Great hike starts out hard but isn’t to difficult
A lot of great trails....but if you want peace and quiet and parking....Go during off season. It's PACKED during summer and fall...
Absolutely beautiful park. Climbing Mansfield was amazing and the view was breathtaking. One of the best hiking spots in Vermont.
BEAUTIFUL.
I love this place!!! I go often to hike, take pictures of the breath taking scenery and collect mountain water (the waterfalls have clean fresh water that tastes better than any water). There are fun caves everywhere and tons of trails (there are tons ofveasy ones with minimal hiking involved or more challenging ones), its fun for everyone of all ages (and obviously free). Like I said, I love this place! Great for bonding with people too, I can even get along with my younger sibling lol. You can really be one with nature here
Well marked & groomed trails. Good hiking!
Great day hike.
Seeing why it is called Mount Mansfield was awesome. Great trails with a wide range of difficulty. And as an aside: there are cell towers on one of the peaks which makes for great Snapchats etc.
This is one of the best places to hike in all of Vermont. You can climb up from Smuggler's notch and make it all the way to the state highpoint on top of Mt. Mansfield. On a clear day the views are wonderful. After reaching the top you can simply walk down one of the ski trails if you like.
Beautiful scenery with lots of great hiking.
A beautiful hike, very busy trail. If you don't like people this isn't the spot to hike
The Best rock formations and forest in Vermont. A must for trail travelers and climbers. Dont miss Fall foliage in the area. Its absolutely beautiful. The Notch road is open in the summer and fall is breath taking. Be careful of the hairpin turns as leaf gazers sometime dont observe the road signs. Its worth the traverse.
The trails are very well marked. Where sturdy shoes for climbing over rocks which may be wet. Make sure you have water. Hellbrook in late May.
Amazing and totally worth hiking up the mountains. Mansfield is definitely on the harder side of levels but dont be scared and take your time if need be cause the views up there at the top are just breathtaking. Love it.
Great place to explore the outdoors and enjoy being in the Mountains
Beautiful well marked trails with historic sites along the way.
Just walked part of the road up to the mass. Road is still closed, still not ready for traffic. Lots of branches down on the road. I can imagine it can be quite beautiful during summer or winter.
Can't beat the view from the top.
Gorgeous and accessible mountain. The gondola was breathtaking, but the real treasure is to drive to toll road to the summit, then walk to the exposed mountain top!
From little river state park, we enjoyed the historic trail.
Great hikes
I loved my hike through and up Mount Mansfield. The paths are well laid out and maintained its a fairly gentle hike (sunset ridge) with only a few steep sections. Take your time and expect to spend around 5hours going up and down on this hike - much more rewarding than taking the gondola up!
Loved it!
Great hike, cold swim.
Roads were clear, the forest was well cared for. Amazing experience
One of the nicest areas in Vermont. It appeals to adventurers due to its endless hiking and biking. It also appeals to more 'civilized' people because the town of Stowe is just down the road.
Great place for a long, interesting and fun trek. Can be exhausting at times. Ample parking available. Average climb time 3 hrs.
Awesome place. Lots of trails if you poke around.
Such a beautiful place here. So peaceful. So much fun.
Beautiful hike! Breathtaking nature that will keep wowing you.... Just remember big spray and expect to have a great hike here!
Beautiful views!
Amazing. If for some reason you think your problems are so big that you can't handle it anymore.......come here and take a breath and you will find that no matter how big you think your problems are, there is always something bigger to make your problems feel like a grain of salt.
View is amazing. The loop trail is quite challenging. Get information about Maple Ridge Trail before you start... Halfway House Trail might be an alternative going up.
Awesome hike up Sunset ridge trail to the Chin. Highly recommend the spur to see cantilever rock
Great hiking, not as busy as NH.

Great place for hiking and climbing.
Amazing place, beautiful northern Vermont. Some of the best skiing on the east coast.
Love this place! Beautiful view!
Beautiful!! I took one of the last Gandola's to the peak. It was foggy and rainy but what you could see was amazing!! The drives are unforgettable!
