DESCRIPTION

You will see all the opinions of real people like you who consumed the products of Historic Jamestowne (Tourist Attraction) in Virginia area.

As of day the firm has a rating of 4.7 stars out of 5 and this rating has been based on 2018 reviews.

You may have noticed that its rating is nearly the top, and it's founded on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can think that the assessment is quite credible. If many people have bothered to leave their score when they've done well with the service, it works.

As you know, we don't usually bother to place tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

This Tourist Attraction is included in the category of Archaeological museum.

REVIEWS OF Historic Jamestowne IN Virginia

Michael Valdivielso

The Visitor Center for the Jamestown site. Not to be confused with the Settlement. A film, a few exhibits and artifacts. Restrooms of course and a gift shop. Entry way to the Jamestown Historic site. Partly run by the Federal government. Remember to check the weather before going. Also remember to check the websites to see what discounts are available for you.

Mikki S

A great place to bring kids. Make sure to talk with the reenactors to get the most out of the experience!

Julia Roark

Historic Jamestown is Spectacular! To actually see the first English settlement come alive is fantastic with the fort, buildings and what the settlers did to survive. You can feel the history as you walk through the area. It is worth the time you spend there, learning and hearing from the Park Rangers sharing the living history.

michael milcarsky

Informative, to see the different areas of the first settlement

Thomas Disney

I absolutely love going to places like this. The history alone is worth the time to look around. Being able to walk around the ruins and see how people lived back then is priceless. I would highly recommend going here if you are close by and love history

Jamie Cook

Had so much fun exploring and learning the history presented here! We participated in an archeological dig and the lady that runs the Ed Shed was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back!

Monica Hartley

What an awesome and informative trip. Have loved every minute. If you have never been, allow a few days to enjoy all of the sights.

Tony Mangabat

I loved it for the history. Period. Thank you for preserving this for all to see and to experience.

Erich Utrie

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff. You need to visit where America began! They are constantly researching and telling a more complete story of our origins as a country. I learn something new every time I visit!

Rachael Olmstead

Excellent tour

Steve Burt

Make sure you have time to see everything. Very interesting.

Rose Nurney

Wonderful Museums and history we need to know.

Jodilyn Owen

Very good stop, so completely different than Williamsburg--what a difference 150 years of technology can make! Lots of big shady trees for dodging out of the sun for a few minutes of respite and a nice breeze off the river. Park Ranger gives a detailed history of the site and includes Native American and First African histories as well.

Kristen Smith

If you have any interest in American history at all, this is the place for you! Self-guided tour at your own pace.

Lancey Cunningham

Loved the history. Cankot wait to visit after renovations are done.

Trey Noe

Reading a book or seeing a documentary is interesting but being in the same place as where history was made allows you to really empathize with the experiences had by those before us. Anyone interested in the story of John Smith and the settlement at Jamestown must come to this place in addition to the visitor center and Jamestown Settlement where the recreated camps and ships are.

Doris K. Powe

Great place to sense centuries of history.

Sam Bays

A little dubious at first with the $20 pass for Jamestown/Yorktown, but hadn't been there in decades. So glad we went. There was a tour at 11 am by a historian from Preservation Virginia that was absolutely wonderful. Mark challenged us, surprised us and inspired us. Well worth the time and expense.

Ernest Grendell

A real glimpse into the original American colony and it's day-to-day life information center as of right e of interesting facts as well as the national park stamp at the information booth

Beverly Goldstein

Enjoy the trip. Love learning about the history of Jamestown.

Eric Wolf

The national Park service has done it again. Another great experience for our family. Their interpreter in the archaerium was fantastic and had them mesmerized. The food at the Dale house was fantastic. The wind blew a ham sandwich over and they replaced it with a smile. Highly recommend a few hours time well worth it.

CATHERINE COX

Jamestown is amazing! The settlement is true to 1600's life. The interpreters are very knowledgeable and able to discuss their craft with everyone. I love going there and to historic Jamestown. It is history come to life. I highly recommend the trip.

