This Tourist Attraction is included in the category of National park.
What an amazing place. A solemn battlefield where 5000 brave soldiers fought for our country. Reflect and offer thanks!
Great day trip! Visitor center and Brewers Farm have great visual maps with lights and sounds. Prepare to walk a bit more than any of the other local civil war ‘auto tours’ as there are more trails and a lot more to look at. Definitely worth the trip and make sure to spend the whole day there to see everything!
Wonderful area for horseback riding. Beautiful scenery
Wonderfully kep up park. Tremendous amount of history. We took a guided tour that was great.
Pretty cool place. Very beautiful
Great trails, historical markers and beauty...
Haunting, yet beautiful. You can come for the guided walk at 11:00, or take a self-guided tour. We opted for the self-guided, as the map the ranger gives you is clear, and the trail that circumnavigates the park is well marked and explains how the first battle of Bull Run unfolded. We came early in the morning shortly after the visitor center opened, and there's something about walking the grounds at a place like this when you're all alone and the morning light is casting its shadows. The hike took about two hours and is an easy stroll. We'll have to return another time to see the site of the second battle, as it's an 18 mile loop done by car that would take an entire afternoon. This is really worthwhile even if you have a mere passing interest in American history. Would do again.
Great video that was very informative. Very helpful staff.
Beautiful spot to take in the view! So much history here to explore. Really enjoyed getting a up close view of all the cannons and different artillery.
It's known for the 1st an 2nd battles of Bull Run,but i think it best for me is that Thomas Jackson earned his nickname "Stonewall" but it really was cause he purchased a load of stone an didn't want to pay for it. The stone sellers gave him that nickname for every time they asked for payment he'd "stonewall" em. Of course i wasn't there so....
Took the driving tour. My kids loved it because they saw history from the comfort of an air conditioned car.
Great hike and beautiful scenery. Be careful of snakes on the trail, we encountered a very large one on our last visit!
Nice place. I learned so much about this battlefield that I didn't know about the whole battle. Just wish I had more time I could spend here. I will go back when I'm in the area :)))
Great place to walk around and get some exercise or just relax, it also has a lot of history and is well up kept.
Very informative. If you have the time I highly recommend taking advantage of the Ranger led tours. They are always willing to answer questions. Visit the Stone house and see the names of 2 soldiers that carved their names into the wall and floor. Spoiler: one was crippled for life and the other died.
Hassle free. Well maintained. Great book shop
Historical gem.. we went on July 21 and tour lead by Marine was fantastic ..Loved the way he explained battle and weapons even my 4 year old was super excited... If. Going in summer do carry some water and electrolytes drinks
Awesome place full of history. Lots of trails and areas to walk. I came here once with my grandma when they were shooting off some Civil War guns and cannons (no actual bullets or cannonballs were used) and it was a very cool presentation. Definitely a place worth checking out.
As a history buff, what an exceptional field and views relating the history of the place. This is a must see for anyone needing to be reminded of the history of our country. Make sure you take comfortable shoes for trails.
I'm huge into the history of the Civil War & this battlefield is a huge part of that history! A definite must-see for all Civil War buffs & for anyone interested in that era.
We were here on vacation. Loved it! We stopped by here b4 flying back home. We were in our airport flying clothes but decided to walk one of the trails. Bring a change of clothes, or wear proper hiking clothing. But the hike was well worth it, we didn't care being the stinky people on the plane. HAHA!
I chose my house so I could Be near this exceptional historic site.
Visited for short time. Visitor center is nice and have good information on park, movie to represent what happened there. There are guided tours as well with ranger so check timing else maps are good enough to walk around. For sure it’s heavy grasslands as I didn’t seen paved walking paths as mostly walking on grass. So wear shoes.
Great place to go for a hike with the family and your dog plus the kids learn about history
If you are into history, You have to check this place out. The staff were very helpful. Place is educational.
Manassas, Virginia. This battlefield leaves you an experience of a lifetime. Come experience what General Stonewall Jackson and the Confederate troops fought and endured against the Union during a very difficult time in America. Leaves a real life experience in you.
Love this historic park. Took family photos in front of the stone house since I grew up here. Beautiful scenery.
