Where is Cape Henry Lighthouse?

REVIEWS OF Cape Henry Lighthouse IN Virginia

Keyur Parikh

The area entry is governed by military. Overall experience was good. Beautiful view. The steps were a little steep. This is a one time visit type of destination.

Lois Carter

I had an amazing afternoon here. I was able to climb Old Cape Henry.. approximately 192 steps if you count the ones leading up to the lighthouse. I had to stop a couple times to catch my breath but well worth the effort. From the vantage point you get a good view of New Cape Henry Lighthouse which is used by the Coast Guard. After a lovely walk to First Landing made my visit a very enjoyable one. Cost for senior was $13.00. Well worth the visit.

Joseph Mikulski

make sure you have valid ID, fun beautifuL

Wesley Umbower

I had a unique experience visiting the lighthouse. The view from the top of the water is very beautiful, and there is so much history surrounding the lighthouse as well.

Rohith Anand

Nice place to visit.. make sure to be there before 4pm to view it.

Don Langford

It was an amazing view from the top of the lighthouse!! The staff is wonderful and helpful too. Lots of history!!

Trevor Schutte

A very beautiful place and nice beach they allowed dogs there so that was a nice plus

Daphne Long

Hot! Scary

Amanda Saukas

Is on an active military base, so that was interesting to go through. Lighthouse is beautiful!

Lana Purnell

Long walk up but totally worth it

Abhra Sen

Good place ... nice history

Jae Hill

This was a great experience for our family of four with age ranges from 10 to 42. It seemed intimidating but there really aren't that many stairs. It was over before we knew it. But the view at the top is well worth it. I could have stayed up there for a while but I guess I couldn't because it is so hot up there. Overall it was a great experience and we would do it again.

Rick Gunther

Awesome building! Be sure to read the plaques, it will help you to appreciate it. Kind of cool to go see this on active military base. I gave it four stars because you are only allowed to check out the old lighthouse, not the new one.

Mike Wegschaidler

When I first heard of the lighthouse I was excited to see the cape and did not really read into anything about. When I tried to drive to it and got stopped by military personnel I thought I was in the wrong place. But I was not, the lighthouse is on a military base, you need to surrender your DL and take a bus to the lighthouse. The military staff is as friendly as they are allowed to be, but still a huge inconvenience. Then when they drop you off you have to walk through a gift shop and. Pay to get into the lighthouse. Not what I was expecting at all..view was just ok. Definitely something you can skip if you live anywhere near a coastline.

Matthew Heindel

Pretty cool but annoying to get through security to see it.

Valerie Rinta

This is a great place to visit. You get to climb to the top of the old lighthouse!! Lots of interesting historical information here! The staff is super helpful and nice!

Joe Wylen

Very cool area. Definitely worth the trouble of getting there

Martha walker

I was excited to see the light houses. After a pimple faced young soldier, all but, yelled at us while giving instructions It put a sour taste in my mouth He ruined my experience. I know he was doing his job, I am an adult, Don't yell at me.

Virginia Fannin

Just FYI we got to the naval base (where the lighthouse is located) around 6pm and found the lighthouse had closed at 5pm. The man at the guard station said visitors are not allowed on the base even to look at the outside of the lighthouse after it closes...a wasted trip for us.

Leonard Dalenberg

A great historical landmark. I recommend a little bit of research on it and Fort Story where it is located to more appreciate it.

Brittany Purnell

Good location. Good climb. Beautiful views.

Christopher Taylor

Interesting bit o history, First Landing You have to park, get searched and take an escorted shuttle nowadays. So plan extra time for that...

Yor Notroh

Great place to go.

K T

The lighthouse itself is beautiful. It would've been nice to have known two things beforehand: 1) The lighthouse is under construction until Spring 2019. 2) This lighthouse is on an active Navy base. There is strict security. You can not go onto the beach. Your car will be thoroughly searched; no weapons of any kind, drugs, or alcohol. It was a minor inconvenience, and we understood the need for it, however, the gate guard was quite rude. He didn't say a word when we pulled up, we asked if we needed to stop, and he said, "Yes. You stop. License, registration, proof of insurance. What is your purpose here?"