Tony Kilic

The last time I was here it was more than 10 years ago. They have discovered and are displaying a while lot more artifacts more than ever. The ground is well maintained and clean. They are also restoring the old church as well. The entry fee of 20 dollars for adults is a little high in my opinion but it is what it is. The kids under 16 are free. Cool place to take the family.

Ron DeFoe

Great place to see a piece of our country's history.

Marilu Horning

This is a must see if you're in Virginia. Very informational. You'll learn a lot from the guides and the sites are very realistic. It will give you goosebumps to be in the exact spot the very first settlers where. There is archeological sites in which you can see for your self what they are finding.

Three against one

This was so great. Lots of history, great reenactment, and not too hug. The kids dig was a hit for my kids. Interactive history getting the kids involved. The cafe has a variety of choices for sandwiches and salads. vegetarian items available as well

april martinez

400th anniversary of the first assembly of English speaking peoples in the northern America's is a great time to go.

Eileen Haberstroh

A bit dull unless you love seeing outlined building remains. Best to go in cooler months. Probably would have done a bit more reading and exploring

Lindsay Runion

Was very disappointed was not worth the $20 we were charged to get in with a school trip. Charged other parents $5 that were in the same group. Basically was told we wontl't a chaperone just because we drove our self. Would not recommend people to waste their money. The Jamestown Settlement was way better.

Wendell Nealon

Wow. This was so interesting and fun to explore. The charm and history was everywhere I looked. Definitely a must visit.

Wyatt Earp

Wow IV been watching the tv show. I wish I lived here. I would fit in like this is my time. If anyone from this place reads this I live near charlotte nc I do leather work wrought iron work forging . flint napping hand wood work . Indian crafts . I feel it's like I belong here. . maybe someone from this place might have a spot for me.

Jon Eggert

Really good if you like history. They tell it how it was here not a partially correct story. Staff is very friendly and will answer any questions.

Air_Conditioning

Beautiful example of colonial history. Jamestown is more than foundations, they have a restaurant and 2 museums. The guides love what they do and can answer any question you may have.

Pamela Pinson

Where the British invasion began. Beautiful historical park. $20 entry fee.

Jim Sehr

Historic! Need I say more? The first permanent English settlement in America--the "beginning" of our nation and much of our culture

Carol B

This was a great historic site. The native American was so so informative and interesting to learn about their role in american history

Lacey Howard

Neat place. We stopped here on the way to a vacation in Maine. We wanted to site see to break up the 20 hour trip. It's 20.00 per adult to enter, kids under 15 are free. Historic Jamestown is the original site of settlers, and you get to walk through to see the current ongoing excavations, some restoration and recreations of the buildings and fences. The museum there has nice finds from the digs, including some of the bodies that were buried there during the starving years. Jamestown settlement is its own interactive interpretation of life and times during the historic Jamestown population. Jamestown settlement had its own location and entrance fees. We enjoyed walking through and reading the placards. We will plan a future trip to see it again.

Bobby Leach

This is a really nice place to see the history of Jamestowne. There is so much to see that it's an easy two day stay.

Benjamin G

A little overpriced for what you get...but the new museum from the archeological digs is really well put-together. You have to go...it is the first permanent English settlement in the new world after all!

Alexander Watts

I prefer the National Park of Jamestown over the commercial one down the road. The National Park generally has more updated and current information on the colony. Much of this is due to the fact that you can usually run into a few archeologists digging something up who are happy to any answer questions you may have.

Bob Tschirhart

I've been to several National Parks but this is absolutely the best. The start of America. Amazing and fantastic!! Walk away informed and emotional. Great staff.

Katies Mom

Interesting to hear about and see the work being done to literally unearth the very beginnings of English America. To hear about the contributions made by the white English inhabitants, the native Americans already there and the Africans who came a bit later. All made the important sacrifices and contributions to bring us to where we are today. We enjoyed both the outside tours and the museums and plan to go again.

Doug M.

Great national park. On the actual site of the original fort. The archaeology museum on site is top notch with a lot of super cool artifacts. It's an active dig site, so things are always being discovered. Highly recommend exploring this place, driving the colonial parkway, and then checking out Yorktown battlefield. You can do it in one day, but I wish we had spent an extra day here.

Andrew Doyle

Good place for history buffs & older kids but leave little ones behind.