My family loves visiting here. There are beautiful views and so much history! Always check for ticks when you leave!
We are doomed to repeat history if we don't learn from our mistakes. Keeping history alive for the next generation is best done through these types of display. Beautifully preserved history for all to go and see.
This place is so quite and beautiful. It reminds of the bloodshed happened during the civil war which cost the lives of 620000 people and their sacrifice. There are many entrances for this national park but best way to access is through visitors bay. The place is well preserved with many of the remains from war. The museum is wonderful.
Compared to the other major battle sites, Manassas does the poorest job of both presenting the history and portraying the battlefield. Very few signs or memorials throughout the park ( of course I'm comparing to Gettysburg). Also, because the park sits in the middle of a major confluence of traffic routes, you are pretty much limited to seeing the grass (really that's all there is to see) between opening and lunchtime. Very sad to see and say, but I'd skip the park. Oh visitor's center is usually horrible too.
Great tour filled with information not just about the battle, but also diary entries from soliders. Would come back for another one when in town again!
Very interesting place to visit. Learned a lot of interesting things they don't teach in school.
A great place to visit with alot history
Lovely trails, all well marked. For such a close location to DC area, it makes for a quick and easy hike. For those interested on going, wear good shoes as there are portions with a lot of mud!
Very nice and easy to walk around.
I'd never been to a Civil War battlefield before and this experience didn't disappoint. The Parks Service needs to do some work on the map and trail markings. The trails marked on the signs aren't labeled on the brochure map. This park is an amazing reminder of one of the darkest hours of American history and much can be learned and perspective gained by visiting and walking the same paths teenagers walked for the sole purpose of killing others at the command of another. It is sobering and educational. There is a pretty decent app for the park but it too needs work to help visitors understand where they are while walking through the woods and over the hills. Bluetooth sensors could easily be used with more abundant trail markers to enhance the learning experience.
Beautiful park with some great history. The 45 minute docu-drama is worth watching.
Come here to learn about the Civil War, there are many things to see, you can get a better understanding of the battles and how things transpired by visiting these areas. There is a walking tour as well as a visitor's center. If you are in the area this is a location that you should take the time to visit. You will learn something while gaining a better appreciation of the battle.
Great bridle trails! Well maintained and groomed. Fantastic place to ride!
I was disappointed. The park itself is lovely, but is bisected by highways. The driving tour was hurried and hectic, due to everyday traffic. My expectations of the area were quiet fields and farms, but the area proved otherwise. It is very urban with heavy traffic. Expect long waits to get anywhere.
You can drive through the battlefield with no charge...unless you turn off the main road and go closer to various sites. One thing to note is that because of the normal growth of vegetation, this isn't how it looked during the Civil War. However, with a little imagination, you can still see cannons firing and horses charging along with plenty of blue and gray soldiers.
The history of this place is amazing. It is neat to walk where so many gave their lives. Seeing the cannons and old landmarks really hives perspective to what they went through in battle. Would recommend a visit if you are out that way.
We had a couple of hours to kill before we were catching a plane to the airport so we decided to stop here. We only had time for one walking tour (Henri Hill) and a quick walk through their little museum. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the battles that were fought there during the civil war, and I wish we had time to do some of the other tours. Definitely want to go back and see the rest of it when I have time.
So much history here. And beautiful landscape
Well maintained visitor center and trails, with good mix of difficulty in hiking trails
Nicely kept. A lot of information. Real artifacts here.
Can't believe I've lived here for close to 15 years and never really explored it. The paths are tree line canopied. Not all just open fields that one sees as you drive by
Lots of space, Beautiful views, and also Historical things
Beautiful well maintained park. Great for a hide, run or to learn about history.
We arrived at 3pm Sunday having never been before. We brought the pup as this National Park was known to be dog friendly and wanted to give the 5 mile loop a try. What we realized is the their suggestion of doing the shorter loop was spot on, as our dog slowed us down quite a bit, especially with the muddy conditions of the trail. Advice of the day: If it's rained the week of or the day of, please wear waterproof boots, preferably of ankle height. The views are spectacular and the guided signs are well posted with timestamps, which really pull you into the story with each part of the trail. A worthy visit to this historical site.
