The fort itself is just a tiny piece of the entire historical Harpers Ferry area but worth a visit to realize that this is the spot where one the catalysts that led to the Civil War began.

Cool Historical Building

Wade Lehmann

Interesting place to wander around and see the old layout. Still much of the original worn stone that made up the steps and buildings. More impressive, to me, is the view back down on this area from the MD Heights hike that climbs the steep hill east across the river.

John Carrico

This has been moved from it's original spot, but it's amazing to see it in person.

Escobaria Gracilis

Nice historical landmark in Harper's Ferry. Well maintained.

I saw this fort it looks like a fire department historic fort jhon brown raid 185? 2017

Tom Coates

It's a must see on a Harper's Ferry trip. Not much to it. Spend your 10 minutes, take a few photos, and go walk the railroad bride into Maryland along the Applachain Trail.

Michael Hassur

Historic, but not much to see.

Sam Odle

Fascinating history for such a small building (I didn’t know it was disassembled and moved to Chicago for a time!) - not much to do here other than observe the architecture and read the plaque, but this is a must see for history buffs.

Fantastic to see an event that was a precursor to the Civil War. Beautiful town, and the view from The Point is truly sublime.

Historic building dating from 1848. It's where anti-slavery advocate John Brown was captured during his raid of Harpers Ferry, said to be one of the events that sparked the American Civil War. The building's original location is a mere 150 feet away. It was transported to Chicago for the 1891 Expo and to its current location in 1968.

Claude Revely

Historically represented and informative.

Harper's Ferry is so lovely. We like to go and hike around and get ice cream. They used to have a sit down restaurant with a good menu but it is closed and another opened in it place. I don't remember the names but now the food is more like sandwiches, burgers and bar food. Nothing special. However, we like to pack picnic lunches and eat outside overlooking the water anyways.

There was so much to see here for old town enthusiasts, Civil War buffs, and hikers. I would highly recommend planning to spend a minimum of 4 hours here. Most everything is very walkable.

Eric Williams

Incredible historic site that played an important role in leading the country to the Civil War. It's one thing to read about it in books and see it in movies (like Santa Fe Trail). To be able to actually see it in person and touch it, AMAZING!!!!!

Dale Robertson

Such a significant place in American history.

If you are in need of some history or want to dive into army tactic rabbit holes.. this is a great spot to start. Small town, lots of history per square footage, and beautiful view of the rivers. You can easily hike or bike here if you have nothing to do for a day.

Very educational.
