REVIEWS OF Mad River Glen Cooperative IN Vermont

Awesome old school mountain, best mountain on the east

Steve Koenemann

Not a skier, but this is an absolutely gorgeous place for the SIPtemberfest in late September

Adam Lucas

I came from Ohio for a powder day after one of the major storms this past season. I drove 13 hours through the night and Mad River Glen was my first stop in Vermont. I hopped out of the car with no sleep to head up the lift. And it was worth it. The skiing is great and it is all that is hyped up to be. The locals were incredibly friendly, the snow was great, and the terrain was even better. What more could you ask for?

Aaron G

Fun ski day. Great mountain.

Forrest Roraback

Amazing trails and friendly people. Must ski if you are east!

Richard Harrison

Visit here if you can, it's great. Superb skiing for all ages and ability levels, great terrain with natural snow. The burger in the bar is the best for miles around. Great choice of beers.

Geoff McBriarty

A lovely step back in time. No crowds or lift lines, friendly locals and lots of terrain. Will go again if I have the chance.

Zoran Tomin

This morning started off slow and little icy and then 3 inches of snow covered up all the ice patches and the rest of the day was awesome

Sarah Waple

MRG is the most magical ski mountain. This is not a resort, but a skier owned mountain. You can’t beat the friendly staff, delicious food and fantastic terrain. Where else can you ride a single chair?

Ktbar's Animals

Awesome place to ski so much fun and the people are great. Everyone knows everyone, Wich I think is really cool!

Carol Yingling

Friendly people, great skiing with a variety of terrain. The trails aren't crowded. It's beautiful as well as challenging!

GO PRO

What a miserable crowd at this place. Had to cancel my ski trip with my family since I am a snowboarder and they all ski. I wish this place would get with the times but the attitude here is so poor. Save your money and go to any of the other beautiful mountains in the area.

Pete Grantham

5 out of 5 stars all day everyday. But don't tell anybody that got to keep this place under wraps

Thomas Egan

Great mountain! The new GM is a good guy!

Daniel DelBalzo

Great skiing and I'm not lying!

Ted Grzesik

Unique ski area. Bucks the corporate ski area world. Excellent glades!

Blaine Dunn

Once of the most unique experiences you can have.

martin beam

Great people, great skiing, a real ski mountain and over 2000 vertical ft of consistent fall line skiing from 1 lift and 1600 vertical ft from second main lift

Marjorie Cogan

Mad River Glen is by far my favorite mountain ever to ski at. I've been skiing here since I was 3 years old, and it never gets boring. I've never a less than great experience with the staff. The terrain is challenging and it can be disappointing when there isn't much natural snow, but that is certainly not the fault of anyone but Mother Nature. And when there is snow, it's excellent!

Annie Mailloux

New favorite east coast mountain! My legs are burning and I'm sad to leave!!! If i skied here every weekend I would be so much better. So fun and a nice change from the big resorts. The single chair was kind of a ride in and of itself... Thought a slow single chair lift might be a PITA but it was really fun!!

Brian Davies

Salt of the earth. A step back in time. Fun trails & no snowboards!

Nick Bedrin

Best powder stashes on the east!!

Paula Schuck

UNREAL!!! This is a place we will never forget. There’s no denying the surroundings at Mad River Glen are unique and gorgeous. Everything is skiable. Everything is authentic. From the heavens, not the hoses. That’s the slogan, as in the snow here is real snow. Home to the only single chair lift around. Expect deep snow banks and the kind of snow that pulls you off course if you aren’t in control......Take the GO PRO - pause if you can and grab some shots of chipmunk bowl and the waterfall.......So many ski hills so little time. We only learned to ski in 2014 as a family and we are on a mission to ski as many amazing mountains as possible. This skiers only cooperative is the most beautiful spot we have ever skied. Friendly people that are really truly supportive and embrace every type of skier. There is also some incredible terrain. The food in the lodge is spectacular. LOVED it here and hope to return if we head to Vermont again this ski season.

patrick /Pat

Great Mountain, have good vertical and really good glades. Mad river glen ski it if you can

Meaghan Jeffrey

Let me start by saying that I do not ski...... I am the woman behind the skiing man that has cocoa ready for him when he comes in for breaks and watches him do his thing. I LOVE that they have a grill and the food in the lodge is served on an actual dish. The food was so good and not very expensive. The people working there were talking to the other people and the kids from the ski school like they were old friends. I LOVE that the lodge was comfortable to hang out in and chat with anyone and everyone (because everyone is so chill and nice) while man was out having a killer good time (he loves the single chair and the troth-style urinal the most). This place is wonderful for the skier and the patiently waiting/worrying partner who is just hanging out. Everyone was so nice and even though he hadn't been there in 10 years, he was so appreciative of how much the mountain remained a steady and unyielding mountain for classic skiing.