Kerri Smith

I like it that you can explore it without a guide. you see everything at your pace. Ocean View is beautiful it is definitely a must-see if you're near Virginia Beach.

Jesica Thiel

The light house is located on Fort Story Naval Base, so just getting to the lighthouse is a bit of an adventure. Bring your valid IDs and be prepared to have your vehicle searched! There is a nominal fee to enter the lighthouse, but the climb to the top and the view are well worth it.

Grace Irizarry

The place is very well preserved, the staff is friendly and courteous.

Birliban Birliban

Looking nice from the outside, so far only drove by. But... there is a fantastic food truck. Best crab cake ever !!!

Air_Conditioning

This was the first time I went to a military base, and yes this is in a military base. It was a nice experience.

Tommy Isenhour

Cape Henry Lighthouse is currently closed due to work being done. I believe it opens on 5/6/19. You can walk around the area to view both lighthouses and memorials and the boardwalk to the overlook where you can see the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay joining the Atlantic Ocean and you can see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in the distance.

jamaal h

Love a good history lesson

Marcia Doublin

Nice.gift shop. Although I didn't get to.go to the top this time. Just the visualization is amazing alone lots to.see and do in one arena .

Joel Brezinski

Military base, so strict, the lighthouse was cool, bought a compass

Wallysgtr1 .

2 for 1 visit. The old and new lighthouses are about 500 yards from each other. You can climb the old house. The new one is off limits to climbing, but plenty of great photo ops. Have to go through the front gate of the naval base, so have your ID ready. Very kid friendly. Good day trip when in VA Beach.

Patrick Frazier

Great view of the bay and a cool place to visit. Tours of the old lighthouse are about $10, which is pretty reasonable considering there's a lot of money that goes into keeping it maintained. There's a nice beach nearby as well with ample parking available and a nearby gas station that sells cool drinks and ice cream for hot days. Be advised though, that the staircase for the lighthouse is very narrow and steep.

Laurel Burton

This was the first lighthouse the United states ever built. It was the first lighthouse I have ever seen. It was 220 stairs and a 9 wrong ladde to the top. It was beautiful. You see the new one that is the current working lighthouse, although the original has a light and does work, it is not lit. I highly suggest a visit!!

Dawn Jackson

It was my first time visiting and I felt very unwelcom. There was only one person that was polite, everyone else was sterile and rude. The visit was very limited. Don't want to come back. It would have been a better visit if everyone was at least a little bit more welcoming.

Jay Prock

Poor thought out service. Slow. Not good for children under 42 inches tall.

VENITA DeLeon

So we get there, wait for the van (not military, @15min). The van driver was awesome, super sweet lady . She drives us to the dropoff and says the last van leaves at 345(its3pm) first time we are even told this info about the van. Then tells us we cant visit the old lighthouse because it's under renovations and won't open till April. all info that would have been nice to know before we waited and got all the way down there on the bus.Did a quick walk to catch the last bus back which was very packed. Very dissapointed. If the driver of the van hadn't been so nice and funny the trip would have been an utter loss. they should post this info somewhere for people to see on site.

Terri Reis

Beautiful area to visit if you are in Virginia Beach and interested in history. The base is tucked into an area along Coastal Highway. It was worth the visit. Be sure to have your ID on you since it is located on a military base.

Miriam Leah Schwartz

Really beautiful place to visit; we even spotted dolphins in the water. Only thing is, they won't let you up the lighthouse if there's thunder and lightning.

f martinez

This place was nice. The lighthouse wasn’t open to the public to go in so we just went exploring on the beach. When you enter you have to show identification to the Navy officers there. They will take your ID from you and return it when you exit. There is no fee to get in at off-season. They will use a hand held metal detector over your body, once you are cleared you wait for a shuttle bus that brings your though the community and finally close to the lighthouse and beach. Bring your camera and a water bottle; there will be some walking involved.

