The experience at Michie tavern was amazing. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have an amazing experience and they serve some of the best fried chicken and black eyed peas I have ever had in my life. The peach cobbler and ice cream was a very yummy and to our meal. I definitely recommend you to have a meal here if your in the area and they also have some nice shops to browse after your meal.

Bevan Vanderhill

The pub is great! Lots of wine and beer/cider choices, the decor is fun, the menu is goodd and there are lots of games scattered around to play. The menu is reasonably priced. We had the country ham buns. It would be a nice place to have a party too

Donny Walton

Walked up to the entrance. Talked to the cosplayer outside the door. Saw the prices on the menu posted outside. Walked back to the car and went to Chipotle.

Thurman Haas

This place has the BEST fried chicken in VA

miss lea

i haven't been here since 1992 but i will NEVER forget this meal or this wonderful place! I pray for the day I can afford to drive back to it!! missing the food here ALWAYS!!!

siane tucker

Great food & friendly staff. Love the old world charm.

KpopVlogsYEET

The atmosphere was really nice and the food was delicious.

Douglas Puryear

Great southern style food in a historic venue.

Randy G

Great buffet with nice period atmosphere. A most visit after walking around Thomas Jefferson's estate all day. They have the same options everyday so it doesn't matter what day you go.

Daniel Mazeau

Very cool property, best fried chicken I've had. Great stop after seeing 'ol Tommy's house.

Sharon D

An interesting place for a buffet lunch which consisted of coleslaw, stewed tomatoes, blackeyed peas, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits and cornbread, barbecue and fried chicken. Everything was superbly seasoned and it was all you can eat. Drinks and desserts can be had for an extra charge. After lunch you can walk it off climbing the very steep hills (the restaurant and shops are snuggled into the side of a mountain) and shopping the cute shops along the way to your car. We spent an enjoyable early spring afternoon in the area.

W. Dennis Sorrell

A very nice meal with so much history around it.

Hojji san

Food is very filling and tasty and priced just right. Nice atmosphere. Staff is very friendly.

Jacque Cooper

Very friendly and informative staff! Great selection of local beers and good small pub bites. Charming and fun location, we sat in the game room with period specific games!

Jessica Turner

Excellent southern homestyle cooking. This place is a small buffet. Separate dessert menu. Peach cobbler is freaking AMAZING! Fast, friendly service is provided by staff wearing period clothing. When you're ready for more, just ask! Plenty of parking. Several gift shops on-site. One kid 6 and under eats free with a paying adult. Fried chicken is so good! Best in Cville. All the food is delicious!

RICHARD JONES

Discovered this last year. This is our 5th visit. Great buffet. Very friendly. Save time to visit the other buildings.

Eva Burke

A very cool buffet style casual eatery in an historic tavern. The pulled pork, baked or fried chicken, and side dishes were scrumptious. We also enjoyed shopping for souvenirs, handcrafted items, local artwork, and metal works. A relaxing, enjoyable afternoon in lovely Charlottesville, Virginia.

Chester Arnold

Great food! Little gal taking care of us was precious.

Kelly Merrell

We went there due to history online. When you arrive staff is in period costumes. You go into Tavern and Buffet ONLY. They have choices of beer, wine by the bottle, soda or bottled soda and bottled water. Food was just amazing. 2nd helping is served by staff. Meal was $19+drinks+dessert +gratuities +tax. Only sodas and cider from the tap are 1 free refill. Definitely would go there again. They have 4 gift shops and the view is gorgeous. The staff treats you like family.

Matt Schaffner

Loved our lunch at the Michie! The food was fabulous, filling, & well priced. Service was amazing as they took great care of every need & treated us like family. Well worth the stop- especially their local ale selection!

Brian Manion

Great place, beautiful interior, definately will be back.

Amber Conner

It was a really neat place to visit and the food was good, but I really don't think $19 for the buffet per adult is worth it.

Steve Arrington

Great food and service. Great historic site

Morganne Guinther

We drive an hour out of our way to go to Michie Tavern. Absolutely delicious food.