Steven Behnke

I have skied MRG for 2 years now, it is a true national treasure.

Kevin McDonough

Very limited snow making so they need real snow, but when they have it, it's absolutely amazing. Not the largest area, but it's filled with killer glades. Think back-country with a lift. Not for beginners. If blues seem a little scare to you, work your way up at a resort.

Steven Tannickal

Awesome. Def recommend coming here every season. Lot's of hiking/Sking trails. Main lodge area has a restaurant/bar with great live performances. Excellent staff. There's also free WiFi at the restaurant/bar.

Carol Pierce

Great music on Thursday evenings. Dinner was super.

Ryan McGraw

Great ski resort. The lodge is nothing special but you get the small town feel with friendly people and great conditions

Erik U

Amazing. That's all I can say. Just go here. You will not regret it.

Joe Faranetta

Best family ski area in the northeast

Thomas Potter

We just looked around

Andrew Roussinos

Early in the season so the conditions aren't the best but still some of the tougher and more beautiful terrain out there. No crowds and that old school feel.

Bob Cook

Awesome!

Michael Russo

One of the most down to earth heart warming ski areas on the east coast

Thomas Howard

One of a kind

James Wenta

MRG .. always a great time. Feels like a welcoming private mountain resort. Ski it if you can.

Wesley Bell

Best place to ski

John Ray

A friendly welcoming mountain that's great fun to ski for all abilities. Full of old-school, non-corporate charm.

Healing Honeybee

It's like going home! The best people, great food, beautiful mountain atmosphere - it's a little slice of heaven.

Tyler McCord

A first visit to MRG. Amazing vibe! A good balance of approachable runs for the novices in your group and runs that will satisfy even the most advanced Eastern skier. Great local entertainment throughout the week as well. (Kelly Ravin and Lowell Thompson - The Welterweights occasionally perform there). Good pub grub and an excellent selection of local craft beer. Yes, SOS is on tap! MRG is a hard place to pin a description on but can see why those who have visited have fallen in love with the place. We'll be back in 2019. Ski it if you can!

Mark Smith

Best skiing within a couple of thousand miles.

Mark Watson

No snowboarding is like saying no colored. It's disgusting!!! Mad river sucks

Anthony Tournaud

Alright here's the deal bub. This place needs to allow snowboarders. Either that or I need to learn how to ski. Maybe one day I'll hike it and board down just to say I snowboarder at MRG. you know what? That's definitely what I'll do. Either way. I was the best boarder on the mountain when I was there. Good place tho. Great bar.

Poisoned Pens

Old school in every sense of the word. Exceptionally friendly staff and a cool vibe. Restricted in snowmaking so needs to have a good natural base for optimum skiing.

Kyle Fink

Why you guys gotta descriminate on the snowboarders dawg that just ain’t cool chief

Nik Orlando

Not just another large overcrowded industrial mountain. Truly a unique experience with excellent expert terrain. Not allowing snowboarders is a major plus.

Scott Daniel Cook

Ski it if you can! The skiers' mountain. A place where people are polite, and can alternate the lift lines without an attendant. The terrain is varied and the sking depends on mother nature, they dont make snow. If theres enough snow, the woods trails are

Charlotte Reider-Smith

Huge ski area. Homey feel. Everyone is smiling, happy, it's a community mountain. Great tree skiing, the only single chair in the country (pretty sure). 10/10 would recommend.

Rafael Mellace

Best mountain Ever!!

Aj Miller

im a HUGE snow boarder i constantly look for new mountains and if i was a skier 5 out of 5 but im a snowboarder and they dont do enough to help snowboarders but food resort and trails very nice

Richard Harbus

Time. When you enter this location it's a throwback to the 50s and 60s. The slogan is ski it if you can and they're not kidding great bar inside with great microbrews and good lunch selections and you can bring your own food as well the skiing is phenomenal

Jay Kitchens

Awesome mountain!

Dan O'Brien

Great ski area.

Mark Tharion

Let boarders in, we don't have exclusive resorts and neither should skiers, this just kills families with skiers and snowboarders that would like to go together

Juan Almada

Greatest ski resort in the universe!