Bron Tharpe

This was an interesting place to visit. If you are a history lover, this is a place you want to visit. There is a museum with a lot of artifacts. It will take see time to see everything. The people dressed in period time are fun to talk to and have a lot of knowledge to share with all visitors.

Susan Murphy

Unbelievable to see! To see TRUE history right under my feet! Is a true place to see! Pure American History! Nothing fake about this place

Joyce Irwin

So Interesting.. the blacksmith was so pleasant and informative. Great history and the archaeology team share much information fantastic !

Joseph Chambers

The tour was great and the tour guide did a great job teaching us about the 1st African slave brought from Africa over 400 years ago...only reason why I didnt give it 5 stars is because while enquiring about purchasing tickets at the counter the white older gentlemen was really rude ...both were and I'm not gonna assume it was because of my color but not sure and dont care but did not appreciate the rudeness from both of these older white gentlemen

Debra Flower

We didnt spend enough time there. We will need to go back. Very interesting.

William Schmeits

I have relatives that lived there in 1629 or 31. I just had to go and see where they lived. It was very enjoyable. I wished I would have had time to visit where the town would show HOW they lived.

Marilou Grimes

Great historical and archeological dig site

Dylan Jenkins

I love visiting historic Jamestown! Great place to learn about where our country started. It has artefacts, exhibits, tours, classes, etc. Keep in mind if you go during the summer months it will be hot, muggy, and have a lot of bugs flying around. It is a swamp after all.

Richard Hughes

American history abounds in Jamestown. Terrific exhibits and shops. I'm going back soon.

Athena Anderson

Glad this place is half owned by the Virginia preservation society as we visited during the shut down. They did an amazing job at meshing what is with what was! Mostly outdoors and potentially windy. Not a lot of benches if you have trouble walking a few miles but the Cafe is a great place to take a break. Definitely a must see!

Katherine Stevens

Loved listening to our knowledgeable historian, John Rolfe, and learned a lot about this important site. So nice to be at the actual spot that was inhabited.

benjamintri

It's the first English settlement, and it does a good job of covering that through ruins, exhibits, and even remains. I will not debate the indigenous issue here, but this site does a good job of covering its subject matter.

Miranda Fleming

Homeschoolers, don't miss the great opportunities scheduled especially for us in September at Jamestowne. The kids got to dig for artifacts and learn about the exciting work of archaeologists! Kids 15 and under always visit free!

Tina LoPinto-Spruill

So special to see where the America, we know, had it's humble beginnings. We stood in the very church where Pocahontas was married. Saw the original fort of the first English colony. There was so much information available. Wonderful learning experience!

Tonya Roach

Very educational! If you like history you will like this place.

DIANE Zagajeski

This national location was great. The weather added to the enjoyment. The tour guides were great. The cafe and outdoor seating was totally relaxing.

Dan Alban

Well worth visiting for history aficionados. Not just an archaeological dig. The wooden fort and some brick foundations have been reconstructed over where the ruins were found, so it is easier to picture what early Jamestown was like. Co-owned by private Preservation Virginia, so there are two museums on site, one run by National Park Service (good video & historical displays), and a private museum with many artifacts. The private museum addresses several archaeological mysteries from the site, including cannibalism, an early shooting victim, and a Catholic reliquary found buried in the grave of an early English colonial leader, Capt. Gabriel Archer, in the chancel of an Anglican church that once stood inside the fort. (Spanish Catholics were rivals of English Anglicans in the race to settle the New World.)

Melissa K

Very cool to see the settlement and museum

Ritesh Soni

Great historical place, ferry service is awesome

April LasVegas

Absolutely beautiful country and such historical significance to America. How awesome is it to be able to Rd trip and capture moments with a part of history! So much fun! Safe travels! Be sure to pull over safely if you get out your vehicle on the roadway! Traffic moves quickly.

Rick Reeser

Fun place to stop and tour on foot.

M A

This review is for the island nature drive which was absolutely fabulous. Saw many eagles and osprey and swifts and swallows. Such a gorgeous place. Don’t miss the short walk to black point.