Vincent Pulizzi

Good food, loved the building and the old wood beams. Basically what I'm saying is the ambiance was fantastic and I loved the gift shops, didn't have time to do the tour but definitely want to next time. I recommend this if your in the area, you will enjoy it.

Ike Reid

Soup was delicious first time I ever ate ice cold soup

Kevin Keeney

Delicious fried chicken and fixins. Moderately overpriced, but worth it for a treat. The shops are fun to poke around in as well.

Greg Gowens

Buffet style! My favorite! And the pulled pork is delicious! The trip was worth it for the meal alone. We are planning a trip again in a few months so this will be on the itinerary for that trip as well. This place is a must see! Highly recommended!!

David Sherwood

I give it 2stars for the site itself which preserves 1700's look and feel. However, the food was so-so, the beer selection limited and bottled and the meal was quite expensive.

Huong Nguyen

A quaint restaurant in a historical town, friendly & attentive staffs who dress in colonial outfits

Ashley Pratt

Great atmosphere and delicious food! Perfect place to stop for lunch when exploring Virginia and a bit of our nation's history!

Lisa Tranter

Food is average, makes me wonder what people eat to rate this higher. Tourist trap! Once fee for buffet them additional charge for dessert. You can only view the original tavern, but in early June will be opening the original tavern as a tavern. Might be worth the stop then. I mean advertise as a tavern, then be a tavern. The large white building has been built around the tavern but gotta save them somehow. Certainly a typical tour bus, trinket shop stop. Go onto Moticello as that is with your time!

Howard H

Historic tavern ambiance with old-fashioned sevice buffet all-you-can-eat delicious old fashioned style cooking

Beverly Dean

What a fun place and food was excellent!

Tamie Heaton

This food was delicious and we are pretty picky. My favorite was the green beans. They were fresh with bacon and great flavor. The ambience was really cool too. The only option is a buffet so I only gave it 4 stars. I would have preferred to just order a smaller amount.

Larry Eichinger

Pretty nifty place. Wait staff was knowledgeable on drinks offered.

Jeb Hoge

Great buffet with historic context and attentive service. My wife thinks it's the best fried chicken she's ever had. It's definitely top-notch. The baked chicken is also extremely good, and the sides are delicious. Also, it's a buffet, and reasonably priced at that. What a great way to conclude a vacation visiting historical locations in central Virginia!

Nathan Franke

The food was delicious and the price was less than expected. Service is like a pre-Revolution K&W. Some tables have good views of the mountains, and some are near windowless but have the 1770 atmosphere. It's worth the trip.

Aaron Hackett

Classy and delicious. An absolute just see if you enjoy history at all. Everyone that works there is dressed in revolution era clothing. Be sure to check out the gift shop but watch out for the gag laser pointers that shock you!

Mike Shields

Very good fried chicken. Southern buffet.

Sally Manages

Treated well. Beer was cold and loved the pewter mugs it was served in. Our server found us a seat on the porch to enjoy the sites. Everyone we met talked and didn't mumbled and grunt. Loved the atmosphere.

Chris Swallow

Some really good southern cooking in a really cool atmosphere. You can easily spend a couple of hours eating, visiting the shops and taking in the history of the place. Well worth the visit!

Benjamin Raske

Come hungry, and early. Try to get in before the tour buses. Fun to walk around after gorging on the delicious fried chicken and various sides. Let the staff bring you seconds if the place is busy, they try to keep foot traffic manageable in the food serving area.

Jason Davis

Fast food from 1776. By which I mean the food is colonial style (and delicious) and also insanely quickly attained. Two kids eating within 5 minutes is a beautiful thing. Two kids who also ate everything we gave them is so wonderful that it makes me believe in the dream of America again. Thank you Thomas Jefferson.

Greg Cooksey

One of my favorite places to stop on my way back up north from Virginia Beach.

Jeffrey Ortz

Cute little place with a couple gift shops and cold beer.

Mia Guinther

Taco Bell had trouble keeping up with the warriors free taco day

Mike L

Delicious and fun with some history worked in.

Savannah Townsend

This place is amazing and has the best food I've ever had it's better than my mother's, my mom's boyfriend's, my Mamaws, my sister, and thanks giving cooking combined

Al Green

Best blackeye peas and stewed tomatoes around with fried chicken, picked beets, string beans, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and home maybe biscuits.

