REVIEWS OF Lost World Caverns IN West Virginia

Pamela Shoup

There are a lot of nice formations. There are also lots of steps and dripping water so you need to be somewhat nimble to take a tour. Awesome place for kids and amateur explorers. Good railings and handholds.

Craig Y

A self guided tour so you can take your time. Not the largest cavern but it is nice. The building at the entrance had a surprising amount of historical items that relate to fossils and dinosaurs.

Groves Grace

We loved the caverns! Great place to take your grandchildren very nice gift shop!

Harleys Skeptic

Amazing I went on a field trip

Monte Huwyler

Great family spot. Well maintained with friendly staff. Beautiful formations.

Freddie Collins

BRING A VERY BRIGHT FLASHLIGHT ! Bring a light for everyone if you really want to enjoy it! Great place to visit! We really loved exploring the caves. You can take your time and go as slow or as fast as you want. It is a walk and a lot of stairs so wear shoes that will not slip on wet surfaces! Also bring a jacket because it is 52 degrees inside!

James McLendon

Impressive formations visible from easily accessible, self-guided, walking tour. Owner, Steve, is friendly and knowledgeable.

Francisco Oliveira

Good infrastructure and beautiful formations in the cave, but it is a 30 min tour, maybe a hour if you make it slowly. Tours are self guided and they provide a flashlight if you want. Heard that they have other tour options for those who want to get more deep in the cave, but equipments are required and it is done with a guide.

Angela Ward

Wonderful! So much fun!

Michael Mykita

Interesting natural history / geological phenomenon.

Ronald Adkins

Its beautiful. History in the making. What you will see is history dating back 500000 years in these unique cave formations. There are fossils to view in the gift shop.

branditurpin101090

Very beautiful and fun to go through! Lots of wonderful souvenirs as well!

Toni Pensule

A lot of fun for the whole family! Very nice, informative staff!

Wayne Walk Jr

Love the self guided tour, first time doing that.

Katherine Meredith

We had a lovely time at Lost World Caverns. The cavern is a little smaller than we expected but very neat. The steps to me looked a little rickety and are definitely not accessible to people who are not able bodied. In addition to the cavern there is a museum from the prehistoric eras showcasing bones and fossils and a shop with novelties, some fossils, and gems. The staff was friendly and sent us on our way into the cavern with a flashlight, as the tour is not guided. All the formations are marked with historical information. The cavern is lighted, the flashlight is mostly for looking up or down at formations not easily lit by electric lights.

Grant Broadhurst

Great value. Many of the formations are very impressive, although clearly the cave is less pristine than others in the area (Luray, Seneca, Shenandoah). It's also not as large (length-wise) as those, and neither does it feature small spaces (which I like). HOWEVER, the main benefit here is that it's self-guided. But wait, don't you want a guide? No. Not in this case. Self-guided means you can take all the time you want in the caves. You can sit and soak it in. You can snap lots of photos. You can just feel the cave around you. If you're a solo traveler, you can experience the cave alone. It's great! I recommend seeing another cavern or two (like Shenandoah or Luray or even Seneca) to learn the cave knowledge first. That will help increase your enjoyment!

slicedude

Nice little cave experience for $35 for the 3 of us. It's self guided and has alot of walking and steps so that makes it a bit less appealing to me. It was pretty nice though!!

Manivannan Srinivasan

It's good place for quick visit. Location is good and it's few miles away from highways area. Cave is good enough to look . Not too big and not too small. There is no reatarurent.

Pamela Shoup

There are a lot of nice formations. There are also lots of steps and dripping water so you need to be somewhat nimble to take a tour. Awesome place for kids and amateur explorers. Good railings and handholds.

The Lewis family

Really cool experience for the whole family. Would go back and do it all over again. The kids loved it. Took about 45 min to go all the way thru.

Dannille Freshour

Wonderful experience for the family. Definitely worth the trip.

Doug Moten

Hadn't been there in several years. Just as much fun as I remember...