Jim Coffman

Awesome stop, we made this one of our stops on our way to the beach great drive through a lot of historical sightseeing there’s so much to explore in this area you could spend a week and not take it all in.

Patrick Clayborn

Very educational. This absolutely MUST be on your list of things to do while visiting Williamsburg/Jamestown.

Dee Myers

So much to See!! Lots of History, walking paths!! Ships, movies, memorials & memorabilia - long day

Jim Silva

Volunteer provided historical milestones on the dig, fantastic level of knowledge and enthusiasm. Interesting story here.

Sarah Bowers

Had sooo much fun. Great way to spend the weekend with Kid’s

Jeremy Zimmerman

Historic Jamestowne is easily one of my favorite historic sites to visit. Not only is it an amazing and important piece of our nation's history but unlike most historical sites it is actively being excavated. So unlike many other sites where you see a static end result, here you can literally speak to archaeologists actively digging to uncover more about the site and our past. We've been to the area 4 times and have visited each time. And every visit has taught us something new!

Jack Savedge

The historical impact of the first permanent colony has been saved for the visitor's interpretation. You are able to walk on replicas of the actual ships that sailed across the Atlantic to give you a feeling of what the settlers actually endured. You can walk thru the fort and feel what it was like to be all alone; left to deal with unknown weather as well as the Indians who approached the fort.

Jeff Rutherford

The park is so amazing! The history is incredible and well taken care of. The visitors center has a great 17 minute long view. See it! The junior ranger program is really good my kids loved it! And the badge is a nice wooden on. At Jamestown itself you are welcomed to a beautiful view of the water and all the old structures. There are big mulberry trees around as well.my kids loved eating them as we talked to one of the archeologist. She great and talked with us for about 45minutes about what they were doing and answering all of our questions. It was really great. Absolutely visit the GLASS HOUSE as well, it is So Incredible! They make all sorts of glass things from bottles to oil lamps and ornaments. The glass artists were very friendly and interacted with us while we were there. He answered all our questions and even asked us a few, it was fun. One of the artists said he had been at the Jamestown glass house for 24years! That is super cool! He seemed to know just about everything about the facility and the glass. My kids had a great time watching him work. The lady in the little gallery was a great multi tasking master. She was checking people out with their purchases AND commentating on what the glass artists was working on without missing a beat. It was just as fun to watch as the glass artist! All and all it is a MUST SEE!

Marion Parra

Beautiful! Perfect place to take a relaxed walk and go window shopping.

Tina Musgrove

Amazing educational experience for families learning about the origins of our America!

Cynthia Snider

My ancestors lived here, worked here, came to do business here and participate in representative government. The National Park rangers are very helpful as is the staff and signage. You can wander at your own pace or choose a guided tour, attend a program, learn in the outside and inside museums. With my senior pass, it was only $5 for a week's admission. Some of the pics are taken from the James River.

Bryan R Shipp

What an extraordinary place! I learned so much about the early history of the US during my visit, and could really feel the history of the place when visiting the site of the original colony. Absolutely remarkable.

sharon Jarrell

This is a great way to learn the history of Jamestown. That being said it was way too much walking for my kids ages 5 and 2, and while they really enjoyed the Ed Shed they were really too young to stay interested in the history. The tours that were being conducted sounded great, I would have enjoyed them! Just keep in mind that young kids do not have much to keep their interest here and it is a lot of walking. And DO NOT in anyway CONFUSE THIS WITH the JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT that has a reconstructed replica of the fort, Powhatan village and ships along with people dressed in time period and demonstrating things throughout the settlement.

John McElreath

Our tour guide was awesome. It was 90+ degrees he was full of energy and made the tour fun. I am writing this about an hour later so I'm sorry I can't remember his name. But thank you US Parks service for employing people that care.

pkleo73

My girl and I were on vacation here. Awesome spot

Kathryn Buettner

This place was amazing. It's not every day you get to visit an active archeological dig site and one so important to US history. The tour guide was engaging and provided a lot of great information and context. The museum of artifacts was great and allowed you to really see what kind of people lived in Jamestown. The inclusion of Native American history was good to see

Roger Forsman

Not much left but still worth seeing, every American should visit first hand

MY Music playlist

It was refreshing to see America before it became america

Russell W

Pretty cool to see how it was laid out and they are still finding new things

Russell Lee Gitlitz

It's cool. Lots of historical displays and info

Barbara Barrows

I really like the staff here they were well knowledgeable. I was able to ask questions and everyone was patient and kind. The cashier even offered suggestions on how to visit and explore the island. Very good place to visit and well recommended.