Tina gol

Very cool to visit something so old and get to go up to the top too! Wonderful views!

V A Riccasola

It was very cool to go and see the lighthouses but they were closed due to the storm that was rolling in. There really wasn't anything else to do in case of inclement weather. The storms only lasted about 20 minutes, but they never reopened the lighthouse while we were there.

Steven Jurca

Had a good time learning about the lighthouse. It was under renovation when we went so we were not able to go up to it or walk the steps to the top, that is why it only has 4 stars. The tour was focused on the history of the lighthouse and the surrounding area, so it was nice to know some detail about the area.

Aaron Cloud

This was a good experience. There's a good view of the ocean here and you can obviously see the lighthouse(s). It sits on a military base and the whole process by how they admit the public is actually very interesting.

Neal Khatiwada

It's located inside a military base. Definitely worth them fondling through your car. It's the first light house made by the USA. It's a surreal experience. I'd go with some time so you can really breathe the concrete from 1800s. You won't regret it!

Lindsey Erwin

It was surprising you have to enter the military base to get there. Take a shuttle, etc. Still worth the trip, but would have like to be prepared for that.

Beth Repass

Interesting to see the lighthouse itself. Just know and understand that this is a military base and that you are restricted to only see and take pictures of the lighthouse. Unfortunately when we went the lighthouse was under construction so we was not able to go inside. But nonetheless interesting.

Vivy D

Beautiful landmark. Closed until later in April 2019 for dune restoration. No access into the lighthouse until then.

Jim M

Staff were friendly, pleasant and informative. Great visit!!

Vineet Yadav

The light house is like any other light house, nothing special about it. The efforts to get there were not worth it for us. Since it is located in military base, you have to go through security gate. They will keep your ID cards and return you on your departure. After security gate you have to go through another security line and then wait for the bus. If you haven't seen any light house before then go for it else there are many other options near Virginia Beach to spend time.

Toby Phillips

Great old lighthouse but no area for great photos. If looking for photos walk down side street for better photos and save the $10 admission fee.

Rick Carnagey

Currently closed inside lighthouse for remodeling until 2019 spring. You can see both lighthouses and visit the gift shop. Not allot else to do here. Shuttles leave every 15 minutes. Need ID to get on the post.

Emily Lance

Have Been Here Almost Every Time I Go to See the Sand Sculptures in Va Beach for King Neptune Festival

Pam Cunningham

Awesome lighthouse. Men working in the gift were so kind and helpful.

Gabriel Rodriguez

The view from the Lighthouse is kind of cool, but not that wow experience.

Edie Koenig

It's on an active military base. All adults are required to show and temporarily give up their ID for a shuttle ride to and from the lighthouse and the First Landing memorial.

Aaron Brown

Manager of this site is great. We stopped by after hours and she took the time to explain all of the sites history. Very informative and loves her job. Hopefully next time we'll make in during operational hours to get an inside tour. Great place for photos any time of day.

Elizabeth Russell

This light house is located on a US Military base, Fort Story. If you do not have a CAC or Military ID you will need to take a shuttle ride from the gate at the end of Atlantic Ave. There is several nearby points of interest (couple hundred yards from light house) you can walk to to look out over the Chesapeake Bay. They are working on the light house foundation and until they finish, you cannot go in the light house but the foundation work should be finished around April/May 2019,

Jason Ciaschi

Disappointing. We decided we had some time to kill so why not check out a nearby lighthouse. Upon entering we are stopped by military. Little did we know this is a military base. No big deal, they take our license and explain where we can go and where we can't. Once the shuttle arrives we head to the lighthouse. Unfortunately it's $10 just to see the thing, no not climb it just see it. We had our 13 month old with us and we weren't allowed to carry her so the whole point of coming is now lost. So we walk around and read some signs about history. If you are into history you would like it but we just wanted to see the lighthouse. Then we walk to an overlook to see the ocean. It's a great view, but the only good part of the trip. We have been to several lighthouses and many charge a fee to climb but you can usually walk around the bottom for free. See the attached picture, you can't even see the bottom of this lighthouse as the brush is so overgrown. Overall a waste of time and I will not be back.

jd88 b

This is on a military base. You will be required to go through a check point. Beautiful views. Going to the top of the lighthouse was great.