So impressed with the rangers and volunteers here. The Henry Hill tour (focusing on the first battle of Manassas) and the Brawner Farm tour (the second battle) were both excellent and tailored to the interest and age of our group. The movie at the visitor center is surprisingly high quality (narrated by Richard Dreyfuss!) and even my little kids really enjoyed it. You especially can't beat the scenery! It's gorgeous out here, and after you're done with the historic tours and the miles of beautiful hiking trails, you can hit Bull Run Winery for a cool glass of viognier.
I did 1st Manassas the other day (did 2d decades ago). The main part of the battle was fought on a hill where the main visitors center was. The area is small enough that you can get a good sense of where the troops were, where the cannons were (right where they are now), and how and why various actions were mistakes. Two very different video presentations were excellent in giving you overviews of the battle and some human scale. And then you can take a guided hiking tour, which does not require too much exertion (I'm elderly and obese, and I didn't have a problem even in the July afternoon heat,) I am told that the 2d battle VC also has at least one similar video presentation. Gift shop had excellent selection. No snack bar IIRC, but the vending machine will give you any drink you like if what you like is bottled water. But it's not in the middle of nowhere, so there are nearby food options.
This historical site was really cool I had never been there and really enjoyed the experience of being able to see and learn about some of our country's history!
Great history and trails galore. Perfect for everyone who loves hiking and the outdoors.
Are place to see some history. Truly amazing
Great walking trail options, some are handi cap accessible. Highly recommend going to the visitor office to get a map of the different trails
Walking tour is more like standing tour but recommendable nevertheless
Beautiful park. Very nice and easy trail. Good for all family members.
Very informative visitors center, and car tour of the battlefield.
The Rangers were very good on the tores and very nolageble. Very insightful !!!
Not bad. Learned quite a bit. Big field and lots of hills. Didnt know there was 2 battles
Well-preserved hallowed ground
Several nice options for horse trailer parking, trails are well-marked and have good footing. The terrain is fairly easy with several stream, bridge, and road crossings. Lots of nice views varied between field and wooded trails.
The indoor history museum was really interesting.
Interesting but not a lot to see with kids. Adults interested in the Civil war would probably make a better clientele. This is a "no fee" stop.
Awsome place to enjoy history and nature all in one!
If you're a Civil War Military History enthusiast or simply want to walk the many nature trails that cover the park, this is the place to be. Make sure you have a detailed map of the trails with you during your walk, because it can get a liitle confusing where you're at ( especially when walking in the wooded areas. The nature trails can get muddy / wet after a rain or snow, especially the low lying areas, so be sure the grounds are dry enough. Enjoy!
Beautiful grounds. Worth paying your respects.
Very cool place to see if you like history and the visitor center features a free film that goes in detail on both civil war battles that happened here
Great people working there and the historic information provided was very educational. Great place to bring the kids, lots of sites artifacts.
Love the bridle trails here. Feel so lucky to be able to enjoy them on foot or on horseback.
Always enjoy going to the park. My grandchildren love to be outdoors and the park provides acres of open space and miles of trails to explore.
Great place for a nice walk while enjoying the scenery and history of the place.
First time there and enjoyed it. Nice shaded trail, several wildflowers and insects to enjoy! There were a ton of runners out which sometime interfered with getting thendeaired photo, but it was definitely worth the trip and we will be back!
Very helpful rangers and volunteers at the visitors center, lots of parking, restrooms and interesting historical tidbits. You can fill up your own water bottle or buy water from a machine, but there are no snacks, unless they sell some in the gift shop. Trails from the visitors center can be a little tricky to navigate as you start in an open field, so I've found it easier to park at Stone Bridge, take the blue trail from there to the visitor center, which is a little less than 2 miles, rest, use the facilities, etc., then do the rest of the blue loop back to Stone Bridge. I would say it's a challenging hike for younger kids (mine is almost 9 and def found it challenging) and can be very dicey on the trail from Stone Bridge to the visitor center as you have to cross Rte 29, which is very busy and NO ONE stops. Crossing back over on the other half of the loop is better as you have a light at the intersection of 29 and 234.