George Coan

Great to see where we began. Good food at the cafe

Frank Slattery

Great especially the Friday forensics. I really enjoyed that. Thanks so much!

Kristin Wiener

Really well done - love how they tell the story of everyone involved in Jamestown, including Africans and Native Americans, not solely focusing on the English settlers.

Tim Watts

Very well laid out and informative. Support our National Parks.

Don Chilton

Neat to see where USA started but not much original to see

Jonathan McKinney

A great historic experience. Standing in the place where our ancestors entered this country is moving. The staff is professional and knowledgeable and the facilities are clean, educational, and modern. Great for students and families.

Jonathan Holland

Another great visit to this very important site. This trip we took in part of the archeological tour and spent extra time to drive the scenic nature loop. Couldn't believe how nice the weather was for late May. Low humidity and temps in the 70s. Made for a great day and visit.

Nicole Oberdick

Wonderful historical and educational experience for families and adults, but try to visit when there aren't lots of field trip groups!!

Keith Stanford

Very informative placards placed all around the facility. Tours (covered by admission) are available if time permits. An active dig site in operation.

Ernie Schreiber

Great place to kayak. The equipment is in good repair. Rental prices extremely reasonable. Lots ofof backwater nooks and crannies. Lots of wildlife.

Patrick Fero

Well presented artifacts from the area. Impressive amount of material.

Maureen Healy

Steeped in history! Very educational, gives a feeling for those hearty immigrants who carved out a new life. Needs more native peoples information but they are working on thst6.

Justin Davis

Great place to go, later in the day it gets hot though.

Luther Williams

Got to be willing to get your walk on, so much to see.

Leonard Lyles

I nice place to view stuff and learn about history especially here in the United States of America!

Deborah Gentry

We had a great day......weather was perfect!

Anne W

Great archeaological site. Definitely take a guided tour as showed up before 3 when all of the tours had completed for the day. I think much was missed out on without explanation of the digs and stories of history. Still. Great place to visit.

Erik Covert

Very cool to see the dig site of where the first settlers in America made camp.

Víctor Hugo Madera Rojas

I really enjoyed this place. We spent almost 5 hours at the museum, the fort and the ships.

Dee Wolford

I'm so glad that the true history is being found and shared. Well worth the trip.

Joseph Eckersley

Excellently laid out walking tour and archeological museum.

S L

Loved the history of the place and all the archeological dig sites.

2CleverMafia USA

Fun historic site, so much to learn!

Aaron Blank

A great stop for anyone with historical interest! The tour guide is a great way to go through the site, but you can freelance your way through the facility as well. There are many knowledgeable park employees that can answer any questions you might have. This site is an awesome place that jumps right out of history.

Bill Spade

Loved it. Tremendous amount of work completed since last year. Where America began.

Jeremy Nooney

The staff is very caring and friendly. Archaeologists were actively digging for new antiquities and unearthing the deeper hidden parts of Jamestown. If you are going during the summer, bring something to drink or stop at the cafe and stay hydrated as there is a lot of walking.

Laurie Hall

We love coming here. History is big with our family, and it's fun. My little loves coming here. She learns without realizing it. The staff is helpful and friendly, and are quick to answer any questions you may have.

David Clark

Very nice. The ships were the best part. If I lived here I would definitely volunteer for crew member.

Andrew Barnum

Not what I was expecting. Its 20 bucks to get in and then there is really nothing. The old church was closed. If your into history then you may really enjoy this but I was here to get some good photos and there is nothing here. Also this is NOT the Jamestown settlement. That is down the road a bit and has a different admission price. That is far more worth your hard earned money and its cheaper. There is no signs to say which one has the 3 ships. Lets be clear, the ships are at the settlement and not historic Jamestown. Go there and don't waste your money here.