Romain Garnier

The southern fare buffet is a good experience and well priced. However, do it for the experience - not for the food, which was good but not anything to write home about. Except for the gravy - that was a high point.

Gopaulz Zabodyn

The food is good! Fried Chicken and multiple side dishes. The souvenirs are not bad . The staff is friendly. Apparently there's no young men and women in the era portrayed.

Paul Macaulay

Food was terrific, staff is friendly and helpful will definitely be coming back.

Aaron Dodds

Two words: Fried Chicken - as in the best fried chicken you've ever had. Buffet style dining at a very tourist trapish location. If you eat there be sure to eat in the old log cabin in front. It's worth the wait if you want to experience the historical aspects of the property and get the fried chicken!

Bill Semion

After your visit to Monticello, stop here for either a daily lunch buffet, or Wednesday-Sunday, the original part of the tavern for other items.

Rebekah Elkins

Chicken was awesome. Just kinda expensive... And staff were a little less friendlier than I had hoped.

Amanda Austin

This is absolute such a wonderful experience! You enjoy the atmosphere of an 18th century tavern. The hostess, servers, and waitresses were all amazing. The food was farm fresh and excellent. This is an experience highly recommended for all to experience. We went from the tavern up to Monticello and this just added to the whole feel of the experience. Thank you!

Warren McGrath

The wife and I stopped by there to see what was being offered for lunch on our way to Osecola Bed and Breakfast on Friday. The lunch buffet has good ol southern food on the menu but for 18 bucks a head just wasn't appealing at that time to us. I have heard the food is good and people come from all around to eat there but at this particular time it wasn't what we were looking for.

Jill P

Great food. Highly recommend the stewed tomatoes and grilled chicken.

Abigail Bowsher

The setting is just right for the timezone! The food is perfectly made and warm and just overall amazing. The staff here are super nice with their service and know exactly what they are doing. Best lunch I've ever had! Even tops Thanksgiving!

Donna Sheaffer

The tour is interesting and the food is good.

Susan Linton

We loved the historic michie tavern. You can't find the ambiance anywhere like this. The staff in the history museum we're very helpful.

Melissa K

All you can eat very good southern style food

John Beistline

Quaint colonial tavern. Simple buffet tasty

Shari Herrera

Nice atmosphere. Decently priced items. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Anne Qu

Closed really early. I only had time to purchase some postcards. The whole area is really worth visiting. Next time I won't take the dog.

Todd Porthouse

The meal at the tavern was above average but overpriced in my opinion. It's a buffet style meal and you have less than ten items to choose from. The shops, while interesting, again are overpriced although my wife and I found a couple bargains. Overall, nice place to visit but you better bring enough cash...

Lawrence Strobel

A nice little buffet and everything tasted great. The period-dressed servers were very polite and attentive.

L p

Stopped in for a quick snack before visiting Monticello. Pretzel bites and a cider.

Matthew Baker

Buffet food at its finest. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Really enjoyed this place.

Neet U

We loved the food and the whole ambience, it’s like a time travel and visit to the adjacent historic building and learning more about it from the guide was quite an experience.

Benjamin Tusken

Great period tavern! True to the 1780's era. Great staff, friendly people. You must experience this place for yourself.

Briane Turley

As delightful as it was 35 years ago when I was a student at UVA. Staff was more attentive back then, but everyone we met was courteous, and the meal selection excellent. We miss their Marinated Green Bean Salad, but the food is as well prepared as always. Come hungry. A must for anyone visiting Jefferson Country....

Angry Mom & Dummies

Perfect tourist spot great food

Tina Musgrove

Historic tavern and grist mill. Food is okay. Kinda pricey though.

Red Sox Fan

Michie Tavern is a colonial era tavern that was relocated here in the early 1900s. I visited here as a child in the 1980s and recently visited again. Michie Tavern serves a great buffet of "Colonial" food: fried chicken, bbq, fresh vegetables, salad, desserts. Servers are dressed in colonial garb. They will come by to bring you seconds and thirds from the buffet. The fried chicken was excellent, the rest of the food was very good as well. There is an attached, well-appointed gift shop below the restaurant. Two other gift shops, a blacksmith shop and a general store/grinding mill, are on site. These are also transplanted 1800s era buildings. Both stores are great to visit. They offer a multitude of gifts including jewelry, pottery, gifts, candy, glass pieces, and home decor.

