Our experience was unfriendly. We here some good things about this place and the experience. The grounds were well kept. The last at the ticket booth was not very friendly or helpful. I realized she probably was asked there same questions all day and they had signs with all the information but she was grumpy. Maybe she was just having a bad morning as it was only about 10 after opening. Any how went into the visitors center and while more helpful not to us but others, they too were very short with the answers or comments. We decided not to take this experience hoping to be able to come back at a later time and maybe have everyone in a better mood. There was plenty of parking and the cost seemed to range from$8 to $14 depending on what you wanted too do. There was a cost too enter the grounds. Dogs are not allowed. There were no student discounts at the farms but there are huge discounts at the museum.
Really nice walking area, good cheese and jam in the store
Beautiful place, with friendly staff. Great time for children and adults.
Awesome place to visit. Great history
Great trip for the whole family, came back for dinner at the inn, and it did not disappoint
Amazing oatmeal cookies and it has fresh bread ! Super kid friendly
Great for children with the animals at the barn. Miles of excellent groomed walking trails. Spectacular grounds, both scenery, and architecture.
A stunningly beautiful and expansive property, Shelburne Farms is an absolute staple of the region and a must-visit site for both locals and tourists alike. From the gorgeous views overlooking the lake, to the hilltop vistas of the green mountains, the small bakery and various other hidden gems, Shelburne Farms is a fantastic spot to spend a day walking around - even if just to take in the meticulously maintained grounds.
Very interactive farm with cheese making, animals to pet and presentations on the herbal and edible gardens. LOTS of walking stroller safe, kid friendly- even/groomed trails. Make reservations in advanced for breakfast at the hotel/lodge on the lake. Pricy but a beautiful historic dining room of a mansion- open with french doors to flowing lawns and walk down to the lake. Serves specialty alcoholic drinks. All food locally sourced, mostly grown on the farm. Probably the best part if the visit- reservations required!
Beautiful place to visit. Great for kids as there is a petting zoo, cheese tasting. They have a food cart which had a few snack options which was nice too. You could also stay at their Inn which will let you take your car into the farms. If you are an external visitor you will need to use their shuttle service.
Always have a good time
Shelburne farms is one of the most incredible places I have EVER visited. From the Inn to the education to the dining it is all just unbelievable to take it all in.
We spent the most wonderful day here! I loved seeing the animals and the views are just beautiful. I went in the fall and it was just gorgeous. Allot a few hours because I could have stayed all day!
Beautiful farm country that borders the lake. Amazing views.
Terrible service. We were wrongly informed at the kiosk, and most of the staff were unhelpful and rude. If you are willing to walk or get crushed in a tractor in hot, humid, weather, visit shelbourne. On top of all of this, there is no view of the lake.
My whole life I didn't know that farms were real. Until last week when I went here and saw disgusting one would be in real life. If you care about what is good, never go here.
The corn bread at the food truck there is amazing. You must get some.
Gorgeous place! Quintessential Vermont. If you are a tourist visiting, this should definitely be one of your stops!
Love to walk the grounds.
Great place for a family outing!
Gorgeous spot for a long walk...
Had a great time with the grandchildren seeing all the farm
Fun apple picking!!
Such a beautiful place. A gem in my own backyard! Would definitely visit again.
Go for a few hours or spend the day! Great for all ages to visit!
Great farm, excellent cheese, nice tour of the farm bakery and cheese making . Nice giftshop
Went here with my oldest son for a school field trip. There wasn't a lot for the kids to do but what was there kept them entertained.
You can easily spend half the day here. The guide was knowledgable. The Inn has a beautiful view. Restaurant staff were wonderful and so was the food.
A fun way to spend a few hours with a toddler- she got to feed a cow, pet a bunch of farm animals, and run around without having to work about cars. The bakery was very good, though the food truck was all sandwiches.
Excellent cheeses.
good for family
Great for young kids. Free cheese samples. Lots of opportunities to interact with the animals and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We loved it!
Beautiful!
This is such a beautiful setting on Lake Champlain. The barns have unique architecture. I love taking my Grandkids here to see the animals.