Soak your self in a magical fairytale forest with wildflowers fantastic views.
The mycology out here was superb. The breadth and depth of fruiting body diversity was astounding and humbling.
The hike to Sterling Pond is pretty tough, but short. The pond is beautiful and worth it.
If you like the outdoors, you will love it.
Had a great hike thru the woods, making my own way over the snow.
Excellent place to visit nice scenic view and you can hike or take a gondola ride to reach top of the mountain and its beautiful in fall and snow season
Living in Vermont is BEAUTIFUL.. A little bit of she even on earth.
Great hike with beautiful views
I often come here for hikes all year round. Lots of trails, some chill, some really challenging (especially in the winter), and wonderful views!
Green Mountains are a great place to go hiking if you willing to make the long trip!
Wonderful trails. Beautiful landscape. If you're not familiar with Vermont, the trails are typically very steep, very muddy, and full of sucks and roots. That said, if you're up for a challenge, it's definitely worthwhile.
Bolton Valley still alive with amazing fall colors! There's a new color at the top. Amazing views in all directions!
This is an amazing hike. The trail is clean, almost appearing untouched by humans. The Sunset Ridge Trail could be difficult for some, but it is absolutely worth the view at the top (highest point in Vermont!). I would strongly advise hiking boots, as the climb down requires grippy shoes.
Great skiing
I hike this mountain often, but it's always a treat to do in the fall. Dog friendly (leash please) and there are trails for many levels and skills. :)
Awesome views fun trail
Its a really beautifull place to be!
Exposed ridges, beautiful views, Cliff trail is absolutely amazing!
Beautiful scenery once you're at the top. Great chance to hike a mountain and several distances are available for your hiking preference. Cool with lush mountain vegetation. The mountain smells are awesome too!
Great trails and scenery. The trails are very rough and challenging. There's also a boardwalk trail through wetlands near the Barnes Camp visitor center
Mount Madonna at Smugglers Notch is breathtaking. The ride up gives you great perspective of the mountain. The top is so picturesque
Beautiful scenery and great hikes.
It was a pretty strenuous hike, but absolutely worth it!
Easy hiking with beautiful views of the green mountain range. It may not be the tallest summit but still a gorgeous ridge line .
Absolutely beautiful. And we didn't even do any lift tours or anything. 5/5
Woderful experience
If you are a nature lover like myself this is something you would enjoy with family and friends
I hiked up for about 20 min after the Gondola at Stowe. SO much untouched powder!!! Definitely worth the effort and probably the best run I've had on the east coast even with the foggy conditions. DO IT if you get the chance!!
The toll road up during foliage is spectacular well worth the toll.
Awesome
We did the hike up to Sterling Pond at the last minute. I had inappropriate footwear and my wife was 6+ months pregnant. It was a strenuous hike but you're rewarded with a lovely view and the picturesque pond. Would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic. Go there. Enjoy
If you are nature enthusiast, this is the place! The trails to the peak of mount mansfield (The Chin) are mostly for hikers with some experiences, so not as many tourists as you would see on other more popular trails. My husband and I took the trail Sunset Ridge trial uphill, which is okay, but accidentally took the wrong turn and came down from the Laura Cowles trial, which was a challenging mistake. It was a lot more rockier and steeper, and some parts were very slippery. If you don't have strong quads, pick another trial. But we glad we did it. The view at the chin is just breathtaking, worth every drop of the sweat. Highly recommend!
Great time!
Nice easy hike. Beautiful view as payoff for the effort
Every hike has been rewarding!
Definitely worth it to take the gondola to the top. The fall foliage views are breathtaking.
As a native Vermonter I can not feel more luck to have Mount Mansfield in my backyard. Clean air, chirping birds, and great trails to take the dog for a walk or hike. Amazing views...
Great hike up Sterling!
Great view
In the interest of full disclosure my experience with the Mount Mansfield State Forest involved driving up the toll road from the base of the mountain. A tad harsh on the old break pads, but highly recommended. Brought the hound and hiked along the ridge of the mountain. Unparalleled vistas abound.