Cindy Blackwell

BESTsouthern meal you will ever have!-EVERY thing is delicious-best chicken & green beans & black eyed peas & stewed tomatoes and end the meal with delicious peach cobbler with ice cream. The apple cider to drink is a must! Thank you for preserving southern Virginia history! The staff is dressed in period times & friendly!

Rachel Weaver

Southern food, buffet style, with a fun colonial theme. It wasn't busy and it was absolutely delicious.

gabrielle martinez

Amazing food, staff and service. My favorite historic eats!

Lance Hampton

Normally open only during the day, I was there in the evening for a private party. The food is southern comfort food, consistent with 1760s fare. The fried chicken and pulled pork are both excellent. The fired chicken is amongst the best I've ever had. Also available are beans, black eyed peas, beets, corn bread, and biscuits. There is also a small range of beer and wine. I strongly recommend.

Chuck Davis

This place bills itself as a historic tavern. Everything about it for better or worse is touristy. The tavern sits up on a steep hill and is not very stroller or handicapped friendly. We took our 9 month old there and had to take a winding ramp around to an old fire exit. We then had to wait for someone inside to come around and unlock the door. The buffet was small but most of the items were good. The fried chicken was crisp, the biscuits were delicious, and the stewed tomatoes were excellent. The green beans were canned and flavorless and the pork was pretty mushy. I doubt any locals come here but if you are in town and just toured monticello it may be worth it. Skip it if you have small kids or wheelchairs in your party.

Randall Perry

Unique Atmosphere. Loved the historic feel and history of this place. Food was very tasty. Loved the service. Beautiful location. Ty

Ivana Kayes

We only stopped here to use the restroom but we stayed to appreciate the history and beauty of the building. They had an amazing hand soap in the bathroom that they're selling in the gift shop so we picked that up.

Dawn Monk

It's not bad, it's just not great for the price! The historical part is the best part of the tavern. The shops and general store are fun and interesting.

Gina Jones

Great place cool history worth the stop

Cumi Tee

I am an Uber driver and people ask me about this place all the time...I went and thought the food was great! The biscuits are amazing! And the gift store has everything you could want for tourists! Love love love!

Brian Armontrout

Amazing food! The best fried chicken I have ever had anywhere. Moist and crunchy! You stand in line buffet style for your first servings, and then any seconds, thirds, etc that you want are brought to your table. All the delicious biscuits, cornbread, green beans, stewed tomatoes, cobbler and more are yours for the asking. The waitstaff are all dressed in Jeffersonian attire and are very efficient and friendly. This is a great place to go for some prime Southern cooking.

Sheila Marsh

We went to the Michie Tavern and although it was cool to experience the tavern, I wouldn't spend the 18.50 per person to eat there again. The food was mediocre and lukewarm. The cornbread was super dry and the pulled pork was way too smokey for me. I did enjoy the fried chicken and the mashed potatoes. For that price dessert should have been included. They were right when they named it The Ordinary because to me there was nothing extraordinary about it.

Jill Downing

Wonderful lunch... great service..

Gene Arlook

I loved the brunch here! It's been a long time since orginally coming. The food was great and well worth the money.

Garret Rain

Nice place to visit, little expensive. But the staff are nice.

Bea Wright

We went after touring Monticello right before the pub and tavern shop closed. The service and food was fantastic and the atmosphere couldn’t be better.

Cindi Ashley

Awesome place! Go with an appetite because you're going to want to eat and eat and eat some more. You fill your plate in line and sit down. If you want more of something, just tell you helper and they bring you as much as you want of anything.

Shari Le May

The fried chicken is everything!!!!! The apple dessert was good too. I loved how it was decorated and the plateware was from the time period. Everyone had a smile. It is perfect for school groups. They come to the table and serve. Staff was nice and they know how to deal with children. The gift shops were cute and the general store had every type of thing you could imagine. Bring your school groups here. No one kid complained.