Sara Jacobs

The tour was inexpensive and the view was breathtaking,... Well worth the trip.

De Ette Phillips

Its beautiful. I love it here.

Hetameme e

It was freakin' awesome, well mainly cause of the history.

Edna Eaton

Absolutely beautiful. Loved the history monuments. Memorial Park was great. Lighthouse view was breathtaking but slot of steps!

Tim DeLong

Very disappointed. Could not enter the base. The "sentry" at the gate was unreasonably to say the least. Seems like his job was to not let anyone In. Two cars ahead of us were not let in. Turned around and left. Then was a police vehicle. They chatted for a while and he went in. Then was a couple on bicycles. The "sentry" starts every sentence with "the first problem I have" is you do not have proper footwear. I dont know what they were wearing but seems like a foolish reason to be turned away. They had to leave. Next was our turn. The first problem he had was do we have any weapons, drugs, etc. Which we did not. His next problem was did we see the stop sign. Well of course we saw the stop sign. We were waiting in line. Well apparently we were to wait at the stop sign and not creep along behind the car in front us. I only did what the cop car in front of me did and while he was giving me attitude about it, I looked in my mirror and there was a mail truck behind me that was past the stop sign and right behind me. We got turned away. I asked him if he was going to make the mail truck turn around too? Just seemed ridiculous to us. Again, very disappointed.

Tina Musgrove

Beautiful view. Interesting stories shared with us by historians, not just tour guides. You have to go through the military base so be prepared for security and I recommend a Groupon to save on admission. You can get 4 people in for $18 on Groupon.

Heather

Make sure you have your ID! Would visit again.

Cathy M

All adults must have a valid ID to enter the base and submit to an inspection prior to catching the shuttle. If you wish to go up in the lighthouse, there is a fee of $10/ person. Discounts for kids, seniors, and AAA members. The walk out to Battle of the Cape Monument and site of the first Landing is worth the trip. We visited on 5/3/19 and loved it. We were there for 2 hours.

Amanda Steinmiller

Beautiful view and well worth the steps to get to the top. It's a beautiful piece of history!

Robert Lewis

This lighthouse is so cool to see in person. I'm a ship captain and have a special place in my heart for lighthouses. This is one of the best kept lighthouses I've seen. The guides are very knowledgeable and can answer almost any question you throw at them. There are about 190 stairs from the bottom to the top, but they go by faster than you expect. This is a must see if you're in the area.

Cheryl

The view from the top was beautiful. The spiral staircase is an architectural work of art. They had to keep people out while we were there because heat factor was high making it 125° inside, at the top. But we actually got to tour inside. They closed it after we got out.

robot 246loop

Its good but scary

Brittany Evans

I will preface this by saying I am by no means a history buff. With that said, I really enjoyed the Cape Henry lighthouse. The workers are very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the gift shop has a plethora of souvenirs for children and adults. It is on a military base so all adults need a valid ID and you cannot take any large bags up into the lighthouse (so if you bring them they will have you leave it in the gift shop).

Ivonne M Otero

Beautiful! So peaceful, clean and out of this world.

Aldis Pavulans

Bring Your ID You enter a military base and then charge is $10.

Pat Duncan

Awesome but be prepared to walk steps 110 up

Jitka Kacerova

No need to be discouraged by military procedures to go here. You just need to pass safety check and leave your ID with the officers, than a shuttlebus takes you to the lighthouse. It's a naval base so you're instructed where you are allowed to go and where not. You can climb the old lighthouse, go to the memorial park and beach observation. There is a gas station with restrooms, you are just not allowed to purchase tobacco and alcohol in there. Fun for an hour or so.

Lena Jackson

I'm in a wheelchair so I had to take my family's word for it. They said it was hot in the lighthouse and too many steps! Lol My husband enjoyed himself. He loved the views.