Enjoyed an excellent free tour from a very well versed park guide. Highly recommend! Inside the visitors center there is an awesome visual presentation and small museum - really well done!
Great place and you will not believe that you are actually in the battle field. There is so much learn about history here. The staff are very knowledgeable and you will get to know about many historic events from them.
The museum has a good battle map that makes it clear what happened so you can then walk the park and see how the fighting transpired. It's incredibly daunting to imagine what the soldiers were asked to do.
It was beautiful. A very historical feel.
Manassas Battlefield , The first battlefield and Stonewall stands is goosebumps great to experience!
Very pretty area, quiet area to really contemplate what truly happened at this spot. Would not recommend for strollers or wheelchairs. Watch for ticks and snakes!
Great park, lots of historical stuff and a lot of walking lol
Great place for a kid friendly hike. We love the stone bridge loop.
Wide open battlefield with several trails that run through more forested areas. Visitors' center features a sophisticated LED diorama recapitulating the course of the battle.
Nice walk and history. Can't go wrong. Take snacks for a mini picnic. Great for the dogs.
Park service is very friendly! The property is kept up very nicely. It's a great place for history and hikes!
Great place to go for a long walk with family
Awesome history here. Great self guided tour, well maintained and family fun.
Nice place for an afternoon stroll, as well as a walk through US history. There are a lot of plaques with historical tidbits throughout the trials. It also has a couple "sections" with parking lots if you want to thoroughly enjoy a small section of the park instead of being overwhelmed with the large park
One of my favorite National Battlefield Parks. Near pristine condition of the First Manassas Battlefield area and Park Service is taking steps to return more of the Second Manassas Battlefield to period condition. Its easy to feel the history here as you gaze over the beautiful landscape.
This a very great place ,very calm always full of all kinds of people learning the history of the battlefield.
Went to a artillery and infantry shooting exhibition. Way cool! Both battle sites are cool.
Hard to not give a park such as this less than five stars. The grounds are clean, and park rangers friendly. If you are interested in civil war history this is a must see. It is amazing and awe inspiring. However a deep feeling of sorrow hit me kinda deep. So many had die there.
Great view of Manassas battlefield with museum and theatre.
A great place for a hike on well maintained trails. The small museum at the visitors center gives a good overview of the battles that occurred there.
Great, not so crowded (with monuments or people) battlefield. Miles of hiking when both battlefields are combined. Go on weekends, but avoid during early parts of rush hour because 234 and/or 29 will back up and greatly increase the guided drive.
Lots of trails with markers indicating relevant Civil War facts. Nice visitor center with limited parking.
Great place to walk and go through the battle timeline.
Is with love and respect for all heroes lost there life for all.
Great trails, easy steam crossings with horses, parking lot picnic area is under construction. Looking for better trails for the horse trails. The hilltop loop was amazing!!
Love the battlefield. Would be nice if there was more parking, complete trail maps, and better signage... A lot of it is old, and in bad shape, and doesn't give much detail to "illustrate" it's information. A few signs do. Realize this would require more federal funding (and visitors need to pay the $3 park fee...) so improvements are not an overnight deal for National Parks. Always a nice place to get out for a local hike of any duration desired!
I had the opportunity to explore the great history of our past, awesome view
Children enjoyed. Hikes are nice
Huge battlefield with markers for each historical event within. Great to hike and bring your dog. Bathrooms and water in the visitor center too!
It's interesting to see this in person. It gives much more perspective on the history than what we were taught in history class. I also found it interesting to read the stories about the homes that happened to fall in the crossfire of the battle.
Again. A park. But with canons. Cool
Great History and visitor center. Monuments to New York regiments are well done.
Loved this place. Upkeep is great and people are friendly.
History buff or just want to see a massive part of American history? Go! But you better be ready to walk around on trails for quite some time to take everything in properly in my opinion. I happened to be there on the 158th anniversary of the first battle. Very cool. Even in a 107 degree heat index real feel temperature I enjoyed every minute and I spent 4 hours walking the trails and checking out the battlefields and buildings. Take advantage of the free water and AC in those buildings.
Love this historic place for evening walk to vast openness.
I learned a great deal about our history. We walked and drove around the battlefield and the map given to us at the museum was easy to follow. I highly recommend this park.