Tim Steele

Fodd was great and the ambience was that of a 18th century tavern

michael thompson

Went there after the tour of Monticello. Enjoyed.

R. Powell

For a buffet the food was quite good. Our server took good care of us. Hoping to come back to try the pub room.

Christian XANDER

The food was excellent and all the different flavors were delicious. Would definitely come again.

Michael Smith

Wonderful, fresh relaxing traditional southern. The best Fried Chicken ever! And I've eaten it all over the world.

Carolyn Plyter

The food was wonderful but the price was ridiculously over priced for the amount. The fact that drinks and dessert were not included it was not worth the money. 75.00 for 3 people with only about 10 food choices, and then drinks and dessert added separate it ended up being a huge rip off. I would not recommend there to anyone and will never go back. For a first timer I will also be a last timer. Very disappointed

Ken Gordon

Michie Tavern is a buffet style with Southern cooking!!! The fried chicken, barbecue, black eyed peas, and green beans were delicious!!! The service was great with the waiter coming by every few minutes checking to see if you needed anything! Very reasonable in price!

James Clinkenbeard

Eat lunch here every year as we leave our vacation home in the Outer Banks. Southern Fried Chicken is superb. Stewed tomatoes are fantastic. Also serving beets, black-eyed peas, string beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, cornbread, biscuits & desserts. Tavern is Thomas Jefferson-era and is just below Monticello.

Laurie Harding

Always a nice visit! Yummy food!

Kyler Fuller

Great staff amd food plus it is a cool eat

Danielle Carnes

Period pub from 1784, moved 17 miles from it's original location in the 1920s to capitalize on tourism at Montocello. Interior is decorated to feel period correct, and drinks and food are served in period reminiscent containers. Absolutely fantastic to visit, I highly recommend!

BrianD

Pub is refreshing stop. Wonderful pimento cheese spread and country ham biscuits.

Scott Rudy

I ate in the pub which had exactly 3 food items available just before 2:00p on a Sunday. The main restaurant was buffet style, but I did hear good things about the food.

Alphonso Phillips

Very good food and serviceis eben better.

Holly Baker

Michie Tavern serves the best fried chicken! Menu is just like my grandmother used to make and brings back fond memories of my childhood. Love sitting in front of the fireplace during the cold season.

Maria Mantilla

This is a perfect place to visit with your family. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and worth the price. Everyone had a great time and the desert was amazing. I highly recommend going here if you are a tourist.

Dennis Auzenne

Great old pub! Beautiful architecture and friendly staff! Local beers & ciders...

Joseph Fordyce, Jr.

Can't argue with others about the main meal being very yummy, but I will wholeheartedly agree with all those that mention it being overpriced. $18.95 per adult is way over the top for a fried chicken or pulled pork dinner. Two meals, two soft drinks, two peach cobblers, and a $2 each discount came out to $49.00. Fkn outrageous. Good food, but not that damn good.

Angelo Cicero

This is the perfect place to eat if you are visiting Monticello. It is really close and has fantastic southern food, served buffet style. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly.

Ma ry

Fun place for tourists and locals alike! Great southern food, hospitality, and scenery.

Jeffrey Kelley

We are vegetarians and we love the quality options we get. The food is simple period era foods. The staff is superb and take pride in their jobs. And the ambiance is perfect.

Christina McFarlin

First time going to Michie Tavern and absolutely will be going back again. The atmosphere is amazing with the most down to earth employees. Our waitress was Lolli and she was fantastic, always checking in on us and was always on top of our needs. Will recommend the fried chicken and the peach cobbler. Come with an appetite!

Cynthia Hargrove

Check it out! Cool, less known historical building where founding fathers visited once. The buffet is pretty good. It's prepared like colonial times, so bring your Tabasco or Tony's if you need to spice it up. Allow extra time for the general store and additional shops. They have a good selection of souvenirs, local art, and even colonial costumes! I've been several times and always have a good time.

Jon Cameron

What a treat! The service is EXCELLENT, our server, Lolly was a sweetheart, the food was GREAT, and the historic value tops it off to make it a fantastic experience for all!