Whitney Hayes

No matter how crowded the bottom of the mountain is, at the top you have the mountain to yourself. Single chair is unique

Steve Burri

When the snow is great, there is no place better!

Anthony Nevico

Ski it if you can

Michael ONeil

The terrain is awesome. Snow is natural

Zeborah Swierczynski

Most awesome experience

Andrew Overton

Love this place and everything about it. Usually better than sugarbush for snow conditions and more difficult terrain even though it is a natural snow based operation

David Hoyt

Awesome

Tim Cogan

The best place to ski in my book. Fell in love with MRG years ago and I've had trouble bringing myself to ski anywhere else since. Even if the terrain weren't so damn good the general vibe is warm and welcoming. You can always learn to ski better and this is the place to do it! The people are friendly, the environment is quiet, the snow is always real, and even the kids are great skiers. Added bonus, the cafeteria has pretty great food and the pub has a stellar beer selection for the end of the day. Unlike anywhere else and I'll never look back.

Rick Kinsman

A great locally owned mountain not for the faint of heart or cold toes.

Gregory Padula

No Snowboarders

Joseph Seif

Honestly one of my favorite ski places in Vermont so far

Alec Betancourt

The primest

Tzad cannot be left blank

Thee Holy Grail of Eastern Skiing.

Nick Arduini

I’ve skied over 20 ski areas across New England, and mad river always tops the list for me. They offer extensive glade skiing, with trails ranging from expert to easy of course. Mad river also has a single chairlift which offers a unique aspect to the ski area, aside from being exclusive to skiing. Overall well worth it to visit for the day, plus it’s a member owned cooperative mountain!

Gerard J. Beaulieu

You can. You should. Pray for an early and snowy 18/19 season.

Paul Leo

Awesome skiing. Lines not to bad. Powder is great. Definitely ski resort to visit and have a family outing.

George Gonnella

Amazing skiing and staff is even better...

Redneck Reviews

Best place on the planet!!

Michael Yingling

My favorite ski area. It's the Alta of the east coast!

Eric Dayton

This place is old school awesome!

Chase

I have been skiing here for 9 years and it is the best ski mountain on the east coast. A great place to hang with the locals and it is very community centric unlike neighboring resorts *cough cough* sugarbush. The food is great, but the lodge is not large so if you are not a serious skier and plan to sip hot chocolate all day then maybe this isn't your mountain.

Sarah Haley

We visit yearly for a race with the endurance society. The staff is great, the food is amazing. Awesome place.

Jonathan Moore

This is hands down the place for incredibly authentic skiing. its difficult, its charming and it's going to be your new favorite place!

John Conery

Love the glades there it is a great atmosphere the trails are challenging MAD RIVER GLEN SKI IT IF YOU CAN !!!!!!

Miles K

Dissapointing. Terrible resort. Doesn't allow snowboarding. I was under the impression that this was 2015, not the 80's. One of the last mountains creating the conflict and rivalry between riders and skiers, and the snobby shareholders drive around with "ski it if you can" stickers. The best part about a snowboarder, is that they share the lift with you. Maybe one will visit when diverse sporting friends and family can ride together.

Julia Rapczynski

I spent my day on Telemark skis for the first time. Took lessons from an awesome instructor and learned a lot.

Greg Ranallo

When the snow is good this is the place to be! Awesome terrain, super people, good food and beer, and a great homey old fashioned vibe.

Alexander Olbrys

Sweet skiing Especially on a powder day!

Tristan Weaver

A great place to ski. The terrain was amazing

Jimmy Brokaw

Mad River Glen is a skier's ski resort. The lodge is bare, the pub is small, and they don't waste money on providing amenities. But if you're here to ski, then you can do that. The single chair limits how many people can go up, so it's never crowded anywhere on the slopes. Skiers will usually request permission to pass you on narrower trails, but that doesn't happen often. The terrain is challenging - don't come here planning to ski easy blues. This is where you find cliffs, trees, moguls, and true steeps. The parking lot is small and fills early, so don't be late. Do not park blocking the road, you will be towed. Also, military and their families ski free, all year. Just show your ID at the counter.

Ben Falk

A gem, 10 years behind on the food scene though. Would be so great to see more local food options - like how about a local burger? Given this location in an epicenter of good local food it's surprising the Coop is so far behind on some healthier, fresher, more local food options.