Great views, nice hike
Wonderful place!
Depending which hike you choose to do but if you do the long trail tje last part is technical but really fun !
Excellent views and hikes at the top of the auto toll road. However, be warned that the toll road can get quite backed up - it was a 1.5 hr wait for us to go up it. Definitely worth it, but I would recommend heading up earlier and beat the crowds
A difficult, yet beautiful hike. Bring water & hiking equipment
The views we're gorgeous! We hiked the long trail south to the chin and back down. That route was definitely rough on the body. There are shorter trails and a gondola to take you to the top as well.
Amazing! Take your time and enjoy the view. Bring water, you're going to get a great workout.
Fall colours at its best!
Amazing and beautiful. With a visit if you can.
Took the long trail up to the peak of Mt. Mansfield. Challenging hike but worth the view!
Worth the climb. Highest point in the state.
My favorite state forest in VT! Incredible hiking, camping, snowboarding, waterfalls, etc. You can't go wrong on VT's tallest mountain.
Beautiful views from up top.
Such a beautiful place - I drove 5 hours each way in one day to get here! Plenty of parking, reasonable parking fee for a state park, well marked trails and glorious views.
Great way to spend a day. This hike provides plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Views were awesome. Unfortunately picked a crowded day to go and the staff in control of directing traffic were subpar.
A challenging climb from the north side!
Great hike with incredible views of the mountain ranges and valleys below. The long trail trailhead has been moved to the information center across from the Stowe sky resort, adding .4 miles on to the hike each way. The hike is fairly strenuous at times and the last half mile until summiting the chin is a lot of rock scrambles. There are several streams to refill water (if you bring a filter of course) on the long trail if you want to hike light. Highly recommend hitting this peak up if you're looking for a good workout and beautiful vistas.
Beautiful area for hikes. Quintessential Vermont.
Wonder place on earth
Skiing at Stowe Mountain resort is a great experience. But tickets online in advance to save a little money. You can skate on the out door rink in the afternoons.
Great views and not crowded
Beautiful state park - probably the nicest area in Vermont nature-wise. Worth the visit!
Great Views.
We hiked up Halfway house, then over to the Chin and down Sunset Ridge. Rewarding hike with great views plenty of challenge.
Beautiful park and a wonderful day hike up the sunset ridge trail. Definitely challenging at points climbing solid rock face, but an excellent range in topography!
A special park with the biggest soul in the state. Wildlife, views, and all difficulty levels in all four seasons make this a place to grow up near.
World class resort and spa.
Great mountain to hike over the summer. Full day workout for a loop of around 9 miles. We started at Underhill state park parking lot and took sunset ridge trail to the chin of Mt Mansfield. Sunset ridge trail is the most scenic of all the trails. We then continued long trail along the top of Mt Mansfield and took Halfway house trail while climbing down. Halfway house trail is very challenging at times, so I would be careful during the wet season and winter.
Not to be missed!
If your in the Stowe area this is a must see on a clear day, take the ride to the top in your car along the dirt road, about a 20-25 min ride to summit. Then take another 30-45 min hike to see the beautiful summit. It's usually a bit more crowded during the summer, get there early for parking!
Great place to visit, see what Mother Nature has to offer and still around the lowlands or, for the more adventurous, go for an existing hike. Amazing amounts of wildlife - you can expect to see (or at least hear) several raptor species from Kestrel to Hawks, owls. Tree frogs songs fill the sure from above while crickets and peepers (frogs) add their from below. Deer, Moose and other wildlife may wander by as well. I've seen a porcupine about every other time I've been here and today saw a river otter being a nuisance while playing with a duck who wanted none of the otter's games. Come up here and get out!
Great views and totally worth the moderate walk. Made it close to the summit, saw clouds rolling in, so we enjoyed the breathtaking view and headed back. Enjoyed the ride up and down, too.
Very friendly and helpful staff, I wish there were a larger variety of trails especially for the cost.
Tallest mountain in Vermont provides great views. Drive up the Toll Road to see 360 degree views from NY to NH.