Erin Fuller

Fried Chicken was on point, also got to eat sitting in front of a fireplace on a chilly day. The waitresses were very very friendly and sweet and explained everything on the menu we asked about. I definitely would suggest this as an add-on to your trip to Monticello. The gift shops were good too lots of eclectic stuff add a nice variety of prices.

Erika Formanek

Stopped in here for a drink and ended up in the speakeasy style bar. Super cozy, great cocktails, and perfect location in downtown Charlottesville

Janet Patterson

Fun family experience. The food was hearty, hot, authentic to the period and plentiful!

Monique Pierpont

What a fun place to go. This place is full of fun, gifty stuff and great history!

mickey Forced

I don't understand why everybody gives this place all the stars it must be because they are the McDonald's generation and fast food is all they know yes this place is very good food the service is very slow but it is still a chicken dinner and it still. Almost $23 out the door they offered despacho soup we did not know until we left it was not on the menu and the waitress did not reveal it to us it took a long time to get refills on dinner as well as tea I ended up getting up and getting it myself the waitress at too many customers $23 for a chicken dinner that's a lot of money for a chicken dinner all you can eat it's still chicken..... desert and Ice-T was extra I believe it's five bucks for the peach cobbler and two bucks for the tea

Robin Walker

If you love history then this is a must stop. This tavern was moved from its original spot. It truly gives you a feel for the taverns of our forefathers.

Joshua Thurman

This place is awesome! Great fresh food selection! You can eat until your heart's content

Amy Tomasko

One of the biggest rip-offs of our trip. A sweet lady at the visitors center suggested we go because it is popular among the locals. Let me tell you, the food was definitely not worth the price. They conveniently do not really post it on anything until you're done with your meal at about $22 each after taxes and such. PLUS if you want desserts they're extra, which is a little ridiculous at the price of the buffet. The staff was very nice, and super sweet. I was more excited about the tour we were told about. It was supposed to be included in our lunch, but we soon found out they aren't doing any them anymore. So in conclusion, if you want sub-par southern food that is ridiculously over priced with cute servers in old-timey clothes then Michie's is the place for you. Just looking out for the next guy.

Sanford Potter

Went with friends to the Michie Tavern. Delicious food, outstanding service, very friendly staff. Air conditioning throughout the several dinning rooms. Dinning rooms were very clean as well as the restrooms. Plenty to do, several gift stores and walking paths. Well worth the drive!

Marianne Morris

Limited hours poorly described on website. Staff couldn't care less . Not handicapped accessible. Very cute, very consistent with a visit to Monticello.

Brenda Haynes

Love,Love,Love, the food is great, the atmosphere is terrific, dressed in period attire, Tons of food!! The price can be a little pricey but it's worth going there..Everyone is always friendly!! They also have gift shops..If your in the area, definitely go!!!

Jeff Simpson

Nice Historic building, if you visit Monticello next door you should visit this eatery. You pay a little extra because it feels like a step back into time.

Gloria Farnstrom

What a very unique place. Loved the buffet and tavern drinks and the atmosphere

Tabatha Hollaway

There was so much to see and it was a little but crowded but everything moved nicely. The souvenir shop had something or two for everyone. It was so nice. We did not get to eat but it smelled so good and were heard the food is amazing. The other buildings the were also very interesting. I'm a huge history lover so I was in awe.

Wilda Kruzinski

DELICIOUS food. Although the food is served buffet style, you only have to go through the line once. After that, your server--who is dressed in period costume--will take your orders for anything you would like to have more of. When you're ready for dessert, the server will take that order as well. They serve an amazing peach cobbler there! My husband loves their fried chicken so we eat at Michie's Tavern whenever we drive through Charlottesville.

Carol Looker

Friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Pub food could have been better.

Joshua Welch

Decent food. Good service. Nice to walk around in colonial American environment.

Tracy Tanner Bond

Great place to take your out of town (or city) guests! Southern tavern food (fried chicken, black eyed peas, corn bread, baked tomatoes, peach cobbler with or without vanilla ice cream for dessert)...come hungry, leave full...stroll around the shops or the relocated Michie Tavern. Take in historic Ash Lawn or Monticello while on "the mountain". A must do. Price point is great.