Use the walking trails frequently
Great place to visit. Great for landscape inspiration; visit animals; hike and learn some history.
Great place,to go!!!!!
I love Shelburne Farms. I worked a season here. Great cheese, farm fresh vegetables and creative cuisine. Original farm to table.
This is not just any farm tour. A National historic landmark 1400 acres and, an hour long tour of Shelburne Farms was worth the money. A visit to the cheese factory and at the end cheese tasting was a welcoming treat. Love the views on the property. Overlook Lake Champlain was gorgeous and romantic. The grounds, animals, sheep & cows spread out. On a lush green land. The end of the tour got to taste their famous cheese with the hot red pepper jam from SideHill Farm is awesome. Kid friendly place for the whole family. The inn is an added family getaway.
I absolutely love this place. The trails are amazing to walk, the food at the inn is delicious, and the environment at the farm barn is so fun. I have taken a number of out of town family members here and frequently take my 3 year old and he doesn't seem to get tired of it. There is also food at the farmbarn, the bakery is good, though sometimes the bottoms of the cookies get a little burnt, and the farm cart is tasty though expensive. There are amazing places to plan to have a picnic all over the property.
Seeing the Brown Swiss cows was a treat; plus the people in the cheese house were very good at explaining the cheese making process. Best for kids/families.
The grounds are breathtaking! Food was pretty good, I had rolled oat risotto that was amazing.
Uniquely Vermont institution with multiple venues. Great with kids on a gorgeous day.
This is a beautiful farm with plenty of space to walk, experience, and learn.
Absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful views everywhere. Obvious that there is much care into the maintenance of this vast property. What a wonderful place. I look forward to returning next year.
One of my favorite places in the state. The walking trails are well maintained, and the views are gorgeous. The old barn, Inn, and coach house are remarkable set into the rolling hills of the property. During the off-season, you can bring your dog's hear, and do some snowshoeing too. Great year round entertainment
A peaceful, fun, beautiful place. Great for kids, lots of animals, cheese, and a great bakery!
Pretty, don’t go after 1pm everything is closed even though they are open till 5. Not as much to see as I thought disappointed.
Wonderfully presented; I had a lot of fun playing with the sheep and milking a cow.
Amazing walks breathtaking views of the mountains and Lake Champlain.
We got some great organic chedar cheese here.
Got there early to beat the educational group crowd. Extremely tranquil, animals are very used to people and friendly and approachable. Facilities were very clean, staff was very nice. All around a great experience!
Beautiful, peaceful place to visit
Fantastic walking trails. Views of Green Mountains, Adirondacks and Lake. Loads of activities for the whole family.
Views are incredible, staff is delightful and the food/beverage are always amazing! Love that they have fun for kids and adults, its such a wonderful property.
Beautiful grounds to take a stroll. Make sure you go up to Lone Tree Hill as that's where you get a beautiful view of the lake.
A beautiful property with lots to see and do. This is a great place to take a walk or hike one the many trails. Views of the lake from the ornamental gardens are great and their is wonderful food at the bakery and farm store.
Great place takes more than 1 day
Took the cheese tour, it was fun and educational. The guide did a good job and was able to answer questions. The cheese tasting was delicious, I would have loved some wine with it. We got to see lots of cows and even helped feed them and watch the milking. Plus, at the end, 1/2 lb of cheese for free. Win!
What a lovely place to walk, eat and shop in Shelburne, VT.
Great farm run by very kind people. Great place to bring the kids. They have cows, sheep, chickens, and other animals to interact with. My son got to milk a cow. Def worth the visit.
Outstanding cheeses !
Beautiful views.
This is a beautiful and outstanding working farm with so many programs going on.I took the cheese tour which showed us all the steps of making their famous cheeses, plus seeing the cows and babies and milking operation.I love how they are committed to sustainable humane clean agriculture and will now buy their products. The farm barn is a beautiful incredible building!
Gorgeous property with incredible views! If you are.new to Vt or just visiting you MUST visit Shelburne farms and see the WHOLE property! It's magical to say the least!