Tracey Spencer McCarty

Grandkids visiting from SC loved it. Not far off I64 so is convenient and the self guided tour only takes appx 1 1/2 hrs. Price is fair

Susan Phillips

My mom's family is from White Sulfur Springs WV. Whenever we visit we always try to make it to Lost World Caverns. I have visited Lost World Caverns at least ten times. I love the owners who are friendly and knowledgeable. The owners have two beautiful labordors who are are always enjoying a good nap. I love how you can walk through the cave in less than an hour but still feel like your Experience was awesome. The gift shop offers a wide variety of very cool rocks, Crystals and jewelry at reasonable prices. I can not say enough good things about Lost World Caverns. If you are in the area you should definitely pay it a visit. You will throughly enjoy yourself.

Bryce Caster

Incredible cave with large formations! The tour is self-guided and takes about 30-60 minutes. You will be impressed.

wvmountainmomma91

The staff was very rude to myself and my 7 year old. The caverns are obviously a little chilly so a light jacket may be a good idea. Wear good shoes and comfy clothes as the journey is about 45 minutes through the caverns. The establishment is nice, the caverns are beautiful but I highly doubt we will go back.

Gr8ful JuJu

Awesome caverns. Nice gift shop. About 45 minutes of entertainment. Entrance to cave opening is inside gift store. A ramp and a few steps and your at the entrance of the cave.

Tessa F

Great self guided tour which was exactly what we wanted. Not many people on the day we went and we were able to move through the cavern at our own pace. They also have a nice gift shop and museum area. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable!

driver ozz

Fun place to go and take kids over 4. Probably wouldn't be fun carrying smaller children thru the cave though. Would recommend and do it again.

chris Bonner

Like a step back in time. I'm a cave junkie can't drive by one without going. An this one's definitely fun.

Davin George

Liam and Connor were our guides. They were awesome. Best guides. Caves are intense. Takes a little bit of stamina and a lot of determination, but the wild tour is worth it for an adventure of a lifetime.

peaches Mann

This place is really breathtaking

Taylor Ressler

It was amazing!!! Well worth the money, everything was beautiful!

Lillie M

Great experience. Hard on old hops though.

Grant Morris

Great afternoon trip. Keep in mind you have to walk back up

KingTut559

Amazing place, amazing staff. If you can do 55 stairs you can go into a huge cathedral sized cavern full of massive stalagmites and stalactites, along a well lit smooth concrete wall way. Lots of history and information on plaques or you can just marvel at the geologic formations to hearts content, all for a very reasonable price. If you feel adventureous you can hop the fence off the trail on a 4 hour intense guided tour through rest of the cave, were you have to army crawl through by the light on your helmet. The guides make this tour very doable and comfortable, and if your up for it I would highly recommend (my 53 year old mother who very adventurous did it). An amazing experience! The pictures don't do justice, but here are some shots.

John Pearson

Pretty cool place. I'm glad it does not require a guided tour for the main trail. Although there is a 1.5 mile guided tour deep in to the cave I would like to go back and try that

Selena Hickman

Awesome! Purchasing tickets online was easy peasy, the location was easy to find, and the place was very cool!

Katy Tincher

I took our high school travel club to visit and my students loved it!

Matthew Burcham

Great place with knowledgeable people. Great help finding the rocks and minerals we needed. Fun cave to walk through. You get to go at your own pace which we loved.

Bridgett Baharloo

Cool trip for adults or kids.

Melissa Raddatz

We did the wild cave tour with Connor and had a fantastic time exploring the caverns. He was great and very knowledgeable also helping us navigate certain obstacles if we had any difficulty. The cave itself is a must see in lewisburg. If your able bodied I highly reccommend this tour.

Aida G

Fantastic place. Awe inspiring on what nature can create. Wear comfortable rubber sole shoes.

Tiffany Puff

Absolutely gorgeous cave, fun for the whole family

Live Love Grow

Awesome place, courteous staff.

Corinne F.

Amazing family experience!

Zeap

The glowstone is absolutely beautiful

Carrie Workman

Great price for the experience.

Carl Hodges

The cave is awesome, and the gift shop has some gorgeous crystals and such.

Heather Ayers

I loved it. It is a self paced and self guided tour. The walk wasnt too long nor too short. Gives you plenty of time to look and walk at your own pace. Helpful and nice staff. Cute giftshop.

leslie hackman

Breathtaking. Perfect stop to break up a long drive

Gillian Schmillian

Be your own tour guide! Take your time, see the sights and read the signs at your own speed. Not too many stairs and the footing is mostly even.