Gabe

OK food. Very nice area for the kids, for a single page menu, they should have very tasteful food and accurate pricing. Our bill differed $5 from menu prices. Not a huge deal. Need to season the burgers and the prime rib sandwich. They were very bland. I've never had to use any sort of sauce on a prime rib sandwich. Here I did. $16 for a prime rib sandwich, it shouldnt need anything. Great atmosphere but still working out the kinks.

Alexander Fox

A family friendly mountain stuck in time holding on to it's long and proud history with a charm that has been lost from most other mountains. It may not be the largest in the area, but I have been coming here since 1990 and there are always new runs to discover. There is a great range of beginner to advanced trails to keep skiers of all skill levels busy for a full day. With only a single and double chair there is never an over population of skiers on the trails at one time. It is also a great place to visit in the off season with events, hiking, and other fun activities.

John Marchiony

Great place for historically accurate 1970s skiing. Fun snowshoe tour with Sean the naturalist who's alter ego is beermeister.

karen winchell

Great skiing. No snow boarding. Natural snow. Uncrowded trails. Woods for all levels. Friendly folks. Variety of trails and terrain. What's not to love.

Wendy Sweller

Single chair lifts only one left in the country

josh jordan

Love the feel of this mountain. The single is a dope way to get up to the top

Bo A.

Mad River Glen is a special place. You can ski it!

Jennifer J

Ski it if you can! And yes, you can :)

Clinton Sears

Classic skiing, above average difficulty

Sam

This place doesn't allow snowboarding.

Sean Patterson

Classic east coast skiing. Love the single chair.

William Nash

Love this place. Don't miss the Friday fish fry, but even if you do, the food is a cut above the usual ski lodge fare. Skiing is good though more dependent on the weather than most. People, both staff and regular patrons are friendly and laid back.

david delong

This place is an old school skiing mecca! Heaven does exist at a place in VT called MRG!

Parker Hoblin

Finest the east has to offer when nature gives you natural.

Jason Leonard

I Love this place so fun.

James Enter

The hill is short but the runs are challenging. These are not the big wide open groomers of other hills so getting down takes time. The single chair makes the top of the mountain much less crowded. I highly recommend mid week visits. The feeling of solitude while skiing with the challenging terrain is like achieving a Zen like harmony with mountain around you.

michael cianci

most pretentious mountain on the east coast, great mountain full of horrible people and insanely slow lift service. poach it they don't deserve your money, nor do they need it.

Jim DiRenzo

Ski it if you can

Mary Shinabarger

Best place & people ever!

Paul gromadzki

The greatest place on earth

Gus Molina

Nice snow conditions for sking, it you are a skier you need to visit this place

Tom Citriniti

Great place to get outdoors and of course ski. We had a great guide show us the mountain on snowshoes.

Jennifer Klick

Friendly people and fabulous skiing. I always look forward to coming here.

Robert LaPierre

Always a pleasure!!great day!

Tadeusz Wszolek

Nice place

Melissa Griffin

I almost don’t want to give a review of this place in case more people find out about it, but I feel like the wonderful staff and all the people that we met there deserve a huge round of applause! We are a family of four with a seven-year-old and a four-year-old, neither are skiers. We are both intermediates, and with all the reviews that I had read I was feeling a little bit worried that this mountain was just going to be too tough for us! The kids had the best time ever, and learned to ski in three days and were doing green runs by the end of it. Albeit slowly, but they were doing it! My kids are not adventurous, as a matter fact they are very very cautious so it pleased me so much to know that they were having so much fun. They actually they didn’t want to leave, so we ended up staying an extra day! Every staff member gave us the extra attention that we needed to make sure that we were happy and really went above and beyond to make sure that our our ski trip was the best it could be! We absolutely love mad River Glen and cannot wait to go back! Big shout to both Bobs, Sara, Sarah, Shae and her Dad and Leigh...You were all so lovely, thank you! See you next year guys! Tell everyone! No wait....actually don’t tell anyone! ;)

Kenny G

Amazing skiing for the more advanced riders.

Mark Aldrich

awesome! bring your courage but not your snowboard. this place treats military members and their families better than any other resort in the northeast. thank you

Clark Hayes

Good small mountain / old time feel. Definitely the best skiing of what the east coast has to offer. Almost every trail is natural snow only so take a look at snow conditions before you go.

Paul Davis

Paradise is AWESOME! A true skiers mountain!

Pauls Android

Authentic skiing at its best!

Ben Carpenter

Great place for skiing! (No snowboarding allowed)

Aaron Bell

Amazing natural snow in New England with an atmosphere from the golden age of skiing. Great terrain and a friendly crowd makes for a unique experience.