Amazing view
Things to know The gondola opens in June so if you want to hike to the peak before June you must start at the bottom and it is a rigged trail up ... Beginners it will take you about 5-6 hours to go to the top and down We had fun but the day we went it was raining and freezing at points so we had to reunite back after 2.5 hours. That being said it was stunning I will go back
We had a nice walk on some low use trails.
Beautiful area. And everything is very well maintained. Tons of trails to take off on and depending on your level of adventure-seeking, you can stick with the groomed trails or beat your own path. If you do go off, go with a group and let people know where your going to be. Cell signal can drop to nothing in some spots.
Did a 23 day, 273 mile thru-hike on the Long Trail in VT from MA to Canada. Such beauty and friendly people! Life changing experience!
Tough hiking spot but the view on the summit is breathtaking! Beware! I went on the hellbrook trail to go up and you do a lot of climbing (with your hands!) along with uphill walking. I do not recommend using this trail for going up (or down!) If you are unexperienced.
Great place. Nice scenery.
Great views. Easy access. Summit difficult from Stowe Gondala
Beautiful alpine pond at the top of a short steep, rocky trail. You won't be lonely on a fine summer day, but we had a peaceful quiet visit on a cloudy weekday.
Very pretty scenery and a nice hike. We actually did not hike all the way up the mountain though. We took the toll road up most of the mountain and then hiked the rest to the top of the mountain which is where the spectacular views are. The hike from the top of the toll road to the top of the Mount Mansfield was easy to moderate.
Great hiking area with a bunch of trailheads to get to the summit. Worth the huffing and puffing. Took the gondola down after the hike.
Very beautiful area with very scenic views
Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, x-country skiing at the best Vermont has to offer.
Beautiful hikes all over
Loved this Park
It was awesome beautiful sceneny. Great hike
Did sunset ridge trail. Nice hike. Short but fairly vertical. Great views
Took the Long trail to summit, Cliff trail down to gondola. Best part...gondola ride down is FREE. Excellent hike involving a little scrambling near top.
Amazing hiking!
simply breath taking please visit it as you deserve it at least once in a life time
Beautiful blue bird day only a few left
Hike up Mount Mansfield on the hell Brooks Trail via the Vermont Long Trail South. You will definitely see Wild beaver and have a wild time climbing to The Summit.
So pretty.
Big, beautiful, and cold!!
Being the highest mountain in Vermont Mt Mansfield really let's you feel the influence of altitude. Also in the winter the hike is an icy challenge. Very exciting.
Great spot close to Stowe.
What an amazing hike. Highly recommend taking the laural trail first even though it's the most strenuous it's all worth it. Once you get to the top it's some of the best views in New England. The loop back down sunset ridge is breath taking and much easier
Beautiful on top of mountain nice hiking paths and views
Beautiful viewS
Nice hike up and the views were spectacular. It's the highest point in Vermont. Map your hike as there are some difficult parts if it's your first time hiking.
Amazing views
Beatiful, it has great views during fall, a must place to go.
Many trees and hikeing trails
Terrible!!! Cold and wet!! Too much snow! Almost got shot by a hunter from Jeffersonville! And the notch road was closed!!!!!! Don't they have plow trucks in VT????? Smh
Along the road up to Smugglers Notch, there's a few turn off for hiking. This was the bigger one and what a beautiful little view!
Beautiful place and foliage !
Great place for outdoor activities
Always a great hike no matter what direction you take!
So much nature. Beautiful. Can't wait to have kids so I can bring them back here
We took the toll road up the mountain and then followed the 1.4 Mile hike along long trail North to visit the highest peak in Vermont. This trail leads to the "chin" of Mount Mansfield and is somewhat challenging. It took us about 1.5 hours each way with our 8 year old daughter. Be sure to bring an overcoat as it gets chilly at the top.
Trail head leaving right from the campground makes this spot ideal for hikers. We scored a group site during the week and had that whole area to ourselves. Would definitely recommend this spot to friends. Portable water available.