Kathleen Redon

Now that was an amazing place to see it was so big so cool lots of stairs but well worth it and very nice people that own it ! Steve ❤️

Donald Baucom

Very nice visit. Loved seeing the caverns

Daniel Calvillo

Very cool to see all the rock formations and underground cavern. There are informative signs inside about the history and to help you understand what it is you are looking.

Matthew Pyle

It was amazing I was able to take my time walking..took several breaks due to injuries I have to stop a rest frequently... took a lot of pictures of the amazing formation. It was just beautiful

George Carrick

Great place. Loved the self-guided tours. Staff is wonderful and full of knowledge. Even let us use a flashlight! Wonderful selection of rocks and minerals!

Christine Roberson Phipps

Such a cool place to explore! Very strenuous.

Adam Slide

We took the kids here while traveling through and we all really enjoyed the caverns. This was the first caverns we've ever been to but it was pretty awesome, more impressive than I expected. It's a guided tour that takes about 45 minutes. Our kids are ages 9, 6, 4, and almost 2 and they didn't have any trouble going through the entire thing. Being able to go at your own pace was cool, but we were also thinking it would be nice to have a tour guide to explain more about the formations and answer questions and stuff. So the next time we go to a cavern we'll probably try a different one with a tour guided. There was a lot of stuff in the gift shop (candy, food, rock gifts and items, clothes, etc.). The employees were really nice too.

Lynnette Baptista

Definitely an adventure. The staff was really friendly. The cost was pretty inexpensive(12$ a person). I also liked that the tour was self guided and we could explore at our own pace.

Angela Prichard

Beautiful area, not expensive, kid friendly.

Valerie Huggins

Been here 3 times it's worth the money

megan bonner

Great price, love that it's self guided so you can take your time to enjoy the beauty of the cave

Shelby Stark

My boyfriend and I did the wild cave tour with Steve and it was INCREDIBLE. Steve was an amazing guide and paid great attention to our individual needs, our safety, provided great conversation, and made the trip well worth it. The caving itself was a blast. The photos Steve took were great. I cannot recommend this tour more!

Wilma Anderson

It's so pretty! I took lots of pictures and loved the plaque facts they post throughout the caverns. Make sure you wear anti slip shoes, it was pretty wet down in the caverns and it's mostly stairs going up and down.

Heather Sifers

This place is amazing and so cheap. Well worth every penny. If you luck up like I did and get the cave to yourself, you'll experience an amazing calm as you listen to the water trickling down the cave walls. A MUST SEE.

Carl Ferguson

Awesome self guided tour! Great for families, but make sure to bring a coat as it's a bit chilly once you're underground.

Buck Carter

Well worth the time and entrance fee. Extraordinary self-guided tour, amazing sights. Take a jacket, it's 52 degrees down there!

jennifer lively

This place is awesome. You can go on the tour of the cave and if you are feeling adventurous they even have a deeper cave trek that comes with lunch (reservations required). They sell all sorts of gems, minerals, fossils, and kits. It's crazy to see the beauty our world has created. They sell bags of gems n such that you can take outside to the water and discover your own gems and usually shark teeth. I love it!

Melissa Williams

Absolutely a must see! The self guided tour was amazing. They send you with a flashlight although its not needed. One of the prettiest cave systems i have ever seen.

Krista Galloway

Nice, great history and stories

Larro

If your in the area I highly recommend!

Jason Buchanan

The owners are very accommodating with large tour groups. Very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. Even the staff is well informed, and if they don't know an answer to a question, they will find someone who does. Great selection of minerals, other gifts, and toys for sale for both families and individuals passing through. They also have a cabinet of brochures for other activities in the area, which is really great for planning the rest of your vacation. Formations are all very excellent and in a highly concentrated area. It inspires you to want to explore more caves and caverns to see what other kinds of beauty blossom below the Earth's surface. Outdoor picnic area is plentiful and very scenic. The gravel road is a little disarming, but quaint. Makes you really feel like it's a Lost World you're stumbling into, but it can't be that secluded, because they've got a great music selection in the gift shop! There's even a collection of fossils and casts of fossils for us science types who like to take a glance back in time when dinosaurs and trilobites lorded over our earthly domain. Great for children and adults. They even have gem mining!