Very interesting place. A lot of history to catch up on.
All types of trails for any walk you are looking for! Beautiful views everywhere and you can really get the mileage in if you want. Highly recommend.
Part of history. Good 2 know
Awesome experience. Will go back for morr!
Excellent tour guide Wonderful and Historical Experience Felt like I was living in the moment over 200 years ago.
Reflect, learn and remember. Never forget those who loved, lost, fought and died for our rights and freedoms. Take your kids!
Really good tour guide, interesting movie and artifacts. Sobering history, lovely location.
A great place for family. Or just jog the trails and unwind.About thirty minutes from Arlington. The Ranger was nice and gave helpful information on nearby National sites close by.
It's a great park where you can take your kids hiking pack some lunch and spent the day by the creek. We love this place.
Nice vistor center! Mid day we got caught in a crazy rainstorm. Stopped at the winery for refreshments. Was a good day trip.
Love this park, I always come to run in the morning here.
Amazing, beautiful educational, interesting, wonderful place for family's and dogs. Great for a nice afternoon walk. Good air conditioning inside of buildings.
Nice place to walk my big dog I use for last few years.
Great place to visit. So much history.
Docent was really knowledgeable. Grounds well kept. Pretty park.
Did you know there were tourists at the first battle of Bull Run? Can you imagine? They would have seen Union and Rebel forces fighting hill to hill in the middle of summer with wool uniforms and not much training. This is what I see when I visit the park. Large Battlefield broken up by local busy roads. Very busy on weekends. You can ride horses in the park.
Excellent Civil War battle field to visit. Lots of walking around. It's a great place to let your imagination run wild to think what was happening during this time period of our country and the struggles that were faced.
Love that you can get walking tours.
Very historic, has two fantastic hiking trails, and even has a small interactive museum. Great place to spend a day if you're relatively close by.
Wonderfully done battlefield. Walking tour of the first battle let’s your really understand how it unfolded. Auto loop of second battle great as well. Interpretative center fabulous with lights map explanation. Free. Must stop.
Really nice park with easy scenic trails. Tons of history and a nice visitor center to boot. Highly recommended
I love history and this location has a nice display and information center. I look forward to going back and getting one of the tours.
Love this place. So much fun to hike and walk around. I wish you could bike, but I understand that would be hazardous for many reasons.
Very sad place to be. However I was given a chance to watch riffles being fired like it was at the 1st Manassas Bull battle
Great national battle field to go and visit. The park service officials are very knowledgeable and great to listen to and pick up some more facts about the two battles as well as the entire war. From historic buildings to scenic trails this place has a lot to offer. Great place to go for a hike or walk. Good for all ages and groups of people will find it interesting if you're looking for somewhere to go with the family. Public restrooms can be hard to find unless you're at the visitor center. Great vantage point and vast undeveloped areas make it easy to forget that you're surrounded by millions of people.
Very nice place enjoyed my stop
Loved this place. The setting is gorgeous! There is a trail that goes around to different places that is 1.1 mile long. The museum is very small, but it has a very good informational video. They had tours with tour guided every 1/2 hour, I believe that lasted quite a while from what I could tell. I only heard parts of it while we walked on our own. I couldn't get over the beautiful area.
Great place for a run or hike. Also good for photos
Awesome place to visit. The moving maps that explain the battle are great. There are trails, statues and plaques all around to fill hours of time. Inside the AC feels great and there are water fountains and a place to refill your bottle. A place to spend time, learn about history or enjoy nature.
Great Historic Battlefield. Lots to see and take great photos.
Setting aside that it poured down rain during my time there. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Battlefield. It was peaceful and quiet much like it was before first and second Bullrun.
This place was greate very informative in such historical place events here. It is a must see when you are around the area.
Thank God we preserved it. We going to need it come 2020 to ride the earth or these commie liberals. Tump 2020. We will America a Free country!!!! .
Great spot to get away when you are used to the busy DC life.
Definitely going again. Still alot we didn't get to read and walk the battlefield. The history is great the videos in the visitor center are a must do. Go walk the same steps of many soldiers that didn't get to make it home ever again.