It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Absolutely stunning and a must visit if you’re I town. Drive or walk through the farm and enjoy the scenic view. The lake looks gorgeous from here ♥️
Very nice inn
Absolutely a must-visit place in Vermont. Family-friendly with logs of activities to try: milking a cow, petting sheep, cheese-making tours, wine & cheese pairing, shopping their lovely products- jams, maple syrup, trinkets, souvenirs. Its picturesque farm-estate.
Great place to go and spend the day. We had fresh bread and cheese for lunch
Of you love nature, it's one of the most perfect places in all of Vermont.
One of my favorite places with kids.
One of the best places in Vermont! A must if you are in the Burlington area. Lots of beautiful scenery. A great way to teach kids and family about the importance of agriculture. Be sure to check out the Inn and the Bakery if you do visit Shelburne Farms!
Super fun place to spend the day with the family. Cheesemaking, a great food truck, cow milking, all sorts of farm animals, and lots of educational material.
Beautiful farm and grounds!
Great!! Fun!! Great people and animals!!
beautiful place
Never went in.
Great place for the young or old. Many nice surprises.
This place was amazing. Saw the chicken parade, lessened good they make cheese, I milked a cow, it was just incredible. Can't wait to come back with children!
Awesome place to bring kids.
Great experience, up close with the animals. Kid friendly. Friendly staff that know there stuff
Delightful farm! A must visit if near Shelburne, VT.
This was an amazing trip for not too much. My daughter is only 18 months but there were tons of things she could do and she had a great time with the animals!
Such an amazing place to hang out
Wow! Dining in history. Come hungry for dinner. Food was amazing, but try get there before dark so you can enjoy the sights and not rely on headlights to read direction signs. A must stop if you are in the Burlington area.
Go here, you won't regret it. Really magical.
Absolutely fantastic experience for adults as well as kids. Farm hands were knowledgeable, nice and really enjoyed what they did. Kids get to chase chickens, milk a cow, brush and pet calves and donkeys, and there are plenty of trails to walk.
LOVE this little piece of Heaven
Great for walking and kids
Fantastic place, great history, beautiful grounds. Two caveats to keep it from 5 stars. One, no A/C at the Inn. I knew that going in, and luckily the two nights we stayed there, temps were ok. But a few days later there was an extreme heat wave in the area (my phone said "feels like 107"!). Had we been there at that time, there is no way we would have been able to stay. I understand the landmark status and all that, but there HAS to be a way to run A/C into this place. Also, we had breakfast and dinner there. Was ok, but nothing to write home about and I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a special event.
A slight rain in the morning meant a small group. The farm crew made us feel like VIPs. Our child was engaged and learning. We were, too. Turned out to be the best choice to go despite the drizzle.
A MUST see for anyone visiting this region. Another Vanderbilt gem of the past
Cows, horses, chickens... It's a great farm, couldn't pull her away.
Fun family friendly place. Good for walking leisurely, art and site seeing.
Highly recommend the tour.
Beautiful place. Fun for kids. VEry hands on
Very friendly informative staff! Had a great time exploring the area and meeting the animals!
Something different, some interesting thi mgs to see, especially for kids.
Amazing walk and cool to see a working farm. The bakery is a must.
Great cheese, wonderful atmosphere.
Shelburne Farms is magical. First of all, it's pretty cheap to get in. It's less than $10 per person to spend an entire day here. Once you get your ticket, you can walk to the farm or get transported by a tractor. Since the property is HUGE, I'd wait to be transported. Once you're at the massive historic farm that looks more like a castle, you'll be entertained for hours. They have chickens, rabbits, cows, donkeys, horses, sheep...so many animals that you can pet. They have programming throughout the day. Our daughter loved the chicken egg hunting! There's a farm-to-table food truck there every day serving burgers, sandwiches, etc. In the back of the property is the inn, which is beautiful. There's a general store at the entrance/exit that sells jams, honey, and cheese. THE CHEESE! It is AMAZING! Eat all the free samples plus more.
Wonderful place for families of all ages!
If you are bringing kids, plan to spend the morning here, if not all day. My kids had a blast exploring every nook and cranny of the Children's Farmyard. If you plan to do any trails in addition to the Children's Farmyard, the map can be deceiving and distances are a little longer than they seem.