Odie Mongeni

Wonderful and informative place!

Jarita Zabrieszack

Beautiful! There is alot of walking involved with stairs going down and back up. It is about 55 degrees so for the colder natured people make sure to take a sweater.

Kimberly Toney

Loved this guy too.

David Dickenson

Love the send guided tour. Very beautiful!

Robert Hill

Awesome caves. Great way to see mother batures handiwork.

David Massa

They say this cavern is only a hour but I got lost in there for about 3 and ended up on the wrong time period. At least I dont have to worry about out the black lung anymore. Would do it again but not looking to go further into the future...

Kent Karlsson

It's a nice walk through the cave and lots to see. It's a little slippery in places so be careful. They let you borrow a flashlight if you don't have one but you really don't need it as the cave is well lit. Pictures don't do it justice. This is nice to do on a hot day since it's always in the 50s in the cave. The gift shop had plenty of things and reasonably priced.

BlackEarth Java

A flat tire left us with time to kill, and thankfully Google led us to this amazing cave! I love that it's a self guided tour. We've been to other caves and this is by far our favorite. What a happy find! Be sure to stop and read all the detailed signs, & be ready to walk up & down stairs (but if I can do it, so can most people). Bring the kids. There's even a picnic area our front. Do not bring dogs, as no other dogs allowed except the one that lives there. For the first time I got to feel the calcite. Photos do not do this justice. You just have to see it! A lot of time and effort has been put into this place, and it's well worth going!

Kimberly Warner

So much beauty in a hidden place. Didn't know what to expect but was worth the trip. We did the self tour and everyone enjoyed themselves. The gift shop has so much to offer. The staff is friendly and courteous. Makes you forget about the real world for a while.

Myra Harper

Excellent adventure! Definitely worth the trip and minimal cost! Beautiful short drive from the interstate… Outstanding hospitality and service from a very knowledgeable owner and staff. The walk was easy and very manageable for a 60 year old and infant… Took about an hour with frequent stops to gaze in wonder and read the information sheets. Will definitely go again and recommend to all friends and family.

Tim Carpenter

Wanted to try something different and this was awesome. The self guided tour was at your pace and you could take all the photos you wanted. There was no pressure in the gift shop and they even provided you with flashlights. The gift shop also had a great informative section on dinosaurs and local history. Really great family place!

Michele Syner

Staff always go above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

Jonathan Seel

Staff was so friendly and the experience in the caves are very fascinating and cool.

Kyle Anschuetz

We had an excellent time exploring the cave! It’s 12$ per adult (2019). They did offer veteran and first responder discounts at 10% off. The view are amazing and quite a treat. Don’t forget to bring a sweatshirt and long pants, as it’s 50 degrees in the cave!

Seth Kaplan

Second visit in 2 years and still a lot of fun. Wonderful staff and interesting gift shop with dinosaur fossils.

William Miller

People were extremely friendly. The tour was self guided, so you were able to spend all the time you wanted on things that interested you. Gift shop was reasonably priced. They had other tours where you crawled through muddy tight places. I saw some people coming out and they seemed to have had a great time. I will consider it for another day.

Jim Henry

We really enjoyed the tour. Cave was excellent.

Will Lewis

All of the staff are super friendly and know the formations well. The owner works there and is a really cool guy to talk to. The dogs are cool too!

Nelson McClung

Great place for a COOL trip. Self guided

Great self guided tour (extended guided available). Extremely friendly staff. Sweater and jeans recommended. Worth the trip.

David Dufrene

Cool place. Lots of exciting. Didn't get to do the extended tour but plan on going back to do it

Lorry Thiel

Priced right and fun!!

Myra Harper

Michelle Moore

Such a cool place! Clearly marked trail makes it easy and safe to explore!

M S

VERY cool, and informative. 6yo and 3yo LOVED it, as did I :) hope to visit again!!

billy cook

Awesome tour. Took my 8th grade class to tour the caverns. We all had a great time. Tour guides were very knowledgeable. Very large gift shop with unique items that are very affordable. If your in the area you don't want to miss this attraction!

Angie Slater

This makes a wonderful family trip!! Not expensive and and beautiful scenery. They have a gift shop and animals to see, not to mention the dinasour exhibit. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

Cori Silvester

Our family really enjoyed the self-guided 45 min tour. You were able to go at your own pace and the price was great for that type of adventure. We really enjoyed our time here.