Cathy K

We visited here in March 2017. It was crowded when we went on a Saturday after receiving 2 ft of snow, but it was worth it. The parking attendants are fabulous. They will will find spots where you think none exist. The lift lines were a little long, but it was worth the wait. Trails for all ability levels. Skiers dressed in costumes made it entertaining. It's an old school mountain with lots of charm.

Miles Lamberson

Great atmosphere and fantastic terrain.

Kate Willard

In my top 3 favorite mountains. The culture and the terrain are unbeatable in the East.

Robert Rodgers

Best darn ski area in the east! Ski it if you can!

imthemistermaster

its a great mountain with good food a classic lift great trails, nice people everywhere and the best part, no snowboards! I find it funny all the mad snowboarders writing reviews of this and saying its like being racist. look at it from the skiers POV, you ruin the snow by pushing it all off the trails and run over the moguls, making flat icy trails. the reason your not allowed is cause you ruin the experience for everyone else. i highly recommend this ski resort for any experienced skiers who want some challenges and dont mind a few scratches in there skis at the end of they day if you like glades

Drew Delong

I guess this place still thinks we're in the dark ages. First it doesn't allow snowboarding for no reason. Next thing you know this place will be putting witches on trial.

Jack Douglas

Love the intimate layout of the trails which aren't over run with people due to the small lift capacity. This makes for excellent skiing and keeps the big crowds away. For serious skiing only as no snowboarding is allowed and there are no other activities.

Gavin Williams

First experience was amazing. Perfect time to go mid week a few days after a snow storm that dropped 15 inches.. Couldnt ask for a better deal after adding a mad river pass for only $90 onto my sugarbush pass...

girish raval

Good for winter games

Dave K

Awesome. Vintage skiing. With great people from lifts to cafeteria to fellow skiers. Great place!

Linnea Henry

MRG is the best!

arty gordo

The only place with a single chair

Thomas Dugan

MRG is the BEST place in the world to ski and I will always love this place. It is a one of a kind place. When you are on the slopes there is no one and you cant hear anything but your own skis!

Dan PN

They discriminate against me and all snowboarders

Paul Johnson

When the conditions are good, there isn't any place that's better. No snow making for the most part. Natural snow is so much better than man made but this is New England so you need to experience MRG after a storm to really appreciate it.

Dn_ Dgn

Be sure to try the fried green bean appetizer!!!!

Alexander Devaux

Could use more slopes geared for total beginners, but the intermediate slopes were great

Paul Webb

Best skiing on natural snow. Variety of terrain for all. Great, low key atmosphere.

Ben Barth

This place is sick! Don't expect any amenities or luxury. This is a shut up and ski kinda place (how it should be). There's terrain for all abilities, but intermediate and advanced and experts will enjoy it most. The lower half of liftline is very fun. Their glades didn't appeal much to me, but in general this place is chill. I will definitely return. I will say though, $89 for a lift ticket ($59 half day) is quite steep for what you get here. Jay for example is $84 at the window and much cheaper online and offers more. Regardless, Mad River was awesome and I will definitely return.

John Tobin

The only one of its kind, skiing as it used to be.

Cliff Ageloff

Ski it if you can and learn to if you can't

martin szadkowski

One of the last old school ski resorts left in this country. I can't say enough...please do not change a thing... Coming to mad river is the closest thing to time travel that brings me to a enchanted place....Not to mention the skiing is absolutely challenging....

Dave Tortoishell

We came over from the UK to ski North America, decided to get away from the big resorts, stay in Vermont and ski a different resort every day. MRG was by far the best, small and not commercialised, plenty of natural testing gladed runs, friendly and helpful without being in-your-face about it. We were unlucky to come during a lean patch and just before a good dump of fresh pow but the laidback vibe and riding the iconic single chair was worth it. We’ve skied all over Europe, New Zealand and South America but of all the places, MRG is THE one we want to revisit. “Welcome to your happy place”

Steve Mariakis

Nice and cozy place. By far not the largest ski area in VT but very quaint. Iconic single chair lift (the only one in N.A.) takes you to the top of the mountain. Some very challenging runs. Little snow making and little grooming means "ski it if you can". Easy in and out drive to this mountain

Selcuk Mengüc

Extream friendly atmosphere and great club house.

Brooks Lord

The best there is, the finest kind. It’s old school and perfect with lots of tight trails, squirrel paths, quick decision abound! This place is truly special for core skiers, enjoy

Spencer Mattison

Best skiing on the east coast, period.