T

The men in the gift shop were nice and the lady who gave us our tour was amazing! But... until the construction on the light house is over in spring of 2019, you’re literally spending $10 for a 20 minute tour where a tour guide is reading plaques that any person walking around the base could read for themselves... I’m not sure how a business owner is okay with charging full price when the main attraction is not available for the tour, only excuse is bad business. Definitely a waste of money until the lighthouse is back in operation. Sorry to be so blunt, I just hate seeing people get ripped off.

Gerard Capra

Great visit for all ages. About 80 stairs to the lighthouse and another 108 to the top of the lighthouse. Worth the climb for the view. The park and lighthouse on on a military base, so you have a security checkpoint and no wondering around.

john fisco

We got there late, and i didnt realize that the lighthouse was on a military site, we went in got searched but it made no sense to go all the way to the lighthouse for 10 minutes, the officer s, where all real cool, but maybe next time..

Shonda Milligan

I'm a lighthouse fan, so of course I found this place to be fun and exciting! You can walk up to the top and get a birdseye view of your surroundings. The staff in the gift shop was friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed it!

Matt Taylor

Didn't realize this was on a military base, be ready to provide your driver's license, car registration and insurance. There is a short shuttle ride to the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is pretty cool, especially given how long ago it was built. The views from the top are impressive, but it does require climbing stairs.

Ty Klump

Very windy and cold today. At least no rain.

Glenda Ward

The old lighthouse in the left and the newer one on the right. Didn't get to go inside them but they were interesting from the outside.

Colleen Garrett

Great to visit - for some, there may be too many steps.

Korren Golden

Pretty cool little light house for a short trip. Doesn't even take a half day. I will say if you're a civilian it may or may not be worth it. But as a military member it made getting on base much easier.

Johnathon Dean

Very wet, very cold, awesome part of history. Gift shop randomly closes early so watch out

bboggs1978

Very nice...any visitors age 18+ must show ID because it's located on active base. Gift shop is great for unique gifts, all price ranges, nothing unreasonably priced.

ed wright

This is an experience. On an active military base so bring ID and prepare to be searched. Well worth it. 208 steps to the top. Views are worth every step.

Lee Hallett

The lighthouse climb was almost too much. Bad vertigo coming down. Great views.

Doha

The older light house will be accessible at the end of April 2019. We’ll return then to check out the view from the top. Make sure everyone over the age of 18 brings id! Our vehicle was not checked despite some of the comments that cars were inspected. Although we went on a very slow gloomy Saturday morning.

Jody Williams

Great history and cool lighthouses

Elisa Kemper

We went on a good day. Climbed the old lighthouse and got pictures of the inside and outside and the new lighthouse.

Curt Burrell

Absolutely beautiful lighthouse. Weren't able to climb because of construction, but it was nice to walk around and look. It is on military base so you have drive through licence check and have id. Park close and then shuttled to the lighthouse.

Eugene Ruiz

Wonderful views! Great place to take family!

Aaron Koehler

Very neat historical place. Lighthouse under restoration so couldn't do the tour but a must see place for history lovers.

Craig Bogart

A pleasant visit after the pat down by the US Navy to enter the base. The guides were very knowledgeable about the site & very polite. The sights from the lighthouse were awesome. Definitely worth your time.

Shane Whitehurst

We got there 10 minutes til closing, was told to read the sign at the gate by want to be military personnel, took my driver's license, ran my tags, instructed me to follow him as he walked in pattern of u-turn. You can come back at 10 a.m., I don't think so barney and cut your fingernails.

David Cook

It is on a military base and they temporarily hold your id. Check for hours. 79 steps walk up from the ground to the lighthouse. Once up on the hill where the lighthouse is located, inside is a tight spiral wrought iron staircase (115 steps inside to the top). Gift shop is cool. That is where you pay to go to the lighthouse. Discounts like AARP and AAA are accepted.