Heidi Jacks

This was an awesome experience. The tour guide was great, very informative and energetic. There is so much history here and you get to see where it all began for us Americans. I found it super cool to see actual archeological work being done. They explain to you what they are doing and what they are looking for. Beautiful scenic area. The cafe was great, they have excellent sweet tea and carrot cake. The museum was interesting. Highly recommend this place especially if you love American history.

Derek Dotson

Very historic location. Knowledgeable staff, wonderful views of the river

Mark Miller

Just found out 3 weeks ago, that I'm a direct descendant of Pochahantas. This made the trip even better! Top notch facilities and knowledgeable staff!

Jeff Cox

Awesome place!! We spent several hours there. Learned a lot!

Dave Lang

Great museum showcasing the archaeological finds on the original Jamestown site.

Phil Neville

Really cool experience. $20 for 16 years old-adults, 15 and under free. Includes access to Yorktown battlefield.

Sharon Rumley

There is a wonderful museum and after a short walk you can explore the original Jamestown settlement. There is a great guided tour of the ongoing excavations. In addition, don't miss a stop at the glass house and take the driving tour if the island.

Chris T

Amazing historical site! Could’ve spent 10+ hours there just talking to all the friendly hosts and guides! Will absolutely be returning to make more memories! Thank you!!

maxwell posival

This is a very interesting part of American history. I was very intrigued by the archaeological findings of Jamestown.

Jon Ward

No military or Veterans discount.... WOW.. WRONG.... Great place to see.

Chuck Friesema

Seeing the first English city in the Americas and how they struggled to survive was very interesting. Plus the archeological digging to find artifacts from the period is very good.

Startdup. com

Great place to learn about history of the first colonies.

Sandy Zimmerman

Always love visiting this place! Junior Ranger badges, Tours, museums and active archaeology digs plus a cafe! Everyone here is so wonderful.

Audrey White

It was very interesting and the park staff were very friendly and informative. Although we have a national park pass we still had to pay $5.00 each as an entrance fee. That’s not what the park pass is for. It’s suppose to be free when entering National parks.

Holly Jenkins

So awesome to learn about history.

Michael Bessent

Interesting museum on site with lots of great exhibits. Unfortunately very little is visible around the actual site which was a little disappointing but it's understandable

Ev Janish

Loved this place. Real history. The National Park Rangers were very informative. Love getting my free National Park stamps.

Randy Brittain

True history of settlement with great artifacts. Introductory video is boring. Enjoy the grounds and dig sites.

D. Michael Franklin

First-source, primary history interpretation, great interpreters, tour guides, and docents, beautiful scenery and historical / archeological finds. This is simply a must-see, no way around it, and you will love it. There is a lot to do, and you can spend a lot of time digging into history here.

Mylene Morrison

Amazing to see the vestiges of the first settlement in the USA.

Lisa Rainwater

Beautiful actually went here a couple years ago but would definitely go back.

LC Reed

Amazing place all families should visit here

Sarah Johnson

Wow! The 'founding' of Virginia and America in one acre. A must see for history people.

Bessie Pennino

We had a fun educational time! So sureal to stand where the first democracy meeting was held. And to stand where such tragedy happened. Also to stand where women came together to fight for peace!

The Trumpet Man

A wonderful piece of history! Love the archaeology museum too!!

NanC

History Matters - and it's exciting to walk where our country in Virginia started. The displays of the archelogoical finds bring life to the stories....especially the glass walks over the foundations. The location along the Mighty James is truly a place where your mind can quiet and step back in time....wonderful visit.

Jim Poznako

The site was awesome and the people on site were very knowledgeable thank you for the experience

Kathleen Koechling

History comes alive with changing programs, ongoing archeology, and a nice museum. There are natural areas with wildlife, such as bald eagles, all on the James River.

Robert Brown

Everything here brings history to life. With so much more being learned all the time visiting never becomes old.

Rita Bruce

Nice park, Good history of use of region unfortunately it includes slavery. Thoughtful mentions of a dark time in human history.

John

I was surprised at how interesting and cool this sight actually is. All Americans should go!

Clayton Mayo