A Winter

It's ok, structure is not easy to walk

Jason Ross

Great trip down to the caverns. It is so beautiful. Very adventurous to see everything that is down there, learn about the life that lives in the cavern, and how the caverns have started and changed.

Kim I

Definitely worth a stop. You have to take some narrow winding roads out of town to get there, but the cave is neat and the kids enjoyed running around outside

Casey Bailey

Lovely self guided cavern tour. Approximately 45 mins at a minimum, but you can take as much time as you like in it! Bring a lite sweater if you get cold easily. Highly suggest this place!

Chelsey Elizabeth

Highly recommended! It's a self-guided tour so you're welcome to go at your own pace. There are plenty of signs along the way with fun facts and myths about the cave. We took about an hour. Some places are steep and/or have an incline that might be difficult for very young or elderly but I think most age ranges won't have any difficulty. I thought the gift shop was very well stocked and there's a souvenir for every price range. There's also a nice area with picnic tables and llamas and horses to check out.

Patty Pomeroy

Wonderful people! I visit the gift shop often! Very friendly!

Zenaida Chandler

Fantastic cavern. Some of the staff are very friendly, some are more involved in their own conversations to be helpful. Luckily we were able to interact with a very knowledgeable and friendly person who worked there and prepped us for our tour. The gift shop is very cute as well. Definitely worth a one time visit.

Karen Vickers

First of all beautiful day. Second, awesome! I took my niece, nephew and my daughter down there for a day of fun in Lewisburg and the Lost Caverns was definitely the best way to start it out. The kids loved the gift shop, of course, but loved the fact we went into the cave by ourselves. Will definitely be back.

Sharon Kulp

The views were awesome, the walk is diffently not for someone over weight and out of shape. Lots of steep steps.

Marc Burdiss

One of the most beautiful caverns we have ever been to. Helpful hint: Bring a flashlight on this self guided tour underground. They will provide one, but if the power goes, everyone will want one. Ohh and Bat Boy was found here.

Sivakumar Dhandapani

This was my first ever time to visit any caverns and amazed with all Crystal Rocky formations. It takes 45 minutes to walk around entirely!

Meredith Carpenter

Awesome self guided tour. I enjoyed this more than having a tour guide.

Sarah Schooley

Awesome trip, so worth the money! Not expensive, fun for all ages! Staff was incredibly nice, really cool gift shop. We have ages 16 months to 59 years old everyone had a great time! Must check it out

Alan Bonifas

Very nice little tourist destination

Tracy Wagner

Never been to a cavern before. This was an amazing experience to see!

Skip Graham

The Wild Cave Tour is 4 hours of amazement. I think it is one of the most incredible experiences possible. If you have teenagers, especially boys, this may be one of their greatest lifelong memories. My wife and I are in our early 50's and had a great time too.

Christine Hill

We love it there it was a play were. We could go back there again and again it was a good place to go to if you never been there be fore go to it it is a great place to go to 5 stars review

Trista Simmons

Super fun, self-guided tour. The cavern is beautiful & fascinating. They have little plaques of information next to the most interesting features. I especially love that you're free to take your time, go at your own pace & spend as much time in the cavern as you like!

Terilee Arrasmith

We visited and went through the cavern earlier today. It was pretty amazing to see the various formations created by dropping water. Awesome items in the store as well. We recommend trying it. Bring our buy a hoodie!

Christopher Gamache

Fun place to visit. It is totally safe. Don't be afraid. I would not want to be someone who needs a cane to walk through here. Lots of stairs but totally stable. The most incredible thing I learned is that the sediment deposits form the water trickling in the cave accumulate at 1 cubic inch every 100-125 years. There are formations that are 30 feet tall and 4+ feet in diameter. At 1 cubic inch every 125 years you can see how it would take millions of year for this to get the way it is today. Incredible! Worth the visit.

Loreece Muehleisen

Beautiful site with friendly service. Nice shop with lots of merchandise. Easy walk through of the caverns that are well lite. Bring a jacket.

Chris J

Well worth the detour on my road trip, and a welcome break from the summer heat.