It's a great learning place with hands on activities
Very nice.Kids enjoyed it
Wonderful place for anyone. Animals, cheese tasting and the views from everywhere.
Definitely a beautiful landscaped property. But wee were very dispointed with the tour as we were expected to see actual workings of this farm. Fast pass by the dairy farm with no visit. Only saw one employee working the cheese through the glass. The Inn is beautiful but not happy to see that they had four bee and wasp traps on the main lawn. They were full of thousands of dead insects. So much for a sustainable living agricultural community farm. Maybe they should add bee hives to the farm instead of killing the insects that polinate the beautiful garden the guests can enjoy. After all it is due to them you even have a garden.
Such an interesting and fun place for kids and their adults
This was a lovely place to visit for the afternoon! We got see how a cow is milked, have some real farm fresh food, pet some happy animals, and just enjoy the beautiful Vermont late summer weather. Would highly recommend!
A wonderful experience. Visit the site, take a tour or stay overnight. Beautiful manor house overlooking the Adirondacks mountains of New York across Lake Champlain. I have stay in the manor house and cabins. Both great accommodations. Food and service are excellent.
Amazing views wonderful trails and food for purchase
The Harvest of September 2019 was very disappointing. The hay maze was missing again and this was the sole reason from bringing kids to the event. This year all that was offered was the same daily offering that Shelburne offers on a daily basis plus a bunch of over priced food vendors. For instance, an apple with caramel was $5. And sugar cotton ball was more expensive than what you would get at the champlain valley fair. Very likely not going again.
Wonderful place to walk around, enjoy the relaxing time in the park, many events for kids with animals. Taking tracker(shuttle) was also great fun. Having drinks at shelburn farm watching the beautiful sunset was super cool. I appreciate my friends who took me here. We had such great time here.
It was great, Bruce (in the wood shop) took time to share with me some of his techniques
Our kids had such a fun day there and learned so much. Seeing all the animals, holding chickens, milking cows, seeing cheese get made. It was so much fun.
Grab a coffee and croissant and go for a nice walk. Turkeys may follow!
Absolutley incredible! Amazing, dedicated staff and breathtaking facility!
nice views, great fall colors and atmosphere
Fabulous in many ways - the farm is green, self-sustaining, beautiful architecture- designed by Olmstead and Robertson
Could soend all day wandering around this beautiful property.
Pretty place, but it was a bit underwhelming. Our lunch at the food cart was awful. Way over cooked burgers that my son couldn’t eat and I forced down because I was hungry, but it was almost inedible. My wife had the turkey sandwich which was nothing special at all.
Huge place with lots to do for all ages. Very fun time.
Best place in Vermont to walk, buy bread and cheese, and pet lambs.
Such a beautiful place... lots of open spaces and trails to walk. Plenty of great views and places to explore. If you are visiting Vermont, this is definitely something you want to schedule on your itinerary.
We had an awesome day at the farm. We learned so much about how cheddar cheese is made. We did a tasting and bought some cheese to take home. We visited the animals and I had fun holding Pearl the chicken. We had a great lunch made from farm products. Try the lamb pastrami sandwich. The bacon cheeseburger was so yummy. Also there is a bakery that makes incredible croissants.
Beautiful place, wonderful staff. Interesting history w/ a great mission for modern farming.
beautiful for a late October hike! lots of trails --walking along the lake, shaded forests and rolling fields with sheep. the historic and cultural landmarks scattered along the way add to the enjoyment.
Beautiful views!! The history and farmhouse were wonderful!!
Enjoyed delicious cocktails and strolling the grounds! Wonderful, helpful staff!
Educational farm with lots of activities for kids and beautiful trails.
We had a wonderful guide for our tour. A highlight of our journey so far.
Great place to bring the grandkids
Visit if you are ignorant and don’t care about animal well being. Cows are constantly attached to machinery between bars with barely any space to move. Horrible. It’s almost 2020 get with the program. #non-dairy #crueltyfree
Great fun for the kids in summer.