David Wolf

Great beach. If you have a military ID it's a lot less crowded than all the public beaches. Even on a holiday weekend it didn't have very many people there.

matthew Albrecht

Great view very entertaining but at the top there were wasps which hastened our visit

Jennifer Henning

Wasn't sure how to rate this. Its listed as a public place to visit but it is not public. It is on a military base and the security is something we weren't prepared for. I have much respect for the men and women serving to protect us and they definitely were not letting anyone in who didn't belong. Definitely doing their job! Perhaps this location should be disclosed as a military base on Google and VA Beach websites so guests aren't thinking they drove into a restricted area by accident. We thought we were in trouble for trying to go see the lighthouse...

Kelly Strange

Very interesting! Wish we could have went in the lighthouse but well worth the time. The shuttle bus driver was great!

Jason Redlinger

Had a great time climbing the lighthouse and seeing the first landing memorial. Very nicely done. Just make sure you have your id with you to get onto the military base. I wasnt aware of that part when I purchased a groupon to go into the lighthouse.

Adam Young

It was neat to see the history of it but the way the guards treated everyone coming on base was a little unnecessary. Rude to say the least

Jewell Adkins

Took my family (16) on the tour and they had a blast. Once in a life time experience.

Ketaki Toye

This lighthouse is on an active military base and you must go through security. Be prepared to provide your ID, car registration, and proof of auto insurance. They will also ask you to open all car doors, trunk, hood, etc for an inspection. It is a very old but well kept up light house. You climb a spiral staircase and then go up a ladder and then more stairs. The views are extraordinary and well worth the climb

Jae Geon Kim

Um..It's a military area, so you can't go around freely, but you can see history.

Cali Helgesoon

SO MANY STEPS! GREAT VIEW!!!

Mona Diaz

Breathtaking view and an interesting piece of history. The lighthouse is on a military base. Civilians are restricted to the lighthouse and surrounding monuments. The lighthouse is located next to First Landing State Park.

Sherri Repnow

Pretty cool to be able to climb up into the first lighthouse on US soil

Bianca v

It waa closed for renovations after I purchased tickets on Groupon to visit it. A hollata nothing to do but still with passion it can be something u won't forget

Gavin Binner

You can learn alot about light houses most people did not know. A lot of history

Debi Lynn

Ok. But not free like online says. It cost $10 for adults to go inside.

Lori Howard

Very cool place to visit and completely uncrowded. You have to enter via Fort Story, which is a working military base, so do be prepared for the search of your car and have your ID and car registration / insurance card / rental agreement at the ready. Just standing where the colonists first landed was amazing for me. I love history.

Wendy Shambaugh

Awesome history and experience, wonderful staff

Aaron Green

The light house is very cool. The security to get there is kinda ridiculous. You must have an I.D. and take the bus they provide. It wasn't too bad overall but be ready for extra steps to get through security.

Rick Pohlsander

Lots of cool stuff to see here. The architecture of this lighthouse is impressive.

Ckloe Dane

Such a cool place to visit. It's $10 to climb the lighthouse and it is so worth it.

Brook Guidry

Great to visit this history. Beautiful scenery.

Morislava Medina

Beautiful place 100% recommended

Russ Keefer

It's nice and well preserved... the newer light house across from it is awesome but can not be viewed as it is a working light house. There is also a neat inlet to the water with a small beach at this site. Anyone in the Virginia Beach area should visit this at least once.

Andi DuVal-Vaughan

We loved the lighthouse and the tour we took. You appreciate history the older you get.

Kevin Dirksen

Great renovation and updats to the site. Always a favorite.

Susie Crews

This would be great if you didn't have to go thru getting on a military base. Lots of steps.

Ethan Ackerman

Amazing history, scenic location. Just a heads up it is on a military base. Didnt know that before.

Seth Shaffer

The history of the light house was cool. The strict rules to get to it on the other hand were not. It's military fort so it's gated by military personnel. The gates open at 10am so if your like me you cannot access it at 5am for morning photography. If you walk out of the specified area you get a trespassing charge on government grounds. The walk to the top is hot.

Aj Phillips

A good look into history.

Xclusive dt

It was nice, but it's on a active military base so you have to give them your I'd and she proof for your car. The old light house is under remodeling so you want be to see it til June. The beach is off limits too.