Shontay Lane

Great staff. Really friendly. Staff great and we're so helpful and and warm and seemed happy to have us. Gift shop is inexpensive. Kids liked out door animals and neat to see inside cavern. Outside county like look. Cave was earthly.

Das Milch

Loved the tour, the guide was very funny.

Lori Richmond

An amazing place to visit! Beautiful scenery and rich history about the area and formations. Friendly atmosphere, super cute gift shop full of a variety of gorgeous items ranging from early childhood to geriatric. This is a great little adventure for the whole family to enjoy together.

Jeff Rickman

Incredible place to stop and visit. Well lit and beautiful show cave. Very affordable. Great place to take the whole family. You can spend an hour or more just looking around in the gift shop, and another hour walking the grounds. There were even some animals. The staff are very friendly.

Israel Martinez

Cool place to visitand explore

Tammy Sampson

It was very steep and slippery in places. It is self-guided but if you drop something its gone. Not a walk in the park. Colored lights play up the formations. Staff very helpful and informative. An interesting place.

puppylover J

Awesome place! The caves were so much fun for my kids! We bought a crystal from the gift shop!

Leslie Fennell

Great place! This building is kind of off the road in between houses, so dont be afraid! Building is very big, the cavern is beautiful and you go on self guided tours. That sounded scary at first but was great and better than the guided tours at other caverns. There are lots of signs so theres no way of getting lost. Be careful! There are so many steps, very uneven and a mix of cement and stone. Very fun and a huge gift shop! So fun for all ages!

Marlene Gilkerson

Great outing for a family. There was a family with two children (about 6 & 8), an elderly couple my family including me who is older and overweight. We all made it with no issues. It was beautiful.

Ernie Herring

See all the rock formations stuff and leave out the crowds

river rose

Love it! There gift shop is do nice. They have the best gems for my crafts.

Sheila Hale

We had a great time. Very interesting.

Todd Babcock

Great Cavern tour!! Very beautiful!!

Jim Finan

Its a self guided 30-45 min tour. Its interesting, lots of neat formations. Is not .. motorcycle friendly entrance. Appx 1.5 mi dirt, rock, rutted road. If I knew in advance I would not have gone.

Dwain Landers

Loved it. Took my wife for our 16 anniversary. We both had a great time

Sarah Cofer

My husband and I came to West Virginia for a long weekend to visit the caves, and Lost World Caverns was amazing! I recommend doing the wild cave tour. This cave had so many beautiful formations. This was by far our favorite cave, and cave enthusiasts should definitely plan a trip to visit here! :)

Scotty Hotty

Really great way to spend an afternoon exploring these beautiful and interesting caves. Great for familys...

Trista Simmons

Super fun, self-guided tour. The cavern is beautiful & fascinating. They have little plaques of information next to the most interesting features. I especially love that you're free to take your time, go at your own pace & spend as much time in the cavern as you like!

Nice place to visit to while away an hour or so.

Allie VanZanten

This cavern is awesome! The self-guided tour allows for whatever pace learning you like, and the information provided is very interesting!

Michaela Jarrell

Super fun and educational! Our boys had such a good time. The staff was so friendly, it was refreshing. The gift shop also has the best prices I've ever encountered, they really want you to be able to take a piece of lost world with you. I highly recommend stopping in the area for an hour or so to support them and experience something different. Thanks Lost World Caverns for having us and being so welcoming :)

Thomas Lyall

A stunning display if the regions karst geology. The operators are wonderful on answering questions after the tour, which is done at your own pace. A true WV gem

Terilee Arrasmith

We visited and went through the cavern earlier today. It was pretty amazing to see the various formations created by dropping water. Awesome items in the store as well. We recommend trying it. Bring our buy a hoodie!

Angela Hudson

Eric Lintemuth

Awesome, good price. Pleasant place!

Anthony R. Pompa

Me and a friend booked Wild Cave Tour last Thursday. This was our first time caving and our expectations were fullfilled not even an hour into the tour . The entire staff was a delight , and our tour guide Jonathan was AWESOME. Super knowledgeable, able to answer any question, and fun to be around. The tour was surprisingly a moderate challenge and is a great experience for all ages. After 4 hours of being the in cave, they fed us a delicious home cooked lunch. It was so good ! Thanks again Jonathan !!

Jess

Awesome place to go explore
