wineries and I had to carry with me on the plane. Definitely will be ordering from their website in the future.

Cheryl Falk

Excellent place, friendly people and the owner is a great wine maker.

Frances Bauman

Love this place. Friendly staff and their wine is exceptional. If you are a wine person and your visiting the Mauston/New Lisbon area I highly recommend you visit Burr Oak Winery.

tom russo

We enjoy the cranberry wine!

DeadHeadTed37

They were rude, the women called me a name dropper when I asked if they had anything like another popular vineyard. She then asks what other winery's I have been to in the area and then proceeded to bad mouth them and say how much better their wine is from the others. I don't need to go back.

Glenn Wilson

The wine was delicious and the staff friendly. Very nice store. The views are noce. Parked right on the edge of the vineyard.

Very nice facility. Easy parking. Nice shop with lots of interesting wares. Excellent, knowledgeable wine tasting. Qty discounts on the wines.

Lisa Tucker

My husband and I have been there a couple times. We drive 2 hrs to get there and it's worth it. The place is gorgeous and the wine selection is phenomenal! He likes red and I like white and we leave there with many bottles in the car. The service and knowledge about wine was both refreshing and very interesting. Can't leave out the gift shop either!