Enlightening and beautiful farm provides a broad experience in ethical farming practices and the many wholesome aspects of Vermont.
Very quaint little town with many artists shops, book stores, restaurants, pubs. School for swedish weaving.
Cool farm and historical location, great views. Can be walking intensive FYI
Fun family spot! Loved the animals, cheese and trails!
These guys don't put a foot wrong – set in 1400 acres of woodlands, immaculately maintained, a working farm where you can get up close to the animals (including miniature donkeys!), bakery, cheesemaking. Even the food from the on-site food truck was delicious.
It is great.
Great education, activities all day every half hour. Lots of hiking and wildlife. Stellar staff, that was knowledgeable and devoted to sharing their experiences.
Very friendly staff, an amazing place for young kids. Lots of animals - sheep, chickens, turkey, rabbit and few more. We saw cow milking, which was a new experience. Cheese factory tour was knowledge
So pretty and delicious food at the restaurant!
Fantastic experience every time we go. Such a wondergul place.
Gorgeous property, which you can enjoy for free! Great trails and a bakery on site.
We are members and go there often. It is a lovely place to walk... a long walk through winding paths to the lake and back. There is a nice gift shop too.
This is a great place to take kids! We spent the whole morning here and still didn't see everything. There are some packed gravel walking trails that are fine for strollers. We walked out to the barn area and rode the wagon back. The bakery in the farm area was a welcome surprise with French pastries that tasted like the ones in France! We loved the chicken parade and checking the coop for eggs and getting to milk the cow. The play areas for kids are awesome and there are so many hands on learning displays all over. We had lunch at the farm cart and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend a visit here with the whole family! You could easily spend the whole day here and not get bored.
Visiting Shelburne Farms is a great way to spend the day for the whole family. First stop is always the farm store with those amazing cheddars to sample, variety of jams & mustards, purchase your guided tour tickets, and so much more. Next off to the Farm Barn that has farm animals for the kids to see & pet, the cheese maker and what I think is some the best made bread know to humankind at O Bread bakery. Three words for you - Chile Cheese Ciabatta! Then you head back to The Inn & Restaurant that is overlooking Lake Champlain with guest rooms & cottages for staying on site and a farm to table restaurant that serves amazing meals. The 1,400 acre farm has miles of walking trails so you can discover the many more facilities and history of the farm like the Coach Barn, Old Dairy Barn, The Breeding Barn, etc. This is a seasonal location (usually May-October) so check their online calendar for upcoming events which are a plenty. Always look forward to going back after every visit.
The grounds, inn, and gardens are breath-taking! The view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks from the gardens are absolutely gorgeous! The tours at 10:30, 12:30, and 2:30 are fantastic! Such a great way to see the farm, learn about the history, and learn about their sustainable education programs. Our tour guide, Pat, was extremely knowledgeable about each aspect of the farm's current endeavors and its history in the Vanderbilt/Webb family.
Very interesting- kiddie animal section was really cute!
Fun interacting with the animals and learning about them!
An amazing 1400 acre farm that offer guded tours or you can explore it yourself. Lots of farm animals on site from chickens, cows, sheep, lambs, goats and pigs. They offer viewing demonstration such as milking cows and much more. The views while walking along the trails are absolutely AMAZING especially when you make it to the coast line.
Well worth the general entry fee. The staff are all clearly happy with what they do and willing to answer any questions visitors have.
Great experience
Great place to bring your kids for a few hours. To check out various farm animals and milk the cow Brewer!!! See how cheese is made and to sample the yummy cheese!!!! Awesome gift shop you gotta try the Adventures in Granolas they sell there look for the farm display!!! And amazing views that are even better in the fall!!!!
Great experience, toddler-friendly environment. Bakery on the pricey side and not too many food options, but feel free to bring your own food.
Went for the Vermont Cheesemaker's festival. Nice event on Shelbourne farms. Beautiful sitting. Enjoyable afternoon tasting gourmet foods, cheese, wine, beer and spirits. On the shore of lake Champlain.
Great intro into the grand property of the "gentleman" farmer late 1800s. Working dairy, nonprofit educational mission. Great for young and old.