Steven Walters

2 beautiful lighthouses. Both are on military property. A bus will shuttle you to the lighthouses. 1 house is open to climb to the top. Government issues photo ID is required!!!

John Nguyen

Nice lighthouse within Fort Story. Easy access with shuttle after clearing security. 1 hr guided tour available.

Jeremy Lichliter

Great place to visit. It’s easy to get to; however, you have to go through security to get on base to see the lighthouse...not a big deal. Nice views from the top of the lighthouse, though it gets pretty hot up there at the top in the summer.

Tam Hicks

The light house is definitely a site to see! We were prepared to show our military I.D. cards after viewing the website. You will have your car searched. Have proof of registration along with your driver's license to gain access to the base. We were not allowed to climb the lighthouse because there was a thunderstorm looming. I was surprised to learn that there is a height requirement to be able to climb so my son would not have been able to go up anyway. He's 4. The gift shop was nice, pricey but nice with lots of souvenirs. Overall we got some good pictures outside. Call before you go!

Melanie Olsen

To see this lighthouse you will need to go through a military checkpoint. They will search your car and give strict instructions. It was not horrible to go through this checkpoint. So please don't let that deter you from visiting! The store had a lot of wonderful things to buy. Everyone was informative and pleasant. Will definitely go back!

Ashleigh Baswell

It's really awesome to learn about the history and to climb to the top and look out at the bay. Staff is super friendly.

Winifred J Ankney

Have to be able to walk a lot. Interesting History. Great view of the ocean. Be prepared to be scanned and driven by bus to the lighthouse.

Joshua Blessing

Never mentioned that it was located on base so if you have a felony you are not allowed to go see it wasted alot of time and had the military run my stuff

Jesse Van Harlinger

An easy and tranquil place. There's a small gift shop that you walk through to get to the light house. There's a 10 dollar fee to enjoy the structure. There's a steep and winding stair case that goes to the top, so older folks be weary. It' a great view from the top!

Tammy Ross-Smith

Kind of pricy to climb a bunch of stairs. Pretty.

Cassie Carpenter

Sad and happy it's under restoration right now but beautiful structure

Toni Rivera Bryant

Love the base and lighthouses.

Bryon Bell

Couldn't go inside, it was closed due to the high heat index (it's basically a brick oven in there). The site is beautiful, and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Be prepared for the fact that you have to enter a US Military base in order to get to the lighthouses. That means if you don't have military ID you'll have to show ID, proof of vehicle registration and insurance, and submit to a quick vehicle inspection at the guard post. The Navy personnel who did this were super friendly, so don't let the slight inconvenience stop you from visiting. It's worth it.

Scott Daniels

All staff, military and civilian were very courteous and friendly. Views were breathtaking and spectacular and the history of the lighthouses was humbling.

Rafael Cano

Great place to see the dolphins on the bay

Lisa Allen

Wonderful history. Plus got two more stamps for our lighthouse passport book.

James Fischer

Visited with grandchildren to learn the history. They too enjoyed the visit.

Nick Kopanski

Although I did not go inside, I did sit outside of it and took some pictures. Pretty neat. Also there is a coast guard tower just across the street. Would be cool if they let you go into theirs, bit it's off limits. Another cool thing is there is beach access not even 300 feet from the cape Henry lighthouse.

Andrew Smith

A little pricey to go to the lighthouse but the walk around the Naval Base was very enjoyable!

Becky Nicholson

The lighthouse was wonderful because you were allowed to climb the stairs and the ladder without anybody telling you what to do. You could look out at the top and spend as much time as you wanted to be there. The view was magnificent. We enjoyed the whole event

Very nice and cool place.

It has nice views but takes a while to reach because of navy inspections.

Theresa Reekie

Nice thing to do when vacationing.

Saw the dolphins. But we didn't know that the site is in a military base. It is a little bit tedious to enter.

It's the history of this particular Lighthouse that makes it a gem to visit. Plus you are literally on a military base.