Jessica Skipper

Lunch was very good, sadly I could not eat more. The staff were friendly. We had dessert, he had a root beer float and I had one of the sundaes. We were unable to explore the rest of the property. Next time I will plan more time for our visit.

Andrew Schmitz

Held a dinner for 55 people at this site. The food was excellent and abundant, and the staff was kind and helpful. Nostalgic and comfortable decor.

patty hedges

Enjoy the nostalgia of dining in this quaint, authentic tavern. Simple, delicious food...you won't leave here hungry. Being vegetarian, we weren't sure if we would find something to enjoy only to find they quickly prepared the string beans and black beans vegetarian style. This along with the cornbread, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw, cucumber summer salad, biscuits and fresh apple cider left us with full bellies that couldn't fit in dessert when leaving. While we didn't have any of the chicken, it looked incredibly good and waitresses continuously offered seconds to those wanting more. We plan to go back and sample the desserts of peach cobbler and chocolate chip cookie dessert. Don't be discouraged if you arrive to see a line of people waiting to get in. That's a sign of great food being prepared for you. Fortunately, they can accommodate large groups of people and the line moves quickly.

Sockmnky

Classic place to go for a buffet friendly and themed for an old time experience, good food but a bit pricey.

Rhonda Kolenc

I love this place. I don't know what's better the Ambiance or the food. The chicken is to die for and the stewed tomatoes are like dessert. If you've never been here and you're anywhere nearby make a point to come here it's a really special place.

Jay Burchell

Classic Historic American a. Great food and service.

SUSAN ONDRASEK

The place was at least historic looking. The wait staff was knowledgeable about the beer served. Seems like a regular crowd was there, not just visitors to the area.

Taylor M

It's in a house from 1784 its is very well preserved and spacious. They have costume pieces you can try on for pictures great food and drinks and plenty of gift stores around it.

Kelli Rodrigues

Way over priced for standard food (and choices are low in food)

Rebecca Montague

A nice lunch stop for fried chicken and southern side dishes. Buffet style, excellent service for second and more. You don't leave hungry. Shops to browse. All staff in period dress, dining room is roomy but cozy feeling.

Ian

Not very impressed. Some decent stuff for sale but everything made somewhere else.

Matheson Harris

Nice little southern eatery attached to a cool period tavern. Food was pricey for a buffet, but good and plentiful. The biscuits and bbq pork were my favorite. Lollie our waitress was very nice. The gift shop had some cool stuff. The place is definitely catered more toward selling stuff than historic preservation. The staff seemed to know very little when asked about the house and just referred us to a paper and the posted signs. But wandering around the old tavern was pretty cool.

Brian Horton

Great Southern cooking in a historic 1700's tavern. We loved the atmosphere and the fried chicken was delicious!

John King

I visited once before and felt crowded. Food wasn't good. I tried it again and it was really good. Great service this time. I will try it again. I am a fried chicken person and I suggest you try the baked chicken. Very happy with my most recent meal.

norma hepler

Spending the day with girlfriends, we ate lunch at Michie's Tavern. The buffet style menu consists of fried or baked chicken with all the sides imaginable. A very relaxing lunch surrounded by the historical atmosphere and relaxing fireplace. The tavern sits among a walking trail with lovely views. There is a gift shop, general store, artisan shop and metal shop. We really enjoyed our time spent at Michie's Tavern and plan to go back when we are in the Charlottesville area.

Shelby Spann

The Ordinary has AMAZING food. The buffet is small, but the quality of the food and service makes up for it. When you come in, you get your food, have an employee write up a ticket and then seat yourself. Your waitress will come through with drinks and refills of food in case you want seconds (and you will). The buffet is around $19 for adults with unlimited helpings and kids 5 and under eat free. Dessert and drinks are NOT included in the price of the buffet.

Kara Yakel

Absolutely adorable little place. Has the best hush puppies at the pub and the stores have the cutest stuff! Mostly everything sold is local.

Was looking for a unique place to bring my brother for his birthday, this was the place. Buffet was great and they get you seconds. We had peach cobler for dessert. They give a veteran discount. Then we walked around and looked at all the unique shops.
